it's interesting to see how people undervalue Russ' triple doubles. Like the fact that he makes it look easy shows you how hard it actually is. And I get that a lot of guys get triple doubles now like Giannis, Simmons, Jokic, and Luka, to name a few, but none of them are likely to average a triple double for an entire season, let alone do it 4 times like Russ has done now. Also if you look at Russ' first few seasons, from 08 to 14, he only had 7 triple doubles in his career. He's gotten 168 in 6 years, and is 7 away from passing Oscar, who got to 181 in more games than Russ will. Say what you want about Russ, but he's one of the most talented players in NBA history and he gives it 110% every night.
Westbrook is under appreciated by far, he's like you trying to get all your badges in 2k MyCareer. Better start recognizing you are witnessing history, but everyone takes it for granted...
I still find it mind boggling how people think he’s a selfish nba player and that he doesn’t care about winning😂 they think some stuff that maybe applied more in his first few years in the league still applies now
I am a person that really appreciates the triple double! I agree Westbrook plays hard but I also understand why people call him selfish! He drops his head when teammates don’t convert. His game management is still terrible and won’t adjust his game(which I respect) but he team constantly looses
Who is Rachel talking to??? Everybody knows its not EZ! 😆 Ffs dude is a very good player. Special is reserved for those who make noise in the playoffs, and that's a stat.
I can ONLY think of 4 to 5 Players that truly have the MAMBA Mentality in the NBA: 1. RUSSELL WESTBROOK 2. JAYSON TATUM 3. DEVIN BOOKER 4. CHRIS PAUL Honorable mentions: Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Lebron James, Julius Randle, Kawhi Leonard (When He's Engaged).
Russ doesn't play traditional winning basketball. He's like a scrambling quarterback. He does amazing things but can't run an efficient offense. I emphasize this because he's never improved on his flaws. He is a poor shooter that turns the ball over 5 times a game. That will not beat teams that know what they are doing in the playoffs.
So you're saying they can make their teammates hit shots? Because that's what an assist entails....ain't LeBron(and those 'analysts' who constantly defend him) always complaining about guys not making shots he passes them into even when those shots are difficult/in crunch time. Russ sets up a lot of easy shots for his teammates. Has Doncic been in the playoffs yet?(hasn't most his stats been entirely empty. While Russ has an 80% win percentage when he post high numbers....) Doesn't Harden fold in the playoffs, no matter the level of players around him(what's he without an automatic 10+ foul shots in the playoffs....) Russ always has the lesser construct teams; you think his mvp year and the 2 after they were well built?(especially when PG crumbled Melo was no longer top level and the rest where essentially defense and not capable of scoring). Jokic has been the best center in the league for years, yet why is he devoid of criticism for not winning it all(did he not have Murray save the team last playoffs for him....?oh yeah he did.) Whenever Russ needs others to step up they check out/fold/disappear. So he goes down swinging.
@@jonathanjohnson6727 Let me educate you a bit on this. If Harden wanted to score less and playmake so he could get more assists, he could easily do that, yes. Same for Doncic. If Lebron increased his time of possession to Harden/Westbrook levels as well as sacrifice defensive positioning in order to get rebounds, yes his assists and rebounds would elevate. Same for Jokic. You realize that Jokic has almost half the time of possession per game compared to Westbrook, yet gets that many assists? That high time of possession from Westbrook is also a big reason why his teams have always been bottom 5 in the league in team passes per game, as his ball dominant style of play doesn't allow as much ball movement as a team like the Nuggets. Also, when 76% of a player's rebounds are Uncontested Rebounds, am I supposed to be impressed by that? I'm impressed by Jokic's rebounding though, for whom only 57.8% of his rebounds are Uncontested. Realize, these players who have high time of possession like Westbrook, Harden, and Doncic, they will get a basket or an assist on nearly every possession, as they're the ones who have the ball in their hands running Isolation Drive/Kick or Pick and Rolls. It's just a matter of if they want to score more or make the pass to get the assist more, in addition to taking what the defense gives them. If they wanted to though, at any time they can lower their scoring and try to force more assists if they wanted to get more assists so they can reach that "10" mark. So again, if they wanted to, they could certainly average a triple double. Addressing his "80% win percentage" when getting triple doubles, there's no doubt he does well in the regular season, but those triple doubles lead to just a 50% winrate in the playoffs, so not much correlation there to winning in the playoffs. On the other hand, his win rate in the playoffs when shooting 45% FG or better is 72%, so clearly there's a lot of value in him being efficient in the playoffs, and a lot of detriment to the team when he's not efficient in the playoffs, and we know which direction he goes most of the time. His win rate in the playoffs when taking 15 or less shots is 63%, so there's something to be said there too. He's one of the highest volume lowest efficiency players in the history of the NBA in the playoffs, as in when it matters the most. How about in elimination games in the playoffs, games when it really counts? He was 4-13 last year, which was actually smart of him taking less shots because he was about to have another typical Westbrook elimination game going 8-26 and hurting his team even more. How about that 11-31 performance last year, making the low IQ decision of taking the vast majority of the shots despite Paul George being on fire shooting 70%? Or how about that 18-43 the year before? The other teams loved him taking so many shots shooting such low percentages, they wouldn't mind him scoring 100 points with him shooting at such poor percentages in games when it counts. Yeah, they love him "swinging" like that. Guess how many times he's been above league average in TS% or eFG% in the playoffs? Zero times. He's been below average efficiency every single year in the playoffs. What do you think happens when your own team is shooting at average or above average efficiency, while the other team has one guy with extremely high time of possession taking all the shots at below average efficiency? Simple math.
@@back2back379 what superstar/star plays all out defense besides Kawhi?.......none. Uncontested or out-hustled everyone to the ball? You ever watch. He outhustles to get the ball. No one just lets an opponent get a rebound....You're just framing it negatively. Coaches dictate schemes designed around the top players on their team. So of course they take up the majority of possessions....plus the way you described LeBron, Doncic and Harden. They purposely choose when to score more based on their teams need.. Hmm thats what Russ does......He always states(also shown in how he plays within the d*mn game) he goes by what his rhythm is and/or whats needed for the team that game/time frame in a game. When there's no costar, he handles the lead scoring. With costar and during times his shots not going, setup the bigs, shooters and attack the basket; one of his strengths(which he never gets foul calls for while others who barely get touched do) and so on sequences, etc. Simply put you can't force assists...the guy you pass to has to be in position to score and ya know make the d*mn shot. Addressing your last two paragraph. Do you not understand it takes the *team* to win? Who besides Russ/PG on those okc teams were even capable, sh*t even a mere threat on offense? NO. ONE. (Schroder would go from 1-10 one game to 5-17 the next and every big and sf type couldn't create on their own). Also if you look at those games Russ shot so much(the actual game, not just box score). You'd see PG was flailing at the end of those games and Russ knew no one else was hitting so he went for it. As the star player is supposed to do(don't act like you wouldn't screech if he decide to just pass/shy away from trying to score. As you would for other top players). Efficiency has to do with contested shots; heavily impacted by how much attention the superstar; Russ demands vs. How much the players around them demand(aka if they ain't a threat you close guard the focal point and see if the ancillary pieces beat you. Okc was never capable of that. Not even when KD was there. Evident by the fact he'd pack it in whenever Russ wasn't there). Do you want a player that just gives up like Harden when everything isn't pristine and heavily in your favor? Or b'tch out like LeBron and KD when the going gets tough? I sure the h*ll don't. That's boring to watch/experience and waters down the value of winning(doesn't matter if its regular or post season. Do you disrespect Peyton for not doing as well as Brady? Same for Karl Malone and Barkley not taking Jordan down? Or Jordan for not steam-rolling by Bird and the Pistons? The list can go on and on. Cause 90% of the greatest of greats never achieve as much as the few greats. Because if you look at championships. They were concentrated within 5-7 teams of any league.) I'd rather have your accomplishments earned. You've seen the playoffs and finals the last 5 or so years right? Only the Raptors run was worthwhile. As they earned it. None in 2017, 2018. None last year. Final 3 games of 2016 were entertaining but the final teams were a given. Also the last decade of the eastern conference playoffs was a foregone conclusion. Which is impressive health/longevity wise, not so much in competition/competitive nature.
@@jonathanjohnson6727 Wait, just staying with your man is going all out defense? You must have very low standards for this guy. When I say 76% are Uncontested rebounds, that's a literal stat. There's nothing being "framed," it is what it is. That means no defenders close enough to contest for the rebound. The majority out of those are Uncontested Defensive Rebounds at 3-6 feet, meaning it's not like he's hustling out of bounds for them. Some coaches can dictate and have the power to do so, other coaches don't have the power to and the player just does what he wants. That's why when Russ played for D'Antoni and he couldn't just run things the way he wanted to, he had only about 70% of his usual time of possession and wasn't averaging a triple double anymore, and he wasn't allowed to just sag off defensively to be in position for defensive rebounds. He can state whatever he wants to, but there are even videos of him hunting assists and sagging off defensively so he can be in better position for the rebounds. That's what the team needs? For him to sag off defensively to be in better position for the rebound? And players absolutely can hunt and try to force assists, that's what Rondo did when he was on the Kings, and what basketball analyst Ben Taylor coined "Rondo assists." As for the help he's had, he had enough help on paper that they were favored over the Blazers. He had enough help that they were favored over Utah. He's had enough help that almost every team he's been on has been top 5 in preseason odds to win the Championship practically every single year. Of course Schroder would sometimes have bad shooting games, but so does everyone, including Westbrook obviously. The difference is, the ball is in Westbrook's hands all the time, so it's more costly to the team when he's shooting low efficiency. "Efficiency has to do with contested shots; heavily impacted by how much attention the superstar; Russ demands vs. How much the players around them demand(aka if they ain't a threat you close guard the focal point and see if the ancillary pieces beat you. Okc was never capable of that. Not even when KD was there." KD wasn't enough? Having 2 MVP level players with good role players is not enough, when no other team in the league had that? Also, if that's all that efficiency has to do with, how do you explain what Steph Curry's done this season in terms of shooting efficiency? You realize he's at the same level of efficiency as he was during his MVP seasons, right? How do you explain that Kobe's True Shooting% went even higher after Shaq left? How do you explain Dirk's efficiency got even better after he lost Nash? How do you explain that Jordan was never inefficient even in his early years when he had trash teammates? Efficiency has to do with your skills as a scorer, Russ just doesn't have that kind of skill and ability. "Do you disrespect Peyton for not doing as well as Brady?" Not disrepsect, but obviously Brady gets more respect for his achievements and playoff performances. "Same for Karl Malone and Barkley not taking Jordan down?" No, because they still performed rather well in the Finals, Jordan just outperformed them. "Or Jordan for not steam-rolling by Bird and the Pistons?" No, because Jordan still performed extremely well against those teams. I don't see how Jordan averaging 43.7 PPG on 50.5% FG and performing so well that Larry Bird called him "god in disguise" compares in any way to "disrespecting" Westbrook never once having above average efficiency in a playoff season. I would certainly feel different if Westbrook had shot 16-31, or 22-43 in the games I mentioned. In fact, his teams likely would have won had he shot that way. This is not a matter of Westbrook winning Championships or not that I'm discussing. I'm not criticizing him for not winning a Championship, that's a strawman. What I'm discussing is his scoring efficiently in the playoffs, when clearly him even shooting just 45% FG increases his team's chances of winning greatly in the playoffs, whereas him getting a triple double in the playoffs does not correlate to his teams winning more than losing.
Thank goodness y'all didn't have Mr. SENITIVE A. Smith 😭🤧 covering this. He would have poured salt all over this story. Fun to watch, but you ain't gonna win. Ever. It's a team sport. And your team can't win with Russ. Facts little buddy. Not to mention the fact that he's one of the worst percentage shooters in the league who takes too many dam shots. Again Facts.
@@mikeyo2024 no, it isn't true. And again, you sound stupid. First off, you said you're not making the playoffs with Russ....when he's been in the last 10 playoffs. Secondly, Harden was still a 6th man by that time and got traded because he couldn't agree on a contract with OKC. When they played together in Houston, he started acting up AFTER Russ was traded🤷🏾♂️. Durant didn't leave because of Russ, he simply left because GSW was the better team. Westbrook is a legendary player, i am so glad i can witness this on a daily basis. 4th time the guy avg a triple double. He aint bullshitting around. Awesome player. And Washington should be glad they have him.
Westbrook I don’t think I’ve heard talk about how good he is. I’m happy to hear him say that he is that good
I've always thought Westbrook looks like E.T. That hoodie confirms it. Just needs to say Ellllliot and ride in a bicycle basket.
Haha fr
They even painted him green to look like a ninja turtle.

Rings or not still my favorite pg of all time
Since he's putting up these numbers Wizards started to turn around their season. So it does contribute to winning
I agree! I love Westbrook! I love his passion for the game!
Not a Westbrook fan. But the dudes an all time great for sure 👍 He and the Wizards are playing well right now and I give them their props 💯
Westbrook is a beast, he's playing like there's no tomorrow.
He's special no one can dispute that. I love to watch him play. He is a winner but he's not a champion and that is no one else's fault. Shaq throws it in Barkley's face cause he didn't win a ring. If you don't win than you are subject to that scrutiny. That reality won't change because everyone will always compare players.
Westbrook is a monster period respect from Inglewood California ... plus the wizards had injured players they had weeks off because of covid killed they moment to build so they literally should be 5 seed at least of them things didn’t happen
I’ve paid to watch Russell three times and this dude does not disappoint. Loyal OKC fan but when he goes I go because this dude is second to none

In my country, there is a saying which translates to: "My dear mouth, speak highly of me!"
The same goes to Mr. Westbrook.
He's the best by the numbers
After Westbrook's is gone we will miss the triple doubles... appreciate the man now!!!
it's interesting to see how people undervalue Russ' triple doubles.
That thunder squad had 3 of the craziest stat masters

Russ speaking truths
Jokic, Doncic, Lebron, and Harden could average a triple double if that's what they played for.
And players absolutely can hunt and try to force assists, that's what Rondo did when he was on the Kings, and what basketball analyst Ben Taylor coined "Rondo assists."
As for the help he's had, he had enough help on paper that they were favored over the Blazers.
Not even when KD was there."
KD wasn't enough?
"Do you disrespect Peyton for not doing as well as Brady?"
Not disrepsect, but obviously Brady gets more respect for his achievements and playoff performances.
"Same for Karl Malone and Barkley not taking Jordan down?"
No, because they still performed rather well in the Finals, Jordan just outperformed them.
"Or Jordan for not steam-rolling by Bird and the Pistons?"
No, because Jordan still performed extremely well against those teams.
The problem isn’t that he doesn’t grind, its the fact that he just stat pads but I don’t blame him might as well if your on a losing team
