I came here bc I hate roaches n am sorta afraid of them but feel like were kinda gettin to know this massive yet lil fella n I am not hating either so much anymore but yea is the variety u speak of like the NYC/Philly city type of roach basically the rusty firey redishbrown thin narrow ones that are like non stop moving at high speed bc thats what I know n they r the worrrst ew haha. Actually meant to search flying roach I thankfully never seen one in person.

@I hate cockroaches so much! I 8 months ago, I wished roaches went extinct. My parents kitchen got infested by those dirty American ones that come out of sewers and I killed plenty. I did research on them and I also saw a cute girl holding Madagascar roaches. Biologists say they're clean so I got some. They're awesome! You'll love them!

We have to look at these things the same way we do mice, rats, and guinea pigs. All are classified as rodents, but the ones your friends have are clean and domestic -- kinda like this oddly adorable, smol roach. It may be a cockroach, but it's different to the pest roach (with an "s").

+Catherine OAO The bottom half of a roach can survive for over I think 6 months and then it can grow back. Just the same as a lizards tail can be taken off but the body half will survive, all it has to do is grow back. So you better vacuum, or gtfo. xD

Huh! Only one of my male hissers actually hisses and it's a hiss that lasts 3-5 seconds. Sometimes longer if he's really agitated.

If I hate them and kill them, just because of my own emotions and ignorance, it makes me a hypocrite because I’m an advocate for the humane treatment of snakes- and try to help people learn that snakes deserve to love regardless of our own emotions and ignorance. No, the vast majority of cockroachs are just as clean as any other wild animal. The ones you mostly encounter in the house are disgusting filthy creatures.

Katina Foster Actually, the bigger they are, the less "dangerous" they are (they arent dangerous at all to be honest). There's a smaller chance they will escape and big tropical species usually die at lower temperatures.
It's a Madagascan hissing cockroach, and yes you can keep them as pets. They're a calm, gentle breed that isn't prone to the manic, often frighteningly fast movements of your common household pest cockroach. They're also clean and free from the bacteria that most other roaches would carry due to their lifestyle of feeding on leftover food bits that fell behind the stove.
