    I used to absolutely HATE wedge soles, more so a Moc-Toe. Ever since my ankles started aching after long walks, I’ve come to really appreciate and like wedge soles now. Moc-Toe’s included.

    By the way, specifically for hiking, many heritage boots makers are using a combination foam midsole with Vibram Kletterlift bottom sole for their tactical/hiking boot line.
    You keep the benefits of support of leather boots while gaining traction/durability of a hard Vibram and shock absorption of a wedge/sneaker.

    Great work! Thanks for putting this video together! Super educational and definitely getting some Gloxi soles 🎉😅

    I wasn't into wedge soles until I got a pair of Red Wing 877, and those totally changed my mind! 🥾🥾😊👍🏻

    Wow !! I'm considering getting a pair of wedge sole boots now. Honestly I wasn't particularly drawn to them ( till now ofcourse) and the primary reason was that I believed they'd get incredibly dirty. My next pair of boots might just have wedge soles though. Thank you for these very informative videos.

      I didn’t like wedge soles and bought the Grant Stone Field out of necessity. The shock absorption of the sole mixed with the smell of the Badalassi leather after a long day of wear converted me something fierce.

    I know it’s not a wedge but I recently got some supersoles from red wing and they are the most comfortable soles I’ve tried to date!

    I’ve been loving my 2021 Vibram Wedge soles. Have them on several boots It looks great on them all.

    Wedge soles are much better for working on concrete or standing all day on concrete. I did not like the look of wedge soles but after my Razorbacks with lug soles started hurting my feet a lot (working in a warehouse), I decided to try out the Razorbacks with a wedge sole. I felt a huge improvement after that. The pain was greatly alleviated. I still have some pain in my heels, but I think it's to do with the hard plastic used in the insoles. I swapped those out a week ago. Will see how it goes.

    Started wearing boots late last year because my new job requires me to walk 7-9 miles a day. I've tried the vibram Christy, vibram gloxi, and thorogood maxwear. All of them are very good. The gloxi lasted about 250 miles before I resoled, but they could've lasted a bit longer.

    Just had a great idea, mini leather boot keychain’s. I bought one years ago on a trip to Europe, selling these in different leathers I would love to buy. I think they even sell the patterns on pdf.

    I wanted boots for the winter and snow, is wedge sole good for that or should I go for lug sole? I will wear them infrequently around town so mostly concrete flat surfaces

    How do the Jim Green wedge soles compare?

  • @Highland_Paddy
    @Highland_Paddy 10 місяців тому +1

    Again: Wedge soles were originally meant to be hunting boots for quieter stalking, but this likely works better back East on flatter terrain than the kind of rough mountains out West. They do have mountains back East, too, o' course. Most people see them now as work boots for construction and cement and stuff.

      I typically want more lugs when hiking, that is.

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy 10 місяців тому

      I don't know that I would call it WEDGE if it has HEEL, more like just ONE-PIECE.

      I got the Grant Stone [and some others] but then LL Bean came out with their Kangaroo Upland ones that are about half the cost and might be worth checking out.

      Many of the other patterns will be similar, but some will be harder or softer rubber.

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy 10 місяців тому

      The white ones typically darken up pretty quickly, but usually not uniform enough to be truly "attractive".

    Great Video. Thinking of picking up my first pair. Is there a wedge sole that is most durable than others within the Vibram Family?

    • @tacline2
      @tacline2 10 місяців тому +1

      I can't speak for the durability 100%, but I feel like the Vibram Christy is a good choice, and the Gloxi is awesome if you can find boots with that sole from the factory. I tend to find a sole that is more rubbery will probably last longer, depending on use, whereas the more foam-feeling soles will wear down a bit faster. I personally love the look and feel of the Gloxi sole, but I only have a single pair of Truman boots with this sole to use as an example. I don't own anything with the Christy sole, so I can't say how they feel when they are broken in, or how they age. I have only experienced Christy soles during a try-on.

    I'm still in the not liking wedge sole camp, though I do have them on a couple of pairs of Yuketen moccasin style boots. For some reason, they just look cheap to me, especially the white ones. Just a personal preference.

    Im on a search right now for basically this exact video except for with lug soles. I refuse to believe this doesnt exist on the internet, but so far Ive found nothing. Basically Im tying to figure out whats best for me out of all the lugs. Whats inspired the search was looking at boots that White's sells, and trying to figure out the difference between Whites unit lug and Vibrams unit lug. There are so many other to consider though, all the Fire and ice soles, the honey lug, the v100 lug, white's unit, Vibram unit, ect.

    The Thorogood polyurethane wedge sole lasts much longer than the Vibram Christy sole . Thorogood makes a dual density variant of the sole also .

    • @LastNineBreaker
      @LastNineBreaker 10 місяців тому +1

      I have the same notion of my Wolverine 1000 Mile wedge boots. It honestly seems that polyurethane soles last multiple times longer than rubber wedge. I can wear rubber/poly soles the same amount, and the poly soles will still have detailed pebble tread, while the rubber wedge soles will have smoothed out completely

    • @DalesLeatherworks

      @@DalesLeatherworks Dale, I think you would agree ethical is a relative term. There was a 60 minutes story recently about how prevalent child labor is in China. Do you know for sure that they don’t hire children? Would you be willing to ask Wyatt Gilmore about it?
