Is there anyway you can do a tutorial of installing this custom software? I have a DESR-7700 on the way in the mail, and I can't read Japanese at all, this would be of great help. The unit will come with a Memory Card containing McBoot, but I've never dabbled with PS2 CFW/ homebrew.
I received the DESR-7700 and it's fully operational. However I do not know how to softmod the XMB to run in English. Already made some progress. Creating 128Mb partitions and adding .kelf files inside them seem to sucessfully get them to show up on the XMB. However it seems like the files to set up the psx's ip adress as well as the ftp tools have been wiped off the internet. Luckily I know an old friend of mine who developed such tools, hopefully he still has the required files to do such a thing. If I can get those files then I could theoretically modify the menu icons and do whatever I want to the new XMB elements. Eventually I should publish all the files somewhere because right now only people in the know have access to everything required and suspiciously no one seems to want to share.. Edit: my previous message was once again deleted by the owner of this youtube video. If you see this before it's deleted, my previous message mentions the fact that every comment I make is deleted as soon as I mentions my comments being deleted. I.E., the owner of the youtube channel is censoring the fact that he's censoring people who share the necessary files to mod the PSX's XMB menus. A small group of people own those files and want to keep them for themselves, they go out of their way to delete every trace of it and they also delete every comment calling them out.
Update: I reached two people who have the required files, that was a month ago. Both responded with "sure we'll share you the files" but after one month none of the two have delivered. One of them I've known for years and I've helped him tremendously in the past, but despite the fact I'm reminding him from time to time to send me the files his response is always "yeah I'll send them very soon". I was definetly right when I said there was a clique of people who are keeping those files for themselves and refuse to make them public.
