I used to consume a terrifying amount of sugar, via coffee.
Now I have a new coffee schedule.
Black coffee only.
Never within 90 min. of waking up.
Never past noon.
Sleep through the night now too.
I always drink my coffee black. Sometimes it's all I have in the morning when I don't have time for breakfast. Who knew that would be a *contributor* to me staying lean. 👍☕
I drink black coffee almost daily now and ive lost close to 12 lbs in 2 months - it works
Our systems are always trying to achieve a state of homeostasis, aka "balance", this is why when you take roids the body produces less test, and when you smoke cigs, your system stops distressing itself naturally, so as it has been thoroughly researched, if you're consistently boosting your motabalism your system tries to counter that by...
Slowing your motabalusm via down-regulating your thyroid causing "hypothyroidism" (also a byptoduct of smoking) as such the benefits of caffiene are reduced, and now you need caffiene to achieve normal levels of energy production.
I'm not saying to stop taking caffiene, but don't be loading up on the stuff in your off-season or on days you're not working out.
Thomas you just described my usual morning routine, whodathunkit? My drinking coffee 20 minutes after waking, then not eating for a couple hours was healthier than I thought? For me, I do it this way because I just do not wake up hungry...

Switching to black coffee seemingly “helped” me to lose 100 pounds in 6 months ☕️
Ahh.. the black part is what I'm missing. 😜
@@droosh took me awhile to get rid of that coffeemate creamer but now I actually enjoy it black
that's awesome!
@@DadBodtoBadDaddamn really? Nice man. I can force down black coffee but I absolutely do not enjoy it at all, it tastes like dirt.
@@dakotatrue12Add a tiny pinch of salt to tame the bitterness of the coffee.
I've been a consistent 12 stones for 5 years. Always drink black with Himalayan pink salt, sometimes creatine, turmeric. I drank a lot, only slowed down recently to give it a break, to concentrate on green tea, typically switch back and forth. Turn 43 soon. I like the taste of black coffee when fasting. Even drank it in the sauna sometimes. Did this while on OMAD to. Again good to cycle off everything now and again.😊
Recently learned to take creatine away from caffeine so now I take in the evening. It was on a few of Erin stern's vids and then someone else mentioned it. Can't recall the other one. So many are talking about it now, it is tough to keep up!
I usually drink coffee with Cacao. Never thought about turmeric and creatine 🤔. So coffee wouldn't make creatine less effective?
But that's only with caffenaited coffee, right? Decaf doesn't work?
Is there any difference in the results/benefits of/from coffee if the coffee is hot brewed vs cold brewed/seeped?
I read that heating coffee destroys some of the nutrients and adds to the "bitterness"; and I actually enjoy and prefer cold brew/seeped coffee (black with stevia) but was wondering how this new research takes this into consideration.
I used to drink only black coffee on my fasting days, but have really got into a little bit of heavy cream in it. Maybe like 1-2 tablespoons, it really does improve the experience.
When I wake up the first thing I do is mix water with electrolyte powder & drink it down. I just can't drink black coffee, so I use stevia & a small amount of 35% cream. Apparently heavy cream does not break one's fast & it also makes more of the beneficial polyphenols in coffee bioavailable.
I drink my coffee black and add matcha (ceremonial grade) first thing in the morning. I can honestly say since incorporating the two, its like all the benefits explained multiplied by a thousand!
i tried that & it gave me the “shakes” so i didn’t continue. but i’m going to try it again. thanks.
@@LaciRae that will for sure be the combined caffeine content of both the coffee and matcha. Perhaps go half on both and assess your tolerance from there 👍🏽
@@SlickNik305 yeah, it was my second cup of coffee that i tried it with. i knew the error at the time. but it was unpleasant enough that i subconsciously couldn’t bring myself to try it again. at least not real soon. i would try it again right now, but i was already almost finished drinking a cup of coffee when i read your comment. so i’m going to start tomorrow.
@@LaciRae I know the feeling. It's pretty scary when you overdo it. At least you know your max! Hope it works for you 🙂
I think it’s awesome you post content so frequently.
Hard to know since I can't get my coffee to do any exercise !
So is it the coffee or just the caffeine thats doing this??
Thanks Thomas!
What's your take on decafe coffee
I have been adding cinnamon powder to my brewer basket and have noticed less jitters as well as the better insulin resistance effect. Plus it tastes nice and sweet if you add enough. So the black coffee is more tasty.
Great idea! Thnx
Is this filter coffee or does instant coffee work ?
❤️ this! I am down to 2 coffees a day after frying my adrenals. So this information really helps me get the most benefit out of my morning coffee! Thank you Thomas!!
try taking l-theanine with your coffee and it will DEFINITELY help you out
What if ya don't like black coffee, but really like it with cream? Is adding cream a big deal, provided the 30-minute wait protocol is followed?
Does decaffeinated coffee have the same results?
I have same question here 🙏
Probably not.
They do seem to be pointing the finger at caffeine as the tool here even though it is a little misleading and unclear, I do know decaf has great health benefits too, I just cant confirm on this question, would love to know as well.
@@makingmemoriescollectingmo1203 it can still be used as a powerful appetite suppressant, the polyphenols and antioxdants are beneficial, something different than water or tea, negative response to caffeine, preference. Aside from the caffeine the nutritional value of decaf is almost identical to regular.
@@makingmemoriescollectingmo1203 I have A Fib keeping my heart rate down is important. I tried diluting coffee but wasn’t as effective as decaffeinated. I like the taste of coffee and the morning ritual of a bulletproof coffee
So
-Macadamia
-Increase fiber and add things like flax seeds
-Sip Acv and or lemon through meals with carbs
- Protien first thing
I'm wondering how iced or cold brew might change the thermic effect. Does it get completely negated or do you still get some sort of effect? Just Curious
Yerba Mate is MUCH better, and quite strong; tastes good on its own too. Loaded with antioxidants; more than green tea & provides clean energy with no crash.
I’ve always been adamant about intermittent fasting with black coffee in the morning, as it has helped me with weight loss. Glad to hear I wasn’t making things up! 😅
Can I get the same benefits from instant, black, decaffeinated coffee?
Is it the caffeine in the coffee or other components in coffee or both, does decaffeinated coffee also work as well?
Can you do a video on how the tannins in tea and coffee effects protein absorption
I can see why not to add cream or, especially, sugar. But what about Stevia?
Does this also work with decaffeinated coffee?
I gave up caffeine two years ago bc of sleep issues. I only drink black organic decaffeinated coffee.
But of course nobody reads our comments......
Thanks for helping me healthy ❤
Hi, love your content. From what I remember Dr Huberman suggests waiting 90mins after waking up in the morning, before having coffee.
Correct and that's what I'm sticking too.
can confirm , he says 90-120, some of us might react differently though.
🎯... exactly. I don't know where THOMAS got 30 minutes from
This is what I do, already, minus the fasted workout. I have no idea if it works, but I'll be paying attention, now.
Try a light roast robusta cold Brew using Evian water or alkaline water, high amount of caffeine with reduced acid levels
Does it have to be caffeineted coffee or will this work with decaf?
What about caffeine supplement? would it give same effect?
What do you think about Matcha tea for fat loss?
What about multiple cups of coffee in one day. Is there an optimal time to wait? I usually have my coffee very late in the morning, 30 minutes or so before my lunch workout (instead of eating-I have some shrimp or something like that about an hour after my workout.)
Awesome ❤
Where are the recent studies? The only two you have linked are from 2004 and 2012.
I know a woman who drank three cups a day after her husband died. So. She was depressed. She also went outside everyday and just raked and did a lot of yark work. She lost fifty pounds very rapidly. Some people have high blood pressure. The coffee makes my heart race. It does seem to kick starts weight loss and teas can too. Just need to be careful
Does this work with any other caffeinated drink besides coffee?
Ty
Huberman says 90 minutes from waking to caffeine. Not 30 minutes.
I can't wait 90 after I wake up lol 30 minutes is what I already do as I grab my coffee after my morning wake up routine getting ready for work as I walk out the door.
Try 10 min. or less. (instant coffee)
The reason huberman says that is for a different reason. I doubt many people care about it. I do ofc but ye.
Would adding salt to black coffee change these results?
Thomas, will the fat oxidation and lipolysis effectiveness be the same using decaffeinated coffee ? Or is this increased fat burning affect coming from the caffeine? Great content btw, thank you!
+1
He doesnt answer to his audience. He is interested only in buisnes
I would imagine it's the caffeine from one of his other videos I've watched in the past he talks about the effect caffeine has on the adrenals which it what helps with fat burning 😊 I could be wrong but that's something in the back of my mind
@@dravrahamrosenzweigThomas does answer some. So your comment is wrong
@@dravrahamrosenzweigusually, yes. Tho he did answer me once. I think he stopped. Maybe ppl were giving him too much shit or it revealed imperfections(as we all have)
I wake at 4 and do a 40 min walk on a incline. At 6 I have green tea and at 8 I have black coffee. All this while fasted and at 9 I have my first meal.
Thanks for mentioning that many kids Multivitamins are loaded with sugar. I also love Usana Kids multi vitamins Usanimals with no sugar added and lots of bioavailable and well balanced micronutrients all GMP standards
This work with decaf as well?
I prefer green tea instead of coffee, what are your thoughts on that ?
Matcha is beneficial too
I love my black coffee. My normal routine is a shot of ACV, wait a few minutes, drink 16oz of water, wait a few minutes then I will have back to back cups of black coffee. First cup I add collagen peptides and 2nd cup I add a table spoon of Mct oil. Am I negating the benefits by adding the collagen and the Mct? I then go to the gym and have some preworkout before.
Does anyone think that I’m negating the positive by adding the collagen and the mct?
May have missed it but what about decaf?
Does this only happen with caffeine from coffee or any caffeine?
If coffee consumption stimulates lipolysis then if one is fasting wont the liberated lipids be used for energy for the body. Not restored. So coffee consumption augments fasting substantially. Right or not?
Does the black coffee have to be hot, cold, or it does not matter?
Thomas: Is the lipolysis driven by the caffeine? Or would decaffeinated coffee have the same effect?
Oh please, answer that Thomas I would also like to know that! 😀
Does it matter if the coffee is decaf? While I generally have regular coffee in the morning, I switch to decaf after noon.
Caffeine may not aid weight loss and can potentially contribute to weight gain. While caffeine consumption induces heightened adrenaline levels, this may result in chronic stress, which can interfere with cortisol function and trigger cravings for calorie-rich food. Although commonly thought to increase lipolysis, which is often claimed as indicating weight loss, this effect cannot apply universally due to the multifaceted nature of biology.
Caffeine's negative impact on sleep quality, which refers here to time in each sleep stage instead of overall length, can sway body from fat burning under stress and sleep loss zones instead towards lean muscle loss. This is because the body often prioritizes fat storage in conditions of high stress and sleep deprivation. Moreover, the credibility of studies suggesting weight loss benefits of caffeine is thrown into question when considering their funding often comes directly from food and drinks companies. Such is a potential source of bias, as these companies may overpower findings from objective sources.
Also, validating these studies is complicated due to the high caffeine consumption among populations (a reported 90% among Americans). This high coffee intake, rather than leading to lower obesity rates, is mirrored by a steady increase in obesity. Whenever weight loss claims are established based on coffee consumption, it is paramount to explore the possibility that the weight lost may be muscle mass rather than fat, or it may have occurred despite coffee intake rather than because of it. Being mindful of these factors would enable caution in accepting over-literal interpretation from research and biased representations, and seek a more balanced, factual understanding instead.
Can we use cinnamon? How would that effect ?
would all this be the same if it was decaf coffee?
what about stevia oder Sweetner?
I am in Germany for 2.5 weeks. I can’t wait to get back to normal w diet , coffee, and exercise
If putting stevia in black coffee, does that change the effect of it.
Is it the caffeine and also the other goodies in coffee or mainly the caffeine...I enjoy Zip Fizz and it seems to be a healthy energy drink.
It's great because coffee and excersice... no problem.
Thomas I'm Craig. From England. Thanks so much.
What I do not understand is that the conclusion in the cited study is ambiguous about the effects of caffeine on lipid oxidation so I don't know if it's aligned with the conclusions on this video.
This is the quote, maybe someone with a better understanding can clarify it:
"Many, but not all, of the effects of caffeine are mediated via the sympathetic nervous system. The effect of caffeine on lipid mobilization in resting conditions can be interpreted in 2 ways: lipid mobilization alone is insufficient to drive lipid oxidation, or large increments in lipid turnover result in small increments in lipid oxidation."
Try drinking Mushroom coffee it has health benefits you don't have to add a lot of sugar and cream. I've been drinking it for almost thirty days now.
Can we have some UK based collabs to buy from please? Can never get access to the stuff you recommend from over here in England. Cheers mate. 👍
What about pre-workout or 0 calorie energy drink?
What does everyone have as their first meal in this case? Pretty much my exact routine with first meal usually being a PB&J and protein shake or if I’m really not hungry, a TwoGood yogurt and a granola bar
Why are you eating at all if you’re not hungry?
Drinking coffee black is the hardest thing for the average American and most people worldwide to do. Most folks are used to putting creamers and sugars in their coffee. Basically coffee has become a desert drink for most folks.
That's a very uneducated assumption... Black coffee drinkers are extremely popular worldwide as well as here in the UK.
@@SlickNik305 Black coffee drinkers are usually not your typical coffee drinkers though worldwide, which is my point. A person that likes coffee black appreciates the natural flavor of coffee, and understands that coffee is like wine.
Caffe Americano is my favorite way to drink black coffee: espresso with hot water. It tastes better than even freshly ground drip
For sure for Americans we love to guzzle sugar. Worldwide is a lot different, I would assume the proportion of coffee/sugar per coffee per person is much lower globally than it is in the US.
@@andrews5733 Yes, that is right. In fact Italians have a specific way they drink coffee, which is much healthier. Dr. Steven Gundry mentioned it on his podcast when he talked about coffee. ua-cam.com/video/qcF8V404scU/v-deo.html
How this fit into bulletproof coffee?
Butter / Coconut is mostly fat so you should not slow down fat burning mode. My guess you could get bulletproof coffee and then go for walk / train and get the same benefits.
1:18 Yo, you about that 5-second rule? lol
Is it coffee or caffeine ? I’m asking regarding green tee…
I take acv first when waking up. Then coffee half hour later, and then fasted cardio.
I don't know a lot of people in N.America that drink black coffee.
Most people drink double cream and sugar, or coffee with milk. Usually with sugar.
I like coffee with just double cream.
Yes, I realize coffee with double cream is not very good for me, that's a lot of calories, depending on the size of the coffee.
But as I mentioned there are a lot of people that do MUCH worse
I think to do a study correctly, it should be done with a certain percentage of cream in the coffee, at least in N.America.
Mike.
🎯... Huberman says 90 - 120 minutes, not 30 minutes.
correct ?
is coffee different from other sources of caffine in this regard
☕️ espressos are needed along the day
Javy + french vanilla splenda = no more preworkout for me
Kudos to dads!!!
Coffee or the caffeine in coffee?
Every morning slowly get wake, have a cup of Four Sigmatic instant coffee with adaptogens, add some additional mushroom extract and caffeine, take my supplements that should be taken on an empty stomach then about and hour later go for a bike ride drinking LMT electrolyte.
When I drink black coffee on an empty stomach, I get a sharp pain in my stomach.
What could it be?
how about waking up, drinking 8 ounces of water w/ 1/8 teaspoon salt and wait for an hour (ish); then the coffee.
U need someone to tell u that that’s ok? Im sure ur smarter than ur givi mg urself credit for and can handle it it’s good!
I think are supposed to wait 90 minutes before having coffee according to Andrew Huberman, or is that wrong?
How bout if you just add a little 2% milk?
Decaf or regular. ??
Coffee is a MTOR inhibitor, meaning it will help delay aging.
I think Dr. Huberman encouraged waiting 90 mins or longer before having coffee-not 30
Astonishing data
There may be new information but to my knowledge Dr. Huberman suggested waiting 90 minutes after waking up to have coffee
Can I still add MCT oil to my black coffee in the morning and have the same effect?
