I grew up in the church of Christ and the congregation would sing this beautiful hymn all the time. So, this hymn is very popular in the church of Christ.
As did I...my sister was 7 years older than me and had the most beautiful alto voice on earth. I can’t sing a lick but when I’m alone, I love singing this with my sister in heaven ....cause I know she’s praising Him with her voice.

I love this song. We miscarried on Easter this year and named him Zion. Not only does this song bring comfort, but it reminds me of the music my grandma loved as well. The Gaithers did such a great job.

Not actually with Jesus as yet but waiting on the resurrection
Actually, when a believer experiences physical death, his/her spirit goes straight into the presence of God to be with Jesus while awaiting the resurrection of the body. To be away from our physical body (i.e., to die physically) is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Also, in Philippians 1:23, Paul says: ". . I desire to depart [i.e., to die physically] and be with Christ, which is far better [better than being physically alive on earth]. So, Paul is saying here that when he dies physically, he would be with the Christ, and this is better than being alive physically. So, it's clear that the Bible teaches that when a believer dies, his spirit goes straight to be with Christ in heaven. Then at the resurrection, his spirit is reunited with his glorified body.
We sang this a my Mom's funeral and when I get to line that goes, "We marching through Immaunuel's ground to fairer worlds on high!" I am done! Love, love, love this hymn! The Gaither's just know how to sing a hymn!
Each time we go to church, receiving sacrament, we are fueling ourselves for this March to Zion. So let us do it.
I joined the Christianity family in 2019 and this was my first song which i really loved.
