I learned this song as a child also. I heard it playing in an episode of “Preacher” which is a AMC series. Hadn’t heard it in a while so came to listen to it.

This militarization if American pulpits turn off a LOT of people. Had I been grown up in this country and if haven’t had deep biblical roots, it’d be very difficult for me to get to or stay in church.

Sing for Hong Kong this song ! They are peace troop facing the battle of biggest evil spirit of China Communism! Hong Kong people all went on streets because they had suffered 22years of the lawlessly, ruthlessly, ignorant ruling by Chinese communist, and they can no longer suffer! I stayed in China for 20 years ( 95-14) as a commom people to pay Christ's love for Chinese, after all I couldn't suffer any more and God helped me left!

Christ's soldier will face persecution, scorn from those he knows, and ridicule. Christ's soldier will love the unlovable and the lost. Christ's soldier is selfless and lives to only glorify Jesus.
I believe the song is about fighting evil powers unseen (satan) not a real physical war.
The bible actually tells you the truth about it. Putting Armor On generally gives you the evidence. Read Ephesians 6: 10-12. It's like when Abraham in Genesis seen God in the flesh. How do we know this fact. He feeds them. Have you ever seen a ghost get fed ? We are told to study the bible, not just read verses. It's how Christians actually learns. It's also why we are told not to depend upon our own thoughts. The answers are in the bible. Another piece of evidence is seen in Revelation where it says anyone who believes that Jesus did not appear in the flesh is of the spirit ant-christ.

America was founded on Christian principles of limited government, unalienable God given rights (sadly denied many in the new nation due to the un-Godliness of men who championed man's enslavement of men over Jesus' word on how we treat our fellow man), liberty and justice. Will use this opportunity to thank one little girl from USA who together with her family sent to me and my family a package full of necessities that we desperately needed in Sarajevo under siege 92-95. In the package she sent her a picture and little Bible. We were not belivers but we were grateful for her present.
I wish her and her family healthy and prosper life. Hopefully she will recognise her self in this letter. :)
