Hi Crystal, I'm glad to see you back doing full album reactions! The Rumors album is one of the most iconic in history. Never Going Back is my favorite FM song by far. That acoustic guitar finger picking by Lindsey Buckingham is otherworldly. Totally underrated guitarist. Great reaction as always!
Hi Crystal! Well here we are checking out what is the greatest pure pop album of the 70's. Isn't it amazing that all the relationship craziness and turmoil behind the making of this would produce such glorious music? Even pop music can be heavy & deep. And yes, Songbird was recorded as a live take, no overdubs, no auto-tune needed! Simply flawless! Great reaction as always, cheers!
Hi Crystal, great to see more album reactions from my favourite music reactor on UA-cam! Thank you for bringing me some joy with your reaction to this amazing album! 'Songbird' is one of the most beautiful love songs of all time IMO.
Glad you got a chance to check this album out, Crystal. Fleetwood Mac originally started as a British blues rock band in the late 60's. "Black Magic Woman", which was later popularized by Santana, was originally a Fleetwood Mac song. Members changed over time. Christine McVie (she wrote and sang "Songbird" here) joined in the early 70s. A while later Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, who were working on music as a duo, joined and completed the most famous lineup. This was the 2nd album the new lineup did together.
Oh wow!!!! That’s crazy what an amazing history! I’m not sure I am familiar with that songs but I am so excited to get into all the music 🖤 Sending you lots of love!
Crystal, I was so excited to see you analyze this one! Your analysis makes me appreciate each song even more. I envy you being able to listen to some of these for the first time! I was always blown away by the guitar on Never Going Back Again. Can't wait till you get to Side 2! Always loved Gold Dust Woman. Saw them in concert a while back, and saw Lindsey Buckingham in a small venue, where he signed my CD. Highly underrated guitarist!
Hey there kind & wonderful Jerry! I appreciate you so much and am so happy to see you on here!!! 🖤 That must have been the greatest experience to witness this immense artistry live! I hope with all my heart you are having the most incredible weekend! 🖤

Whenever the subject of great sounding albums comes up (yes, I'm old and still call them albums), Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" is one of the ones at the top of my list. I don't know enough about recording studios to explain how or why this album sounds so great, but to me it just sounds more clean and "crisp" than most albums. Another example I can think of off the top of my head is Elton John's Greatest Hits album from '74.
An iconic album, and a definite miracle baby of a project, considering how much interpersonal drama was happening behind the scenes, as this was being recorded. The fact that it turned out listenable, let alone this good, I can still hardly believe. I guess it really goes to show that the most talented artists can still make excellent work, in spite of the trials they face.
Somehow I'm familiar with every song on this album without ever having listened to the album. Pretty amazing when every song on an album gets radio play. Great reaction!
Don't forget about 'Silver Springs" which was recorded for, but left off the original album and used instead as the B-Side to the 'Go Your Own Way' single (to which it was something of an "answer" song) and which was released in late 1976. In Mick Fleetwood's first book, he said that when Buckingham and he were working out the running order for the album it was decided to drop 'Silver Springs ' from the album (supposedly due to running time constraints of vinyl, but also it could have been because US record companies tended to not like to release albums with more than 11 songs at the time, as anything over that number cost the record company extra song publishing fees, which cuts into their profits. It could have also been that they just couldn't find a satisfactory "well flowing" tracklist that included the song - or perhaps all three of those factors were in play to some degree . Anyway Mick Fleetwood said that Stevie was MASSIVELY pissed off at the news, and tried to convince them to drop a different one of her songs that she cared far less about instead - namely 'I Don't Wanna Know' but they refused that compromise. She was VERY attached to the song 'Silver Springs' and IIRC she said part of why she was pissed was also because she had assigned all the publishing royalties on the song to go directly to her mother (for whatever reason) and obviously the song would bring in far less publishing money as a limited time release of the song as the B-Side of a single than it would as part of a big hit album that has NEVER been OOP/unavailable. In the early 1990s when she was compiling her first solo hits compilation, she asked Mick to give her permission to include the Fleetwood Mac recording of 'Silver Springs' on that album (as the song was still only exclusively available on the B-Side of the long out of print/not for sale anymore 7 inch 45rpm 'Go Your Own Way' single released about 15-ish years earlier). Mick refused, as he was holding onto it for exclusive inclusion on Fleetwood Mac's planned (and released a few years later) 4CD boxset. Mick said this second refusal was part of the reason Stevie quit Fleetwood Mac in the early 1990s. Its since been added to most CD reissues of the 'Rumours' album from this century - some including it at the end of the album, and some including it in the middle of the album between album sides. Here it is from the original single release: ua-cam.com/video/hMJIjJsprNU/v-deo.html
So glad you’re listening to one of the most iconic albums of all time, certainly of the 70’s. So much talent in that group. Also I hear some late 60’s sound in their music.
Commented before and we have "talked". Just want you to know again how much I enjoy and appreciate your reviews. Crystal, you do such a great job....thoughtful, insightful, and intament. You are my favorite reviewer by far and a bright spot in the day always. Love, peace and blessings your way.
Throughout the album runs a thread of bitterness and animosity, with the exception of Christine McVie's devine Songbird. It was recorded at a university concert hall, with a single mike, using a mobile unit.
Christie McVie was born not far from where I was... I love her voice on Songbird... great piece of writing and her piano playing is wonderful. This is in my top ten best albums of all time. It is a nearly perfect album imho. If released today would this album’s genre be considered modern country? It seems the pop music from my generation has been moved over to modern country. Many of Taylor’s early albums are a prime example that back in the day would not have been considered country. I still can’t believe that this album was so strong they had to leave Silver Spring off the original vinyl release. This was before CD’s. Stevie was not happy. I love the fact that she was driving around the DC Beltway and saw the sign for Silver Spring, MD and decided the city name would make for a great song. That’s about 25 miles from my home. Silver Spring was released as a single in Japan. I picked up the 45 from a small record shop. Imho the live version doesn’t come close to the original recording. Anyway back on point…great reaction! Wishing you happiness and joy in your life!
Thank you so much my amazing friend!!!! It always makes my heart so full to see you on here!!! I appreciate learning all this from you! i had no idea especially about Silver Spring! & you deserve to have the most spectacular day💜
If only on your own time, i would highly suggest giving the earlier, pre-Nicks/Buckingham era of Fleetwood Mac a listen, their first 2 albums are straight up blues, nothing like what they evolved to. I especially like their third album, Then Play On, it really marks when they break away into their own sound.
Greetings and salutations, Crystal! Look at you, pleasantly surprising me with this classic album. One of the biggest sellers of all-time and it still is relevant to this day. “Secondhand News”-supposedly inspired by “Jive Talkin’” by Bee Gees. It’s a great album opener or “potboiler” as Beatles producer George Martin would call them. “Dreams”-I love Stevie Nicks. I seriously could listen to her sing the back of a cereal box. She’s so beautiful and mystical. One of my favorite tracks by the band. “Never Going Back Again”-This one is ok. I personally prefer a track that didn’t wind up on the album called “Silver Springs”. “Don’t Stop”-this was the theme song of the Bill Clinton/Al Gore presidential campaign of 1992. Happy go-lucky shuffle beat and I love the piano, too. “Go Your Own Way”-Love the guitars on this track and the harmonies. And, Mick Fleetwood’s drumming is insane. Not just here, but the entire album. One of the all-time breakup songs. “Songbird”-Who’s cutting onions on here? Such a bittersweet love song. God rest Christie McVie’s soul. What a talent. FWIW my favorite track is on Side 2. See if you can guess it 😉 🤗🤗🤗🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
thank you for each of your break downs! 🖤 I am currently obsessed with songbird & I can definitely hear some BeeGees in Second Hand News & I even get a Queen feeling from Don’t Stop!
I'll never forget seeing Fleetwood Mac in St Louis a couple of days after the Cardinals won the World Series in 1982. Their final song was just McVie on the piano singing Songbird (one of the most beautiful songs ever), which she dedicated to the "world champion Redbirds" (the fan's nickname for them) and the STL crowd went NUTS and it took a while before she could start the song!! Unpopular opinion, I love her voice even more than Stevie Nicks. A true loss for the music world.
That’s a great point! But the things that allows this phenomenon to continue to be crazy is the fact the the IV & V chords are major to a key! I know the lack of a tonal center without the I gives it that mystery. However, the total “anti-major” feeling is still so cool to me considering all the chords used are in fact major!

Love this album, never gets old, unlike me 😁. Please check out the album Misplaced Childhood by Marillion 🙏. A must listen if you ask me...
I was a Fleetwood Mac fan pretty early on starting with their 1969 album “Tnen Play On”. I wasn’t familiar with their earlier blues based stuff from when original member Peter Greene was in the band until many years later. When Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the band I lost interest as the music seemed to me to be more user friendly than what had come before and just didn’t appeal to me as much. That’s not to take away anything from Lindsey Buckingham or Stevie Nicks, two very talented musicians, or the band after they joined. I just like the earlier, less pop oriented, music better. I loved your reaction here, though, and your discussion of how the different chords and chord changes effect the mood of the songs. But still, I would be very curious to hear your reaction to some of their earlier albums. Especially Then Play On, Kiln House, Bare Trees, and Mystery to Me. Also, I recommend a documentary by David Grohl called Sound City. It was the recording studio in L.A. where Fleetwood Mac met Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks and recorded their first album together. The film has this and many other great rock n’ roll stories in it.
Wow thank you for sharing this with me Dano!!!! 🖤 I have lots of music to look forward to! I can’t wait until we come around to it and thanks for the film recommendation!!!! 🖤

If you do Silver Springs, know that this song was a B-side and never actually on the album. Great song. If you don't do it as part of the album, you should as a B-side. It's absolutely fantastic, but the song throws off the album timing abd flow. This has only sold 40 million copies worldwide and was #1 in the US for just 31weeks. That's all.
The follow up album Tusk will blow your mind for sure Crystal. Its Lindseys favorite Fleetwood Mac album since he had the most creative control over it. You dont have to do it as a reaction Crystal. But i highly recommend listening it to on your own time. Its my personal favorite Mac album. I haven't gone back to Rumours in a long time actually. I think due to hearing it so much. Its a wonderful album dont get me wrong. But Tusk is the album i always go back to. Tusk is just that great to me 😊

@@CrystalMarieShannon if you have time to get around to it I think you’ll enjoy the film.

Best sounding coke-fuelled album about relationship breakups.
Wings
Venus and Mars
waaaaay ahead of its time
The best album ever made
( for me , of course)
If you do Silver Springs, know that this song was a B-side and never actually on the album. Great song. If you don't do it as part of the album, you should as a B-side. It's absolutely fantastic, but the song throws off the album timing abd flow.
This has only sold 40 million copies worldwide and was #1 in the US for just 31weeks. That's all.
🥰
Hate when reactors skip thru songs. Just listen to it in. Ur own time
Lindsey Buckingham rocks.
lol
The follow up album Tusk will blow your mind for sure Crystal. Its Lindseys favorite Fleetwood Mac album since he had the most creative control over it.
You dont have to do it as a reaction Crystal. But i highly recommend listening it to on your own time. Its my personal favorite Mac album. I haven't gone back to Rumours in a long time actually.
I think due to hearing it so much. Its a wonderful album dont get me wrong. But Tusk is the album i always go back to. Tusk is just that great to me 😊
Whoever edits this is failing you.
I have seen 4 vids. Within ten seconds that your intro ends. I am done.
I cannot subscribe until this is dealt with dear Lady.
Lindsey Buckingham is probably one of the most underrated guitarist. And then you have Stevie… oh my!
