jeremy hunt haha it is addicting. I use to play with LT1s a lot before LSs became affordable. Those are what I started swapping first. Congrats and good luck on the 6.0 build!
Did the old evaporator work? Or do you have to replace the existing evaporator and condenser for the new compressor? The reason I ask is because I have a 78 C15 that came with factory AC and I am considering doing a 5.3 swap but doing some research first about the AC.
***** Yessssir! Too hot and humid here in Alabama! Well, I have been driving without AC for ~11 years now. The reason for AC now is that the last time I took my daughter to catch the Hot Rod Power Tour, she got sick from the heat. That pushed me to get the AC installed before she rides along with me this year on the Power Tour. I hope all has been well for you Jafromobile!
Really like your videos man, specially from this truck. I have a '73 Chevy c10 but got a little tight on the money so I'm just keeping it low until I get money
Jorge Almaguer Thank you Jorge! I know how project funds can get tight and affect progress, for sure! That problem is what got me started on UA-cam and my whole channel is based off of. Buck stretching, low budget building! Good luck on you '73 C10 man. I hope you can get back to wrench'n on it again soon.
AGearhead4Life Thanks man, it's good to see you take the time to read comments;) And I sure will get back to work in my truck as soon as I get some money. I got the engine and transmision working nice and smooth, I'm thinking on focusing on the suspension now, but only time will decide that. (I might put some airbags on that badass truck)
Jorge Almaguer Yea buddy! I read and respond to every post on my videos, always have. But as the channel grows its getting harder and harder to keep up with it. I've also got a full time job and 3 kids that require most of my time.Glad to year you've got it running smooth. Thats a good comfortable feeling. Yea, suspension is an important one for the appearance of the ride. I want to bag a truck some day, but it wont be my current truck. I want this truck as dependable as possible and a static drop is more dependable.
What a/c control panel, did u install in dash panel to operate a/c? Does a/c panel include heater/defrost control. Are u using ecm to control a/c or is it wired independently from ecm. Lots of diy ideas, appreciate all your postings.
ah yea! Just check them out and left a couple comments. Good stuff. I think I like their idea and how their mounts work. Not only does it allow you to easily fit the compressor, but you can also keep the truck oil pan. Good stuff. It looks like you'd have to make a custom driveshaft, but it'd be worth it.
you think it's possible to make a video on how to wire in all the AC components. I would appreciate it, and might help others who might want to install AC in a non AC vehicle.
@AGearHead4Life did you ever get around to making this video? I'd like to know how you wired it also. There are 2 plugs on the truck compressors, I think the green one is a power signal, and the black one a ground. Also, does any wires from the pcm get integrated into the plugs? Thanks.
I will be trying this reservoir swap on mine 1975 caprice. ......... I always thought those sacrifices laying off of the ECM?...... Is that a static ac compressor
godcarsmoney The cluctch engaugement signal does usually go through the PCM, that way the PCM knows to idle the engine up too. I believe this type of compressor just switched on/off and the fancy new style was variable, around 2009?. I do wish that I had installed some type of high pressure switch on this system. I may have to go back and add that.
Doing my research you can only use a 2000 compressor because it cuts on and off with a clutch... I call one of the junk yards in my local area and I noticed it was two different kinds what year truck your compressor came off of.... I'm pretty sure its 99/2000
godcarsmoney You know, I thought it was a 2001, but it could be older. I just knew that I was looking for one that didnt have the sensor coming out of the rear of it to give more clearance. I can get a part number on it. I do believe that it was a Delphi.
Those 2 wires (dark green to your compressor clutch and light green to your fan relay) have power coming out presumably from the AC switch in your dash. Is there a high pressure or low pressure switch in your AC system? I’m finally getting around to hooking up the AsC in my LS swap. Thanks
Youre a life saver buddy! We are putting a 5.3 in my dads suburban and this clears some of the questions up. Out of curiousity, what type of shop did you take your AC lines to to have modified? We are almost thinking it could be easier, depending on the controls inside the truck, to fit up a 2000s style heater box to the truck and run all the factory components, but his has rear air which makes things more difficult...
you just run one wire to the AC compressor? I know the ls have tow wire can you explain how you do that. because I want to do mine. Thanks for the video have a great day
Thx for this video. I'm trying to pull a vaccuum on my Chevy truck. I've located the High valve, but can't find a Low valve. How did you do this? Just use the High only?
Pat Maki You could just use one valve. I didn’t notice my old C10 setup to Gabe a high pressure switch, so I didn’t install a port for one. I regret that! I am now about to open the system to add the high pressure switch and to use a R134 condensor from a newer truck.
I have a stock set up I am experimenting. With I have no accumulator. In line . I also do not have a thdrmostatic on off for my fans. Its manual. Caused the last compressoer to burn the clutch up. I'm just saying. Ben following you for a while. Most of your info is the best out there. Keep on keep in on man! I admire your diligents .
Doby Gillard Thank you Doby! That is a huge complement. wow. And thanks for the continued support! Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering what will happen from too high pressure on the high side. I learned part of it the other night the hard way. I had no fan becuase they were dependent on the PCM to turn them on once the engine reached operating temp. Well the engine cooled enough, so the fan shut off and the pressure climbed extremely high on the high side from the heat in the condenser. The next thing I knew there was a loud pop and the system seemed to have purged the pressure until I cut it off. I didn't locate the relief valve yet, but that's what seemed to have happen because its working fine now. Now that I have the fan to kick on with the AC its been fine, but it would be nice to have the clutch kick out by a high side pressure switch in case that fan failed for some reason. So I'm still working on that. Any idea if the old C10 system had a high side pressure switch?
Not that I am aware of. I am searching for a 1/4''SAE female flare fitting w/valve depressor. like would fit on a R12 service fitting. Two wire cut out at about 395 and back in at 225. Binary switch. I found a 1/4'' male and ordered it then found out it needs to be the female... live and learn... always the hard way for me... Time is getting tougher to come by. as you can tell by my april 12th reply...
Doby Gillard I definitely here you on the value of time. Its gotten so rare lately that it scares me. So far my AC seems to doing well and dependable. Fans are wired to come on with the AC now and its stays blowing about 50*. Temp around here during testing has only been 82* on average though, but very humid.
Short answer is yes, it'd work fine. Long answer is the only binefit of the LS1 heads is the 2" intake vavle. Those heads flow the same as 5.3 heads though. That is why I like to keep 5.3 heads and put the 2" valve in them. That give a great compression ratio.
Do you remember what year/model you ordered your liquid line? Mine is an 82 and the condenser ends were on the driver's side. My replacement condenser has the lines on the pasangrr side, like yours.. Thanks in advance.
Robbie Niavez Wiring info can be found on LT1swapDOTcom. But this video and the video description can give you more ideas. ua-cam.com/video/VogkaVNGkCU/v-deo.html
jeremy hunt Not usually, the yoke will stick out an inch further. You may be able to find a way around that though. I had to use the central mounting ones because my 80e yoke that I had had an inch thicker head on it.
Im confused. Is your ac controlled by the c10 or is it wired into the trucks stock controls? Also, you said your compressor is wired into your electric fans? Im confused. Is that the only way to do it?
+KAnthonyStrick1992 Compressor isn't wired into the electric fan. Most AC systems are pretty much self controlled. They have two switches that control it, a high pressure switch and a low pressure switch. My truck only supplies that power that turns it on when I flip the AC switch on my dash, like a light switch. Once the AC system has power it's on. The AC clutch may cycle, but that is hailed on it's own by the pressure switches.
+AGearhead4Life okay I get you. I was thinking that nd just got jumbled when you showed the relays. sorry. lol. was your truck factory a/c? and Im reading a lot you have to wire the compressor into the pcm. Did you by pass that? and if so, how?
+KAnthonyStrick1992 Yes, my truck was factory AC. I just ran the original AC compressor wire to the new compressor. I did not run it to the PCM yet. Giving a signal to the PCM will allow it to idle up when the AC is on to help it idle better. Also, the AC can interrupt power to the compressor when you floor it. For now, I just turn off the AC when I floor it.
anthony jackson Hey Anthony! I'm not running an engine oil cooler, but I do have a large trans cooler. I dont know the brand of it since I acuired it used. I just looks like a large one that you'd get at a local parts store or a U-Hual.
I have a Cheyenne1987 myself each time I step on the gas it does a popping noise like if somethings moves by the right front wheel do you might know what it could be?? Its only when I press on the gas pedal hard for burning out or taking off fast...
i have a 1980 chevy truck long wheel base i'm using a 5.3 motor and tranmisson out of a 2002 chevy truck . i was wondering could i use the 2002 chevy truck yoke from the front and could i use the same driveshaft with no cutting on the driveshaft
Byron Callic The yoke would work, but probalby the yoke that you have would work too, if you have a th350. If you do have a th350, your driveshaft will be too long and I dont think the one off of the 2002 would be the right length. I've alwasy wanted to use a newer driveshaft and have it cut to fit our trucks. Theyre aluminum and the light weigth would be good for rotating mass, but theyre not as strong and with added power have been known to explode.
Byron Callic No problem. Oh, I also meant to tell you that you could get a driveshaft from a long wheel base C10 that had a 700r4 trans and it'd fit. You'll need to either use "one inch set-back" swap plates or Dirty Dingo adjustable swap plates.
Rico Turk No, I havent made a video on the fuel system but I guess that would be a good idea. I ahve a '87 truck. So it was alreadi TBI fuel injected. So it had the intank pump already. All I did was swap in a higher pressure fuel pump. Then at the end that connected to the TBI unit, I cut the hard line and used high pressure hose and doubled high pressure hose clamps. If you get on my Facebook blog page from a desktop, go into the photo album of the truck and you see pics of what I did there.
Talking about up under the motor mount? Yes, I bend them up closer to the frame, but I think that was mainly so that I could cut on the mount that I had made more.
nandoGdog Possibly but I don’t know for sure. You could also change out the booster. Better yet, convert to hydroboost. I’ll be converting to hydroboost soon.
+Big Rone Well I wouldnt say that it was easy, but to me it was worth it. I love these seats. I made a video that gives you an idea of how to make them fit. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/a6HsY41BiZI/v-deo.html
I bought a new one from a local parts store for two reasons. Mainly for the warranty and I bought new instead of the cheaper reman version, because I've seen way too many reman compressors warranty returned when I sold parts for four years. It could have been installer error, but I didn't want to take a chance.
+AGearHead4Life Yeah sounds about right i was gonna order one but i was also thinking about warranty issues if the issue comes around... Hows the a/c been performing I know those ls style a/c compressors last a while...
I don't know much about the life of the LS compressors, but I've read something about a "deslugger" kit for them. To help them start up slower to keep from trying to compress the liquid refrigerant since the compressor is down at the bottom of the system. IDK just something I read. Anyway, it's been working great man. I'm loving it. Stays blowing around 50* in the cab. Of course I want to improve it as much as possible, like any gearhead. So I want to put the foam in between the condenser and radiator to help air flow. Im also not currently using the high speed function on my fan, because I need a larger relay/fuse setup. Finally I'l like to add a fan to the condenser to help it even more at idle. These are all not necessary things, just me trying to make it the best it can be. I want it to sit in a parking lot for hours in 105* heat outside and have no issue staying cool inside. lol
+AGearHead4Life I understand I bet when you get the cooling fans wired on high that gonna be just what your looking for... what did you electric fans come off of?
David Santillan A relay will have a trigger side of it, that wire will be what triggers the relay. Are you following my Facebook blog page or our group FB page? If so, I can share a diagram that I have on there of how a relay works. It's also a diagram of how to wire in a radiator fan relay.
AGearhead4Life well I wired it directly to the fans and that made my whole system shut off and will only come on when the fans come on when the temp is at its point but I cut off the wires I point that I hooked on the fans and still no power to the ac system
David Santillan Yea, that power wire coming from the trucks AC harness cant supply enough power to run the fans. That's why it is used to control a relay. All a relay is basically a switch. It allows a small amout of amerage to trigger a switch to allow a large about a amperage to pass. So you'd use that wire from the AC harness to trigger the realy to allow power through the thicker power cable to the fans. It is difficult to explain in words, but is very simple. That is why I offered to show you the diagram. Its way more simple then it sounds. You probably blew a fuse trying to run the fans on that wire. Check your fuses.
txchevyrida GM truck and suburbans around 2000 and up. the 6.0s arent near as common as the 5.3s though. Thats why the 6.0s cost twice as much as a 5.3. 5.3s are everywhere and can be picked up complete with all accessories, harness and all ready to run with about 150k miles for around $700 on average.
victor chavelas Victor, I'm not sure how to take your comment. You know a lot of people leave sarcastic rude comments and when they do, they use all caps and lots of punctuation like you have. I can easily misunderstand your comment as sarcasm and not respond to it, but I'm thinking that in this case this might actually be a serious question. If so, all you have to do is type it normally.
SORRY BRO THATS HOW I TYPE .. BUT MY IS QUESTION IS SERIOUS HOW CAN I INSTALL N A RELAY I GOT A 82 CAMARO Z28 I SWAP THE MOTOR THIS YEAR TO A 5.7 VORTEC IN I TOOK THE FAN CLUTCH OFF N IN PUT TWO ELECTRICAL FAN N A ELECTRICAL FUEL PUMP THE PROBLEM IS I GOT TO SWITCH ONE THE FUEL IN ONE FOR THE TWO FAN BE THAT SWITCH BLOWING UP TWICE A MONTH SO WAT CAN I DO..........
Ah, ok. Are you on Facebook? On my FB blog page, I have a picture of how to set up a relay for a fan. It seems to help simplify the process a lot. When you go to my blog page "AGearHead4Life" on FB, you can find the picture in the photo album named "LSx Swap Parts and Related".
+David Bush There was one plug with two terminals that was on the firewall that went to the old compressor. I used the same wire that went to the old compress to go to the swapped one. If I remember correctly, it didn't matter which of the two to use, because they were both hot when the AC was on. I think the other went to a solenoid on the throttle to idea it up for the AC.
AGearHead4Life my compressor on my 5.3l out of an 01 Tahoe has two two wire plugs on it. One in front, and one in back. Which one do I supply 12v+ to turn on the compressor?
+David Bush The one in the front, near the AC clutch. The AC clutch has an electromagnetic switch to engage the clutch. The other, on the rear, is likely a high pressure switch.
Where did you order the hard line that goes from condenser to dryer? I only find the line for like a Burban that has rear auxiliary AC. Thanks in advance
I just want you to know this video was the nail in the coffin for the 350 in my old c10.
I wish there was a video on the AC lines or parts need to make them work
I'm addicted with this LS shit... While my lt1 sway has only been in the truck for about a 8 months now... Got a 6.0 last week...

Love the cup holder and power inverter I think I will do the inverter in my dodge because the 12 volt charger went out
The Beige Wonder Thanks man! I'm pretty excited to have a good cup holder finally and that power inverter will be handy.
Subscribed, I've learned more from you're channel than any info on google for the swap thanks man hopefully I can finish my k5 for next years ls fest
+Guillermo Simental Awesome! Thanks man! Glad to hear it. Good luck! See you at LS Fest next year.
You should come out to the swap meet / cruise in at CBI in Athens this Saturday morning.
ChevyShawn I may do that! Thanks for the heads upF! I didnt realize that it was coming up already.
No problem. I'm gonna try to have the spare parts truck ready to drive out there. Maybe we will see you there.
Ive been looking for this videos for a while will be doing this to my 97 c1500.
dang gears you know whats goin on thx for all your updates
***** Thanks Harry!
Did the old evaporator work? Or do you have to replace the existing evaporator and condenser for the new compressor? The reason I ask is because I have a 78 C15 that came with factory AC and I am considering doing a 5.3 swap but doing some research first about the AC.
that break reservoir looks awesome hope it works on my 1975 Caprice
+godcarsmoney so is he using just the reservoir from the s10 or the whole master cylinder?
+smilinjoe23 I'm using just the reservoir from the s10 because its lower profile.
+smilinjoe23 Master cylinder came from a full size truck, around 2001.
+AGearHead4Life so the 1988-2000 mc from full-size truck won't work?I misunderstood it and grab one from that model year.
+smilinjoe23 I doubt it'd work. It was a 2000's rounded S10. I dont know the year. I went by the look of it.
just wonderin if that brake master swap will work for earlier models. I have a 82 and love to do it.
Howdy Mark, beautifully done work as always !I love your attention to detail......John
Wanderin' Moose Hey John! Thanks man! I often wish I added more detail. Hopefully I include enough of it for most.
I luv it man,and I just also bought a new set of cooper cobras too for my 86' cutlass same as yours but mine are 215,nice update.

+Domingo Perez The master cylinder is from a full size truck. The reservoir is from a S10. Both came out of the junk yard.
10-4 ok I will have to go and check that out this weekend thanks again bro.

I used the factory C10 controls, but need to redo it to allow the PCM to control the AC so that it shuts it off at WOT.
tejas steelworks makes engine mounts for c10 that you can leave the compressor in the stock location without notching the frame.
Cool! Thanks for sharing. Good info. I'll have to check them out.

godcarsmoney I think that the 2001 schematics showed it run through the PCM but only as a clutch on/off.
Where you get lt green wire mine's got dark green wire only .
Do make brackets to use with 1990 chevy silverado a/c bracket to mount a sander 508 a/c into stock bracket thks

+AGearhead4Life Okay thank you. I was racking my brain all last night when I was thinking how to wire this. Thanks for the information.
+KAnthonyStrick1992 No problem. Good luck!
Mark can u tell me were you got the metal bar from to do the radiator support mod
anthony jackson Man, I lucked out and my buddy Greg hooked me up with it. It's 3" square tubing and about 30" long.
anthony jackson You're talking about the upper radiator support from my latest video right? Not this video.
So its a master cylinder off a 99-06 silverado and resevoir off a 01 s10?
What do you wire the wire off the stand alone harness AC the white wire up to
very good.
what did u do to control idle on motor to kick up when u turn control on
Did you keep the electronic programming for the A/C in the ECM or did you delete it
yes, it's in there. I used the controls on the truck to control the compressor though. At least for now.
What were the fitting sizes??
How do you wire since the r4 has a high pressure switch on back
How low did you go on your C10? I like that stance for mine
Hay mark need to know if you are running an oil cooler on your truck if so what kind
anthony jackson Hey Anthony! I'm not running an engine oil cooler, but I do have a large trans cooler. I dont know the brand of it since I acuired it used. I just looks like a large one that you'd get at a local parts store or a U-Hual.
Why does not have expansion valve?
I have a Cheyenne1987 myself each time I step on the gas it does a popping noise like if somethings moves by the right front wheel do you might know what it could be?? Its only when I press on the gas pedal hard for burning out or taking off fast...
Braulio Ortiz Maybe something in the suspension? like a ball joint. I'd inspect the suspension and see if you can find any play.
What did you do for the vacuum line that goes to the hvacs controls?
How did u make the ac fan switch work with the temp switch?? Will they back feed?
don't understand the brake set up would like to here more about it if there any cutting involved
Awesome video!!!!
BADAZZ93STANG Thank you BADAZZ93STANG!
i have a 1980 chevy truck long wheel base i'm using a 5.3 motor and tranmisson out of a 2002 chevy truck . i was wondering could i use the 2002 chevy truck yoke from the front and could i use the same driveshaft with no cutting on the driveshaft
Theyre aluminum and the light weigth would be good for rotating mass, but theyre not as strong and with added power have been known to explode.
thank you
Byron Callic No problem. Oh, I also meant to tell you that you could get a driveshaft from a long wheel base C10 that had a 700r4 trans and it'd fit. You'll need to either use "one inch set-back" swap plates or Dirty Dingo adjustable swap plates.
I don't know if you made a video on your fuel delivery system but I would like to know what you used.
If you get on my Facebook blog page from a desktop, go into the photo album of the truck and you see pics of what I did there.
what kind of belt did you use on this
Byron Callic I used the stock 2001 truck 5.3 AC belt. Its on a separate grove on the crank and power spins the AC. Gates # K040378
thanks man
would you have to move the brake line a and run it close to the frame after you remove the gas line
Talking about up under the motor mount? Yes, I bend them up closer to the frame, but I think that was mainly so that I could cut on the mount that I had made more.
What did you do for the high side
How about speakers in door
Also need to know the sellers name for the eBay head studs I looked on ebay but was unable to find the stud kit u had on the ls head vid
anthony jackson They may be on back order. That seems to happen often. You can find them on alpermotorsportsDOTcom website too.
Hey, I'm in the process of converting my 1987 r10 to have factory ac and I can't seem to find the hard line. Where did you get yours?
Chuck Norris I got it from LMCtruckDOTcom.
is th drier a factory c10 unit or is it from something else? trying to figure out how to get a/c working in my jeep
cleenrob Yep, I used the factory C10 drier, evap and condenser.
Will that 2001+ master cylinder work with my 75 C10 booster?
nandoGdog Possibly but I don’t know for sure. You could also change out the booster. Better yet, convert to hydroboost. I’ll be converting to hydroboost soon.
Do you know what the 2 greens wires from the drier go to or do? Trying to get my AC working in mines
txchevyrida Sorry man, I'm color blind. I just chase or test them all to find out what they are. Are they connected to the low pressure switch?
How hard was it to put the seats in. Just found one for my 86
+Big Rone Well I wouldnt say that it was easy, but to me it was worth it. I love these seats. I made a video that gives you an idea of how to make them fit. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/a6HsY41BiZI/v-deo.html
excelente . bien helado . buen trabajo. saludos.
celso guajardo villarreal Gracias Celso!
I have a question is the brake booster also from a newer truck
No, it's the original.
Did you use original push tube from your old master cylinder or did u use the push tube from new master cylinder??
Where you from bro? You sound chicano like you’re from TX or California, did you grow up around Mexicans?
How much Freon did you charge into the system?
I do not remember at this time, but I bet that it was around two cans.
@agearhead4life where did you get your new compressor from? ebay or parts store?
I bought a new one from a local parts store for two reasons. Mainly for the warranty and I bought new instead of the cheaper reman version, because I've seen way too many reman compressors warranty returned when I sold parts for four years. It could have been installer error, but I didn't want to take a chance.
If you wanted the cheapest but good, I'd bet that rockautoDOTcom would have the best price.
What did u use as a block off plate
anthony jackson For the EGR port on the intake?
Where did you get your swap hardwear kit ?
Motor mount
Where did you get the hard line?
David Santillan The hard line that I had to replace, from the condensor to the evap high side? I got it from LMCtruckDOTcom.
This is good info!
Your wheels are 8's or 10 wide"?
7s in the front and 8s in the rear.
How did you wire the fans with the a/c ?
David Santillan At 4:00 in this video it shows and explains what I did for the fan to come on with the AC.
AGearhead4Life so it's from the pressure switch to the relay but what plug on the relay?
What can u pull a ls 5.3 or 6.0 out of?
txchevyrida GM truck and suburbans around 2000 and up. the 6.0s arent near as common as the 5.3s though. Thats why the 6.0s cost twice as much as a 5.3. 5.3s are everywhere and can be picked up complete with all accessories, harness and all ready to run with about 150k miles for around $700 on average.
HOW CAN YOU INSTALL A RELAY ON A FAN???????
victor chavelas Victor, I'm not sure how to take your comment.
You may not need an account to view the page either.
K
they're both green....im confused. lol
What yea ur truck
87 R10/C10
👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽💯💪🏾
Help me plis
which one of the plugs are you hooking into on the compressor? I believe there are 2 plugs.
Hello. How did you wire up the compressor?
How to you control the high side cut off switch?
Where did you order the hard line that goes from condenser to dryer? I only find the line for like a Burban that has rear auxiliary AC.
Thanks in advance
Hernan Leal I cant remember at this moment, but I would expect that I either got it from LMCTruck”DOT”com or possibly RockAuto”DOT”com.
AGearHead4Life thanks. I didn’t check lmc but rockauto only had the one I was talking about. I ordered it anyway. I’ll see if I can plug it somehow
