Love it! I just spent 4 hours searching through videos and saw a bunch of them trying to explain the reconciliation steps but they all kept skipping. If we were accountants or bookkeepers, we wouldn't be looking for videos that explain basic steps. I need a video just like yours to EXPLAIN things. Thank you so much!!

But Ms. Sharon, may I ask, I'm a bit confused with regards reconciling the Business Savings Acct in Xero Demo Company. There are prior period reconciling items which I can't find a match in the Account transactions. Why I don't see an OK button, and tabs for Match, Create, Transfer, Discuss, Find & Match. I imported the csv file of the bank statement and there are reconciling items that popped out but I don't know how to proceed because the tabs are missing. I don't know if there was a locked period on it. The video tutorials I watched focused only on Business Bank Acct which reconciling items arise in current year. How do I go about prior period reconciling items?

I get confused with the sales tax and how it’s getting entered. If I add the “tax rate” when I create a reference is it being entered as a portion of the “spent/received” amount. And is the “tax rate” then used to crest the Sales tax summary?
I't seems bank recon in Xero interface is easier than in QB becoz side by side you can see the bank statement data vs the Xero data and it's not that complicated , am I right Mam?
Hi Marivel, yes, having the bank statement and account transactions side by side is easy for bank reconciliation.
If your bank statement is in Xero while your account transactions are not created yet, its even easier to create your account transactions based on your bank statement.

Hi! Do I need to update the opening balance if I do the reconciliation everyday ? For example I have done my reconciliation for 17th July and if I have to do the reconciliation from 18th of July. Do I need to update the opening balance for 18th July that I got as a closing balance from 17th July ?? Thank you.
Hi Sanjay! You don't need to update the opening balances everytime. In your example, your closing balance of 17th July will be your opening balance for 18th July. =)

Hi Jessica Avila! The purpose of bank reconciliation exercise is to ensure that your transactions in Xero accounting matches the transactions in your bank statement. Hence, bank statement balance and balance in Xero must be equal to achieve bank reconciliation.
If your bank reconciliation is done and your balances matched, do not delete, add new or edit any of the transactions to the reconciled period. It should be closed and not be touched anymore. Any changes to the reconciled period will alter the balances and it will not be reconciled.
If you have clicked "OK" on the transaction in the reconciliation page, it will disappear from your reconciliation page. If you have not clicked "OK" and it still doesn't appear in your reconciliation page, check your payment transaction if the bank account is correct.
Try out the above and let me know how it goes! =)
Hi ma'am, I'm from Philippines. I'm finding a part time job where I can use my knowledge in xero acctg, I have earn my xero advisor certification last June 2020. I do practices and watched different tutorials in youtube including yours. My reconciliation is done, but does not match by bank statement on actual account. How can I fix this?
Hi Tshepzinto! If you have followed through all the steps in the tutorial and the balance still doesn't match, it'll difficult for me to say exactly what's the problem and how to fix it without looking at your Xero accounts. Here are some questions to help you to troubleshoot your problem.
1) Is your previous month's bank reconciliation completed and balances matched?
2) Is your Statement Balance (as shown in Xero) same as the balance shown in your bank statement after you have imported your bank statement (CSV file) or bank feed? (The balances as at the date that you want to reconcile)
3) Are all the transactions in your Bank Reconciliation page matched and cleared?
Try to check if these are done. Let me know how is your bank reconciliation after you have troubleshoot these! Waiting to hear from you! 😀
