i leaned over and told my wife, this kid is special. Not sure what year that was, but it was at a bluegrass festival in Lowell Mi and you on stage with your dad. Then I got to see you with Don Julin multiple times and I'm really blown away. I love the entire Home album, but this song is just incredible. Not pure bluegrass, it would fit right in on The Band’s first album. Just outstanding for its lyrics, instrumentation and feel. Billy’s got an old soul. Fantastic work.

ua-cam.com/video/ENoym2o6PZg/v-deo.html
That's not really out of his realm bluegrass has long been stretching what is in it's boarders it's only people who seldom listen to it think of it as a limited form of music.go to a bluegrass festival you see what i mean.
I would also love to hear him do me and my uncle and there are a few more I would like to hear him cover like friend of the Devil and he may be one of the few that could do China cat sunflower some justice...

This guys talent is something special.
My mom passsed away in 21’ this song reminds me of her. Thank you Billy. 🖤🖤🖤
Whelp, I'm buying whatever album this comes out on.
Update: Album bought!! So good!
@Raul Giron sit back... hit shuffle... enjoy!!
Entire album is spectacular
Why not just buy every single he sells aswell. :)
Rlly makes me wish I wouldn’t of stopped playing guitar seriously around 23. Picked it back up a few years ago at 29. Basically haven’t put it down. This dude is so inspirational.
Same but I quit around 11-12. I picked it up earlier this year.
Glad this popped up again. Have to listen twice.
My dad passed away recently, this song just hits me so deep It's hard to explain, squeezes the emotion out of you like orange juice. My dad and I loved playing Bluegrass together, I rly wish he was around for me to share some of Billys tracks with. Every time I'm listening I feel him next to me clear as day just tapping and bobbing away with me.
The mellowest I've ever heard him play. Nice
When music comes from the soul it reaches the soul of listeners everywhere, you can't help letting it take you over!!
This is what the people need
Brother this world needs your energy….thank you.
It's only February and yet, this is the best goddamn thing I am going to hear all year.
This hits me hard, missing You Richard, gone way too soon!!! Miss you so much Honey, thanks Billy, another Great Song
Ol’ Billy n da boyz are among the greatest musicians of our generation…. Hands down.
This song is incredible. Thank you Billy, thank you for what this song says to me, and what it means for so many people. So real, so good, It truly is beautiful.
i leaned over and told my wife, this kid is special. Not sure what year that was, but it was at a bluegrass festival in Lowell Mi and you on stage with your dad. Then I got to see you with Don Julin multiple times and I'm really blown away. Bought every CD you came out with and recorded every live performance with a digital recorder [thanks for permitting me Billy] I really miss you here in Michigan but I knew you'd get right where you are and am happy to have had the privilege of seeing at least that part of your journey first hand. Keep it up and most importantly, keep that heart and soul that really sets you apart from technical guitar players. Peace.
I was at the Lowell show. 2011? Right next to the river, off the main drag
Words can't describe this masterpiece. Thank you sir
Ran into Billy strings yesterday on the UA-cam and this kid can rip and sing at the same time. Its unreal. His psychedelic riffs with his band are incredible.. i think im buying tickets to CT on September 9th. 3 hour drive but I got to see this dude live!...and i think I'm bringing my dad he gonna want to see it. He doesn't know it yet but he does trust me..
I cry so hard when the damn music starts…. This song cuts so fucking deep…. Past the quick, past the meat, past the bone…. It sears the soul with memories of loved ones I was forced to turn the last page on…. My brother in particular….
I love the entire Home album, but this song is just incredible. Not pure bluegrass, it would fit right in on The Band’s first album. Just outstanding for its lyrics, instrumentation and feel. Billy’s got an old soul. Fantastic work.
This is what happens when you do it for the love of the art. My God, Billy... never stop loving the art. "Mercy" is right!
This song has come up in the midst of all the other Billy Strings I play at work. I've seen strangers passing through come to a halt and listen. A switch goes off, a heavy nerve is struck. Regardless of preferences, upbringing, race, or species, this is a song for all the living and dead of history.
Man would Levon and Richard and Rick from The Band like this guy. Incredibly good.
Beautiful song and WORDS one of the best talent to come around in year's you are a true blessing
Billy is 100% one of those rare talents that we're all blessed with once every few decades. Truly honored and grateful to be alive and able to experience his talents coming to blossom and fully peak.
Love the black & white. Love the music. Thank you for sharing 🙋♂️
Beautiful song...the chorus sounds like how heartbreak feels ... Hope he continues to be in his own lane- doin what wants..just putting out words and melodies. This kid is great.
Im 53 year old drummer/singer....ive been coast to coast in different bands....but, I have to say, and respect a man that sings and sounds honest...you CAN NOT find this type of a wonderful singer/ player/ all around just simply.....
Awesome...best in the world to you
Beauitful! One of the best talents in music today
Breaks me down enough to cry everytime. These words say it all for me. Amazing piece of music right here.
Best musician in many years!!!
I always considered myself a decent guitar picker. I've got that settled now. Lol. You're the best to ever pick up a guitar Billy Strings.
He's among the best.
Billy Strings is the greatest flat-picker of all time.
@@docdarlin5491 Dont get me wrong, Billy is amazing. Definitely the best alive right now, no doubt. But i think Tony Rice and Maybe Doc Watson has him beat.
Amen 🍻🥂
Molly is the best claw picker🖕😝 fight me idgaf
This song gets me every time. It haunting, sad, beautiful, and brings some very close people I've lost to mind. Can't get enough of it, tears or not!
Oh man me too!! I'm crying like a damn baby right now. I can't listen to this without crying, I really miss my Momma!!!
If this album doesn’t win a Grammy it doesn’t mean a thing
It did
Holy crap I just heard of this guy, WOW ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
Pretty simple formula. Billy plays a song. I like that shit.
RIP Robbie! No one completely understood the deepness of your pain brother. Just wish it wasn't your time at 33. Wish I could've said more. We all took your smiling for granted.
Thank you Billy
Who are you referring to?
@@johnlehman4614
A friend, a son, a brother, an uncle, someone who was loved by so many people in our community; more than he probably knew... Unless you're in Upstate NY you probably don't know... ☮️
Why do you ask?
@@ONSLAWTT probably because you posted a public comment of someone by name.
David Hathaway beautifully written

Thank you. It could never do justice for the kind heart Robbie had. ❤️
One of the best songwriters on the planet right now. I hear a lot of Stephen Stills in there.
A truly beautiful song and performance.
Billy you are a god damn treasure
This is on a whole new level man. This needs to be a radio hit.
At 66 I'm so happy Billy Strings has come into my musical life.l My guitar and banjo have come alive again.
Thank you for practicing so hard Billy. It makes the stuff you do so very enjoyable! Best always from a new fan in Clearwater, Fl.
One of a few songs billy does that induces a crying spell but in a good way
You are just stunning Billy! Watching all of your UA-cam videos - solos, duets and the band, for months now. Your vocal versatility and extraordinary guitar skills ROCK!!! Wish you were as famous as you are gifted - fingers crossed the world gets to know you better! Every time I watch your video(s) my day brightens and I have a huge smile on my face! Thank you, thank you thank you!
It ought to be illegal to be that talented.
Billy Strings is the coolest musician I've found of since I can't remember when.
Thank god there's hope for the future of real music.
Never noticed the riff in the beginning has so many similarities to the song “Loser” I wouldn’t be surprised if Billy purposely tipped his cap to Jerry there. Wicked good
my mom has been telling me that since he first released the song!!!
Guy Wilson glad to know I’m not alone!
Cecil Gibson 100%
He is a fan for sure, you will hear much more if you listen to other songs of his especially live performance s
When you said 'Loser' I automatically thought of Beck's 'Loser'...
How does he do it? Channel all the feeling into the singing and playing? When I try it all comes out the corners of my eyes 😭
Billy you have written a masterpiece this is so moving and just beautiful I can't help but bawl like a baby every time I play it which is daily it's truly getting me threw some of the hardest days I've known thank you .....and your version of wharf rat absolutely stunning from one head to another I'm greatful....p.s love you lisa always
❤❤❤
I've been playing for 30 years and I'm a believer my grandfather and my dad told me if you want to improve your accuracy and speed play bluegrass music every time I listen to great players and Billy you are a great player I can understand what there were talking about
This really hits home with two friends of my own, easily coulda been me.. beautiful stuff Billy!
I honestly don't know where I'd be in life had I not found this TRULY amazing music made by this AMAZING person. Thank You Billy!!! You have truly been a light in the darkness for me!!!
I lost 3 friends to heroin/fentanyl in a 8 week period 2 years ago and this song hits close to home. Billy has composed a beautiful and eloquent song in memory of his friends and I am sure I'm not the only other person that can relate to it. To every one who has lost a family member or friend to this horrible epidemic you have my deepest sympathy. It hurts.
6/26/21 the anniversary of my mom's passing. I stood in legend valley and watched you sing this. ❤️ A moment I'll never forget. Thank you Billy ❤️ Your music means more to us than you could even fathom.
Billy...this is a wonderful Masterpiece~~This is just beautiful...I just love it!!
It honestly says it all!! Thank you!!
A perfect masterpiece it is
I’m 66. I love Billy and his music. Great band. Talented musicians. Wow, awesome ☮️✌️
FANTASTIC!! One of the best you've done in my opinion!!
I try to sing this song while I'm driving and I can't complete it without choking up. Please keep songs like this coming. Helps heal my old soul.
