- Installing headers on bmw z3 can be difficult but 97 M52 engine but on the 2.8L the replacing original stock exhaust manifolds was fairly straight forward. Welding required! Here is how to DIY it.

It sounds very smooth. i like it. I take off my hat to you but that's an upgrade, I would not ever do. I installed Headman headers to my 1970 El Camino and I was replacing gaskets, monthly. The most stupid upgrade I ever did and since I had thrown away my multiple exhaust, I had to buy another one to never again, have that problem.
Y0ur exhaust sounds much better than a muffler delete this guy did to his white Z3.

I have a '97 too, but I got the supersprint ones, and I was mostly looking to see how much of a pain in the ass it's going to be to work around the engine mount and I was hoping the cross brace wouldn't have to come out. I'm not sure if my car even has a real, functioning cat, but I got the full race exhaust-- header, midpipe, and pretend-muffler, so that'll be interesting. FYI, it doesn't really add much power by itself. It's an excellent supporting mod for aftermarket camshafts and ITBs or another less restricted intake manifold, but you need a tune to really make use of it. All these fun mods do otherwise is make your engine run more efficiently and make your car look and sound cool. 😎 But anyway, cool to know I can get rid of the air pump. And congratulations on getting your comment section's cherry popped. 🥳

I keep seeing people pulling factory manifolds without cats is this a m54 engine thing? Running a 2000 z3 2.5litre thanks in advance.
No, M54 has cats on exhaust manifolds.
This is M52, that went in to Z3 in 1998, but has a extra air pump and pipe to manifold for emissions.
It's the same engine as in E36 328i 96-99.
Sounds great, maybe I missed it, but what’s your muffler setup?
My setup is a custom cat back with a twin loop muffler. I did a video on it.

Thanks for that, I’ve already pulled the trigger on a Eissenman race exhaust, just waiting for it to come in, definitely need to investigate some headers and hiflow cat now though… keep it up with the great vids, not too many of us tuning Z3’s any longer, cool to see! 🙂🤙
