I went to Memphis last week and I think it's an exciting city to visit!! I went to see Beale Street, Mud Island, Lorraine Motel/Civil Rights Museum, Sun Studio, Stax Museum, comic expo that I met one of the greatest comic book artist in James O'Barr (The Crow), ate delicious food (Central BBQ, Gus's World Fried Chicken) and the people that live there are friendly!
I'm 70 years old. I grew up in Frayser in the 50s and 60s. Memphis back then was clean, quiet, and safe. That are along Frayser was quite upscale at the time. I understand that the neighborhood I grew up in, Ridgegrove, is a war zone now.
Sometime go through Midtown and other neighborhoods to the east along the Poplar corridor towards East Memphis and the suburb of Germantown, the more upscale but historic strip between North and South Memphis.
I think Memphis has so much potential for growth, but it's pretty ghetto and stagnant for now. I was in Memphis last year and would say it was both a disappointment and a surprise.
Since Katie is an NSync fan if you guys are in Florida you can go see Joey Fatone and friends st Epcot this weekend,Friday through Monday.Timberlake wont be there but the other NSync members probably will along with other 90s singers usually from groups like Boyz II Men and even a rapper like MC Serch.
Turn left on North 2nd Street? Ok. What could possibly go wrong? Lol. I did that on North 3rd Street trying find something the first time I was downtown. Also turned up the wrong way on a Getwell off ramp from Knight Arnold or some other street. I was scared and embarrassed. Famous Memphians? Aretha Franklin and her dad Rev. C.L. Franklin, Issac Hayes, Bar Kays, Al Green, 3 six Mafia, 8Ball and MJG. Memphis has several high profile church ministries. My faves were the independent charismatic World Overcomers Church, Temple of Deliverance and Greater Community Temple, of the Pentecostal COGIC denomination.
I watched this video. I'm sure it can be rough at night. If your not from this area , You might get yourself in trouble driving around eyeballing people. Just like Oakland.
Wow bro...calling out your girl for her driving?? Bad look. She was driving 20mph because you were supposed to be shooting video! Duh. Love your effort and video footage, but you know nothing about Memphis and it painfully shows. Keep grinding.
Justin is actually from Shelby Forest, Millington outskirts .I remember riding to school on the bus and making fun of his school because he was on the disney show. lol. I grew up in Northaven in the early 80s and ninetys. He is a musical genious. I am proud hes from The South.
Frayser is not bad you went to the west side of frayser the old part frayser was an original suburb and has large houses on big lots that are affordable. Unfortunately I don't think you will find the horror your looking for. I truly know where that spot is but I'll never tell you lol. For the most part the city is nice. You forget to talk about st jude the largest children's cancer research campus that brings people from around the world in uptown. You forgot to go down the parkway system and realize it was the first in the world. Forgot to mention Overton park which was the first park to stop a federal intestate from crossing through a city. You didn't to go highland row around the u of m and show the redevelopment or drive poplar avenue from front street to Collierville its like the Peachtree of Memphis. Go tour Raleigh and the Raleigh springs town center. Go to shelby farm park wolfchase go tour the front street area at beale drive down south main travel down union Avenue or Madison go to all this places and you will have an accurate and great representation of Memphis Come downtown at night when people are out. See big river crossing go to crosstown concourse Cooper Young broad Avenue Tillman street

Central to east Memphis is more urban but still low rise. North and south are at times semi rural suburban like "urban" hoods.
To a small town dude like me, Memphis is a big city. In fact all a city needs is a population over 50,000 and I'd call it a metropolis.
