It was kind of odd and unexpected, but hey everyone has their poison lol
Didn’t know Chips Dubbo was an ODST
So am I

Remember, Johnson comes first
That scene in The Flood was heart-wrenching. Sacrificing herself and hundreds of others to save billions if not trillions.
The unsc had outer colonies too but probs only billions of people
I forgot exactly where I read this but the UNSC lost like 42 billion people to the human - covenant war which was 50% of their population so not in the trillions yet.
@@lievre460 bruh what? There were 38 billion casualties which can be either injuries or fatalities
I mean, I get why she did it, but couldn't she have killed Silva or relinquished his command? She and Wellesley were already wanting to do a thorough cleasning of the ship before coming anywhere close to human-occupied space; if she saw the danger and thus removed Silva from his position, she could've ensured the safety of Earth as well as the safety of her fellow marines, whom's experiences could've proven invaluable to the UNSC, especially when the Covenant and Flood find their way to Earth.
@@smoldoggy1005 i think the first terminal in H2A briefly shows numerous fatality totals for numerous colonies (insinuating that every human colony/planet has met a similar fate) by 2552.
12:21 How did Silva think that would end well? In the (very unlikely) best case scenario, all Flood would be purged from the ship and approximately 4 seconds after returning to Earth he would get court martialed for blatant disregard of the Cole Protocol.
I always thought of his blind reasoning too.
I mean how else was he going to get ALL of the surviving UNSC personnel off the Halo before John blew it up... There wasn't another ship with a Slipspace drive large enough within reach that they could have obtained..
@@mouse3872 yeah they speak about that. I'm referring towards his blind pride they could have got the longsword and the remaining pelicans from the Autumn and chilled in drift while longsword returned to earth . Many scenarios possible. Yes he wanted to save his soldiers but he knew the risk of the flood getting to earth.
@@jasterfett2721 I understand McKay made the correct decision. But also this was a fight for survival the Truth and Reconciliation was by far the best most reliable choice to increase the survival of the UNSC forces.. assuming they were lucky enough to find a surviving LongSword nobody knew how far the Ring was from Human space.. it could've taken 6 months just for a Longsword to get to Human space then another 3/5 for the rescue forces to arrive back to the system were the ring once was in that time 1. The covenant could have arrived and killed all of the human forces floating in space helplessly or 2. They starved to death due to lack of supplies..
@@mouse3872 I said that specifically for this response just for the fun thought. I know man. I know. Like I said the endless scenarios . I blame Johnson lol just kidding. I definitely feel for wanting to get back to earth and . I just would've held out until we all died and figured out how to keep held down at the ring and try to survive. Like if silva didn't hate chief and the Spartans so much and worked together more , I wonder how that would've played differently. Anyways thanks for feeding the idea with ne
Aw I thought this was going to be about Michael Baird from Midnight in the Heart of the Midlothian. That big scottish ODST is an absolute powerhouse of a man. I was grinning when I first read about him beating Covies to death with nothing but random assorted items he found lying around. Plus he was so willing to sacrifice himself to maintain the secrecy of Earth, which probably saved humanity. And he most certainly went out in style, backhanding a Sangheili so hard that his mandibles were broken.
McKay is also awesome though. It is a shame she will never get the attention she deserves.
I believe he took a drug that removed the bodies "coded in" holding back mechanism so you don't destroy your muscles and tendons. That's why he could wreck shit for a bit.
*You mean...a rumble drug?*
@@Dappersworth Yeah he did. The human body has a natural response to hold back our strength so we don't injure ourselves. This natural response does actually become overwritten in stressful "fight or flight" situations, giving us access to strength that we just normally don't have access to.
@@wowliker642 Yes, there are stories of people lifting cars or even a helicopter. But at great cost, most of the time being permanantly injured in some way due to the crazy amount of strain it puts on your body.
@@Dappersworth Well not in a way a Spartan can but they have lifted sections of cars and helicopters. Also they have lifted off boulders as well.
*Thank you* Private First Class Wallace A. Jenkins last words to 1st Lt. Melissa Mckay after she severed the connection between the bridge and engines of the Flood-infested cruiser Truth and Reconciliation causing it to crash into the ring killing all Humans, covenant and Parasites on board,...saving Humanity.
Dude Jenkins didn't deserve his fate one of the most horrific deaths of all time but even in that state he was a badass.

Installation 00: "Anyway, today we're looking at an unsung hero of the Battle of Installation 04. An ODST whose defiance of her orders-"
My brain: "Melissa McKay."
She's not unknown to all of us, thankfully.
YO I THOUGHT THE SAME THING.
I forgot her name, but knew who this video was about the moment I saw it
God I knew who he was talking about too but I couldn't think of the name either
It took me a minute, but then it clicked in my memory.
"The Truth and Reconciliation... If that hulk had made it to Earth, it would've doomed us all..."
Yep, the moment I heard him mention Installation 04 I knew it was gonna be Melissa McKay
She saved us from the flood and her glory seeking commander. Honestly I hate Silva because earlier in the flood book he was calling Spartan 2’s a failure and near the end of the book he was going to risk his entire species just so that he can be seen as the hero of the battle for alpha halo.
Silva hates the Spartans because back when he was a Lieutenant, at least 2 of his men died because ONI wanted to see how effective John was after receiving his augmentations 2 months prior. 4 of Silva’s ODSTs were thrown at John. He killed 2 of them and left a third crippled. Silva was understandably pissed that two of his men were killed in ONI’s “training exercise” and John did not face any sort of disciplinary actions. Though in John’s defense he had no intention of killing them, and he didn’t know how to hold back in his newly augmented body. Because of this, Silva hated the Spartan program as a whole. Though it’s obvious that while Silva’s hatred of the Spartans is understandable, it’s not entirely justified. John did was he was trained to do, and he unfortunately wasn’t skilled enough to hold back. The real villain in this case is ONI, who created the whole scenario to begin with.
Ranger 357 I forgot about that thanks. But seriously the man was legit going to risk his people for glory.
Advanced Recon Commando -Umbara That he was. He wanted to prove to himself, his men, the UNSC and the rest of humanity that Spartans were a failure and that the future lies with regular marines, and more specifically the ODSTs. That’s why he wanted to take the Reconciliation to earth even though it had covenant troops and flood contained inside several of the lower levels and compartments of the ship. To try and make himself and his men look amazing.
@@ranger3576 And that's why odsts are inferior. They hate anyone who isn't part of their unit. They're jealous of the spartans and fear being replaced. Silva is a testament to that. They sought glory, just like the brutes. The brutes wanted glory and not the elites. Same for odsts. Mckay was the most honorable odst I'd say.
Koffepot I would also say that Buck was pretty honorable too. Not all ODSTs were bad.
We need a “Halo The Flood: ODST” dlc as part of infinite’s 10 year plan
Agreed.
Fun fact Halo: Fireteam Raven is that but as an on rails arcade shooter

The Nylund Trilogy is Fall of Reach, First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx.
The Flood was written by William C. Dietz

Regular soldiers never get enough credit in Halo, or even sci Fi in general. These events make it clear that, although outmatched, humans are very capable and competent warriors. Wish we'd see more of this in the genre.
The Gaunts Ghosts series is like 17 books so far based solely on a group of guardsmen in one of the best sci fi universes of all time

My boi Jenkins needs a lire video to himself on this channel.
He has the saddest story in all of Halo.
'The Flood is the by far the best book in Halo. It explains a lot of the unseen sceans.
ah yes private Jenkins a good man but a terrible camera man
I love how Halo writes it's military characters, you get brave, loyal soldiers, true heroes, ordinary men and women, much like our own servicemen and women in the miltary in real life. I read the Flood years ago, and am happy to be reminded of these lesser known stories like Meslissa McKay. Halo is full of good writing and respect for how it handles military topics.
Spartans are the pinnacl of Halo's heroism, but ODST's, they push themselves to be the best they can be, yet have flaws that are only human (in the case of Silva.)
I more feel bad for the random marines that died as a consequence of her actions.
They survived:
- Boarding of the Pillar of Autumn
- Survived the taking of Alpha Base
- Survived the covenant's attempts to re-take the base
- Survived the Flood taking over the ring
- Survived boarding the Truth and Reconcilliation
These marines EARNED the right to escape and head back to Earth. But sadly, this was not their fate. I get WHY she did it, and you could even argue it was the right thing to do. But that doesnt make it any more disheartening, if every UNSC solider were as tough as these men then maybe we could've beaten back the Covenant before even Reach!
I am sure if they were as aware her they would do the same
If she didn't do what she did, there wouldn't have been a war to win. The flood would have infected the earth, and most likely would not have been stopped at any point, or the covenant would have found the ship and glassed the earth like they did to reach. Yeah it does suck that they died but there was no question that she did the right thing
You haven't heard of Staff Sergeant Marvin Mobuto, have you?
Right after the outbreak on 04, and before Chief ever went into the Library, Guilty Spark basically kidnapped a marine and took him to the Library.
"Ah... The OTHER Reclaimer. His combat skin proved even less suitable than yours... I found him wandering through a structure on the other side of the ring, and brought him to the same point where YOU started." (Guilty Spark to Master Chief in the Library)
Poor marine, but even Chief was impressed by how far he had made it down there. His body when found "was so mangled that even the Flood couldn't use him."
So many of the best men and women died on that ring. I remember my first playthrough of CE, I legit tried saving every Marine only for all of them to die at the end. It was disheartening.
@@roberthipolito1351 He probably detonated a grenade in an act of suicide to prevent infection, RIP
@@socialaccount0000 one can hope, the alternative is that he died after his body was mangled and broken to the point it wasn't worth even being turned into a carrier form
Last time I was this early, the Human-Forerunner War was still raging.
damn, for me the last time was the eradication of the Precursors.
Oh yeah, I remember her from the book I read! Shame Melissa and so many other good, innocent soldiers had to die due to Silva's stupidity and blindness for glory; too foolish to know he was most likely dooming the Earth and the rest of the human race the UNSC is trying so hard to protect. Heck, the entire galaxy perhaps knowing the Flood... 😪
Silva was trying to prove something, to himself, his men, and the UNSC. That the Spartan program was a failure, and that the future lies with regular soldiers like marines, and especially his ODST’s.
@@ranger3576 still thought it was dumb that he puts glory above all, his pride was too far that it blinded him not knowing the consequences of taking the ship to earth.
The flood thats likely still on board would've infected the people of New Mombasa and I'm sure the videos of Sadie would've been that of true horror
@@BanishedSilentShadow3318 It was dumb. And ambition proved to be his doom.
ah reminds of the Michael Baird from Midnight in the Heart of Midlothian
ODST’s, the best humanity has to offer without needing major augmentation
Bit of a shame that some of them are pricks, though.
@@starhammer5247 you’ll find pricks anywhere
@@wet_weather_imp That is true, but a prick like Silva is a bit of an uncommon one.
My girl McKay finally getting the recognition she deserves
I remember reading all about this in the first Halo book. By the time I finished that character arc with McKay choosing to destroy the ship, I was absolutely fascinated. It takes a great human to make a decision like that. Only a minority of other people put in that situation would make the same decision. In this case, Earth would have easily been taken over by the Flood. The UNSC would have to worry about the Flood and a strong Covenant fleet without Earth or Reach.
The moment you said Installation 04, I instantly knew you were gonna talk about Lt. McKay. I wish she was a much more popular character than she is.
I remember reading The Flood and the ODSTs we're my fave. I like how the whole time we were playing Halo all this other stuff was going on. I always liked Mccay more than Silva. RIP to a true hero who stopped humanity from being infected.
I know for a fact if I was in her position I would’ve done the exact same thing, the survival of humanity was and is paramount, nothing else comes close to being more important. But also the fact that Jenkins tried to do it while he had control of his body is amazing
"When the doodoo hits the cooling device"

I'll keep an eye out for it.
It is enough that we know and remember these actions of Melissa McKay. And that she should be honoured in this way, is more than enough glory for her. (Salute - fist over heart)
The only one smart enough to realize commandeering a flood infested ship is a bad idea.
Also, @installation 00, Glen Fiddich, good stuff. I get my dad a bottle for his birthday and christmas every year.
You make absolutely amazing Halo content. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I've followed HiddenXperia and LateNightGaming for years and their content is awesome, but the amount of depth and detail you go into... You deserve to have as many subs as them. Easily.

Ah Melissa McKay, one of my favorite characters from Halo The Flood.
Also shoutout to Staff Srg Marvin Mobuto, a marine who almost made it through the Library alone.
Imagine making it that far. Surviving Reach, skirmishes across the Halo ring, and then the Flood but a glory hound killed you.
That scene when she encounters the flood for the first time is heart wrenching.
"Spartans are called in when the doo doo hits the cooling device" lol you got me with that
I like to think that jenkins infection wasn't unique and instead every one infected has their consciousness push to the back of the mind and is forced to watch and feel what happens
Yeah I have a feeling they are still there just not able to control themselves
Jenkins was one of the few unlucky(or lucky, depending on how you look at it) who still understood what was happening and had partial control of his Body at times inspite if the Infection Form.
@@siva4wotblitzhero531 yet we basically never hear of anyone else being in partial control...hmmmmn seems pretty contrived to me.
I remember reading about her in the Halo The Flood, when Flood Form Jenkins was unable to destroy the fiber conduits there was a moment that was mentioned between Jenkins and McKay. When she realized what he was trying to do and the dangers that Silver's actions could cause she looked down to her belt and grabbed the grenade. It was then Jenkins actually had enough control to nod to her as if to say please. When she did it there was this moment of solace that could interpreted when the grenade was about to go off from Jenkins and McKay. McKay closed her eyes and basically embraced the end.
Seems a tad contrived, the whole Jenkins thing I mean. Like why didn't more go through what he did? "Oh he got an older, weaker, infection flood" bullshit, surely there were other older, weaker infection flood then yeah? Oh but we never hear about any of them.
Glad you made this video. This needed to be mentioned in detail since it was pivotal to Halo.
I love that bit Halo 5 music you used in your newer intros...such a great piece that perfectly fits the tone of your great videos.
Also, I would happily pay for a spin-off ODST game which follows this character's story (as well as other members of the Autumn's crew during the events of Halo CE). It would be so cool to have Fireteam Raven adapted for a console/PC story game.
Michael A. Stackpole is a legend in Sci-Fi writing. As the Author of the book "The Flood" (Halo CE game events Novel) he did an amazing job adding in more information and story within the framework already established by the game.
I feel that Gage Yevgenny is another unsung ODST hero
"When the doodoo hits the cooling device."
I'm stealing that for use in casual conversation.
I think you mean "when the excrement hits the oscillating wind device".
I've read the flood quite a few times.
Nice to see it get some coverage.
So many more Marines and Crewmen could have survived the ring if those Pelicans just beelined to Space instead of the Reconciliation. They then would've regrouped with the Chief and Johnson's Pelican.
No greater time to experience childhood than having an unfinished human-covenant war going on. Waiting halo 2 then 3 then odst. Then reach. Then halo 4. Then I was an adult. I enjoy reminiscing in the unfinished lore with my friends back then. Love this channel.
I just finished reading halo the flood. McKay was an awesome ODST who I feel should have survived with the chief. She will be remembered.
You never fail to make an emotional video man
I've only played Halo Fireteam Raven once. You definitely need 4 players to do it well. Tried to sync it with my XBL account, but cell service at most arcades is garbage.
Had that exact issue over a dozen times before they all closed and i really wished theyd port it to the xbox like the good old days of time crisis when they got ported to console way back when
Don't forget. Jenkins even had the strength to mouth the words Thank You before the ship exploded
Kinda reminds me of The Boss from MGS3. The only memorial she gets is a small headstone that reads "In Memory of a Patriot, Who Saved the World" (and a bunch of people totally misunderstanding her dream and fighting over it).
Just started reading Halo: The Flood. Sad I know what happens now, but it’s always a treat hearing you describe what happens.
Another excellent walk through with a glass of one of my favorites. Only I would have paired it with a fine Padron 1926 cigar. As an aging Spartan II you have to appreciate the finer things. Thanks for another episode and great content.
I remember Jenkins. He did what he could all things considered.
It's been well over a decade since I've read those early Halo books, but I knew the scene you were going to bring up the moment I read the title of this video.
I may be a late late but cheers mate. And thanks for all your effort into bringing us these videos.
As soon as I saw the title, I just knew it was about McKay. She's one of my favorite non-Spartan, non-Elite characters in the Halo series.
I love your videos dude, keep up the good work!
More of a macallan enigma man myself good sir, paired with a nice smokey cigar to compliment. All the lovely sound of your voice discussing humanity kicking ass.
There's so many stories where a hero gives their life for the greater good. And because of their sacrifice, the day is saved. The survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after.
But the hero never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. In the end, they just gotta have faith.
Ain't that a bitch.

If it's any consolidation, this week has me at the triple malted dewars old fashioned.
"We did what we had to do! For Earth! An entire covenant armada obliterated, and the Flood! We had no choice. Halo ... It's finished."
"No I think we're just getting started"
I read the book shortly after playing the game for the first time. I was surprised by the amount of story that wasn’t a part of the game - all the things going on that I wasn’t aware of while playing. And I vividly remember the scene where MacKay sacrificed herself. I’ve carried it with me ever since how a relatively minor character could have such a great moment.
Her nobility is remembered.
We all know it's gonna be good when 00 pulls out them drinks
We’re long overdue for another ODST game. Halo 3 ODST was originally a DLC, but imagine a ODST game with more development time behind it. The idea of fighting along side Marines, Spartan 3’s, Spartan 4’s, and maybe a brief mention of 117. I can only dream
What about the ODST who single-handedly prevented the Covenant from getting their hands on an intact NAV database?
ODST Field Motto: We Don’t Need NO Spartans...
ohh, i knew this one, i was thinking it was going to be johnson on harvest but when he started showing the covenant ship and said it was after installation 04 i thought, oh no, its McKay with the flood form, and right after that he said the name, and i got chills
I hate you, you always manage to get that one big shiver down my spine every episode like thi 😂😂😂😂😂
It seems like the story of Melissa was more of the story of Melissa and Jenkins as Jenkins did all he could as well while still infected.
I also found it interesting they had a "dumb ai". Did you ever think of making a video on the different AI types?
There are pretty much just smart AI and dumb AI with the real difference being how shackled they are/how much they are allowed to learn and grow before expiration. The vast majority of AI in the UNSC are "dumb" AI.

An absolute legend. Herself and Jenkins were in equal measure the heroes most would never know about. M'boy fought to his last to make sure McKay knew what was at stake and what would become of them and humanity at large if they were allowed to leave 04. Fantastic characters that were dedicated to the end and deserve their own monuments in their honor.
I'm drinking 12 year old Chivas Regal from a Glencairn glass, when "25 year old Glenfiddich, if you're wondering" comes up.
Glenfiddich IS a great whisky. I've consumed a few bottles of it in my earlier days. Probably finish a few more off before I go on to the unexplored country.
Bravo. Absolutely outstanding! I need to get a bottle of that whiskey. Glenfit 21 yes?
Do we know anything about the Longsword Pilot(s) who’s ship was used by Chief to escape Halo?
you just becaem an absolute legend with the immortal words 'JESUS THAT'S SOME GOOD WHISKY". you should chat with Tex of the BPL as he also loved him some whisky!
So I'm a little confused why is Silvas actions seen as just him acting on glory?? 1. The Truth and Reconciliation was the only ship large enough with a Slipspace drive they could use to get off the Halo before John blew it up.. 2. Didn't John in the book right after the events of the first game steal a Covenant warship with plans to use it to go back to human space... Plus the fact that John (and the other survivors of the instillation 04) came from the ring and could have brought flood forms with them kinda implies that ANYONE leaving the ring would have been a risk to humanity..
I seriously love this channel...
Feet first in to hell with a big bang takes the hell bit to a new meaning
