You should pull people who have had to send their phone into OnePlus.
Their customer support is atrocious, they are not equipped to support the people who buy their phones.
The phone is soft, is well designed and works well, but the moment you have an issue that requires involvement of OnePlus, you are well and truly fucked.

To be fair there are five generations of folds from Samsung so I'm actually surprised there aren't more people that had issues compared to the OnePlus. Wouldn't you have to multiply the failure rate by 5 generations? Your odds of a failure in one generation would add up over 5 would they not?

On reddit I have noticed many posts without any pictures. Some with same pictures. I've had mines since mid November. Have been using it without a case for about 2 moths now. No hardware issues nor any weird software issues some people have. I've owned the Z fold 2 and 3, also owned the xiaomi mix fold 3. The only thing i miss having is wireless charging but not enough to make me go back. I dropped my oneplus open and the big screen was broken on the right side so the touch didn't work. I sent it to the workshop and a little over 14 days passed where nothing happened, so I contacted them and asked what was going on and they wrote back that they were waiting for spare parts such as a new screen but they were waiting for a solution from oneplus and that ended up with me getting a brand new oneplus open however in black the one I had before was green

My comment was read out in the video where I said I'd sent my phone off for repairs and they're awaiting components - that's still the case now. I phoned this morning to see if there was an update on this and they confirmed that the battery has been replaced (I had no issues with that but they replace when opening the device) but they're still awaiting replacement inner-screens. The repair centre OnePlus used don't know how long they will be waiting, but they have said they will try to find out and email me today.
The repair has been confirmed as being under warranty and I didn't have to kick up a fuss about that at all, so the only issue is how long the delay will be. If I get my phone back within the next 2-3 weeks, I would still buy a OnePlus again - the phone was excellent.
My issue came up after roughly 3 months. It was absolutely fine all day, but when I opened it in the evening a bunch of dead pixels appeared along the crease. The next morning when I actually bagged it up to post it in, the noticeable clusters of dead pixels had turned into more of a puddle. But as Shane says, every phone has defective units. I used to be on iPhone and always got the beta OS updates and while I certainly encountered the expected jankiness (sometimes a lot of it), the subreddits were full of people whose phones had been bricked or become otherwise unusable etc, which was obviously more negative than the general consensus or my experience. Just how these things go.

I got my OnePlus Open about a week ago and it has been amazing. I am careful to not ever press on the inner screen when folding the device. I press on the edge of the hinge at the bottom of the phone when I close it. I think maybe some users are pressing on the screen every time they close it and that might be causing some issues.

I love my OnePlus open a lot. But to be honest, there are wayyyy too many software bugs. It just breaks in a lot of ways, which needs to be fixed somehow. Biggest issue: UA-cam goes into 30hz mode even when not full screen(PIP, or normal app) which makes the phone feel extremely laggy, down from 120z. If anyone has a fix for it, please let me know.

I have a very sad story. So, I bought my Oneplus Open 2 months ago after trading in my ZF5 and I loved it. 2 weeks after, I started to notice wifi issues (wifi is dropping connection). After reaching out to the service center, they ended up replacing my phone after about 2 weeks of shipping, inspection, and reshipping. It's funny that the new device I received had exactly the same issue! I reached out again to service, which this time they asked me to ship it for repair. It's been almost a week now and the phone still being inspected. Eventhough I've been having these issues, I can't see myself going somewhere else or going back to the ZF, and I can't trust the OnePlus Open anymore. I'm in mixed feelings now and I don't know what to do next until the inspection is done.

I have to share a weird experience regarding that Wi-Fi issue and the OnePlus open. We had the Xfinity Xfi series 7 router, and all was well.
I then categorically upgraded to the series 8 router because I just wanted a newer router, and the OnePlus open would not connect very well, It was strange
Also, my son said his CPU (Ethernet attached to router) games were lagging all of a sudden since the new router
So I finally listened to him (and me) and went back to Xfinity to go back to the series 7 router and guess what?????
My Open has been connecting fine ever since as has his gaming.
So maybe it was the router?

I babied my Fold, never dropped, never submerged, gently handled it's folding feature... 1.5 years into it, and it suddenly without any buildup or warning, one day just stopped opening all the way, and now there's something pushing n the inside of the screen causing damage. This seems to be a common problem with this generation of Fold and the best Samsung could offer me was an $800 trade in to upgrade to a Fold 5.

I can't prove it, but I think it's quite a bit less than 20%. People who are upset are far more likely to seek out and vote in polls like this. Ask yourself this; if 1 in 5 Open users were really needing a replacement, would I even need to make this video or run a poll? Wouldn't we just know something was terribly wrong? This result should heavily underscore how impactful the negative bias is online and how misleading it is.

I had an Open at launch. Due to some screens already going dead just about 2-months later, and peoples' complaints about customer service and OnePlus having parts issues, I chickened out and decided to get the Galaxy S24 Ultra at launch (pre-ordered), and sold my Open. Well, non-folding phones are freakin BORING lol. So I decided to jump on OnePlus' sale a month ago with $500 off, and purchased another Open along with my own insurance. As I'm well aware now, screens are still failing on Opens (and other foldables) (but still very few). The parts issue is better. But the insurance is the piece of mind. And I now have an S24 Ultra as a backup in case something does happen to my Open. But it really is the best foldable we can currently get in the U.S. (not interested in Google's second iteration).
So I have another Open, which is my daily driver. My brand new-ish S24 Ultra is now sitting in a corner collecting dust, but on stand-by to answer the "call" if it is ever needed because something happened to my Open's screen.

Hi, purchased my OnePlus Open Nov-7-2023 and love my device - no issues and I have put screen protection on both internal and external screens. I take good care of my device and make sure a case is on it at all times - I would hope that will protect my device long term. Like all hardware whether electronics or vehicles - someone some where is bound to have an issue - and with that make it about hating the whole company due to their bad experience. I completely understand - I've been guilty of the same attitude, which is my bad. I've had a lot of bad experiences with Samsung, but it won't stop me from buying their hardware. It's too bad that social media exposes someone's bad experience to cause folks to hate a device. I think it's a buyer beware when you buy an expensive device like OnePlus [aka OPPO] ... just my 2 cents

Every time there's a poll in the Open subreddit, only like 10-15% of people actually say that they've had any sort of issue. I feel like it's a bit of an overreach for a mod to pin that to the top of the subreddit

    • @1wJan
      @1wJan 11 місяців тому

10-15% is kind of a lot. It is a clear sign they have a QA problem.
This poll showed 1 in 5 gets a serious problem with there phone. That is really bad as it is but even worse when 14% dont get the issue resolved at all.
Like Asus they make shitty computers that has a lot of QA issues. But at least they have a good support that fixes or replace the computer within a week or two.

    • @shanecraigtech

I can't prove it, but I think it's quite a bit less than 20%. People who are upset are far more likely to seek out and vote in polls like this. Ask yourself this; if 1 in 5 Open users were really needing a replacement, would I even need to make this video or run a poll? Wouldn't we just know something was terribly wrong? This result should heavily underscore how impactful the negative bias is online and how misleading it is.

    • @1wJan
      @1wJan 11 місяців тому

@@shanecraigtech That is true. But it still highlights that they have a problem. Because even if it isnt 20% that has a problem but half that it is still a huge problem.
And it seams to be enough of a problem that this has come up.
Just look in this comment feed where people witness about there problems.
It would be really interesting if someone with a UA-cam channel would dig down in this and see if OnePlus woud comment
I have never experienced an issue with there products but there support is really bad.
I have contacted it twice. First when I was supposed to get a discount when regestring to their event but the link didn't work and then to ask about VAT since it wasn't written out on the invoice.
The later one being a huge problem for me since that thing made the phone 25% more expensive. But I didn't get a reply any of the times.
This was okay back in the day when they had a flagship phone that was a third of the price of other flagships. But it is not okay now when there phone cost 2000$ and is more expensive then the Samsung Fold.
So I'm not surprised that a majority of the people with problems didn't get help. (But still not okay)

My question and concern is ( if you have the insight) can you add insurance such as squaretrade to the phone if you did not purchase it directly? And my second question is when i go to purchase the phone is there anything in particular i need to be on the lookout for and need to test? Such as display and particular settings?

So now i hsve a dead inner screen and need my phone for 2FA at work. Their policy is absolutely ridiculous. so yes they do "support" their phone but there is no way i can take advantage of this support ans they know damn well and that actuslly suits them fine. Its good for the business model when your customer is unable to get support while they get to claim that they provide a warranty for repairs.

So let me start this off by saying back in 18 my wife got a Samsung Galaxy S9 and within 30 days the motherboard crashed so you would think that we could get a brand new device and we absolutely did not. They gave us a refurbished phone for a phone that was less than 30 days old and failed. I am on my fourth one plus device and I've never had any issues with any of the phones. I traded in my OnePlus 11 for the OnePlus open. (The OnePlus 11 is an amazing device but I knew I was going to get the OnePlus 12 and the upgrades were worth the trading. They also gave me $680 for my trading value.) So what I would say is whatever brand you go with just know that there are no guarantees just like car companies produce lemons cell phone companies produce limits as well.

Frankly Shane, not even having seen the Reddit post I'd be now reluctant to buy OnePlus Open just based off of the poll you took.
We're looking at 21% of people that needed help from the manufacturer. That's every FIFTH device malfunctioning in some way coming out of the factory.
Yes there's "complain bias" in such polls, however keep in mind your viewers didn't specifically visit your poll to complain, they were just made aware of it, and both the ones with working and the ones with malfunctioning devices were able to vote, so this bias imo would be much lower than in the Reddit channel that people would seek out to complain specifically.
Those are super high %, it should have been in 0.x% not in double or, hell, even single digits.
