- In this video, Michael covers the manual focus ring on the HX300 digital camera. Although it's not obvious, the manual focus ring can be used while shooting video; and can also be used for macro shots. Check out this video to see which settings can be used to unlock this fun and powerful feature

I bought this camera a few days ago and your videos taught me a lot. Thank you so much.
You're welcome! Glad to help.
Hi Michael, When I bought this camera I was a serious beginner, practically everything I've learned about how I can use it, I've learned from your videos. Thank you immensely and I really hope you continue to make more instructional videos.
Heather Webster - I'm happy to hear that the videos have been helpful. Thanks for taking time to provide feedback. I have plans to produce several more videos - if/when I can find the time!
Thank you so much for this video! This information doesn't seem to be in the manual for this camera and yet it is very important. Manual focus during video is necessary for many situations where the auto focus is confused!
For a long time i was lookin for answer to that question..."manual focus is possible or not with this camera?" thank you very much..Now I got the answer..
This feature is something I love about this camera, being a semi-pro. And you can use it also for video. LOVE IT!!!!
Wow. I being using this camera for long time, but i don't know how to set manual focus in video mode. This is awesome Thanks for the your tips. Waiting for more and more.
Hi jaiou,
Some features are hard to find. Glad you're enjoying the vids!
Hi Micheal
Thanks for the video. I have owned the HX300 for a couple of months and it is overwhelming as to how much you can do with this camera. Its great to have you walk us through some of the interesting features. Thanks again Ron
Hi Ron - thanks for your feedback. It's nice to hear that these vids are useful. There are a lot of cool features, but they can be really hard to find/figure out. I try to make it fun and easy to use those features.
Hi Michael. Your videos about this camera model has been very helpful. I don't quite understand the numbers printed on top of the lens.
was waiting for this video for a long time ..thanks for uploading ..
Hi Praveen,
You're welcome. I knew you were looking for this one! Hope it is helpful.
Hey !!! I've a question sony cybershot dsc hx300 or canon powershot sx50
Hey Micheal,
I would like to see a episode about photographing the stars. Im really interested into photographing the sky at night so if you would do a episode about the best possible settings, and how to include light painting when you're photographing stars, i would be delighted if you would make one! So far still enjoying the hx300 i got and your video's really helped me with buying it. Altough i really like the new hx400 manual focussing! Great video's micheal!
Greetings from The Netherlands!
Thanks, Sander. Glad to be of assistance. I have made a note of your night shots suggestion. :)
Hi Michael, are planning to create an Expert Series for the Sony HDS-HX400V
The many owners are hoping you do so soon.
RichardM
Yes Yes.
Awesome thanks a ton for this you made us wait very long this time . Hope next videos without much gap . Please help us with how to shoot background defocus without using the auto mode , also a lot of time camera says cannot defocus I am not sure how to do that .
I saw all your video, thanks for sharing this...
I have a question though.. how can i rec a video game played on a crt old tv ?
How do you change the shutter speed?
I was looking for how to do this. Thanks for the help!!!
Glad to help!
Can you make a video that shows how to use the camera in manual mode to get to the shutter speed to make water fall scenery look more smooth
You want to use an ND filter.
Probably an ND8. Then set the shutter speed to 1/60th
Hi Michael.
How to put this camera to make video on 1920x1080 60p?
Does hx350 have peaking option?
+Dorian Robu I personally think the Sony is better because: it feels better in your hand compared to the canon as the Sony has a rubber grip with cut out shapes for your fingers. The Canon has a plastic grip and is really small and over time your hands get sweaty. The picture quality on the Sony is better, the zoom is better, the Sony (I think) has better video quality, and it is much easier to use
hi michael. I´ve learned a lot thanks to your videos. I´d like to know: what´s the difference in use between "FINDER" and "LCD"? thanks :)
Victor Herrera Hi Victor - that button lets you toggle between displaying the image on the cameras screen (LCD) or just to the internal viewfinder (FINDER). The viewfinder works better in very bright situations, when the sun keeps you from being able to see what's on the screen.
thanks for answer. please, I own a camera Sony HX300. What can I do to take macro pictures for example of an insect? is there a trick?
What would you choose , the HX300v or HX400v ?
Hello friend, is to blur the background to manual focus?
