    I’ve been using the Sony-Hx300 camera for the last 3 weeks mostly on manual mode and it works great, it actually allows you to start using some professional camera settings, low light performance it’s not the best but with the correct settings you can definitely have great quality pictures. Great option to use it as a travel camera

    In this particular case, I bought for example the HX200V for travels and stuff like that. If you are an enthusiast photographer you will be very pleased with the camera, giving you options and tools to take the pictures you want. The low light shots aver great, the 10fps option is great also for speedy conditions and you have also the antiblur scene, wich I suppose is in the HX300 too. Oh, and the video quality of the camera is AMAZING. AVCHD 1080p 60p to be precise.

    This video helped me a lot about buying a super-zoom camera.... Out of the 3 super-zoom cameras they have in store today the Sony HX300 impresses me more with the amount of zoom and megapixels.

    Hi! Good review! one question,,, is it good in poor-light conditions? like sunset, or shots at night (city landscapes). thanks!!

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  9 років тому +5

      Laura B. tabari For sunsets it stills performs damn good but at night scenes it may struggle a bit but the good is that you can use multi frame noise reduction where the camera will take 2-6 photos and stitch them together to get a noise free image (best to use on stationary subjects).

    I have had my Sony DSC-HX300 for almost a year now and I absolutely love it. My only problem is that I still need to learn a lot about it and I don't know what else to do. It has been one of the best purchases I have ever made and I highly recommend it to others. If there is any way that you could maybe help me learn a little more about the camera that would be a big help. But overall I love it!!!!!

      @Blamedonnie Місяць тому +3

      Yes, it's worth it. I still use mine and it's a fantastic camera But it has huge limitations compared to what's new on the market.
      1: fixed narrow lens
      2: handheld stabilizer is trash
      3: video traps out at 1080p
      4: no external mic jack
      5: The shutter is slow and only gets slower when you do a burst of pictures.
      I've learned to work around these issues and use it accordingly.

  • @pnotuner1

    It is now an older model, but yet I bought another one yesterday from an individual. It was not used much at all.
    I gave my last one to a good friend as a thank you for some help on a project. I also have an HX400v so I didn't really miss it.
    I bought the one today because I know that my HX400v is not going to last forever and if it breaks I want a backup in hand.
    I also have a Lumix FZ80 which has higher specifications like 4k, touchscreen, 60x zoom, etc. But the Sony just works better.
    It's like Toyota vs. Nissan. Or Toyota vs. Infinity even. Toyota wins all day every day.

    It depends what you want most out of your camera. If you prefer having a longer zoom, the HX300 would be the better choice. If you value image quality and low light performance, the a58 would be the way to go.

    My h300 does not look like this..

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  7 років тому +1

      Your model is slightly different. The H300 is the entry level model to the HX300 which is the higher end version.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    The reason is because the a57 has a larger sensor than the HX300 despite having more megapixels. Megapixels mainly count if you're printing large photos but sensor size plays a large part in image quality.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    Yes you can control the focus manually. There is a switch on the side of the lens which allows you to change from manual focus to manually zooming in.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    There are two on the market which are highly rated and that is the HX300 and the SX50. I haven't used the SX50 extensively so I would probably suggest trying them both out at a camera store.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    If I was on a budget, I would probably go for the HX200 but if you really need the 50x optical zoom and a slight increase in megapixels then the HX300 is worth saving just that bit more for.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    WIFI allows you to use an internet connection to transfer images, GPS allows you to tag your photos on a map of where you've been, RAW capture is digital negative that allows you to edit your photos in post without much loss in quality. DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex. Take out the Digital part and its that SLR acronym. The HX300 is still a cyber shot but just a different type. Its a superzoom camera. You might want to check out the WX300 since its slim or even the TX30.

  • @Arkvoodel

    I just got the DSC-HX300 and it's great the video Quality is great and everything is very customizable. Love it best camera ever :)

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    The NX1000 and the HX300 are two very different cameras as the NX1000 is an interchangeable lens camera with a larger sensor. Its supposed to give you better image and video quality than the HX300. However, they're sensors aren't that good at the moment compared to other manufacturers. A lot of the footage that you've seen depends on how the person uses their camera too! The HX300 can go up to 1200mm and with the lens you suggested with the NX1000, can go to 50-200mm. So very different there.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    You can get good footage and photos with the HX300 as well. Just have to shoot in good lighting conditions and once you know its limitations, it'll be easy to work around them.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому +1

    Despite the increase in megapixels, I found the HX300 to be just as good in lowlight, if not slightly better.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    I try not to make the videos too long and didn't find the need to include it but thanks for the feedback.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    You can add a lens adaptor and perhaps a lens hood but Sony don't make an accessory like that. You can probably make find some third party accessories for the camera though.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    Unfortunately there is no accessory terminal like the NEX-5N on the HX50V and I doubt there would be one on the NEX-7N. The FDA-EV1MK is the viewfinder that can be used on the HX50 which is the same one as the RX1. As for the mic you're going to have to get a new one too.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    I suggest you try both of them in a camera store because I haven't used the SX50.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography

    Thanks John for telling me to go with this one as a first timer to photography, i feel confident with this one as it fits well in my large hands, and the hobby in general.
    How many different situations is it able to recognize at a time or scene modes is it able to use to shoot amazing pictures?

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  9 років тому

      No worries and glad I could help. Its very capable of taking some amazing photos and as far as scene recognition goes the camera is able to change its settings for pretty much every occasion.

    • @stevenjordan3839
      @stevenjordan3839 9 років тому

      its selling for $378 on retail, im in the US.
      im making this camera a 24th birthday gift, it retails on ebay for lower, but not that much lower.
      i guess i turn to 3rd parties on this, its a truly excellent product, i enjoy taking photos with it, what other cameras aside from the HX300 offer a built in help guide on board them for the type of camera it is?

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  9 років тому

      Steven Jordan I'm not sure about other brands but as far as I know all the new Sony cameras have built in help guides.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    Well the a65 will definitely give you better image quality, however, you won't get that sort of zoom that is on the HX300. I'd trade image quality over zoom any day but its up to you which you prefer more.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography
    @JohnSisonPhotography  11 років тому

    If you want good very good low light performance and image quality, I'd say go for the a57 and get a zoom lens to go with it. Perhaps the 18-250mm lens, although it will be large kit you'll have.

  • @JohnSisonPhotography

  • @JimNicholls
    @JimNicholls 11 років тому

    Good review, and your commentary was very clear and understandable. When showing video quality, I think the camera should be steady, preferably on a tripod, not moved around. Only very amateur videographers wave their cameras around, and it makes it impossible to appreciate the true capabilities of the camera.

    That's the point, the features that Sony is implementing in their cameras are awesome. For this kind of semi-professional cameras I don't have ANY doubt that Sony is winning by far, but people always seems to go for the sure thing, like Canon or Nikon. It sounds reasonable, but don't hesitate. It's not a Alpha DSLT, but it's works incredible well. The grip is AMAZING compared to both N and C, it weights nothing. And it's really EASY to use. You'll need 2 days to get used to the camera's menus.

    Hey John, thanks for the review. I bought the DSC HX300 for my wife and think she will love it.
    The last fine camera I bought was in the early '70's when it was common practice to add a UV filter to protect the lens and keep the blue in the sky from washing out. I see the lens has a thread for a filter but nowhere in the owner's manual or on Sony's website do I see what diameter the lens is.
    Do you know?
    Is a UV filter still necessary or valuable?
    Thanks,

    hi John I was wondering if you could help me with a bit of advice, I have been looking at this camera for a little bit now and I am wanting to use my degree and have a go at doing photography professionally, I have a few friends who would like portraits done of them with there children and I was wondering what the image quality is like in comparing this camera with the images you would see from a professional portrait photographer these days, it would be much appreciated.

    Best to try both of them in a store as I haven't had extensive use with the SX50.

    nice video as always - I think I am going to get the DSC-HX50V/B - was thinking of the HX300 as 50X was so attractive - but I like small - so the WX300 at 20x as an option - but now I think I found a happy medium with the HX50V/B - so really look forward to see your review as I have a feeling that you will get a hold of one before I get one - but specs look fine

    Hi, John. I hope you can give me some advice. I am looking at two super zoom cameras ranging between £250 - £350 pounds. One is the Panasonic Lumix FZ200 Priced at £300+ and the other is a Sony HX300 priced at £230. I have seen the review you did with the Sony HX300 and the zoom was absolutely amazing but it lacked features. I didn't see you reviewing the Panasonic FZ200 so I am torn between which one is better and which one has more value for money. I know very little about photography but I want a camera that can take beautiful pictures from long range that maintains it's clarity and of course video quality is important too.
    I hope you read this message.
    Thanks.

    I just bought this today. Thanks for your video.... How well does the zoom lens work in low light ? For example across a

      Depending on the lighting in the area it should hold up reasonably well.

    I love my sony DSC-HX300! I bought this camera before a trip to Africa, and got some amazing shots with it. I do have a question though - when it comes to taking pictures with a blurred background, the only seem to work well when I stand farther and zoom in, even with my aperture at 2.8, do you have any tips for that?! Thanks(:

      +Alexa LeConche Its best to have a bit of distance between the subject in focus from the background.

    Hey, John, excellent review pointing out both pros and cons of the DSC-HX300. I have a question for you, however. I can get the Nikon Powershot SX50 which also has 50x zoom for the same price. Both cameras have some tradeoffs, but it looks as if the Nikon may have better overall image quality, despite giving up 8MP on the CCD. So, which is the better camera? Both go for just under $400. I'm also looking at the Sony A3000, which has the same CCD as the SLR's for a fraction of the price. I can get bundle package with all the extra's needed, including Sony 18-55 lens and Sony 55-210 lens, although it appears both lack image stabilization. Bundle also includes tripod, flash, filters, extra battery, charger, etc., all for under $600. It appears to take much better images than either of the 50x zoom cameras. Also looking at Canon's Rebel T3i, which probably is the best out of these four, but cost for the camera which includes only 18-55 IS is about $450, and required extras even before the second expanded IS lens probably puts it in the $800 range. Another contender I'm looking into is the Nikon D3100, which comes with two VR lenses for about $650, but no other needed extras. It will probably work out cheaper than the Rebel, but may not be quite as good. Any thoughts, ideas for me? I'd like to start out with at least the essentials, whichever camera I go with, but need to spend no more than a grand, and wouldn't mind spending half of that. I realize the 50x zoom cameras will require my spending another $200-300 in extras also. Image quality is very important, (which is why I'm looking for image stabilization) but I also really like the ease and versatility of the 50x zooms. As you pointed out, GPS and Wi-Fi capabilities are desired, but not necessarily a deal breaker. Whatever help anyone can provide would be truly appreciated. Thanks again for the video.

      I know this isn't directed at me but here is my two cents.
      What camera are you upgrading from? If you are going from a point and shoot, I would recommend a bridge camera such as this one. It will help you master the basics of photography without having to pay for several different specialised lenses.
      If you are already familiar with photography, then don't waste your money on this. Buy into a system (I would recommend canon if you're new to DSLRs - I use Nikon myself) and buy quality lenses. That way, when you decide to upgrade your camera body, you will have a wonderful selection of lenses which will last you a lifetime (with good care).

      Thanks, I've already considered that option, but don't want to spend that kind of money right now. I was looking for something versatile in my price range that will take decent photos. I may add in the A3000 later for better quality photos at a price my budget can afford. I wound up going with the Canon, as tests and testimonials indicate it is the better camera for the same price, with better image quality. Ended up spending less than $350 for it new.

    I use the a99 to film most of my videos, before that I used the a77 but you can't really go wrong if you're using an NEX-5R or Slt-a57

    Is there another camera in this price point that you would recommend over the Sony DSC-HX300?

    what is the max frames per second that you can set it to in video recording because i am wondering if it would be good enough for showing videos in slow motion smoothly. another question, how much did you pay for it because at my Best Buy it is $499

    Thanx John. Very good review! I am an amateur & have a lot to learn before going DSLR. But my family and friends rave over the pictures I capture with this camera. I think it's pretty much luck, even though I do try to get the best shot that I can. 😉 I shoot mostly landscape, & the Moon & Stars are good friends of mine. Also sunrise & set. So the mega zoom is awesome. I used Best Buy, & Wal-Mart's 15 day no questions asked refund policy, & went through 4 cameras before settling on the Sony. HX300. The lense makes the Sony an easy hands down choice.

    Mr. Sison,
    I have watched some of your videos and love them. I had a question for you because it seems like you really know your cameras. I currently have a FujiFilm FinePix S with the 14 mp and 24x zoom. I do love it very much but needed to upgrade to something that would take decent night shots and something that has a fast shutter as I am starting to take several different types of photos (stills, senior pics, race car pics while they are in motion.) I recently purchased the Sony a 6000 and I am not really happy with it and really liked the Sony DSC-HX300 and was wondering if it is good for the types of pictures I listed. Thanks for the advice.

      +Brandi Johnson Why didn't you like the a6000? It actually fills everything that you need the camera for. The HX300 is good camera especially when it has that amount of zoom but in terms of quality, won't be able to match the a6000.

    • @brandijohnson3641
      @brandijohnson3641 8 років тому

      +John Sison The a6000 may have been too much for me to handle. When I bought it I had 15 days to play around with it before returning. In 15 days I was still getting blurred shots and as it was explained to me, the shutter speed would help with taking pictures of someone racing a car. Those pictures were horrible. These pictures (facebook.com/brandijphotography/) are what I was able to capture with the FujiFilm that I currently own. I want to keep the crisp clear pictures, but have a pretty decent shutter speed as well as getting great pictures in lighting that is low. Thank you for the fast response.

    Hello
    I'm starting in this world of photography. After researching and reading some books about the subject, I realized that a bridge would be best for now. Do you think this machine is good for my first choice? What about the quality / price?
