I’ve been using the Sony-Hx300 camera for the last 3 weeks mostly on manual mode and it works great, it actually allows you to start using some professional camera settings, low light performance it’s not the best but with the correct settings you can definitely have great quality pictures. Great option to use it as a travel camera
This was the very first DSC I brought, it's descent & worth the money with ton of features that I recommend it to potential New owners, thnx on the review BTW
Laura B. tabari For sunsets it stills performs damn good but at night scenes it may struggle a bit but the good is that you can use multi frame noise reduction where the camera will take 2-6 photos and stitch them together to get a noise free image (best to use on stationary subjects).
In this particular case, I bought for example the HX200V for travels and stuff like that. If you are an enthusiast photographer you will be very pleased with the camera, giving you options and tools to take the pictures you want. The low light shots aver great, the 10fps option is great also for speedy conditions and you have also the antiblur scene, wich I suppose is in the HX300 too. Oh, and the video quality of the camera is AMAZING. AVCHD 1080p 60p to be precise.
This video helped me a lot about buying a super-zoom camera.... Out of the 3 super-zoom cameras they have in store today the Sony HX300 impresses me more with the amount of zoom and megapixels.
GREAT REVEW i just buy one and i am really fine with this sony. i need more info about how to well use to manual button... i am used with an nikon now i am discovering this baby! nice revew i love! thx dude
I just bought a Powershot DSC HX300. I have 0 clue how to use it but your tutorials are awesome and I believe I will be taking some great pictures soon before going on to a more professional mirrorless. Great job...thank you!
+A Lonely Meme Its a great camera for vlogging but it can be a bit difficult to see what you're filming if you're by yourself because there is no flip screen.
It depends what you want most out of your camera. If you prefer having a longer zoom, the HX300 would be the better choice. If you value image quality and low light performance, the a58 would be the way to go.
Yes, it's worth it. I still use mine and it's a fantastic camera But it has huge limitations compared to what's new on the market. 1: fixed narrow lens 2: handheld stabilizer is trash 3: video traps out at 1080p 4: no external mic jack 5: The shutter is slow and only gets slower when you do a burst of pictures. I've learned to work around these issues and use it accordingly.
I just got this camera a couple weeks ago. It's my first real camera and I would love to see a tutorial on it. Would really help me out getting the most out of this camera. Great Review!!
I have had my Sony DSC-HX300 for almost a year now and I absolutely love it. My only problem is that I still need to learn a lot about it and I don't know what else to do. It has been one of the best purchases I have ever made and I highly recommend it to others. If there is any way that you could maybe help me learn a little more about the camera that would be a big help. But overall I love it!!!!!
It is now an older model, but yet I bought another one yesterday from an individual. It was not used much at all. I gave my last one to a good friend as a thank you for some help on a project. I also have an HX400v so I didn't really miss it. I bought the one today because I know that my HX400v is not going to last forever and if it breaks I want a backup in hand. I also have a Lumix FZ80 which has higher specifications like 4k, touchscreen, 60x zoom, etc. But the Sony just works better. It's like Toyota vs. Nissan. Or Toyota vs. Infinity even. Toyota wins all day every day.
The reason is because the a57 has a larger sensor than the HX300 despite having more megapixels. Megapixels mainly count if you're printing large photos but sensor size plays a large part in image quality.
You can get good footage and photos with the HX300 as well. Just have to shoot in good lighting conditions and once you know its limitations, it'll be easy to work around them.
There are two on the market which are highly rated and that is the HX300 and the SX50. I haven't used the SX50 extensively so I would probably suggest trying them both out at a camera store.
I ordered this camera last week and just saw your video today. It's even nicer than I imagined; I can't wait until it arrives :-). I'm hoping to get some nice shots of the birds and critters I see on my walks and bike rides.
Unfortunately there is no accessory terminal like the NEX-5N on the HX50V and I doubt there would be one on the NEX-7N. The FDA-EV1MK is the viewfinder that can be used on the HX50 which is the same one as the RX1. As for the mic you're going to have to get a new one too.
If I was on a budget, I would probably go for the HX200 but if you really need the 50x optical zoom and a slight increase in megapixels then the HX300 is worth saving just that bit more for.
WIFI allows you to use an internet connection to transfer images, GPS allows you to tag your photos on a map of where you've been, RAW capture is digital negative that allows you to edit your photos in post without much loss in quality. DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex. Take out the Digital part and its that SLR acronym. The HX300 is still a cyber shot but just a different type. Its a superzoom camera. You might want to check out the WX300 since its slim or even the TX30.
If you want good very good low light performance and image quality, I'd say go for the a57 and get a zoom lens to go with it. Perhaps the 18-250mm lens, although it will be large kit you'll have.
Hi John, how this camera performs in low light and in condition of fast moving object or camera is shaking while taking picture? will it give steady picture or blurred?
what is the max frames per second that you can set it to in video recording because i am wondering if it would be good enough for showing videos in slow motion smoothly. another question, how much did you pay for it because at my Best Buy it is $499
Hi. I was supposed to have a tutorial on this camera uploaded but there was a malfunction on my laptop and I lost the footage and I didn't have the camera in my possession anymore so I couldn't film it again. Sorry.
John Sison oh that's too bad I was looking for the tutorial and couldn't find it anywhere else.so would appreciate if you do some tutorial video about this camera. Thanks again.
Minimum focusing distance is 1cm at the widest focal length. Really good for macro shooting! Low light shooting is good but given how old this camera is, there are better options now for low light. Although, I will say this is still capable of getting good shots.
Thanks John for telling me to go with this one as a first timer to photography, i feel confident with this one as it fits well in my large hands, and the hobby in general. How many different situations is it able to recognize at a time or scene modes is it able to use to shoot amazing pictures?
No worries and glad I could help. Its very capable of taking some amazing photos and as far as scene recognition goes the camera is able to change its settings for pretty much every occasion.
its selling for $378 on retail, im in the US. im making this camera a 24th birthday gift, it retails on ebay for lower, but not that much lower. i guess i turn to 3rd parties on this, its a truly excellent product, i enjoy taking photos with it, what other cameras aside from the HX300 offer a built in help guide on board them for the type of camera it is?
The NX1000 and the HX300 are two very different cameras as the NX1000 is an interchangeable lens camera with a larger sensor. Its supposed to give you better image and video quality than the HX300. However, they're sensors aren't that good at the moment compared to other manufacturers. A lot of the footage that you've seen depends on how the person uses their camera too! The HX300 can go up to 1200mm and with the lens you suggested with the NX1000, can go to 50-200mm. So very different there.
Hello I'm starting in this world of photography. After researching and reading some books about the subject, I realized that a bridge would be best for now. Do you think this machine is good for my first choice? What about the quality / price? Thank you.
hi thank you for review, the quality video in the night is better than hx200v?, i remember when i use it on 30x optical zoom video there is some pixel blu moving araound on the video, in the night on 50x videooptical zoom is clear enough? how is compare canon 50hs? Thank you
Can you manually adjust the shutter speed? Can you manually adjust the F Stop? If so what are they're ranges? I have a Lumix LX7 and I can adjust the shutter speeds and the f stop. The shutter speeds can be as slow as 4 minutes to 1/20,000th of a second. I can adjust the f stop using the dial on the back of the camera or using the aperture ring. They're ranges are F1.2 - F8.0
You can add a lens adaptor and perhaps a lens hood but Sony don't make an accessory like that. You can probably make find some third party accessories for the camera though.
I wanna get one for my channel . When you record yourself , is it focusing you , and what you have behind not? Because I'm looking for a camera like that , and not expensive and I found this one . Does it focus good? I need focus a lot for my videos . I have a Nikon CoolpixL320 ( 26x Zoom ) and it doesn't focus that good , and the quality ( hope I wrote fine ) is worse without zoom than this camera with 50x zoom on . I hope you can respond me .
Al Vogel i have a nikon coolpix to ( L320) and it doesn't focus when I'm recording a video and not even when I'm taking photos . I decided to buy Olympus PEN E-PL6 , i hope it' worth the money .
dear nice upload...but plz tell me in hx20v and in hx200, there is option of clear zoom at full 20 x and 30 x respectively....is this function is in hx300? at full 50 x cleasr zoom ?
Is this camera only good outdoors? When does it become grainy? Can we use this at night time? How does the shot looks like when capturing a neon light? Is this camera decent enough for a beginner photographer?
The "grainyness" is all going to be factored by your ISO/vector/aperture. As long as you know your way around the settings (when used in manual mode) you can avoid grainyness in almost all scenarios. It's good for a beginner, just know that it wont take you above and beyond in the photography world. It'll take awesome photos, but the lens is built in, so if you ever get far enough to want new lenses you'll have to look elsewhere.
It depends on what you value more. If its image quality, then the Nikon D3200 would be the better choice but if you prefer having more zoom, the HX300 would be the better choice.
So with this shutter speed will it be possible to do light painting ? And out of this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 Point & Shoot and canon sx50, which do you suggest.??
Hey John, Can you do a review on how to change shutter speed, color change, iso, and such like that? Thanks I am thinking about getting this camera and would like to know how to use it.
+PHOTOSHOOTS BRENDA REYES Not the best option to be honest. I would probably go for something that is better quality with more manual controls and features.
That's the point, the features that Sony is implementing in their cameras are awesome. For this kind of semi-professional cameras I don't have ANY doubt that Sony is winning by far, but people always seems to go for the sure thing, like Canon or Nikon. It sounds reasonable, but don't hesitate. It's not a Alpha DSLT, but it's works incredible well. The grip is AMAZING compared to both N and C, it weights nothing. And it's really EASY to use. You'll need 2 days to get used to the camera's menus.
It really depends on what you prefer more, image quality or a lot of zoom. Because the sensor size is a lot smaller than a DSLR you won't get as good image quality or low light performance compared to the T3 or D3200 but since those sensors are so large you won't ever get the amount of zoom that you would get in a small sensor camera.
Hi! Which camera you recommend? This (HX300) or it's predecessor, the HX200? The price difference btw these 2 models is ~30% in advantage of the HX200. Does this new model worth it's (extra) money? (I have an old Sony - DSC-H9, and i was very pleased of it, this would be an upgrade, which one you recommend?). Thanks, Ati.
Wich one do you recommend me to buy Sony HX300 - Nikon P520 - Canon Sx50 ... I always do trekking and take shots on the mountain, also I would like to start taking picture of the sky and stars? Thanks for your help!
this is great help im getting mine tomarrow cant wait
Did you take it?
I’ve been using the Sony-Hx300 camera for the last 3 weeks mostly on manual mode and it works great, it actually allows you to start using some professional camera settings, low light performance it’s not the best but with the correct settings you can definitely have great quality pictures. hi there!
Where is the link on how to use the camera?
+Amber Baker I want to know also.
www.sony.com/electronics/cyber-shot-compact-cameras/dsc-h300
This was the very first DSC I brought, it's descent & worth the money with ton of features that I recommend it to potential New owners, thnx on the review BTW
Hi! Good review! one question,,, is it good in poor-light conditions? like sunset, or shots at night (city landscapes). thanks!!
Laura B. tabari For sunsets it stills performs damn good but at night scenes it may struggle a bit but the good is that you can use multi frame noise reduction where the camera will take 2-6 photos and stitch them together to get a noise free image (best to use on stationary subjects).

I have the camera too.😊 And im very happy with this cam👍 It's a good cam for beginners😉
MLTech can I use it for UA-cam video making
I have a question, can you use rechargeable batteries ? Im not a fan of batteries. Hope to hear back from you on what you think of the camera
What is the definition of a beginner and beginners camera?
Yes you can control the focus manually. There is a switch on the side of the lens which allows you to change from manual focus to manually zooming in.
GREAT REVEW
i just buy one and i am really fine with this sony. i need more info about how to well use to manual button... i am used with an nikon now i am discovering this baby!
nice revew i love! thx dude
I just bought a Powershot DSC HX300. I have 0 clue how to use it but your tutorials are awesome and I believe I will be taking some great pictures soon before going on to a more professional mirrorless. Great job...thank you!
How its going
would anybody recommend this camera for a vlogger
+A Lonely Meme Its a great camera for vlogging but it can be a bit difficult to see what you're filming if you're by yourself because there is no flip screen.
Place it in front of a mirror to see what your doing
+John Sison hey. 3.23 you said hes max settings or something like that. can you tell me them?
canon t6i
It depends what you want most out of your camera. If you prefer having a longer zoom, the HX300 would be the better choice. If you value image quality and low light performance, the a58 would be the way to go.
Is it worth it in 2024 xD ?
Bump
I use it as a casual camera and its great
I'll give you a hot tip. Still great but make sure you don't buy a Japanese one because there is no way to change it to english.
Yes, it's worth it. I still use mine and it's a fantastic camera But it has huge limitations compared to what's new on the market.

I film my UA-cam videos on this camera and I love it
billy Can you add a viewfinder to this camera?
Can we blur background
billybooks how good is it?
Why they said isnt good for videos?

My h300 does not look like this..
Your model is slightly different. The H300 is the entry level model to the HX300 which is the higher end version.
The reason is because the a57 has a larger sensor than the HX300 despite having more megapixels. Megapixels mainly count if you're printing large photos but sensor size plays a large part in image quality.
I just got this camera today for my birthday, and I can't wait to use it :)
You can get good footage and photos with the HX300 as well. Just have to shoot in good lighting conditions and once you know its limitations, it'll be easy to work around them.
how to pull footage from the dsc-hx300 to my computer?
I got this for Xmas and the quality is AMAZING! I took it to the Rose Parade and the pictures look gorgeous.
I'm glad you're loving your camera =.D
There are two on the market which are highly rated and that is the HX300 and the SX50. I haven't used the SX50 extensively so I would probably suggest trying them both out at a camera store.

Hope you enjoy it! It's got a good amount of zoom for those purposes!
I try not to make the videos too long and didn't find the need to include it but thanks for the feedback.
I just got the DSC-HX300 and it's great the video Quality is great and everything is very customizable. Love it best camera ever :)
I bought it and it's amazing. I'm not a professional photographer so this camera suits me just fine.
I suggest you try both of them in a camera store because I haven't used the SX50.
Despite the increase in megapixels, I found the HX300 to be just as good in lowlight, if not slightly better.
I just ordered it today so looking forward to take pics
Is this good for making music videos?
If I was on a budget, I would probably go for the HX200 but if you really need the 50x optical zoom and a slight increase in megapixels then the HX300 is worth saving just that bit more for.
I haven't used the HS50 so I can't give you a proper opinion on it but I suggest trying them both out at a store.
WIFI allows you to use an internet connection to transfer images, GPS allows you to tag your photos on a map of where you've been, RAW capture is digital negative that allows you to edit your photos in post without much loss in quality. You might want to check out the WX300 since its slim or even the TX30.
Best to try both of them in a store as I haven't had extensive use with the SX50.
Another question John which camera do u choose, which is good for photography and video, which has a super auto focus and zoom?
when you zoomed in on the church, can you manually adjust the focus when in 50x zoom?
can you fit larger capacity batteries in it?
I haven't tried the P520. Probably best to try them both out in a store.
Exposure bracketing is available in the HX300 at 0.3, 0.7 and 1.0 EV apart
If you want good very good low light performance and image quality, I'd say go for the a57 and get a zoom lens to go with it. Perhaps the 18-250mm lens, although it will be large kit you'll have.
I haven't tried the SX50 so I can't give you a proper comment on them. I suggest you try them both out at a camera store.
Lovely review.. Thanks for sharing.. However, just one question is this camera good for someone who just likes to keep it at the automatic settings..
Hi John, how this camera performs in low light and in condition of fast moving object or camera is shaking while taking picture? will it give steady picture or blurred?
what is the max frames per second that you can set it to in video recording because i am wondering if it would be good enough for showing videos in slow motion smoothly. another question, how much did you pay for it because at my Best Buy it is $499
Thank you!
How do you charge the battery? There is no charger in the box...
Connect the camera via USB to a computer or the AC adaptor.
Thanks.do you have any tutorial for this camera?
Depends on what you want more. HX300 for a long zoom and a57 for better image quality.
Thank you so much for this review!!!!
what camera are you using to make this review?
I use the a99 to film most of my videos, before that I used the a77 but you can't really go wrong if you're using an NEX-5R or Slt-a57
Hello... what about macro feature and night photo shooting?
Minimum focusing distance is 1cm at the widest focal length. Really good for macro shooting! Low light shooting is good but given how old this camera is, there are better options now for low light. Although, I will say this is still capable of getting good shots.
I'd definitely recommend this for entry or amateur photographers or even the a37 or a58.
That's wonderful, i made a very informed choice.
what is the lowest possible price i can find the HX300 for as the successor has started online sales?
Steven Jordan Not too sure to be honest. I guess it depends in the country you're in.
its selling for $378 on retail, im in the US.
im making this camera a 24th birthday gift, it retails on ebay for lower, but not that much lower.
i guess i turn to 3rd parties on this, its a truly excellent product, i enjoy taking photos with it, what other cameras aside from the HX300 offer a built in help guide on board them for the type of camera it is?
Steven Jordan I'm not sure about other brands but as far as I know all the new Sony cameras have built in help guides.
If you purchase this from the US which looks like you are, the max is 60p which is good for slow motion. In Australia its $100 more.

Hi John, Compare to HX50V which one for you is better in terms of picture quality and other features? Thanks in advance!
hi thank you for review, the quality video in the night is better than hx200v?, i remember when i use it on 30x optical zoom video there is some pixel blu moving araound on the video, in the night on 50x videooptical zoom is clear enough?
how is compare canon 50hs?
Thank you
Hi!
was the image stabilization on? it looked shaky
Would this camera be good for filming makeup videos for youtube? Also can you attach a microphone to it if you would like better sound quality?
Thanks John for the feedback..
Hey, John. I am stuck in between Nikon L 820 and Sony DX200 V... please help me for which one I should go for?
THX... Can you make video about use camera ? setting and use ?
Thank you john
which companies lens hood and lens adapter suits to Sony DSC HX 300.
Is it possible to monitor the live camera output via HDMI? (I don't mean just viewing pictures or videos that have already been recorded).
John, I have a question I am hoping you will answer. Which camera has the best quality video at 50x zoom-the Canon SX50 or the Sony HX300?
The Sony HX300 definitely has the better video quality.
hey wheres the tutorial link in description on how to work hx300?
just got one need some help john. New to cameras!
would you recommend this for entry/amateur level photographers?
That's a tough cause I haven't used all of those cameras. I suggest trying them all out at a camera store and decide which one to get.
I want a higher mega pixel camera, but I want it to have manual control, being able to adjust the F-Stop & Shutter speeds in both photography & video.
Can you manually focus in video with this camera?
Can u kindly explain how to share photos from cam to mobile
With this camera, you can't do it because there is no wifi. You may need to get an. adapter to transfer your photos from your camera to your phone.
Thankx for the reply
Could you possibly do a video in slow motion to show how smooth it is? Thanks
+LifeIsAUnicorn18 I had a CoolpixL840 and sent it back because it took forever to focus and probably deleted a thousand pics and 5 came out nice.
Al Vogel i have a nikon coolpix to ( L320) and it doesn't focus when I'm recording a video and not even when I'm taking photos . I decided to buy Olympus PEN E-PL6 , i hope it' worth the money .
I have all those cameras with me at the moment. Just need time to review them but if you have any questions in the meantime, let me know.
dear nice upload...but plz tell me in hx20v and in hx200, there is option of clear zoom at full 20 x and 30 x respectively....is this function is in hx300? at full 50 x cleasr zoom ?

It'll take awesome photos, but the lens is built in, so if you ever get far enough to want new lenses you'll have to look elsewhere.
Hey, would you suggest this over Nikon 3200 with 200mm lens for birding!!
It depends on what you value more. If its image quality, then the Nikon D3200 would be the better choice but if you prefer having more zoom, the HX300 would be the better choice.
For birding I guess I zoom place a role but still i need a fair image quality aswell! So I am confused!
Santosh G P The HX300 still delivers good image quality, you can always wait for the RX10 but that's going to be a high priced camera.
So with this shutter speed will it be possible to do light painting ?
And out of this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 Point & Shoot and canon sx50, which do you suggest.??
John, I have the HX 300 and need to know the appropriate settings for taking baseball game action shots.... players running and batting. Great review!
William Harris Try selecting the sport mode which can be found in the SCN on the mode dial.
Hey John,
Can you do a review on how to change shutter speed, color change, iso, and such like that? Thanks I am thinking about getting this camera and would like to know how to use it.
Hi John do you think is good for wedding videos?
+PHOTOSHOOTS BRENDA REYES Not the best option to be honest. I would probably go for something that is better quality with more manual controls and features.
Thank you ! :D
I ended buying this stony today. I was also thinking of getting the canon t3 or nikon 3200. Would you take back the sony for either dslr?
Hi John great review, I have a HX 300 and need to get more out of it. I can't see the link to the tutorial, can you reissue please? Thanks Andy
Hi John Sison, Nice to meet with you..
May I Know Some Confuse.
Sony DSC HX-300 Can Control Focus By Manually ?
Great video, thinking of getting this camera or the nikon p520, which one do you think i should buy?
Thank you
Would you recommend it for night shots such as a full moon? Thanks!
Hey John, I've purchased this camera. Now I was wondering if there's a way to turn off the preview setting of the pictures that you've just taken?
hey John! which camera is better? Canon sx50 or sony hx300?
The Sony HX300.
can you shoot the series of timer shots so then to make a slidshow looking like a film??
Unfortunately you can't. You can do this on the newer model, the HX400 and download the stop motion app.
thanks for the reply-)
You just need to press the viewfinder/lcd button on the top of the camera, just below the power button.
can we add additional lens means the camera has 20.1 megapixels so we can add another lens external lens

Sony HX300 - Nikon P520 - Canon Sx50 ... I always do trekking and take shots on the mountain, also I would like to start taking picture of the sky and stars?
