Often, fake (or even functional) smoke detectors or heat detectors can have CCTV cameras in them. They are made by Sperry West, and I used to sell them as a security tech distributor.
This guy is a fraud, he doesn't seem to know any of the security details that many commenters point out (plus he wants us to believe people pay him $25,000 for a day's work?).
I once saw a catalog and that showed cameras hidden in alarm clocks, smoke detectors, pens, clocks, outlets, door handles, and other items that weren't mentioned in this video. A video on how to detect those would have been useful.
Thats why he needed that 25k fee/day. Modern tech allows almost unimaginable devices 10years ago to becomes surveillance devices nowadays. I trully believed,if someone really want to hv ur pics, they can. U just do ur own standard vigilance/awareness things, hopefully u find nothing everytime..
The first rule of gun safety is to always assume any gun is loaded. The first rule of surveillance safety is to always assume every room you are in is loaded with surveillance tools. When I worked for DIA, I would travel places and bring a roll of aluminum foil, tape and spool of magnet wire with me. The foil not only conforms to different shapes you want covered up, but can act as a Faraday shield as well.
Ugh! I’ve been paranoid about this for years, and my husband just finally convinced me I was being crazy. Back to sweeping the rooms for cameras and bedbugs.
I 100% advocate to the fact there are much more creepers out there since this kind of technology is very cheap to buy and install. You're doing the smart thing
Because he's a GRIFT. Seriously you're going to believe it's$25k, because HE would charge that!? I have a Bridge to sell you too in CA. He's not worth $50 an hour. Let alone 300+. Put this McD Burger flipper back in his cage.
This makes sense, and just basic awareness of your environment. I do a quick check around a hotel room, even in a 5-star hotel. Thanks! Yes, I'd also like to see a video in which you DO find something, and show us what devices can look like. I didn't know what a GPS device stuck to a car could like until a video pointed it out. I don't think of it as being paranoid, but just being aware of your surroundings and not being too naïve.
If you think your car is being tracked by either GPS or an Apple air tag, you can contact the police department and ask them to check your car for you. It is illegal in many states to track a persons car unless the party doing it is law enforcement or a private investigator under the supervision of law enforcement.
Also what you can do is put your finger on the mirror, in the bathroom and turn out the light and look into the mirror, if it's a two-way mirror you will be able to detect it , you must take paintings off the wall and look at them and look at them carefully because the cameras now are pinhole that means they can see you through a pinhole, also look at clocks that are in the bedroom there's so many ways to sweep the room
@@user-uy8nw9zm6bThe different reflection is the teller. You should have a space in between finger and mirrored finger, should not look like you’re touching your finger. Doesnt have to be your finger either you could use a pen
Jason, why didn't you see the back of the paintings, as you did at the mirror? The cameras are so small and light today that it is possible to glue it behind a painting where the color is black, red or dark. It will difficult to notice by a naked eye and it don't show or feel any bump. Another good suggestion is to carry some bandage to cover suspicious holes.
If you've ever stayed in a room in one of the major Vegas casinos in the early 2000s, you'll notice that the light fixtures in the bathrooms are surrounded by a mirror-like material. Now I don't know if this is true or not, but my friend's uncle had security leadership role at a Vegas casino in the '90s. And according to him, or rather his brother, my friend's dad, the casinos fitted up hotel rooms with cameras. Could be total bs. Although, those weird one-way mirror-like devices I saw made me believe in at least the possibility. I've never seen bizarre, and out of place looking, light fixtures like that anywhere else.
Exactly my thoughts. A pinhole in a black coloured part of the painting. But he’s made a good point- that the people who bug an air bnb aren’t going to have state of the art stuff. Thanks for your comment
And thanks for the bandage idea. A roll of nlack masking tape (not sure what you call it over there in American- im in Australia,- its the tape ypu use around the trim of windows and walls so when you paint them it protects the edges from get the paint on them. It doesn’t have heavy sticky stuff- so that it wont pull paint off the walls when you remove it, and wont leave sticky residue behind. Even less sticky residue than bandages-This will make it perfect for what you suggested, because it wont harm the surfaces in the air bnb when you remove it. I could pack a roll of that . Its very lightweight stuff. And much cheaper than bandages. But the idea came from you so thank you- because you can’t throw a towel over every little spot, because there wont be something to hook an item of clothing/ rag/ towel onto in most spots on the wall/ paintings etc. Excellent idea
You charge $25,000. You're a joke! Scare people into thinking it costs that much because, you, a Yeet Teeber, says so? Might as well be a stranger. TRY HARDER GRIFTER
Is there any way you could have someone to put hidden cameras and listening devices in a house secretly from you and then you can do a video to see if you can find them... all of them? That would be a great video.
Jason, you completely overlooked the air vent in the bathroom. That, to me, would seem like an obvious place that should have been checked. I'd have shined a bright flashlight up in there to see if there is anything out of the ordinary in the vent system.
At 5:35 we see the bathroom exhaust vent in the ceiling. It looks like the kind that has a wire spring that holds the grill in the vent. Those are easy to pull down & put a bug behind the grill.
But the first thing I do when I go to a hotel room is I sweep it I make sure nobody is in there hiding, and some motels you must look for other ways they can get into your room like a door under the sink, a door under the sink in the kitchen, a door hidden behind the refrigerator, look in the closet for hatches, if you see a hatch and it has a handle on it tied at handle with a rope, and you make it so tight that anyone lifting it is going to make a hell of a lot of noise if they try to open it, usually what I do is I look inside the hatch I'll open it with my gun in hand with flashlight on it, but you have to check all the furniture and everything because I found hotels where there was a little hatch that are human could fit through, while you're sleeping your door on your windows are secure but a person could come through that hatch
I sleep in hotels and motels with six guns and a submachine gun....never know when some weirdo will try to creep into your room and drink or steal all the mini bar to bump up your bill!
Back in the 1960s, my family stayed at a motel off route 66. The manager of the motel crept in at night thinking we were asleep and went through my parent's suitcase. The pervert took my mom's underwear! My stepdad confronted him the next morning. We think he got in from a door by the hot water heater as my sister saw a man go out of it when we entered the room. My parents thought she was imagining it! 🙄😟😮
I noticed a few people mention things in the bathroom. So, if this was already said, please forgive me. I didn't see you check the light fixture in the shower. When looking at it, one side seems to be letting out light around the rim. The other side doesn't. Just looks a little off to me.
Make them sign a document when you check in that says, if you find any device you’re immediately reporting to police and sue them and make it public. Look them in the eyes and see what’s happening. You got the answer immediately…
This was something I was worried about because I've seen hundreds of news showing some pervert airbnb owner and even some hotels placing hidden cameras around the rooms. Thank you so much for teaching us all this!
I recall at some night club, the club owners had "mirrors" in the women's bathroom. One time a woman noticed something odd about that mirror behind her on the shitter... she figured out she was being watched via 1 way mirror usually used by L E and retail stores..
There are pinholes and strange smoke detectors and clocks in every hotel I have stayed at. I plug the pinholes with toothpaste and cover strange electronics with tape. Don't forget the worn spots in the mirrors either. As you are doing all the searching, make sure you are looking for signs of bedbugs and uncleanliness that the cleaning staff misses.
I have heard that you can turn off the lights and then flashlight through the vent. If you see a reflection or red behind the lens that would be an indicator. with 2 way mirrors it depends how you see it when you touch the mirror how you see the reflection of your fingertip or object. Ive never tried this but only on videos about this. So I am not sure if this is true or not.
One of my friends is somewhat paranoid about this stuff so she bought one of those cheap 'scanners'. I was tempted to tell her that it's false security, but quickly realized that it's better to just let her feel secure because she really has nothing important to worry about.
You'd be surprised. I go back and forth with "am I being stalked? I'm not being stalked. Oh look I found a script written about myself by the stalker on my laptop.... Ok then"
I've been watching your videos and have been amazed at the amount of information and things that someone like myself would never know. Thanks Mr Hanson and a Blessed and happy New Year.
Hello Jason I can fix everything wrong with your King Ranch, I’ve been a mechanic most of my life and I’ll give it a good home. Thanks for some more valuable information.
Found some in an airbnb few years ago: one right under the tv screen in the bedroom and one in bathroom. I used ladies daily pads to cover them: they stick easily. Of course the nice room service has been sent to take them away and I had to stick the pads again. Have also a portable door alarm and a portable blockage system for the night.
Even in a hotel, we should report the cameras to the police to save the next person from being spied on in the same hotel or location. Panty liners were a good idea to cover the cameras! Thank you!
Anytime I've stayed anywhere I always do the fingertip test on the mirrors. I don't remember where I read about it, but if you touch a mirror and there isn't a gap between your finger tip and the reflection, it's a two way mirror.
Front surface mirrors are not always two way mirrors but two way mirrors are always front surface mirrors. Front surface mirrors are definitely worth further investigation.

Rich people problems are very different. Think in terms of kidnapping, con games, frauds, extortion, murder. These are concerns of the rich. They'll pay a professional for their experience, expertise, and equipment that will service their own needs.
I have an inexpensive flashlight that has the option of a red LED for use at night (to avoid night blindness). If I sweep a room for cameras I use that light. Any lens will reflect the red light back and be easier to spot.
I bought 2 different “sniffers” on TEMU and they both actually work. They pick up RF and can pin point signals. The red light lens detector option works well too.
Also, I would check the exhaust fan cover, and behind it with a flashlight, also there are many small clocks, or small figurines with built in cameras.
This is great advice Jason I'll be staying at an Airbnb here in south east Asia so it's a good idea to just look around everywhere especially the resrooms and bedrooms no matter where you are staying in the world. I'll definitley do this once I arrive there. Thank you happy holidays

Another thing you can do is to off the lights, be in complete darkness, and look around in the darkness. Try to see if there is any blinking or steady lights coming out from anywhere...and check what is it. Also, take a radio close to certain items and see if the radio jams and makes some noise.
I used to be so paranoid bout cameras in hotel rooms. I used to check every thing including vents. I never found so I stopped. I recently stayed in Montreal and this vid made me paranoid again.
This applies to hotels, motels, etc as well. Basically, any place that's not yours. Not to be paranoid, but even when staying with family it might be good to periodically check your designated sleeping area and toilet/shower facility. Your adult sister, aunt, or in-laws are probably trustworthy, but there may be an over-sexed teenager in the picture somewhere, with a phone or tablet full of hard-core p0rn, and who has the secret hots for your wife, making periodic visits to your bedroom while you're out or downstairs eating the Christmas turkey, in order to install or check whatever cheap spy stuff he could score on Amazon the day before. Yes. This is what our society has been reduced to. Don't be paranoid. But stay safe. Cheers.

Thanks for the good advice. It makes perfect sense. Cheap stuff is cheap for a reason. Besides, even cheap detectors are too complicated for average users. I know this from personal experience. As to the fee you charge for doing a sweep, it is reasonable. The equipment alone is very expensive and your expertise is even more valuable than the equipment itself. It reminds me of a mining story from the old west. A wheel that ran the water pump for the mine was acting up. So the mining company asked a very experienced Cornish mining engineer to fix the problem. They did. The engineer made it look easy. When the mining company asked what the charge was, it was a good sum of money. The mining engineer reminded the mining company that they had the use of his experience. The mining company then gladly paid the bill.

I had been waiting for this video for a long time! This technique of finding hidden cameras applies to all hotel rooms. Thank you so much, Jason! You are a real gem.
I usually just pull the pictures off the wall and check the back quick, most of those canvas prints are incredibly thin fabric and it would be easy to spot.
If you're at an AirBNB, and you're worried about cameras, don't forget they need a power source. Locate the switchboard and turn off all switches labelled under 'Power', you can keep lights on. If you are even more paranoid, turn off the mains power and live in candlelight. Otherwise, don't live at an AirBNB ;)

Our smoke alarms blink and we have them all over the house. How would I know if they were filming or listening in? Many rental properties are required by law to have smoke alarms.

Jason, smoke detectors usually have a light in them. What do you look for in them to see if there is a hidden cam? Thanks
They sell smoke detectors already with hidden cams inside! You’d have to take it down and open it to see. It would be hard to tell from the outside
I would cover up everything, all clocks, smoke detectors, unused outlets etc..
Is there any way you could have someone to put hidden cameras and listening devices in a house secretly from you and then you can do a video to see if you can find them... all of them? That would be a great video.

I show my family this commentand say, see I am not as extreme as you think! Thanks 😅
With many Air B&Bs, all the documents are online, so one doesn't get an opportunity to look the owner/landlord in the eye.

@@holger_p Neither the law books nor the dictionaries or law enforcement define what I do as destruction of property.
you didn't check the vent in the ceiling in the bathroom. and what about 2way mirrors?
I have heard that you can turn off the lights and then flashlight through the vent. If you see a reflection or red behind the lens that would be an indicator. with 2 way mirrors it depends how you see it when you touch the mirror how you see the reflection of your fingertip or object.
Any lens will reflect the red light back and be easier to spot.
why dont you take each picture down in bath/bedroom and look for cameras behind them, rather than just feeling the edges? Thanks for the great tips.
I bought 2 different “sniffers” on TEMU and they both actually work. They pick up RF and can pin point signals. The red light lens detector option works well too.
So you can't find battery based recorders, without signals and red light ?
Also, I would check the exhaust fan cover, and behind it with a flashlight, also there are many small clocks, or small figurines with built in cameras.
