ITV News, London school rolls out allergen free meals to promote inclusivity and raise awareness

We visited a London primary school, with a heart for food allergy inclusivity. Every Wednesday, they cook and serve delicious, ‘free from top 14 allergens’ dishes for ALL the children to enjoy. For children with allergies to foods outside the top 14, efforts are made to include them if possible.
Parents of children with food allergies will understand only too well what a huge deal this is. The awareness, generated from this amazing initiative was heartwarming to see - children with food allergies said they felt included and loved that their friends were happy and enjoying their free-from lunches as well.
It's incredibly important that schools and nurseries take action to ensure they have robust allergen processes and procedures in place but it's also a huge benefit to promote inclusivity. The result is an increase in food allergy awareness amongst staff, caterers and of course the children.
Free From Wednesdays has been rolled out to 43 primary schools in the London Borough of Waltham Forest.
