Ive just shown 2 of my friends this absolutely beautiful and astonishing watch. It seems to capture all of a persons attention when viewing, so much so that i find it difficult and disappointing when i look away. I am a machinist by trade so i appreciate mechanical asthetics and function. Ive wondered for many years how these watches were made and put together. The deburring alone must be a nightmare and i would imagine a magnet would be a watchmakers worst enemy. Finally, ive gotta ask, why couldnt this watch and similar others be made to be much more waterproof? My assumption being that a watch of this caliber would be made to be virtually impenetrable given its level of technicality and attention to detail along with the companys constant pursuit of perfection coupled with its focus on being the very best. I guess in my ignorance i just dont understand the difficulties and fine nuances one encounters in making a watch waterproof however its my belief that a watch of this incredible mechanical and technical magnitude should also be "incredible" in its water resistance. I mean, with it having the "best of this" and the " best of that" ( for lack of better words) id imagine a similar level of attention would or should be given to the watchs water resistance. If anybody can give me a satisfactory explanation that cant be easily refuted it would be greatly appreciated. And by," cant be easily refuted" ill give an example such as," its difficult to do because they can only tighten it just so much" to which id say, then why not add a rubber O-ring. Basically id love an explanation that satisfies the technical question of waterproofing a watch. If anybody is privy to the solution to my question id love and welcome your reply. Thanks.

Outstanding gyrotourbillon technology and know how of Jeager-LeCoultre. Congratulations and many thanks for all your numerous contribution to the high end watch technology.
Thanks for showing us such a wonderful video. May I know how to tell time from listening to the westminster chime, in particular how does the quarter chime (use 2 gongs or 4 gongs?) and what part does the chiming sound from the 4 gongs do?
Like a masterfull piece of art , it will increase in value ! Is there any other watchmaker capable of such a complex and beautifull piece : I personnally cannot think of any !!!
Only very few can create and execute a watch at such a level... JLC is in fact the master of the complex Gyro-Tourbillon... I don’t see anyone being capable to do what JLC did over the years. This is already the Gyro 5!
I noticed that too. This mechanism must be an absolute devil to tune. Some poor JLC watchmaker is going to have to assemble it a couple hundred times in tuning the repeater.
Does the minute repeater function work porperly? Anyone who understand the sounds? Please help me, I am confused with the sounds. It seems like don't match with the time shown on the dial.
James Chen The Gyro 5 has a flat hairspring and not a cylindrical one... Everything was miniaturized there is now space for a cylindrical hairspring...
Try making a working watch made of tiny molecules. The watch needs the ability to produce new watches, repair itself, and self-destruct upon detecting certain problems.
Damn this is amazing. But I never get perpetual calendars with manual winding. I literally have to wind it everyday, otherwise the next time I wear it I will need to set up the date/month/year etc. I can't just put it on a watch winder
@@benbaby100 Just a mathematician here, making those relatively prime would guarantee coming back to the same position only after the longest possible period (i.e., the product of the two numbers). For example, if the number of teeth on the wheels were 42 and 45, then the cage would go back to its original position only after 1890 cycles which is good enough for me, I don't know :-)

Stunning Watch , Amazing Engineering,Definitely a Classic.
I’m speechless. It would have been nice to see the jumping date hand, but still an amazing video about an amazing watch.
Thanks a lot, Alexander.
We only realized afterwards that we forgot to film this particular jump. These things unfortunately happen, I am sorry! In fact would have been nice, since the date-hand literally flies over the Gyro-cage ...
Amazin how they squeezed all of that in there.. 💪
slikdarelic 1050 components! That’s a word!!!
Very comprehensive video, Alexander. Taking us behind the scenes of creating this "marvel" as you said. As always I cannot thank you enough for the amazing content.
Morteza Alavizadeh I must THANK you to be such a loyal follower and THANK you for your kind words! Next week I am @Zenith and we will produce some videos dealing with 50 years of El Primero ...
Speechless...
Thanks Alexander.
Thanks.
Thadwick wicksmith What I can offer you is to put you in contact with Matthieu. Can you send an email to alexander[ad]watchadvisor.com including a phone number? I’ll call you back (best would be by VOIP) first and then I will forward your request to Matthieu. What do you think?
Nothing else like this on planet earth. Thanks Alexander for another great video.
Wow wow wow!! It’s just amazing, my dream watch. This could command any price and it would be worth it imo.
Love your passion! Thanks for sharing! I expect some wealthy collectors that where not able to get one to say the same…
Wow! Absolutely incredible.
Yes! There is only one watch in the moment deserving the expression absolutely incredible ...
Outstanding gyrotourbillon technology and know how of Jeager-LeCoultre. Congratulations and many thanks for all your numerous contribution to the high end watch technology.
It is unparalleled watchmaking! JLC would in fact deserve much more respect for its wonderful watches...
If I had that on my wrist i would just keep staring the tourbillon all day.
I’d do the same and on top listen to the minute repeater ... 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
I saw one in real life in the exhibition held in South Korea by JLC. It was stunning, seriously.
Yes, stunning! This is ticking art ...
Mind.Blown ! over 1k parts in this watch?! Gyro weighs .04 grams?!
Thanks for sharing our passion!
0.4 g
Beautiful design and I just love the kinetic sculpture at work.
I just have to respect this engineering
What a thing of pure beauty and the highest in horology excellence!
Well said, I couldn't agree more!
This watch completely cancels out my financial future in all 4 dimensions
Welcome to the club! 😜
Thanks for showing us such a wonderful video. May I know how to tell time from listening to the westminster chime, in particular how does the quarter chime (use 2 gongs or 4 gongs?) and what part does the chiming sound from the 4 gongs do?
Please click here to learn more about the legendary Westminster Chime en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westminster_Quarters
JLC make fantastic watches! Interesting video
Magnificent piece. Great video.
Leo J Very true about the watch and thank you very much for your positive feedback.
Beautiful piece of work
So true! Art, ticking art...
Une montre incroyable ! Concrètement magnifique tout comme la vidéo
i am booking this for next life...
I love timepieces. Master craftmanship here.
I wrote that before... unparalleled watchmaking... 😉
Love this JLC watch I'll add this master piece to my bucket list. 🧡⌚👌
I can fully understand your passion! It might be sold out though...
Like a masterfull piece of art , it will increase in value ! Is there any other watchmaker capable of such a complex and beautifull piece : I personnally cannot think of any !!!
I don't know, PP?
Only very few can create and execute a watch at such a level... JLC is in fact the master of the complex Gyro-Tourbillon... I don’t see anyone being capable to do what JLC did over the years. This is already the Gyro 5!
11:20 it chimed 9 minutes despite the watch showing 12 past 10.
The watch we filmed still was a prototype... That is not an excuse, but fact...
This was still a prototype … Does this answer your questions?
@@WatchAdvisor Yes! Thank you.
@@ruihe1353 All pieces that leave the manufacturer in the Vallée de Joux were/are of course perfect…
@@WatchAdvisor Of course, will never doubt about this.
I would love this movement in an reverso case.Mainly, the slim and ultra thin reverso case tho.
We would need David Copperfield to integrate in these pretty small cases... But I have to admit not a bad idea at all 😉
Perhaps one day JLC would be able to do this
Speachless...
I was speechless too ... 😉
It would be a MIRACLE.
What a great video and thanks so much for sharing. May I know if the tourbillon is the same in Gyro 1 and Gyro 5 (besides the cage size)?
Do you mean the escapement (anchor, balance wheel and hairspring) itself? Everything got smaller so it is for sure not the same...
WatchAdvisor. Is the balance wheel of the Gyro 5 cylindrical (like Gyro 2) or flat like the Gyro 1? Thanks.
James Chen The Gyro 5 has a flat hairspring and not a cylindrical one... Everything was miniaturized there is now space for a cylindrical hairspring...
WatchAdvisor Many thanks for the information.
James Chen You are welcome!
This is God level creation. Unbelievable!
Somehow - yes! It is some of the very best, pure Swiss watchmaking ...
Maybe god level with a small "G"
Try making a working watch made of tiny molecules. The watch needs the ability to produce new watches, repair itself, and self-destruct upon detecting certain problems.
A piece that I always admired, a true time piece.
That's the kind of watchmaking we all want to see more of...
Worth every penny 👍🇬🇧
Peter Stone I couldn’t agree more since this unparalleled watchmaking...
Beautiful. Everything I have imagined in a dream watch and more.
Comes close to perfection - true!
It is not just complicated, it is beautiful. Would be happy just to see it and hold it in my hands and play with the chimes. My grail watch.
philip yang In fact this Gyro 5 is BIG cinema for the wrist!
I LOVE❤THIS WATCH
I love ❤️ your comment!
Wow, this is simply astonishing engineering 😮😀
Astonishing, unparalleled engineering in fact !!!
I wanted to sell my house, take some loans but my wife said no. #lifesucks
Hahahahaha 😂🤣😂🤣😂👻
Artur Garncarz Why be sensible when you can be preposterous and ridiculous! Get that watch baby
Wow, Alexander - incredible. Thank you so much 👍
John Mcdonagh You are very welcome. Thanks for your positive feedback!
The MOST BEAUTIFUL WATCH in the world. No doubt.
Peter Jarunek Wow! What a compliment! I think the guys from JLC will be happy to read this...
Damn this is amazing. But I never get perpetual calendars with manual winding. I literally have to wind it everyday, otherwise the next time I wear it I will need to set up the date/month/year etc. I can't just put it on a watch winder
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 184 offers 52 hours of power reserve... Enough if you wear the watch on a daily base to keep it running...
@@WatchAdvisor Yeah but I have to wind it, no? It's manual winding. I can't just wear it and charge it that way like automatic watches
raikahoken yes, you will have to wind it every approximately 50 hours...
@@WatchAdvisor I love winding my old JLC Cal 470 every day, it is very therapeutic. I wouldn't want an automatic at all.
2:20 So this seems to imply the numbers of teeth on the two tourbillon axes must be relatively prime? What are those numbers, just curious?
JanPBtest Look at the brains on you! Is that a technique used in watch making?
@@benbaby100 Just a mathematician here, making those relatively prime would guarantee coming back to the same position only after the longest possible period (i.e., the product of the two numbers). For example, if the number of teeth on the wheels were 42 and 45, then the cage would go back to its original position only after 1890 cycles which is good enough for me, I don't know :-)
JanPBtest Indeed that is true. The thought didn't cross my mind when he said that though. Good catch
Spectacular!
Actually the most stunning timepiece one can buy... everything is a superlative, including the price ...
My dream watch! Absolutely amazing.... I was waiting for him to accidentally drop it. 😱
Waiting for mine to be delivered. 😉
WatchAdvisor I hope someday we will both be able to have enough cash to buy them.
I bought mine in 2013... I'm still paying it. The mortgage can wait.
He he! Very cool answer... Love it! 😉
960,000 euro to me this has to be one of the greatest timepieces ever! its magnificent
!
This is unparalleled watchmaking ranking among the most spectacular wristwatches ever manufactured...
@@WatchAdvisor ranking among? there cant be anything thats even close. i know there are some splendid timepieces but ive never seen anything like this. there cant be more than a handful of people in the world who have the skills and the brains to come up with something this incredible! thanks for you wonderful vids!
WatchAdvisor indeed!
Just let the guy talk!
-You are in charge of?
-Product marketing and...
-PRODUCT! PRODUCT!
This watch is ridiculously amazing.
😉
