I can bet you that the only reason why people are up in arms about Palworld is simply because of how Pokémon-esque the artstyle is.
I think (not believe) that if Nintendo tried to survive on brand recognition alone, they would not last ten years.
Sorry to disagree with you, but your point on Zelda is weak, as you undo your own point really; the reason WHY people will tolerate a DLC for Zelda and be charged full price is due to the sheer quality of the game design, not the brand.
Nintendo is a gold standard for game design and they rightly guard their products from being on other platforms, because it would diminish that standard.
Nintendo do not make games consoles so other companies can make games and sell them (unlike Microshaft or Fhony), Nintendo make games consoles so THEY can sell you THEIR games!
And, like Apple, they control the hardware and the software and the intellectual property.

Side note: During an interview Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of Pokémon, said that the idea for the game came from his childhood where he would go on adventures to the Forrest and rivers to collect bugs. He had photos from his childhood showing off his insect collection. His parents would warn him not to go too far in the woods because bad people would try to kidnap him, but he was more worried about them taking his critters lol. That became team Rocket.

Ironically enough that can be a game mechanic 🤣🤣🤣 the happier your Pals are, the harder they work and the better gear they can make. Also cuts crafting time down. But the more miserable they are, the longer it takes to craft and it limits your crafting options.

Yes, there canonically guns in the Pokemon world, humans do eat pokemon (As evidenced by the Slowpoke tail quest in 2nd Gen) and I forget which, but one of the "teams" in the games want pokemon conquest basically...

As someone who was there when gen 1 was brought to the states we've been hoping the franchise would grow up alongside us but instead it got dumbed down even further for mass market appeal and because game freak stopped trying and relied on their fanboys and girls to defend low quality entries that only now exist to push the merchandise.
Pokemon is not the paradise you say it is,are you kidding me? You played almost every mainline game to completion and never read any of the dexes? Like Hypno taking kids away to feed its hunger for sleep,spoink needing to constantly bounce or it just dies,constantly mentioning ghost pokemon were once people,phantump being a child ghost. The biggest difference is that Pokemon doesn’t focus in on dark aspects of its world, while Palworld is more upfront about it. They both are fucked up and dark settings but one acknowledges it and other hides it in plain sight.
It goes a lot deeper than that black and white was about ending the slavery of pokémon.
Ruby and Sapphire was about returning the world to the pokémon. Team aqua wanted to flood the world and team magma wanted to create more land mass.
When you're walking through construction zones you're basically walking through palworld. I mean those pokémon are probably not getting a minimum wage and probably didn't agree to it and you see all sorts of situations where people in the game collect pokémon to be their house elf.
I think they forgot that in Pokemon they promote sending out literal children alone into the wilderness to fight nine foot tall death monsters. No one complains Pokemon encourages child neglect and endangerment.

So I always thought kids go out there and can be pokemon trainers because it’s for them to become much stronger and have a chance to adapt in this world they live in. But I feel like they also could be allowed to be in relationships with pokemon and even marry them if they wanted to,because of the higher death rate. But it might depend on the region we are talking about here.

It felt more like Conan Exiles with Pokemon to me cause in that game you catch humans and animals, and then put them to work in your base, along with npc raids on your base which Ark doesn't have without mods.

Only reason I got Violet (as I skipped Sword/Shield) was because I was told it was better and had hope after Pokemon Legends Arceus was actually good and a nice change-up (It wasn't better and I haven't really touched it for months now).

Regarding the slavery argument, I think that Palworld does it better since it is more upfront about what happens to the creatures (and allowing them to be used for domestic purposes as well) rather than the way that Pokemon tends to sugarcoat friendship and sportsmanship into capturing its creatures and making them battle (almost exclusively). I just hope that Palworld introduces mechanics that incentivizes players to be kind while still allowing cruelty but making cruelty consensual.

I think the point is that they allow you to do cruel acts if you lack the empathy, but that allows you to make a true moral decision that seperates different types of players-- I view my relationship with the pals I capture as a guardian and provider. I don't overwork them, look for opportunities to help them complete tasks if I'm able. As soon as I saw there was even an option to make a facility to overwork them I destroyed it and decided to never interact with it. I provide them shelter and food in exchange for them producing the materials I need to create that fortification and the gear I use to defend them. For the most part, they just make what they need to sustain themselves. The point though, is there's an argument to be made about virtue only being real if you have every ability to do evil, with no consequence, and choosing not to (even to your detriment) simply because you view the act as wrong. And presenting that kind of choice shows they had a lot of guts.
You reminded me about some journalist talking about Rogue Trader and how they went 'I did all the good options, why did I get debuffs? I should be rewarded for doing the good thing!' If one has to be rewarded for being good and ethical, can they truly claim to be either?

I suppose for me it's the idea it represents, as I have a tendency to strongly anthropomorphize things. However, yes. I do think someone who does good for the sake of good does so knowing they could do bad, having every power to, but choosing not to, as opposed to merely avoiding it for fear or shame, or lack of power.

pal world is ark: survival evolved with pokemon instead of dinosaurs. im like 90% sure its running on the same engine, and im surprised how no one has made the connection yet. at least i havent seen much of anyone call it out as that. this isnt a critisizm, its just an observation. it actually looks like a fun game.
Dragon Quest allowed us to catch monsters before pokemon as well, I dont remember which DQ part was the first with that.

Legends Arceus pretty much proved why this would be a thing. Pokemon are literally strong enough to rip you to shreds. I thought Arceus was the step in them making the series more mature and darker toned. Buuut then they shit all over my expectations with an unforgivable mess.

I'll be honest, I'm a fan of Connan Exiles (similar to ARK) and Palworld looks like the censored version of Connan Exiles with furries. Honestly the similarities with Pokemos are great, especially the method of catching Pals but still, this game has a lot of potential that nintendo has not dared to exploit with Pokemon and if this game succeeds it could lead to a wake up call to Nintendo.

If Nintendo ever wanted to start that fight, they would've tried it and failed years ago. Because plot twist: Anything in the creature capture genre is compared to Pokemon, despite it being OLDER than Pokemon. Partially because of Pokemon's notoriety and party because there is a very vocal part of the pokemon community I would describe as "religious". The kind that will buy anything Gamefreak puts out with the brand on it and go after anything that even remotely comes within spitting distance of talking down about it. I say screw em.

Wow, I really couldn't have said it better myself. I stopped playing in the 3rd zone because EVERYTHING in that game was just SO SLOW!
As huge pokemon fan, i can fully admit that Gamefreak needs to get their shit together. while Scarlet/Violet have been the best competitively, the performance issues are inexscusable. Legends Arceus proves that GF can successfully shake up the formula when they want to. I hope this competition spurs Nintendo/GF to do better. We'll see
Scarlet and Violet objectively had an amazing story but it does really suck that the performance just destroys the game for most people. I think they should bring over some aspects from legends arceus like the catching outside of a battle, Pokémon attacking you and not just your Pokémon, the frostbite status condition replacing freeze etc.
They really need more time to develop the games but I doubt that will happen any time soon.

Palworld is just the realistic, edgy version of Pokemon. A lot of Pokemon players has joked for years or even decades about animal cruelty and slavery. This game is the ultimate incarnation of this joke.
Palworld is no more of a 'slave simulator' than Pokemon is.
In Pokemon you beat up the local wildlife either using other Pokemon or literal rocks, force them into captivity in Pokeballs (or worse left in the PC Storage indefinitely) and only let them out so they can attack other wildlife.
You can market it in a quirky cartoon all you like, the reality is that the world of Pokemon is little more than a state sponsored animal fighting ring.

Thankfully a lot of Pokemon fans, like me, don't have a problem with Palworld and they certainly don't deserve death threats. No one does, especially over something like this. In fact, I'd love a crossover sometime between the two.

I don't think they will, the Pokemon company is super protective of their own assets but they are competent enough to understand they don't own the concept and probly see all the complaints against Palworld as super cringe
Because Digimon did not quite so fragrently rip of their designs and the talk around did not have everyone going ‘yeah, it’s an obvious rip off’ even from the people that like the game.

For one, Digimon is older than Pokémon. Any attempt to sue Digimon would immediately backfire when they realize it would result in Nintendo and GameFreak being counter sued.

The game is full of those 'jabs'. There is an in-game equivalent of PETA for example, and the funny thing about it is if you face them for the first time, they also have one of the Pals locked in the case, like the syndicated in the game do.

If common design elements were enough to infringe on copyright, Gamefreak and Nintendo would owe Studio Ghibli most of their earnings from the Pokemon series.
Dragon Quest has bigger say in terms of lifted ideas. When using low bar of we used a real animal for 90% of design so now you can't use it now (like a cobra spelled backwards) pokemon stole their designs from older game by these fan boys copium logic.

I'm a huge Pokemon fan and when I found out that this game was being made I wasn't mad but rather excited because hopefully Pokemon can take notes from this and improve their games because lately their games have not been that good they're usually buggy or unfinished.
And if this series takes off then pokemon will actually have some competition and hopefully it will force them to improve and make better games.

Yeah Pokemon definitely isn't the only game in it's genre of did it invent baseballs net grenades people have used it to catch bass and rabbits way before pokemon, pokemon is just aimed to children and palworld is aimed to adults it's the difference between Star wars and 40k I like both of them their similar and different, quite frankly I believe the Pokemon and pocket monster inverters would agree especially with how more offensive pokemon and pocket monster is in Japan, besides possible assets being stolen which has to be proven until then their Innocent definitely a legal original game not even parody just straight up original in a similar hunting sub genre

Exactly, I don't see Palworld as anything as friendly competition and not a "Pokemon Killer" cause honestly Gamefreak needs some motivation and more time to polish their games, and these yearly releases aren't doing them any favors, which is why I hope we don't get a gen 10 announcement and get a new Mystery Dungeon game instead. The only knock I have on Palworld is some of the creature designs are very iffy.

I’ve heard so many UA-camrs call Palworld ‘Pokémon with guns’ but after playing it, I would more accurately describe it as ‘Pokémon meets Ark: survival evolved’
The former description doesn’t fit because the game doesn’t just slap a gun in your hand; I’ve been playing since steam launch, and only just reached gunpowder weapons.

As a long time Pokémon fan I can safely say we have been asking for an open world Pokémon game since 1998. We've also been asking for Nintendo to stop stealing from Dragon Quest to design it's Pokémon when they can't find enough random real world objects like keys and trashcans to design Pokémon.
Honestly, if Pokemon was going to have an open world game, then it should be done like a JRPG, as well as go with the lore of the anime and the manga in different divergent path choices in the game, plus also have new content for Scarlet and Violet Era Pokemon, Gym Leaders, etc. as well, so that way, the entire franchise can die in a way that will end on a good note, and then Nintendo can finally do something new, like, say, make a good racing video game that is based in the real world, like a legitimate rival to the best realistic racing video games ever.
I told all my friends about Palworld. Only one of them was upset. He is a long time Pokémon fan. No surprise there.

There are so many episodes in the anime revealing that pokemon are integrated into society such as a bunch of Pikachus running on a wheel to charge up and give the city power. Or how machamp is commonly used as a "forklift" with loading and unloading of warehouses, storage ships, moving vans etc.
If you want to go full tilt then your "goal" in the pokemon series is to complete a pokedex right? You want to tell me with over 300 entries you are " friends" with all of them? Likely story
Palworld NEEDS to succeed. The unrivaled Pokémon franchise needs competition, to either get better or get left behind.
Palworld would have not been so much as a blip for people if Gamefreak put actual effort into Pokemon again. The first few games where amazing, especially considering the technology, and they had well paced and driven storys, including underlying stories you would only notice if you paid attention, for example, one of your rival's pokemon dying in Red/Blue/yellow for GameBoy color. You can only surmise this by paying attention to what your rival says, the gravestone, and looking at your rival's team after the event.
If Gamefreak *TRIED* giving us games that justified their trillion dollar company status, Palworld wouldn't even be talked about. Also, not every game has to have a world ending event you need to race for.

Palworld took advantage of the unimaginative "monster-capture" game industry and rocked it with a pretty well executed game!
It's not some stellar stuff, but the reality is there's nothing new that we can make. All we have left is taking the ideas that are, making a new combination, and then focusing on the execution, in this case, the gameplay loop.
This is what Pokemon needed. Competition! They need to get off their lazy butts and innovate or be left in the past they cling onto so much.
Palworld is in early access and already sold 5 million copies over the weekend. This game is going to be huge! The "journalists" are only helping.

I mean, can we remember that when Monster Hunter World came out, a journalist also called it "Animal Cruelty"? Also saying how they"Felt bad about killing monsters". I would not be surprised if that is the same journalist. Also, there can't be a lawsuit, there are already games on steam that also use Pokemon mechanics. Let's look on most popular Digimon, which was created by Bandai and NOT Nintendo. Then there is Temtem. You can't copyright mechanics, if that was the case, no one would be able to create any genre of games and it would be copyrighted by just one person or company. So yeh, all of this is backlash is just moronic. Also on side note, PC Gamer, that company sucks in playing games in general.
The funny thing is, the person who called Monster Hunter World 'Animal Cruelty' would be the first person to spray and pray a big fuck off dragon that came zooming at them. They also must have missed that capture, not kill in MHW gives you more rewards. You only really have to kill Great Jagras and I think one other thing before you get access to traps, and those are just gameplay tutorials. (1000+ hours in MHW here, btw). But that's the problem with a lot of game tourists that come into a series late in a more modern release; a lot of the old lore is lost on them. In MHW, I remember it being stated somewhere that cut tails grow back eventually, and the hunter association mostly wants monsters captured unless they're being a serious threat, like Elder Dragons which are basically living natural disasters.
Also the one fact lost on these people; the monsters aren't real! Would I feel a little twinge of guilt hurting the pals in pal world? Sure, because I'm an animal lover and they're designed so cute that I might hesitate a second, but at the end of the day I know it's just a game.These aren't animals, or feeling creatures. They're data. I can still feel empathy while existing in reality. Games like this promote animal cruelty the same way violent games promote actual violence. ie, they don't. Real animal cruelty existed way before video games, and is just a symptom of bad people existing.

My problem with pokemon is it has strayed away from what made the game good. A world of exploration. I love dungeon diving for the legendary birds and mewtwo. Tracking down the fleeing dog trio, exploring and caves and diving under the sea. As annoying as random battles were solving the puzzles and getting cool rewards was the best part of the game.
Ive said this before but pokemon should have never gone 3D. 3D should have been reserved for battle simulators.

In Pokemon you can only use pokemon for violence, Palworld you have a choice and you can appreciate your pal by hand feeding and petting for doing a good job. The first monster catcher was Tamagachi which later evolved into Digimon.

Pokemon fan base in the TCG community was so toxic in the 90’s people were literally street fighting for Foil card of Pikachu. People were stealing cards from kids and running away this stuff was happening in the days of Pokémon fandom.
Digimon was the other one but you’re raising the monster to fight other monsters.
I think Digimon was more of a adventure type genre that involved monsters getting more powerful to fight bigger and more evil monsters and the power of friendship always wins. Classic 90's type stuff. The game where you raised and fought other monsters was Monster Rancher.
It’s pretty wild that a multi platform game that launched as an early access title from a smaller developer is somehow more polished and optimized than one that released more than a year ago from a multi million dollar company and was built from the ground up for one console 😂

As someone who has played Pokémon for over 25 years and enjoys it more than my children, I see no problem with Palworld and am intrigued by it.
The fact Nintendo/Game Freak kept the same format with limited cosmetic changes through the technological leap from the Gameboy to the Switch and smartphones has been underwhelming. I still replay the mainline Red/Blue to Sun/Moon, and fan mods of those generations, but everything since has somehow been downhill.
Are we going to ignore that the last DLC of pokemon allows you to enter pokemon's minds and make them do stuff against their will too?
