When you film these videos, you should do a little bit at the end after a full day going “ back to normal” talking about how much your brain has changed in practice over the past day without restrictions. Like after you used your iPhone again, wait a few days and record a little bit of how much you have or haven’t sunk back into those habits with your phone. Sometimes we set intentions for things and kinda fall out of them once things go back to normal, and it would be cool to see how that effects you and happens to you. Though I do understand it makes the video longer and it’s more to edit. Just a thought. I did really love this video and now i want to ditch my phone lol
yesss! That would be really great to see.
I Agree ☝️
Awesome suggestion
That would be such a great Addition to the Videos👍😊
I bought one of these phones for a family member in hospice. Once he passed away, we donated the phone to a women's shelter. Since it prepaid, it's really useful for them ✌️
I’d love to see you do this with the actual old school items like a real alarm clock, a calculator, a camera with film, a map or Mapquest 😂
Yesss! I feel like the iPad and Alexa was kind of a cop out 😂
And a radio baby monitor. Maybe pick different years to emulate and research and prepare how the day would be approached
I remember Loepsie did a video like that a while ago and I must say that I was expecting the same. I don't remember if she disabled all the apps on her smartphone or if she actually found an old mobile phone for that week, but I was expecting Sierra would also go that deep and then I was disappointed by her only not using her smartphone and still using all the other smart technology in her house.
i had that idea too! like ZERO technology, no tv too!
@@TheElicest idk about that one baby monitors nowadays are just a lot safer
I'm so surprised you didn't get a book to read at night! That would have been a great substitute for that time (at least for me) and the sound thing when you sleep is REAL! I keep a fan on all night for me tom are up for it. This was such a fun video!
I really like reading before bed too
came to the comments to say this. reading would be my instant replacement for entertainment if I went an entire week without my phone. so surprised Sierra didnt mention picking up a book & reading a single time during this entire video!
Yess even in winter I have fans on too
I don’t think she’s a reader…she consumes digital content
YES when I ran out of data abroad I went through books soooo much quicker than when I’m at home because it was the ONLY thing I could do at night
At the start of 2021, I did a similar thing; I did a social media detox for four months. And the thing they don't tell you is how bored you might get at the start. I feel like I had to relearn how to have hobbies, but in those four months, I learn some embroidery basics, planted (and named) all my indoor plants, hiked almost every day, and went on to have my best reading year since I was a teenager. I did not realize how much time I would get back not being on Facebook and Twitter all the time. I'm back on most social media, but I feel like the long break made me rethink a lot of my attitude about it. Another comment mentioned deleting the apps and going through the browser which is part of my method now. And I never rejoined Twitter, goodbye to that cesspit that I once loved.
Honestly I agree with yoy Twitter is a cesspit. It's the worst of all social media IMO. I read something once about how they tried to test what performed better and was more likely to go viral: conservative or liberal content. But they ended up finding that it didn't really matter and that the number one factor that predicted vitality was actual negativity. The more negative the content, the higher the chance to go viral. And you can 100% see that reflected in the type of content on there and a lot of the people who heavily use it. I've seen people managing to complain and be genuinely angry about the craziest and most obscure things on there. If anyone needs to touch grass it's hardcore Twitter users.
I definitely know what you mean about feeling the need to be on your phone while watching tv. What helps me is having small crafty hobbies. Instead of scrolling online and ending up missing half the movie, I work on a cross stitch pattern and I'm able to actually follow along with what I'm watching while also keeping my hands busy!
Same! I find adult colouring books to be super helpful!
Yes I definitely agree that she needs a little hobbie to do instead of scrolling!
Thank you for the reminder of this!! I used to do cross stitch and I've been grumpy about how I reach for my phone when watching TV with my husband at night and how it eats up my brain.
As other people have pointed out, I'm so surprised there were no books! I've really really cut down my screen time to about an hour a day, and I LOVE spending my time reading. I don't miss the scrolling anymore
I’m on my phone so much I saw this notification and clicked on it immediately 😂
Saaaame 😂
Ironic
I cant believe how you cant even close your blinds, turn on the tv, or get into your Tesla without your phone! I think I'll stick to non smart devices if I ever manage to buy a home... xD
I had the same thought! That's absolutely ridiculous
I was looking for this comment 😆 theres no way I'd ever have my whole life on my phone, especially with the crappy batteries that they have, my phone is constantly dying or low.
it’s pretty convenient. society is advancing lol u can join us or stay behind and struggle to do simple things like buy groceries
@@thedevillovesyou yeah it's not a struggle to walk over and close your blinds. I love stuff like online ordering for grocery pickup but there are a lot of devices like the ones for smart homes that don't really seem worth it.
Hey Sierra! I totally feel you on the Phone While Watching a Movie thing. This became apparent to me in my English class last year. We watched a movie in class the day before Spring Break as a little rest from school work. The only rule was that we couldn’t use our phone because the movie related to a book we were reading. I had the same like missing feeling. Then I remembered I had a little bendy toy thing in my backpack. So I fidgeted with that while I watched the movie. And it was so refreshing! I could really focus, but I still had something to do with my hands. Anyway highly recommend switching for a little toy while watching a movie.
Smart home devices and vehicles are great, but it’s wild how much they make us rely on technology! Like not being able to close the blinds without a phone wasn’t even conceivable until like 10 years ago
This is why we don't have anything in our house that is strictly "smart" controlled. It honestly freaks me out. We don't even have an Alexa..
and this is very much a US issue, Europe and Latin America (among other regions) do not have these kind of smart devices yet, or at least not so many of them
@@anto4380delaguaridaa Luck you! I wish things weren't so dependent on technology. It turns into a huge pain, and is so expensive!
While i, like everyone, struggle with my phone, I have found an app called Forest where you set a timer and you will “plant” a tree during that time by not looking at your phone and if you do it “kills” the tree. It has been helpful using it in situations where I’m studying or want to focus and know I won’t need to look at my phone for an hour or so. It’s also really cool seeing the virtual forest you planted by not using your phone lol
I have Forest on my iPhone ☺️
YES! I used it when I was working from home, it really made me realize how much I was using on my phone even when I didn’t need it and I already had everything on my computer RIGHt IN FRONT OF ME!
want to be clear about that app though for people who may misunderstand: you arent doing anything for the environment, you arent planting real trees, it's just in the app.
@@stellarae8257 that’s actually not true! You can plant real trees if you get enough points. However, generally it is a virtual forest
Honestly this is why I don't like smart home appliances, cars, etc that don't have a regular remote control/key. I don't like having to rely on my phone for something simple like closing the curtains, because if I lose my phone I can't do anything.
This video was a good reminder for me to really think about whether the smart gadgets I use will still be convenient in times of emergency.
Me too. I don’t have any smart appliances or Alexa or anything. Still rocking my IPhone SE from 2020.
Agreed, honestly there's something satisfying about doing things yourself as well. My cars automatic doors drive me nuts, I miss closing them myself, so I can't imagine not pulling on some blinds. I still don't understand why fridges need touch screens and internet 😂
I use the do not disturb feature ALL the time. I would definitely recommend trying that! I also put time limits on my social media. I give an hour per app - but then end up extending it 15 min but at least your mindful of how much longer you’re scrolling for
This was so good! At our house, we implemented no phones Sunday. It’s been so interesting seeing how much I use my phone when I don’t have it. But it’s allowed us to be so much more present! We play board games and cards and try to get out more.
Stephen the smart house is out of control lmao
Some things I do to limit my screen distractions is have all my social media notifications off (obviously this may not be an option if you are a content creator). I also use my Apple Watch to “screen” my notifications. That way I get a quick snip-it of the notification and I can decide whether it needs my attention or not.
honestly I think part of the problem of being on our phones while watching tv, is that apps like tiktok, yt shorts, and instagram have trained us to have shorter attention spans. So when we are watching something longer we get super antsy and want something on our phones. Im also trying to break the habit too 😭
These are the exact thoughts I've been having lately. I've been reading 'How to Break Up With Your Phone', and it's crazy to see how much harm there is with things like our focus level, anxiety, and constant worry with having our phones nowadays! Turning off the majority of push notificaitons, and App timers have definitely been helpful for me to find a better balance! And also figuring out those luls that I end up using my phone for (moments of quiet in mom life, before bed, during naps, etc.), and finding other things I can do instead. We think our phones are helping us relax, but I feel even after being on it for 1hr, I'm so anxious and drained. Love this video!
Thanks for sharing! I'm going to get this book from my library tomorrow!
Video Idea: Dressing "Up" for a week- meaning no t shirts or bike shorts! lol The anti-lockdown style challenge.
Had to stop you...YESSSSSS! Cannot tell you the last time I actually watched a movie without scrolling my phone. It is become the norm for all of us. And I can't even imagine but I can feel the anxiety of not having my phone. It is absolutely wild how connected we are when we think we're not! So glad your showing us all of our reflections.
This is 1000% the best one of these videos I’ve seen, you explained all the convinces and impulses of using a phone that I really relate to. And this did open my eyes to try to focus on being more intentional especially in the morning an social situations :)
My Aubelo only uses a flip phone 😂😂and he loves it so much !!
It would be fun to watch you do a week in different decades with only the tech they had then
I've been seeing hints of this on the vlog channel I'm excited to see the final project.
You should know that even though you whispered "Alexa", you followed it up with "play Taylor Swift" so my Alexa whispered back and started playing Taylor. I'm not mad about it hahahhahaha
Love this content!! First video in a while on UA-cam I didn’t skip through!
I always have this struggle, trying to find balance between online and offline and yet we cant seem to survive without them. Such a refreshing video to see!!
My community/hobby group is extremely low-tech and it’s slightly taboo to use a cell phone etc during those events . I really enjoy the time I get to be present with the people I love and unplug. I’m also obsessed with my phone and don’t think I could actually give it up even for a week or a day.
Just curious about what your community/hobby is??
It's so hard to disconnect when everything is built for technology, so I feel you, esp as someone who works in media. Love all of your realizations and the photos!
Here are some of the things that have worked for me: an old-school alarm clock (never did trust my phone alarm), always having a book around - for morning and evening reading and a sound machine will help fill the silence at night! I love the digital balance settings on phones too - those help to set good boundaries. At the end of the day, it's about creating new habit. Good luck, we believe in you!
Yes!! Love this so much. We have been doing one weekend day a month where we go "screen free" (no phones, tv or computer) from dawn to dusk. It was so so hard at first but now I look forward to it. The mental break is so rejuvenating and the things we do and the conversations we have instead are always amazing.
It always always feels like there is going to be so much to catch up on or you've missed something critical... but it takes like 5 minutes and I've missed nothing important. 🤯
Since my early childhood I have been always sleeping with an audiobook our something and can relate. Nowadays I am listening to you longer videos for falling asleep because you are really calming and it helps me :) thank you
This has been so interesting to see how much the world has changed! I love the Focus modes on the iPhone as I’m finding that I can work without distractions and my notifications can wait for me. I love that I can have certain apps or people contact me while in each focus modes. It also auto sends a message to other people while I’m in a focus mode. I have one for university, one for work and do not disturb at night while I sleep. Love to see more content like this!
This was such a good video and so relatable to probably like 90% of the world! I definitely noticed a while back my phone usage was such a huge habit I formed and I still definitely struggle to not take it out every 5 seconds when I'm out doing things to try and "capture the moment" rather than just live in it. Gunna make that a new goal! Also my biggest suggestion for avoiding the nighttime endless scrolling is to read! I started putting my phone in my bedroom to charge before bed and then just reading on the couch for the hour or 2 before I go to sleep and feeling way better about it
Love the video!!! Being present in the moment and disconnected from electronics is quite relaxing!!! I put my phone on Do Not Disturb if I need to focus on an activity, sometimes just placing the phone upside to not see the notifications, and silencing notifications or turning off the Push Notifications...
When you whispered "Alexa" mine started to shuffle songs by Taylor Swift. I can't even get it to listen to me in my normal voice.
I love this! I have been excited about this video since you announced you were filming it :) I think Stephen is right about setting timers, but I also was thinking as you were talking about bored you were in the evenings, that would be a good time to pick up a new hobby. Something you can check out a book at the library to teach yourself or watch a UA-cam tutorial or skillshare class on your laptop. Something I started doing too was using the focus modes, so it restricts what apps are accessible depending on what focus mode my phone is in. I hope you find a good balance and can give us an update in the future!
A few months ago, I realized I spent too much time on my phone. I stopped Facebook and youtube for a while, more audible or be present with ny son/ family. In the end I started up youtube again but minimal Facebook because too much negativity. I can control what I watch on youtube like positive people like YOU!
I never got insta or tiktok. Enjoyed this video.
Stephen closing the blinds remotely is a whole mood 😂😂 Sierra you live in the future. The only thing I related to was the Starbucks app lol! And the phone notes app I’m obsessed with that lol. And the complete lack of attention span to specific tasks because of getting phone distraction 😬 I would’ve felt the same way after the movie!! Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport was one of my favorite reads last year and clearly nothing stuck
Omg, this is like that Parks & Rec episode where Tom Haverford isn’t allowed to use his phone! 😂
This experiment would have been more effective/meaningful had you unplugged completely from the "phone convinences" rather than always replaced with other tech items. It just feels like one for the other rather than being without. Like the laptop to scroll Reddit rather than grabbing a book... didn't feel like much of anything by day 2. Just a thought.
Agreed! A bit disappointed to see “this is what I want to be doing on my phone right now… so I’ll do it on another device”. The time is still spent…
loved this video! was so interesting. I really resonated with a lot of the things you said about your habits before the week without your phone. I'm aware that it's not good for me but it's so hard to break out. thanks for the added motivation to finally do something about it!! here's to being more intentional, and most of all, more present ❤️
I loved this! One thing I have set on my iPhone is a consistent "wind down" and wake-up time. This puts the phone on "do not disturb" a couple hours before bed, which gives me an hour of self-care, time to prepare for the next day, and then a bit of time to read a book. By the time I am heading to bed I'm completely relaxed and ready to sleep.
This video couldn’t have come at a more perfect time, I’m currently traveling in Europe and have limited data so the only things I can do while out and about is text and take pictures, it feels like the perfect balance of still being present and not feeling like I am missing out, the only time I am on Wi-Fi is while I’m getting ready in the morning and in the evening, I can relax on social media then while being present during the day, it has definitely made me feel less attached to my phone!
Depending on where in Europe you are travelling there are plenty of places (besides the hotel you're probably staying in) where you can find Wi-Fi. We do have the obvious places like McDonalds, but depending on the country you can also find Wi-Fi in local restaurants and in supermarkets. I'm from the Netherlands and I can use Wi-Fi half the time I'm out of the house and that saves a lot of data.
I think maybe if you took up a hobby or craft that you can do with your hands, in those moments of boredom, it can really help. I crochet and knit. I was knitting while watching this video and it keeps me off of my phone. Its super relaxing and it makes that antsy feeling go away, because your hands are at work creating something beautiful with yarn!
I have had to put app timers on everything to help me get some separation, it was really hard at first but it has gotten better. So for those of you working on this that don't want to get rid of the smartphone completly I highly recomend setting timers. You will probably turn them off some days but just turn it back on when you are able
I have to admit, I was a smidge disappointed about the use of Alexa and the ipad. The ipad especially is just a large phone if you really think about it. Now that you done it this way though, do you think you’d consider no smart devices period for even a couple days?
was she just not supposed to use the baby monitor and not make baby’s appointment??? like cmon. ur so annoying
It's crazy how much your home life is run by technology. Things like the Tesla or the curtains being run by your phone seems overly techy to me and unnecessary. But my main tip for your phone: is to set it to black and white/ bedtime mode!! Having your phone in black and white makes it significantly less appealing to scroll, and I have my phone set to limited capabilities (except for emergency calls and my alarm) during midnight to 6am with "bedtime mode" so my phone has no distractions. Another big tip is to mute notifications/apps you don't need constant updates from!
I’ve been so excited to watch this video since you told us on instagram that you were doing this!!!
Me, listening to you talk about how wild it is that you feel the urge to look a your phone while watching movies….when I realized I was READING THE COMMENTS while watching the video because I needed to be doing something while watching 😅😂
Haha, stop calling me out! 😂
I guess I live in the past. I open and close my own blinds. I feel like the fact you can open and close them with your phone freaks me out 🤣
i dont mean this offensively, but you were high key dystopian-level dependent on your phone at the beginning. i couldnt believe how many things were automized! im happy these options exist, especially for my fellow disabled people, but it does start to feel kind of gross kind of quickly. and it's hard to have those tough conversations with your friends over text, and that's why they should be happening in person. if not in person, then by face time, phone or voice messages (in that order). because it's more intimate and vulnerable and that can be scary, but it also brings you closer with the person youre talking to. this is what my therapist instilled in me and i still live by it.
it's funny though, im gen-z (born in 2000) and the stereotype is that we're obsessed with our phones but like... i had a flip phone until my second quarter of college and then bought an iphone myself. i often will leave my phone unattended for hours on end while i go hang out with my siblings/family. so we all have different needs and it's awesome that we have all these options now, but it does upset me when someone around me isnt living in the moment with me. like watching a movie with my sister but she's on her phone the whole time. it's like, i'm trying to be present and share this experience with you and you couldnt care less.
i struggle more with screen time on my laptop, but for my phone (and a couple things on my laptop too) i have time limits set for all my social apps and have "wind down times" established. so once it hits 11:15pm, my phone instantly goes to sleep mode. then if i want to use an app or even google something i have to intentionally ask myself "i should be sleeping because that's what this notification is reminding me to do. do i want to listen to that or do i think this is something i need to do quickly?". strongly recommend!! and good luck to everyone trying to cut back :)
I've been waiting for this one!!
Side note, your hair looks darker than I remember and you look gorgeous! Makes your eyes pop
Oh, finally! I was waiting for this video for quite some time. ;)
When I come home from work, I switch my phone off. Usually around 6pm around dinner time. It’s made me stress out sooo much less, and more present with my kids. Love this video!
FINALLY!!! I've been so excited to watch this video. 💖
Ive been so excited for this video since you first mentioned it in the vlogs!
One thing I do when social media gets awful is log out of everything. Then when I click on it, it is a reminder that I don't actually want to be there. I usually will do that for the week and then check in on weekends. Then I usually can just do podcasts and reading much more! Need to do that again, thanks for the reminder Sierra!
I've been waiting for this one!
I’m not sure why but I’m not even half way through the video and I want to cry. Every word you said are my thoughts exactly! Realizing I probably missed so many present moments thinking I was missing something online. Gonna go be present now 👋🏼thank you for making this video
This has inspired me to do the same. I have already downgraded my smart phone to just the basics. Thanks for doing this.
Definitely using the timing app setting on the iphone helps a lot. Also I’m surprised you didn’t grab a book on the downtime, it’s my way to go when I want to disconnect.
This is one of my absolute favorite videos/blog 😍🤩
Wooohooooo it’s here!!!
Yes the phone is such an addiction. It has taken the place of literally several devices it makes sense. This video is so interesting, makes me feel like I'm definitely not as present as I would like to be. I make an effort a lot to just put my phone down since I had my son. It is kind of wonderful lol. Great video!
Honestly loved this video and I'm not usually one to comment on things! Me and my fella use our phones a lot less than others in our generation and find that a lot of the times when we would be sitting and scrolling we do other activities. We spend time reading books and playing cards together and it really fills the scrolling time with other things. I used to be the same listening to podcasts to go to sleep but now don't miss them at all! Definitely something you should do once a month as opposed to once every few and you'll definitely feel the benefit like we have!xx
Hi Sierra! Love your content and have been catching up while on night shift! I don't know if you'll read this but a tip I use is I turn on air plane mode so that I don't get distracted by alerts or I turn off WiFi/4g so I can still get calls/texts xx
I switched so that I only get 1 notification from UA-cam after I get out of work. I also turned off some of my other notifications/did some other batch notifications. This helped me a lot. I also use do not disturb and sleep reminders/break reminders.
Loved this video so much!
Thank you so much for doing this video. I personally deleted my own social media apps like instagram, Snapchat, etc for 2 years and it’s so freeing. I love that I’m able to just be present in and just take in and live life to the fullest. It was hard in the beginning but so worth it in the end! I definitely recommend doing that to anyone who has thought about and if it’s something you can do. Life is so short and I feel like we should actually live it instead of living the highlight reel altered version of ourselves and our life’s. Wishing you all so much peace, love, and good vibes🤍
What a concept, loved this!!!
Not me scrolling while watching the video
The alternative to not having a shopping list on your phone is not randomly shopping...it's actually pen and paper writing a shopping list and checking things off as you go 😂😂
Somethings I’ve found very helpful with my iPhone are turning off most notifications and having it set up to automatically go onto Do Not Disturb during certain times of the day.
The main thing I notice when not using my phone is how much longer the time feels, and sometimes that's a good thing for me and sometimes it's bad, like sometimes the distraction is actually needed for me to feel and be okay..
Thank you for exploring this part of modern technology. I have seen some research on keeping the phone at your bedside and they said some of the things you noticed; staying up too late and grabbing the phone first thing, both are harmful to your sleep, memory, alertness, distractibility and focus. The suggestion was to keep the phone in another room during overnight hours. However there is a reason for all the modern improvements to life with technology during the day. Good content.
I used to watch movies to fall asleep so I get you there. However, I now just have my Google play the sound of rain! Definitely a good option.
Love the video and the concept. I have already taken the notifications away and put passwords in place but I think I need to set times with no phone use, like in the morning as I wake up and for an hour or so after I wake up and also maybe in the evenings or something. I def spend way too much time on it.
It's interesting for me to watch you talk about this. I do technically have a smart phone but I don't use it and rarely even have it turned on, it's more for emergencies. We have a landline and laptops instead, though my husband does do some texting on his phone if he has to. We use point and shoot cameras which surprises people when we're in public. FB is our only social media though he only has it to play a certain game with me. I usually read before bed and he writes books and short stories. Phone calls are a great way to really connect with family and friends and give you a chance to truly focus on them. Hearing someone's voice and their laugh helps to feel closer and more like you are making a connection. I didn't grow up with a regular home computer (it was from the 80's) or internet despite graduating high school in '95. My college professors were confused by my dot matrix print outs for my assignments lol! Got internet in my mid-20's I think once I got a computer that had connections for it. And he grew up not really having tv until he moved in with me, but he had a computer and internet. We're more of a JOMO rather than a FOMO couple. We probably sound ancient but he's 40 and I'm 45.
I love this concept! I really enjoyed this video
Since having kids I didn’t like how much I was attached to my phone so something I did to help me from picking up my phone so much is I turned off all of my push notifications on all of my social media apps. It has really helped me to leave my phone alone
This is what I love about going off-grid when I'm at sea for work!
It is so crazy how dependent we are on our phones. I need to set intentions too!
I can't just sit and watch anything anymore either, I have no idea how I used to do it before I had a smart phone! However now I also crochet and knit so I do that while watching TV rather than scrolling.
I’m catching up on your last few videos and my brain said “Okay Sierra, give me some serotonin” 😂❤️
Do not disturb is my favorite thing. I have a few people marked to ring through...however my phone usage has gone way down over the weekend...
I started making myself take a break from Tiktok on Sunday and Monday because I was catching myself staying up way too late scrolling, and I need that extra sleep to get ready for Monday, and by the end of Monday night I need the extra sleep from all of the work busyness that comes with a Monday. I miss being able to scroll, but I find other things to do. I read more, I catch up on UA-cam, I give myself more time to meal prep on Sunday. It works for me.
Girl I also use my phone GPS regardless where I’m going to or from. You’re not alone! Love is video concept and the commitment!❤️
I did this my senior year of college in 2018 with an old not smart blackberry and it was awesome until I got stuck in a bad situation in a large city and my phone couldn’t call an Uber. Additionally I didn’t have cash or credit on me because my bag was stolen and I couldn’t get a cab. Literally all I had was my archaic blackberry because I happened to be making a call when my bag was stolen. The night ended up ok but I went back to my Uber capable phone immediately after.
I feel like you should step it up a notch to no iphone, alexa, kindle, or ipad. Just flip phone, stationary computer, a portable CD player and headphones, disposable camera! I feel like that would mimic what our moms' days were like while raising us in the early 00s/90s!
Your mom's? I suddenly feel really old 😳.
@@CraftyRenate omg same 😭 I didn’t have a cell phone until I was like 19. No one really did. Even then, they just made calls.
Last few weeks, I was wondering why we hadn’t heard too much from you! What a great experiment
I really saw a lot of habits i do in this video. Thank you! I need to be more present and appreciate what i'm doing at that moment. 💝
Literally watching this video, I wanted to grab my phone and glance at it quite a bit, but didn't since I was extra conscious of it while watching this video, felt kind of ironic, lol. I will say I have the same issue where it is hard for me to sit and watch a show/movie without jumping on my phone as well and have noticed that lately. I don't like that feeling, as it feels you aren't really doing anything in that moment and feels like a throwaway or "a wash" instead of actually engaging...also, for real the first few days of your struggles felt a little dystopian but really relatable. I really found it helpful how you summed it up as using your phone with intention, and that is spot on!
I deleted all of my social media accounts and deleted all the apps that aren't essential from my phone (like UA-cam and the biggest time waster for me... solitaire) about 2 months ago. I feel so much more present in all of my interactions and my worrying and stress has gone so far down. My favorite part is how much more fulfillment I get out of my social interactions now. I know it's not possible for everyone, but decreasing use and being intentional with what we're consuming and exposing our brains to is super important. Unfortunately, for my easily addicted brain, all of the social media cleanses I've done in the past and time limits on my phone just couldn't kick the habit for me.
Loved the video :) such an important thing for us to talk about and this is a great convo started!
Things like this are why I'm glad my parents were a bit old school. I knit to keep my hands busy and have a hard copy diary and calendar. Must admit I would miss my white noise and podcasts to sleep too.
I am really considering getting rid of my smartphone and going to a dumb phone. My phone has been sucking out my IQ , my motivation, my social skills and my precious time. I am completely addicted and my phone related anxiety is impacting my quality of life.
When my husband and I got together and for the first few years we were together, both of us 19 so we couldn’t afford anything but flip phones since that’s what most people still had in 2007. I cherish all the grainy pictures we have of us from back then and how social media wasn’t such a big thing.
This is so eye opening actually! Funny that you say you would scroll tiktok to unplug.. but ironically actually gets you more plugged into the social media world.
Yes! I had a time limit on my iPhone on social media a while ago, I stopped it cause my baby would only take contact naps until a
While ago but this video
Motivated me to put it on again!
The one thing I miss not living in San Diego is the radio station KYXY! Loved that station🎶❤😊
