As somebody who used to own one of those tripods (and sold it), I'm a big fan of this new adapter (I didn't know about them.) Great DIY video too. I'm surprised they didn't make the adapter a bit longer because so many people will be attaching them to these legacy "ring only" tripod plates.

@@AstronomyGarage thanks for watching John. I consider you to be the king of DIY. Maybe I come in second place lol
This adaptor works really well. There is a version that’s a bit longer like 6 inches and it’s a dual plate meaning you can use the smaller plate and the larger one.
I did it about five weeks ago. I think I attach it on my sky watcher. Eq6

I imagine one needs to be very cautious about the quality of the piece of wood when using it for such purposes. On the other hand, putting some nonmetal piece between metal parts can potentially dampen some undesired vibrations.

@@janomacko5764 yeah pretty much everything you said I would think most plywood should be strong enough and damping
I think metal might be a bit harder to work with
      Thanks for watching

Some one selling similar adapter plate on eBay made out of aluminum for $140.
Search for Vixen SP mount, should come up.
I've been looking for a Vixen SP mount for a while, hard to find.
They can be used in EQ or Alt/Az mode.

@@szaki true I need to do a video on this mount. I’m not actually showing it per se, although I’m adapting the adaptor on it.
Someone else mentioned I should do a review of this compared to like a EQ five
I believe tomorrow I just getting a hold of a Vixen Great Polaris as well
Do you think those adaptors for 140 is that in USA money is worth it that seems almost 4 times more expensive

@@JoeJaguar I own a Vixen GP D mount, but only EQ mode setting is the way.
Try to set it in Alt/Az, polar scope hitting the adjustment screw.
Az mode is great for visual use or satellite tracking, I think?
I have an 8" Newt, but the eyepiece is twisting all over in EQ mode.
That's why rotating rings used for mounting newts, but very expensive for a 8" scope.

@@szaki thanks for that information on your thoughts
I guess I’m a little bit weird. I like to have a mount and tripod for every telescope I have and I think I got about nine telescopes and about seven tripods for it almost one for each.
I expect the quality of the great Polaris to be similar to the super Polaris just a tiny bit bigger and can handle a little bit higher load. It does come ready with the losmandy rail which is neat
