Doug Matthews' and his crew at Classic Fighters of America conducted a 10+ minute engine test run of their newly restored North American F-86F-30 Sabre fighter jet (52-5116) on May 3, 2021. It's the culmination of a decade-long effort to get the old Sabre flying again. With today's successful engine ground test run in Central Florida, their first flight test is only weeks away.

Seems like it obstructs forward visibility a bit though compared to the old school panel.

Interesting that the aircraft had internal power for starting; no need for a huffer! I was fortunate to see an F-86 land at NAS Key West while I was cleaning out EA-3B Whale. In 1974, I walked up and chatter with the pilot who was returning it to the Honduran Air Force after the aircraft was overhauled. I got to sit in the cockpit and it is tight! not a whole lot of extra room in it!

It’s very tight for sure 😂 here’s a video from test flights and then we planned an aerial shoot with the Sabre and a rocket launch. Sure wish the Navy would work with me more! This won Aviation Week’s best for 2023 & was national news:

This is awesome! Kudos to you guys! My profile pic on FB and LinkedIn is of me sitting in this very plane at Reno in 2012. I'm beyond happy to see it coming back to life. Keep up the good work. I want to see it fly! :)

Sept. 14, 2021-----Reno or Stead airport? Shot one 20+ years ago, but don't remember if it was a former drone or Canadian aircraft.

@@oldbaldfatman2766 My bad....I forgot there was "another" airport at Reno other than where the air races are held. The CAF wing there had this plane, and my friend Doug rebuilt the nose bowl. It was sweet then....but looks a lot better now!

Saw one of thoze at Suwon AFB, Korea in the 1980s, parked off in a corner of the base... As long as they don't "Hot Dog" it and fly it regular, it should last a long time. Too many vintage birds have been lost by some Idiot pushing to far. Would be cool if they can restore another one
