I think the best drill for this is to hit 70-80 gap wedge punch shots by addressing the ball, and then regripping it at the bottom of the grip. The club will now be 3-4 inches above the ball. Then to hit the shot your hips have to get down and around, it really gets the hips working well.
THIS…THIS… THIS!!!
I tried this last night. Works an absolute dream!
@@Rickc45h the 70-80 gap wedge punch shots? or the stick through the belt?
@@gabrielrml the 70-80 yard shots. Try it. It’ll really surprise you
Going to give this a try, sounds like a great drill
It's always a fundamental issue with me when I'm out of whack. The hip bump Jonathan is talking about is a prevalent issue with me when I'm not striking it right. Perfect timing for me Jonathan, thanks for the lesson.
This drill is brilliant. It worked well for me today. Not perfect yet but going in the right direction. Thanks very much.
JC- what a great session. Could watch it over and over. Thanks for the clarity.-Russ
Something which helped me achieve this hip downward tilt is the thought of trying to hit down on top of the ball as opposed to swinging through the ball. This is with irons, not driver.
I watched another video of yours recently where you were doing half swings and using your body to hit it far. That has really helped me. This looks like what you’re trying to accomplish in that drill. I’ll be breaking out the alignment stick tomorrow 😊
Thank you, sounds that's exactly explains my poor distance. Can't wait to try that tomorrow.
It also helps to focus on digging in with the inside of your right foot/big toe and not letting the weight shift to the outside of your foot. When the weight is on the outside of your right foot, then it's almost impossible to shift your hips down and around.
I find hip tilt one of the impossible things to feel in the swing, especially as you rotate through the ball. Gret practice tip. Thanks, Jonathan. I've watched your channel for a long time now. Always good swing thoughts. Cheers 🍻
Exactly what i needed for my swing thoughts. Cheers
Nice one. Will try that stick trick too. I found out I started sliding too much recently (I blame an over-focus on low point drills) Trying to keep some hip tilt I noticed on slow mo video that I stopped pushing up with my lead leg altogether. Now ground force was never something I thought about consciously, but since I do, not only have I gained control of my straight push shots, but I also suddenly feel the interesting effect of extending my spine in the end position, which I never had before. As in: shirt logo pointing slightly up. Funny old sport.
Really interesting idea, thanks for sharing!
Another belter of a vid!
Great to hear you enjoyed it!
I just realized something my friend. It is that alot of famous golfers who have tips and advice don't really want people to get good enough to experience great golf and truely get as good as they are. Like Mr Austin who advocates for the raising of the lead hip into a tilt before even starting down which , i experienced , was a seriously bad thing to do for anybody period!!! You have proved today , that Hogan and others are not giving up secrets , but steering us into a lifetime of bad golf and wasred time!! Thank you for giving us this real information. True information that i just tried and it works!!! Keep up the vids bro.
I'm struggling with early extension, bumping my trail hip towards the ball. Gonna try these 2 drills to see if i can change the way I swing
Hi mate good video
I also notice the jumbo grip what size is that? As im looking for something similar thats it quite abit more normal size compared to the small jumbo that is on my driver
Looking for some slightly bigger than midsize
Which golf net do you use?
Is this only for irons or for all clubs including driver?
Great video. My main problem
Unfortunately, i shift weight and get ahead of it, which means i’m not really turning. Just sliding forward. Club gets stuck, face gets open. Push fade. This is helpful.
What would you say about the trail leg in reference to this drill, straighten or keep bent?
Straighten to just short of lock out at the top of the backswing, then bent in the downswing (that will happen naturally via good tilt and hip flexion) 👍🏼
Would you make a video about Scheffler’s feet movement when he hit the iron and driver? Any advantage or thing to learn there, or is he just one of the kind in doing this?
It’s a byproduct of his large amount of total body lateral shift. Hard to keep the feet in place when you shift the amount he does 👍🏼
What golf net is that?
Does this work with driver?
Exactly my question too...
Milo Lines agrees
I tried this just made me swing over the top!?
If doing this drill makes you over the top, then the drill has exposed an out of sequence rotation issue in your downswing. Keep the upper body quiet in transition 👍🏼
So when hips are parallel to target line, would you say that the left hip is still lower than right?
That depends on how quick a player is opening their hips, but typically yes 👍🏼
the best eureka moment is when i realized there`s a very
long time spent gathering enough experience from the "simple"
bio-mechanics of an effective consistent swing, for that almighty
clang of a penny dropping ..its not simple ,its not easy! and we
still can pull a horrendous hook or a savage slice from what
had been "false sense of security"Karma..it just waits 😂😉
😁👍
Thanks bud!
