Shopify Vs. WooCommerce is here! Starting an eCommerce store can be tough, but starting an eCommerce store and choosing the wrong platform can be terrible. In this video, after years of experience with both Shopify & WooCommerce, I've broken down my pick for the battle of WooCommerce Vs. Shopify for the top eCommerce platform.
There are so many factors to consider when building an eCommerce business. There are questions about fulfillment, products, design, functionality, ease-of-use & so much more, so finding the right platform is key.
I've worked with companies using both Shopify & WooCommerce, built eCommerce sites on both platforms, ran ads to both platforms, and worked on SEO for both, but the question is, which one is better?
Hey Chris, nice video. Quick suggestion as an audio engineer - in this video there's a low humming sound probably coming from the mic or somewhere in the room. You can use a 'high pass filter' to remove the low humming sound. Just set it to about 60 or 80 Hz.
Hey Ross! Thank you! We upgraded our gear so hopefully my more recent videos sound better. Please let me know id love your thoughts
Must be listening with headphones on. Don’t notice a hum with audio from mobile device.
I been using woo-commerce and elementor for 2 years....what a nightmare. Things are constantly breaking. The website is slow. Takes forever to fulfill orders and print shipping labels. Constant errors. Moving to Shopify this week
Years ago I was using the same thing. WooCommerce & Elementor. The shipping plugins are where we ran into the most issues. But yes, overall, it was bad. With the Shopify 2.0 themes, it was a no-brainer and haven't looked back. Good luck man! I'm starting a new series where I review/advise on subscribers websites & marketing. If you'd like a review once you make the switch, let me know!
@@ChrisMarrano forsure. I would love that! Thanks
Yeah I found Elementor easy to design with but not the best for maintaining a Woocommerce store. You spend more time administrating the site than you want because updates can lead to site breakage. The block based plugins are much more stable but less design friendly
@@poppingjaz 100% agree with you. Have you made the switch yet?
@@ChrisMarrano not quite yet. I use to do it for clients every blue moon but lately have passed the projects off to people who are woocommerce experts
Hi Chris. Two questions: What about owning your data and exiting the platform at some point in the future and anticipating that Shopify will likely have price increases as time moves on, do you still recommend Shopify over WooCommerce? Great video, thanks,
I would say that would depend on the volume of sales you have. But overall, I still go shopify for everything
I'm used to wordpress/woocommerce and just switched to shopify. The only reason I did this is because it's designed for conversions and it's used by everyone, I was just wondering if you think it will make much of a difference conversion wise?
So if you’re used to Wordpress & woocommerce, you know it’s really about product & design, so I couldn’t say better conversion rates, but in terms of functionality & seamless integrations & api’s, Shopify is the best, that’s why I choose it these days.
I am considering making the move. Was it a good move for you?
Dear Crhis,
I have a question, when I go to switch to Shopify, do I have to pay first and then start building the site, or can I build it first and then pay when I plan to put site online? I hope you understand what I mean :D. Ty :D
You can start a trial, then pay
What are the Shopify add ons that are absolutely necessary to add? Because I have a Wordpress blog but I heard adding woocommerce will break the site with their updates. I can’t afford to worry constantly “will this be the update to break my site” so I’m considering Shopify.
Shopify will basically work right out of the box. I would recommend some apps, but if you're looking for a turnkey option, Shopify will provide that.
Have you guys checked out any Shopify 2.0 themes? Which one are your favorites?
Wordpress is better because I can design my own shit in there, Shopify it’s much less customizable
And for me in Israel it’s much profitable to sell on woocommerce because Shopify is taking almost 3 percent per sale through 3rd payment processors
I would have agreed with you a few years ago but ever since 2.0 themes, they have given the ability to customize almost every page. But, everyone has their favorites, no faulting WooCommerce, it's just a more challenging setup with everything.
@@artembusiness553 Shopify can definitely add up with the monthly cost + shipping labels + fees.
While Shopify is easy to use, less stress to maintain, I'm not a fan of the fact that you need to pay for apps (well some) on top of the monthly fee.
I agree. You have to be very smart about how many apps you use. It can add up!
Which one can be set up on mobile? With premade templates for someone who doesn't know what they are doing? Also if your hosted on namecheap how does that work. They have a website builder there but not sure about the ecommerce part and how to add that
Neither. You’re going to need a computer
Doesn't Shopify charge 2% extra on all transactions?
Yes, but so does any other credit card processing company (PayPal, etc)
@@ChrisMarrano I know, that's not what I'm asking.
Credit Card processing is usually about 3%. I'm asking if Shopify charges 2% ON TOP of that, making the total fees 5%.
This is an extremely important question for my clients, because if you're making 100K/month that extra 2% adds $2000/month to your overall cost.
Is shopify better than wix e-commerce ?
Yes, without a doubt, for many reasons! Wix is a clunky code, but also functionality, user-ability & overall ease of use (for backend stuff)
@@ChrisMarrano Man i hope that question was a joke lol
@@goaway1885 I gave him the benefit of the doubt lol
Is woo commerce secure
Seems like Shopify is just like Instant Niche Maker used to be.
It’s 100% my favorite ecom platform
So, I can get a subscription with woocommerce and not have to buy one for shopify?
That is correct. Woocommerce is used with wordpress, which is free, while Shopify has the $29.99/mo fee
Has Shopify gotten better by now
100% I highly recommend shopify
Can you integrate Shopify into your Wordpress? API keys?
Unfortunately not 😢
@@ChrisMarrano I just saw a couple videos today saying you can?
ua-cam.com/video/4ei4yIFxRy8/v-deo.html
Somehow grateful that you're a secret, somehow wishing you couple million views haha. Thanks for your help
My man! Thank you very much!
Bruhh you didn’t mention about anything man , so my understanding we just pay price of theme and just use our store fee free ? Or there will be monthly costs , percentages of sales or what else
Shopify is $29.99/mo. The theme is a one time price
@@ChrisMarrano Hi to have the shopify themes 2.0 minimum cost is $79/month not $29, I think you should clarify this in the video, anyway thanks for your sharing.
Why don't you elaborate more on how shopify makes Google and Facebook ads more accessible
Absolutely! Great idea, I’ll throw it into the mix. Make sure to subscribe and we’ll get it out in the next few weeks
but guess what CJDROPSHIPPING will do all fulfillment on their own AND they work with woocommerce AND THEY ARE US BASED to provide 3 day shipping. The winner is obvious
MIND you, shopify says they can hold your money or terminate your account WITHOUT NOTICE on any given day. Good luck with that lol
Shopify has the same CJ Dropshipping integration as well. But hey, everyone has their favorite platform. I just always choose Shopify for all my stores.
I've had products get turned off due to licensing, but in all my years i have never ever heard of anyone's account getting terminated. This isn't Facebook. I wouldn't worry about it.
