Hi there! The bone is a bird keel (chest bone). Large one though… turkey? Have a great 2023 start.
Many thanks and best wishes for 2023
That’s part of a Bronze Age sword. 100% I have pictures of one a friend found recently. Check the area. He found 4 pieces that made up an almost complete artifact spread over about 30 meters. Well found!
That would be amazing Ryan. Much appreciated and thanks for the info. I’ll definitely be re-searching the area in the hope of more!! Best wishes for 2023
The lead piece looks like a medieval strap end possibly from the belt that held the scabbard. The cross design on it looks like the St Andrews cross mate it’s a brilliant find
Thanks Dave. Happy new year 🥳 and best wishes for 2023
Okay that bone is a pheasant keel! Would have to be a funny looking human. That other metal thing has something to do with those four dot tokens because it has a cross with four dots on it. I wonder if that was the symbol for that household.
I'm fairly new to your followers. I enjoy your honesty and any information you can share with us. I personally think finding some junk finds is important. It adds reality to your show. I struggle with Digger Dawn and the Klegg fellow, they only show good funds. Same with the German fellow. I like you all, but it helps out things into perspective when you find the odd but if junk. My biggest complaint is your Thumbnails show a fellow dressed in a purple Tux! You need to live up to that! 🤣😂🤣😂
Yeah, I like to dress up when I go detecting 😂 🕺 Happy New Year 🥳 to you
I think the design on your button at 25:45 is on the back of the button. It looks like the shank was soldered in the center of the flower.
Thanks Brian. I think you are right. Much appreciated and happy new year 🥳
Hello from the old man from Tennessee. Happy New Year. I love that location. You will find so many amazing relics there. Stay safe tonight have a drink for me. Those days are over for me.
Best wishes for 2023 and happy new year to you and yours!! 🥳
Looking forward to you finding the rest of that bronze spearhead (sword), and other great relics. Happy hunting.🇨🇦
Thanks Karen…. Me too fingers crossed 🤞 happy new year 🥳
New Years Resolution not to forget my toothbrush! 👍👍😉 That's the thing about resolutions, easily broken.😂 Another enjoyable video. I like the fact that you practically every time date the king or queens reign. I think I will be able to recite them myself once I have finished looking through your catalogue. Was the buckle pure silver?
Thanks Al. I don’t think the buckle is pure silver but certainly a fair bit of silver content, I’m guessing 1500/1600’s
Make sure you give the toothbrush a good clean when you get home 🙂 Reckon you could be right about the buckle being silver, its also rough enough made to be quite old.
I think it’s 1500’s and not pure silver but certainly a fair silver content so I’m happy with it!!
Great video looks like a lead strap end love your little dog. Len
Many thanks Len. Best wishes for 2023 🥳
From Alaska USA, Taikuu for another great day of digging treasure's. I don't have a detector, but I find a lot of things from watching the ground. In 2005 I was in Fallujah, Iraq and had brought a convoy of supplies in for the military. I was walking across the parking lot and all of the sudden I knew I had seen something, not knowing what it was I backed up about 10 paces and then begin creeping forward looking back and forth scanning the ground and suddenly there it was a stone hammer! Now I was ecstatic that is the neatest thing I have ever found. Had to leave it in Iraq when I came home but that didn't really bother me the thrill of finding it was really more than keeping it could have been.
Quite the find OB! Maybe you should be a Detectorist!! Best wishes for 2023
Seems the Cross of St. Andrew with four dots is a re-occurring theme, as in the lead tokens you recently found. Cheers from Texas!
Yes Mike, I think the cross influences come from St Andrew and from the hammered coins of the period. Best wishes for 2023 🥳
I have just discovered you channel and subscribed after you managed to entertain me through a dank afternoon and evening. Unlike many, you have a good understanding of history which enables you to provide an excellent commentary and place everything you find in a well informed context. The complements i can pay are 1. I never knew the origin of 'daylight robbery; 2. You have a fine voice and a natural presentation which is an additional reason for making you want to listen. I am not surprised people are subscribing in good number!
Many thanks for the kind words Ian. Much appreciated. Best wishes to you and yours for 2023!!! 🥳
Happy New Year John, had my last dig of 2022 in Stirling yesterday too, 3 George V pennies and a Queen Victoria pewter gothic florin forgery.
Happy new year John. Well done on the finds. I’ve only ever had one Victoria gothic florin and thankfully it was real! Happy hunting my friend
Ah,ah,ah,ah,stayin alive, stayin alive! Look at you in your wee purple suit!🤣🤣. My hopes for you is 50k subs in the New Year! I feel it’s going to happen! Much love from NY! Hi to Martin as well 👋🏽
Many thanks Mack and best wishes for 2023 to you and yours 🥳
If I knew I'd give you a clue but I'd just be guessing out of the blue! Have to train Judah to dig your holes for you...Thanks for posting! MMc
You’re a poet and you don’t even know it Mike. Happy new year 🥳
@@thescottishdetectorist Thought you would get a kick out of that! Cheers
Thanks for the consistent great content. keep diggin the dream & Lang may yer lum reek 🎉
Happy new year 🥳
I think your mistery item could be a early 1900's compass devider.. keep on diggin boys!
Thanks for that information much appreciated and best wishes for 2023
puppy is getting big fast
Thanks Sheila. She’s a wee monster 👹 😆 best wishes for 2023
Small tip. Put all your kit in a container.
When you leave home put the container in your vehicle.
Problem solved, all your kit will be with you.
Yeah but with my memory I’d forget the car 😂 thanks!
Absolutely fantastic and fascinating. Thoroughly enjoyed watching. Impressive knowledge of history. Thank you
Many thanks and happy new year! Got out yesterday for a dog on my new permission and what a day!!!! Video to follow.
Another great video as per usual your knowledge is mint 👌 👍
Thanks for the kind words and happy new year 🥳
that stone you found with that cross on it is georgeous , greetings from holland
Happy new year to you!! Best wishes
I think the "agricultural" piece of metal found around the 13 minute mark is a cotter pin. I would say you categorized it accurately. I discovered your channel last evening and am very much enjoying it. As an American I find it mind blowing that you can find coins and bits from over 1000 years ago!
Welcome to the channel Patrick and I’m glad you are enjoying the videos! Yes the history we have around here is incredible. Potentially any field could yield a metal item or object up to 4,000 years old
Agreed, absolutely is a cotter pin. Likely from farm machinery.
I am a new subscriber and subscribed after watching the first time. Very informative , a joy to watch . Happy New Year to you..
Many thanks Janet and a very Happy New Year to you and yours!!
Finished off with a bang John. Hopefully 23 brings you lots of epic finds
First days digging of 2023 and it’s a beauty of a discovery!! Couldn’t have asked for a better start!! 🥳
That "lead" strap end could have started out as pewter, over many years in the soil they can "convert" from pewter to lead depending on the initial quality, brilliant find, I would be well pleased with that.
Thanks for that info Tony. Much appreciated. It’s a very interesting find and I’m happy to have found it. I managed a little over three hours on the medieval fort and village yesterday and got 2023 off to a flier with some fantastic finds!!! Best wishes for 2023
What a great area to dig. The field looks like a popular area from medieval times to the present. I love how you discuss the history of Scotland as you examine the finds. Good finds if not as many coins as you were hoping for. The decorative lead piece is worth investigating more. The bronze bits would make a good conversation pieces with some medieval metal expert. Your hunt buddies did well too. Happy 2023 to all of you, including your wife and puppy!
Many thanks Susan and happy new year to you and yours
First YT vid I've watched of the year. May the finds overflow your pouch this year.
Thanks Nate. Much appreciated and best wishes for 2023
Aye ladd, when in doubt dig it out
Amen 🙏
I wonder if the Cross and Dots was the emblem or sign of the family/castle, because you are finding a lot of them. When you found the polished stone with the engraved cross on it I noticed that even that had dots in the end of its arms - another cross and dots.
Thanks Nikki. The cross and dot is a design we’d call a Celtic cross so I think it’s a very stylised design here in Scotland and the cross and dots is I think taken from hammered coins in the medieval period.
Many thanks for your input and best wishes for 2023
Wonderful channel, thank you. Have just bought my first MD and am very enthused by your work. Happy New Year to you 🙂
Many thanks Richard and happy hunting!!
Happy Hogmanay x from Orkney. 9.47K wowzers
Many thanks wow 🤩 and best wishes for 2023
What a day for you! Plus I'm watching on January 30 2023 and your title says you just hit 9k subs and I'm watching at 15.2k subs. Your channel is growing fast and I can see why. We don't have these kind of finds in USA. Keep digging that beep, you never know what you'll find.
Much appreciated Joan. Yes the channel is growing very very fast which is amazing!! I’m delighted 😁 and thanks for your support
Just found your channel, fascinating stuff. Happy New year to you and I look forward to binge watching your content 😁👍🏴
Many thanks and welcome to the channel
Looking forward to another year of great videos, all the best john from the sunny fields of Suffolk.
Many thanks Sue and best wishes for 2023!
"there's been a murder" 😂😂
R.I.P. big T
I told you you'd hit 9k and you smashed it, great stuff. A deserving reward for your hard work.
Happy new year!
Many thanks!
Good day to ya! And happy new year!🍻
At 5:00, the find is (was)a button, made in London. The shank is still there. It's been bent over and pounded completely flat. Maybe to be used as a gaming peice?
Happy new year and thanks for the info!
A one-man Time Team
Thanks Charles…. I wouldn’t go that far but I try 😆
Oh aah, Jura!
Good choice John. Wonderful dog.
These pieces of bronze and that shoe buckle….. they’re definitely old.
The flat piece of lead: maybe be a fishing weight for multiple hooks or a maybe netting tool?
Seems handy….😂
Rudolph Hess must have lost it out of his Rambo survival knife. 😉
Haha thanks as ever Wolfie. Love your input! Best wishes for 2023!!
@@thescottishdetectorist For you and the members of your Mc.Eachen clan also John. Best wishes and a big thanks and thumbs up for supporting your clansman.
And what a coincidence….
I love your input too John. 😂
Happy new-year guys!
You have an excellent site. I’m glad I found you. 👍
Many thanks and see you on the next dig! Happy new year 🥳
Lang may yar lum reek John
See you in the new-year
Many thanks and best wishes for 2023
well done on the subs
Thanks Alan and thanks for your support. Best wishes for 2023
I think you're right about the lead thing. An ancient strap end. That silver buckle is really cool too. Based on the pitting I'd think that was pre1700s anyway. Awesome finds and congrats on 9K! Happy New Year!
Many thanks and best wishes to you for 2023!! 🥳
James the second cannon mishap!....please do tell
Basically whilst laying siege to Roxburgh Castle in 1460 - the last castle in Scotland held by the English - a cannon exploded severing his leg and he bled out in a few minutes! They joys!!
Jura are definitely going to be a big GSD
Lucky dog nr.1 soon.
Posh Silver shoe buckel ca 1600
Handel of a bronce knife/sword a Danish
Detektor club found a complete in March
Last year in 5 pieces (22).
Aim for this year 15501 Cleggy beware.
Dangerous with that New years promise.
🤣🤣🤣 Will it last? Stay tuned Happy
New Year🎉🥂👍😜🔝❤️
hahah 😂 happy New Year Toni. Best wishes for an amazing 2023!!!
Great video John. The lead artefact looks like a strap end.
I keep recommending your channel to people and my friend in Florida has subscribed.
Happy New Year to you and your family! Jura looks to be growing fast.
Thanks for the help and recommendations Gary. Much appreciated happy new year to you and yours and I wish you and yours a healthy and prosperous 2023!!
Mate, you find stuff, and you're not boring. You deserve the good results.
Much appreciated and happy new year 🥳
@The Scottish Detectorist only just got the notification. It's a little late, but anyway. Happy Hogmanay.
some very interesting finds there, love the lead object, quite a strange one, never seen anything like it tbh. As for the bronze object i agree it looks like the base section to a bronze age blade with that profile. I have seen similar examples with holes like that also, not sure if there intentional decoration or casting defects.
Looks like part of a Bronze Age blade to me as well. Some fantastic finds.
Thanks Mike and Peter for the info. Much appreciated. Best wishes for 2023 to you both!!
Looks like part of the eating knife accessory to a Dirk.
There's some seriously interesting stuff coming out of that field. I think your thoughts on the bronze fragment with the holes are spot on; it does indeed look like the top bit of a Bronze Age leaf-shaped sword. And it's in a small enough bit to place it into a melting-pot for re-purposing. It's looking more and more like a sizable Bronze Age settlement. Have a great 2023.
Thanks for the input. That would be amazing if it is and hopefully more to come!!! Have a great 2023
Nice silver shoe buckle! 😁👍 “Drroped it. Yet again!” 🤣 It is winter and join the club mate and it also shows that you’re not a dyed-in-the-wool scotsman, because he would be able to catch the coin that he dropped. 🤣 That was the definition I heard when I was a child, here in Australia. 👍🥃🥃
Yess! Mr. J has done it.
Congratulations John!! More than deserved.
Greetzzzz.
Pete.
Many thanks Wolfie and happy new year to you and yours. May 2023 bring you health, happiness and joy! 🥳
Happy New Year! Glad to have found your site, after finding Nicola White. Being English and Scottish, so glad to see how searching is done in both places. You have a wonderful accent (I can understand you!) and impart a lot of knowledge!
Many thanks Deb. I’m a big fan of Nicola too, met her last year as well! Happy New Year to you
I’m pretty sure the long mystery item at 13:04 is a compass from a drafting kit.
Thanks for that info Rex, I’ll need to investigate that one further! Happy new year 🥳
Your content is awesome you definitely earned my sub. Your silver buckle looks to me to be a knee buckle from mid 1600s to the early 1700s such a beautiful find.
Many thanks Dave. Welcome to the channel and thanks for the info
Another great interesting hunt . All the best for 2023 🧑🦯
Many thanks and happy new year
Happy Hogmanay!!!
And to you James 🥳
All the bronze you are finding could possibly be a cannon that exploded when last fired ???
That would be amazing 🥲
Happy new year.
And to you Baz
Everytime you drop a find, an angel gets it's wings. Happy New Year!
Haha 😂 👼 best wishes for 2023 AD 🥳
Best wishes, sir for a prosperous new year! The second bronze piece had the shape of weaponry. Like the throat of a spearhead? The lead piece was really interesting. Between the shape and the markings, someone spent some time making it. I'm looking forward to a follow up on that one.
Thanks Jeff. Much appreciated and Happy New Year to you. Hopefully see you on the first dig of 2023!!
Have you ever watched the comedy series. Detectorists. I think it is brilliant.
I have watched it and saw the Christmas special!! Great programme!
Happy New Year from Montana. I won’t be able to detect here until at least March. Nice video and amazing history.
Happy New Year Donald! Long may your lum reek! 💨
You can't detect up here in Winter. It gets down to -50C ground gets a bit hard! 😂🤣😂🤣
Yowzer 😮 that’s cold!! Stay warm and happy new year

What a great Doggo. You're hardy, John - out in yon cold. Really enjoy your channel, so informative. Mòran taing!
Looking forward to more detecting in 2023 Happy New Year!
Best wishes and happy new year 🥳
The bone is the breast from a large bird, possibly a chicken, raven or such. Happy New Year!
Many thanks Doug and happy new year 🥳
Top show son and a Happy New Year
Many thanks James and best wishes for 2023
🎉Happy Hogmanay, John! Good luck detectoring in 2023! 🍾✨🤞🏻
Many thanks Violet. Best wishes for 2023 ❤️
The “agricultural” thing at 13:00 is actually a navigational compass probably from the 1700s or earlier. I hope he hasn’t thrown it away 😂
Much appreciated and thanks for the id
Happy new year to you and everyone in Scotland
Many thanks and happy new year 🥳
Happiest New Year to you John - it should be almost midnight in Perthshire, almost 11am here in Melbourne and 30 degrees already - a little warmer than you there. Your subscriber numbers continue to explode higher, over 9.5K now. At this rate you'll be 10K before the end of the first day of the year!
Thanks Andy. The growth is amazing, can’t really believe it. Best wishes for 2023 for you and yours

Many thanks Paul and happy new year 🥳
Congratulations on meeting your subscriber goal! You deserve millions of subscribers!
Many thanks for the kind words and happy new year to you!! 😘
The lead piece has the same pattern on it as the lead tokens found in previous dig ,a cross with four dots
Yes Stephen. Seems to be quite a common design. Either related to St Andrews 🏴 also our flag, or hammered coins I think which all carried a cross and dots
Thanks for all the interesting entertainment John. Lets hope you keep the luck going into the new year. Happy hogmanay!
Many thanks Tony and happy new year 🥳
A Happy New Year John to you and your family from deepest darkest Kernow.
Many thanks and happy new year 🥳
Happy New year 🍺
Happy new year 🥳 🍻
A Happy New Year to you and the gang. Congrats on the finds and smashing your 9k target. 🙂
Many thanks and best wishes for 2023
as it was very difficult to produce bronze they did not throw the odds and sodsaway but probably traded with them
Thanks Sally. I wonder if it could be a disturbed founders hoard or such like? Happy new year to you 🥳
Happy new year to you and your family
And to you. Happy new year Richard
The round lead seal is not Dutch but from Flanders. I think you are right it is from a cloth of linnen. The crown and lion and the L stands for King Leopold. The Western Flanders area is historically a centre of linnen and "laken" production.
Thanks for the great info Hans. Much appreciated
Happy New Year, could the other bronze pieces ( not the sword bit) be pot legs?
Many thanks Donald. I’ll need to have another look at them! Best wishes for 2023
Happy new year
Another great video
Will you be testing the buckle to see if it is real silver?
Yes, I’ll give it a test. I think it’s got some silver content but definitely not pure but we’ll soon find out!
Great video John, as always & a very Happy New Year to you
Best wishes and happy new year 🥳 Steve
Well done buddy. Happy New year to you & congratulations on smashing it with the subscriber count. 10 K , Let's go.!! Bless up 👊
