Thanks for your review of the NIV Grace & Truth Study Bible. Mine is the NASB Grace & Truth Study Bible. It is very similar to this one. I find it very helpful for daily bible study.
Great review thank you! I have the premium and the gold is beautiful! This Bible has surprised me with how much I love it. I wasn't sure about the book introductions at first but I really like them. Same with the commentary. I agree with your description, it's like you're sitting down with your pastor and he's explaining it to you. Very very nice Bible
The Al Mohler Study Bible!. It is probably most attractive bible I have ever seen. I am talking about the medium blue goatskin leather study bible with the red inside cover. The prices have come down a lot over the past few months. I just purchased a hardback Grace & Truth Study Bible for $11.00 plus shipping on eBay. It was used and in perfect condition.
Thanks again for doing a thorough review of this 'new' study Bible. I am big fan of NASB (1995) and as I mentioned in other comments, the NASB MacArthur Study Bible is my favorite with its extensive NT exegetical notes. I know this Grace & Truth Study Bible has the NASB version as well and I am wondering if it's worth getting it. In your opinion, what are major differences between this and the MacArthur Study Bible in terms of the content notes? Does this newer SB have more extensive notes than MacArthur's?
I wouldn’t say “more extensive”. Prob the same as far as number and length. Just a different slant on the writing. MacArthur is..well MacArthur and the Grace and Truth is Al Mohler (who I love and highly respect). So the content while not being the same…will have a similar theological slant. Keeping in mind Johnny Mac is a Calvinist, Dispensationalist and Al Mohler is Reformed. Similar in most areas. But not the “same”.
I've mentioned the NASB a few times in some reviews and videos. the 1995 edition is solid! known as the closest "word for word" translation available. I don't particularly like the 2020 edition due to "inclusive" language. BUT ....NASB is very relatable translation. I just personally feel like it's "clunky" in it's reading and prefer the ESV. Much easier to read...IMO
How do you feel about the NIV compared to the previous NIV 1984? The 1984 version was my favorite but I heard so much criticism about newer versions. Oh had the MRI this morning, get results next week. Thanks for the prayers
We'll keep praying. And ya know. I'm not a huge NIV fan either way. It's the translation I grew up with and it's still a solid dynamic equivalent...it's just not really a translation I spend much time with these days. I don't like all the "gender inclusive" language the switched it up to. But the NIV is the most widely distributed and used translation of the Bible world wide...so it has it's place.
I’m a new subscriber. Recently this Bible was given to me a by close friend. I’m delighted to have an in-depth copy of the NIV because of its wide distribution in the Christian world. I will check your reviews but I wonder, what are your thoughts on the NLT? I love it … especially the HelpFinder Bible by Crossway for new Christians. What say you? Thanks 👨🏻🦳🔥♿️ MikeinMinnesota. I’ll see YOU at the Top!
Hey Mike! Thanks for the sub. I do have a handful of NLT reviews. I don't have to much trouble with the translation. That being said...in my opinion...it has a purpose. I use if for strictly reading large chunks or even would recommend for "new christians" or even younger people. The language is easier to understand. But...you need to read it understanding the team of translators is doing a LOT of work for you so it really isn't the best tool for in-depth study. I don't have the Help Finder Bible so I'm not all that familiar with it. Incidentally, if it's NLT its put out by Tyndale and Lifeway, Crossway puts out the ESV. (which is also one of my fav translations) Thanks for watching!
