Thank you so much for taking the time to post this video! Just fixed my leaking Kitchen Aid refrigerator and sincerely appreciate your expert instructions!
Easy to follow! Just did a swap on my unit. KitchenAid. Ordered this same part. Took about 15 to 20 minutes to remove the refrigerator, remove the panel, remove the old drain (sure enough, there was gunked up fibers right where the water comes out) and out in the new piece. Our bottom freezer was leaking every day near the bottom right and left foot / corner. We'll see what happens through the weekend. This piece seems much better designed. The old piece is open and will accumulate gunk and blockages over time.
@@bluecollarbuddha948 we ended up replacing the refrigerator with a Bosch. There were other issues we were having. We bought the home and it came with the refrigerator that was about 8 years old. This swap did fix the leak though.
Thank you. Perfectly explained and spot on for my problem. I did have the new design drain hose, and it was easy to remove and clean after watching this video. Again, thank you.
Instructions worked well for my KichenAid frig. My frig already had the new drain pipe with the trap/bend in it. After I melted all the ice, the drain would still not drain the water. Root cause: Some spinach (or something green) had plugged up the trap in the pipe, causing the water to back up onto the floor of the freezer compartment and eventually onto the kitchen floor.
Thank you so much for the video I watched another video this was more helpful because it didn’t mention the white part that you have to put on the drain I installed the new part 👍
A leaking refrig is a very common problem with all refrig units. The units icing up due to the drain tube not getting enought heat from the defroster coil or the new "energy conservation" that does not let the defrost cycle long enought to remove all the ice. The other is the bladder drain, after many years it clogs up, backing up water, allowing it to freeze. This new "P trap" like a common drain, so no small bladder valve to clog. Just remember, if you drain tray is broken/cracked... it's going to leak.
I have this new type drain hose, but my fridge makes a gargling sound as air tries to escape down that hose when closing my fridge or freeze doors. It never used to do this, is there a procedure to stop that gargling noise its very annoying. I have never heard that noise on any other fridge I've ever used.
does this part need to be cleaned the way the old drain bibs? I have this part but it started leaking again after 4 years, Wondering if it needs to be cleaned.
Its a good video.....but, a couple things he left out....the bottom part doesnt remove that easy, because theres a little button you have to push to release it.. I put a small screw driver from the inside and popped it open.. Then, when i put the spacer in, i heated with a hair dryer cause it was too tight, that totally worked... And that was it!
@@raysmusic49 in my freezer I have the same tube( new design )and after 5 years , just happened, my husband just fixed it today. If happens again, he said he will call the specialist to fix it, too much….
Amazing in this day and age to have a refrigerator that needs modifications ,long after being on the market. I bought one a few years back and every few months, it has to be taken apart to clean the ice buildup. First I heard of this modification.
I call BS depending on which manufacturer this drain tube is for. The tube doesn't just lift right off on the bottom with 0 effort as in the video on a Maytag. Beware you can crack your drip pan so this video can be a bust and cost you an additional $100+ if you aren't careful. There is a tab that needs to be pushed in.
ours kept leaking too. today I took the door off and racks and turned it off and put a header inside of it and it froze all the ice and unclogged the drain hole. took about 2-3 hrs cuz I wanted to make sure all the water drained down the hole completely
@@appliancepartspros when it drain to the pan, where does it go after draining to the pan? This is the first time the fridge leak on to the floor in 20 years.
the drain in our Whirlpool, Made in America, has dog hair clogging the , becuse the intake fan is strong. there is ice along the rear as well as the down spout. How can I unclog it.
Just did this. 10 minutes if you do this before your freezer starts forming ice. I did break a part of the drain pan retaining clip, but part of it remained and it shouldn’t affect operation. I also just blew out the clog so didn’t need the new part.
@@appliancepartspros I continue to have an intermittent issuance of water coming from beneath my fridge despite having cleared the clogged tube. There is no ice buildup in the freezer. Any thoughts?
or simply snip the end of the drain tube, because it sticks together over time. You will absolutely not see any difference in how your refrigerator works, other than it forever stops leaking water out the front every time it goes into defrost mode. It takes 10 minutes, and costs nothing. Did it 5 yrs ago. Son had same issue 2000 miles away, described the fix, he did t two years ago, works great. There's plenty of videos for that fix.
Found out my plug was clogged. Looked at the drain container and it was completely dry. Ended up buying a new drain plug but could have unclogged old one
sorry to be offtopic but does someone know a trick to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost the password. I love any tricks you can offer me!

removing the open sided drain tube might be one of the most fustrating things i ever did in my life. there's a push-in bill on one side and i can barely fit my hands in let alone try to push it in to remove the bill.
This was a complete bust for me. I ordered the part according to the model number of my fridge, and there was nothing corresponding to replace. The video looks great, but the insides of my refrigerator looked completely different.

3:45 did you have to cut off a portion of the spacer to make it fit? In the next scene it appears the spacer is missing a chunk.

What if the ice buildup on the top of the coils around the fan?
and also how would you know that is the drain tube where the water leaks
You would check the drain tube for cracks.

How did you get the back panel off.
wow watch the video
1/4" hex driver is usually how most appliances have back panel secured. A drill (set to screwdriver setting) makes this task even faster.

where does the water of the condensation goes when it drain?
The condensation drains into a drain pan at the bottom of the unit.
@@appliancepartspros but if it's in a drain pan, where is that water draining into? I don't understand
