In this context I think I prefer the mics without the mic emulations

That SD-7 could be a contender with mics 2x-3x its price point. I expect to start seeing it all over the place. I'll bet its a great broadcast style mic, too.
I’m just curious how the modeling compensates for preamp gain/saturation?
Interesting, I really like the idea of these mics. However, I wish the snare mic sd 3 emulated more interesting microphones. It emulates mics that are quite attainable, I mean why emulate an sm57 for $125 when you could get an actual sm57 for $99 or used for even cheaper? Chances are you probably already have one too. The tom mic sd 7 seems to emulate more high end mics. A 421 for $149 is a good value as it is, but I'm not hearing major differences between emulations either. I'm not sure why the kick mic emulations sounded so muffled and dark, I really expected at least the d6 emulation to sound bright and clicky, but they all sounded muffled until he started moving around the filter. The sub kick emulation was cool. The mics did sound good without emulation, so it almost seems like an afterthought. Not sure how much I want to feel like I need to rely on the plugin to sound good anyways, but I am still open to it.

I think all the emulations are pretty much spot on, except for the Audix modeling. Those ones are very scooped sounding and the emulation does not sound anything like the originals.
