The chip speed issue is solved now for Pistorm32. Will probably be released new firmware in the weekend.
Does that also fix the reported PCMCIA issues I’ve read about?
Thank you, Doug and retrobits for your dedication to the Amiga. Thanks to your videos, ShapeShifter is running Mac OS 7.1.1 on my PiStrom32 Lite with RTG graphics like a charm.
your amazing to watch chris
Thanks Chris. I’ve got a PiStorm 32 Lite and a PI 3 with Caffeine. Just need to build up a Hardware system for it 👍🏻 Still prefer this to a Vamp V2.. Which I’ve hardly used since..
Thanks!
wow thank you so much!
Running the free version of Amikit on a modern PC with Chris's Pimga3 disks is a great experience. Well worth trying...🤓
Amazing, I ran Stores selling Amiga's, But today is only time I have seen Turrican being played, I only saw it @ Software sales, in a pile of software mixed with the 500 copies of LOOM ... 😃, Nice to see why Pimiga is so good, I prefer for things to be cheaper, to find out you don't like the game, PiStorm will get there, but still needs some work ...
Fantastic :)
Yes I'm really liking the more modern os side of things for games. I mean a stock 1200 is perfectly capable, but trying more intense games and software is what I want. I play more Amiga ports on the 3d0 or the Genesis. I want to create art.😊
Thank you for this follow-up video! Questions remain. Emu68 nightlies have updated since my initial install but the firmware is unchanged since Dec 2022. Is that correct? The two pieces are maintained by two different people. Do I even require a firmware update if updating Emu68?
Nope
I should have picked up an Amiga 1200 years ago. However, I should not complain since I purchased 2 brand new CD32's found in a building from China about 13 years ago. Still, I miss my Amiga 1200 from 1992. I sold it pretty cheap back in the day.
wow!
so why not test games that would actually made some use of that power? :) like Wings, Red Baron, F/A 18, Tornado, etc.. I remember one of the biggest reasons I moved from A500 to PC 386 in those days were those simulations that were slide fest on Amiga.. That would be cool to see if Pistorm32 makes those games to run like butter..
Hi Chris. Thanks again for your videos. Let me ask you (and your viewers) something as I don't know anything about ARM or Pis. Does PiMIGA run other than RaspberryPi ARM SBC? Like an OrangePi for example?
it can be compiled for almost any system. check out the github for Amiberry for different compile options.
Hi chris, How is the layout inside the a1200 looking with all that in it, i've got the pistorm and an indivision mk3 in there too and trying to figure out how to get the 2 hdmi's and microsd output all on the back right blank plate ?
Mine is crowded. Run one out the modulator and one out the backside expansion plate
Hi Chris! Which nightly version are you using? Many games i have found with issues
20230427
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration hi thanks.same here. Many games for me doesn’t work like Lotus 3, Pang and many more. Any tip? I use caffeine os with his own collection and my own. Cache option, emucontrol… nothing. Maybe you can do a video explaining how to configure
Installed and booted my PiStorm32 last night with the help of your videos, thanks. All I can say is WOW. My 1200 is a completely new machine again with the benefit of playing my old games. My only issue now is getting the thing online. Any tips on networking hardware? Might the RPi be able to use the WiFi at some point in the future?
at the moment pcmcia cards work. just make sure they are not cardbus ones, my 3com works great.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Thanks. Would a 3com 3C575tx work? 16 bit.
@@The411 i have a 3c589 pcmcia. was like 50$ on ebooger
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Have you ever used an A314CP which is a Pi interface for the clock port which gives you network and shared storage, and I think even USB.
No , they were unavailable to me when they were out
Thanks for video! I was purchase a PiStorm for my A1200 and is probably comes to my place in a few weeks... is necessary two monitors for use it? one for AGA RGB and other for RTG HDMI... is not possible use just only one monitor?
not one monitor at this time... rgb requires a 15khz capable monitor, or your 1200 needs a scanplus aga or icomp device. the hdmi is for amiga rtg only. thus a seperate display or port, like hdmi
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration thank you Cris... Now I know need two monitors at the same time!
FANNYS YA AUNT
idk what that means.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration It’s the follow on from “Bob’s Your Uncle”. It’s a old U.K saying.. “Bob’s your Uncle, Fanny’s your aunt”. 😉
Ahh
Hiya, i Got a pistorm but I had no time to test it out, just played diablo which is great!! Hope I will have some spare time to do an update and test it out properly!! Regards from Poland guy's 🇵🇱
Did you put your Pi4 in a Pistorm yet? I wonder if the chip speed would be any better.
i did but had so many issues with it i went back to the 3b+
Could you please test Lotus 2 and Lotus 3 using the PiStorm32.
What is the name of the song at the end of this video? Love how it sounds in Dolby Atmos. Google Assistant throws up different names for it every time I try to find out but it does (giving credit to tech) find spookily similar stuff like "Serial box" by Alexis Bard & "Costellazioni di Kabab" by Anastasio. Take a listen people, who "influenced" who first? lol
i make my own music. so ME. lol
I was having great luck with a PiStorm 32 Lite and a Pi3a+ in a ReAmiga 1200, then suddenly without warning it crashed, rebooted to a flashing green screen, and hasn't worked since. With a little tinkering I finally got it to work with my original Amiga 1200 motherboard, though that board has its own problems (I think it has a faulty RGB port and I lose video if I jiggle the cable, though the RGB cable is fine with other Amigas.) Anyway, the ReAmiga still works fine with my MTech AmigaPower 42mhz 030 board, so I'm stumped as to why the PiStorm would suddenly STOP working with my ReAmiga. I wonder if trying a newer build of Emu68 might resolve the issue. After all, a flashing green screen is a chipram issue, correct? I may try updating when I get home tonight.
yeah happened to me too, update of the nightly fixed it
This gives me hope. Sausagefingers crossed.
Yeah, didn't fix it for me. Still get a Kickstart screen for like half a second then a green screen and a flashing D900 diode. This is only on my ReAmiga 1200. It WAS working, but now it's not. The PiStorm does still work in my real Amiga 1200, though.
@@JaceFuse pull the card slight out by 1-2mm
Didn't really seem to make a difference, but it did randomly start working off and on. I'm starting to suspect that the power supply might be a little flaky.
How do you get the new version with the chip ram and timing fix? Just update Emu68?
yup
@Chris Edwards Restoration updated mine few days ago but still a lot of problems esp with Demos. Hoping it will improve going forward.
@@EXITMUSIC2011 Like so many things in life, it takes time and hard work. It's amazing that they've managed to get this far in such a short time. When it comes to physical Amiga hardware, timings are both critical and fixed... the AGA chipset expects everything to be on time. Unlike with pure emulation, there are no shortcuts or software tricks to speed up real chip RAM.
Is it possible to play games from floppy disk using the pistorm32?
Yes that device works as normal
What Emu68 version was this? New nightly built recently
I think i mentioned it in the video and showed the screen
@ChrisEdwardsRestoration a new nightly build was released a week after this video so may have improved more.
Wich OS are you using?
Ore is this Caffine OS?
In the beginning caffeine in the end my own w hyperion 3.2.1
Have you tested this again using Beta2 update?
Not yet. I have it and do not notice any diff in speed
There has always been a problem with emulating aga chip set reminds me of how hard it used to be to emulate the N64
The PiStorm doesn't emulate the AGA chipset though, it uses the real chipset in the Amiga. The problem is caused due to slow transfer from CPU (in the Pi) and the Amiga's chip RAM.
There's no problem emulating the AGA chipset. You only have to look at WinUAE etc to see that AGA has been in there for years. Chr8sxeve showed PiMiga running perfectly on the Pi 400.
Thanks!
wow thank you so much!
