  • oztooltalk test the behemoth of cordless rotary hammer drills, the Dewalt DCH481 SDS MAX. This 54V tool is said to be equivalent to a 5kg 1050W electric unit, which is a pretty big claim.

    A comparison between the Milwaukee SDS max cordless hammer drill would be awesome.

    We had a demo at our shop over the weekend displaying de Walt one of them was this machine. I must say beside it being on the heavy side what a awesome tool.

    I’m going to get their new version of SDS Max drill coming out in June which delivers 13.3 Jules!

    9AH batteries probably only offer around 20 minutes of chiselling time, I have two of them and two chargers and two Sixers in reserve. I used the drill today and yesterday to widen a dry riser cavity so the electricans could run their tray up the riser. It took out a good inch of hardened slab face on two batteries, surface area about two feet by three feet and 1 inch deep.
    Vital tool for me, any other tool would have been too heavy or long to use at the top of a ladder in confined space with limited wiggle room.
    Power is civilized too which is important, you don't want to get stuff blowing off the surface at close range back into your face.
    It's just ideal tool.

    I own this drill. It really really works. Only drill I ever used that outperformed it wasn't really a drill, it was a HIlti T-100.
    Trust me, the DeWalt 54v SDS Max works.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  7 років тому

      [Dwain] Ha, yeah the T-100 is a different beast. This cordless SDS-Max really is something else though ....

    It's a nice tool but the makita corded 6kg hammer delivers almost twice the joules at 1100w.

    Nearly double impact joules than the milwaukee m28 this dewalt blows it out of the water. Until milwaukee up there volts then dewalt is the clear champion

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  6 років тому

      [Dwain] but Milwaukee do have an M18 SDS-Max with similar specs!

  • @mrclive5
    @mrclive5 7 років тому

    Just so you're aware, there are actually three models in the SDS plus range; 323, 333 and 343. I have the 323 which punches at 2.8 joules which is plenty. The other two are slightly higher at 3.5 joules. Which model do you think you'll use in the upcoming high voltage shootout?
    Great vids.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  7 років тому

      I don't think we have the 323 in Aus, so probably the 333 and/or this one

    • @mrclive5
      @mrclive5 7 років тому

      Oz Tool Talk , they're all good machines. I also have an M28 sds from Milwaukee, very nice machine, but at 4.1 joules it has a habit of breaking the shafts of chisel bits. Any idea what the line up will be for the shootout?

      And yeah i agree about the price...more than 500 quid as a bare tool in the UK.

    Hey does it affect the flexvolt batteries by charging them on the 18v lithium
    Ion chargers? I know flexvolt tools come with their own charger usually but I have a lot of dewalt 18v xr line and chargers. Also what’s the difference between this and the dch333?

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  6 років тому

      [Dwain] The fast-chargers that come with flexvolt kits ARE 18V chargers. Flexvolt batteries are 18V batteries until they are connected to a 54V tool. So any lithium-ion charger on any lithium-ion battery is fine.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  6 років тому

      watch our SDS comparison to see the differences from the DCH333! :)

    When they can make electric cord for 1 battery tools no one will buy 220v machines. It is better to have both options.
