- Fly Fishing Knots
In fly fishing, or fishing in general, there are a few knots fishermen (and women) needs to know. The best knots are the ones that are easiest and fastest to tie. The five knots mentioned can get your fly (or lure) in the water as soon as possible.
These knots can also be used in conventional tackle. We'll concentrate on how to tie these knots for fly fishing applications.
Leader - amzn.to/3Xuv5gE
Tippet Material - amzn.to/3w5DbAB
Fly Line - amzn.to/3w7EHSP
0:08 PERFECTION LOOP
1:38 BLOOD KNOT
3:43 SURGEONS KNOT
4:49 UNI KNOT / DUNCAN LOOP
6:49 IMPROVED CLINCH KNOT
Perfection loop: used for connecting the leader to a fly line. (Fast and Easy)
Blood Knot: used for connecting sections of the leader and/or connecting a tippet section to the leader
Surgeons Knot: used for connecting tippet material to the leader (Fast and Easy)
Uni Knot or Duncan Loop: used for attaching the fly to the tippet (Fast and Easy)
Improved Clinch Knot: used for attaching the fly to the tippet
Make sure to lubricate the knots before cinching.
Practice tying the knots prior to going to the water. This will save you time and keep your flies in the water longer, giving you more chance of catching fish.

OMG THE BEST VIDEO ON UA-cam! BRO, YOU DID IT RIGHT!
Thank you very much. Glad it helps.
Long waited video. Thanks for uploading Bryan :)
Thanks J! Hope this helps on your fishing trips.
Hey Bryan ,
Nice video Just a note that the blood knot is a poor choice for attaching lines of different diameter and it will slip more as the difference increases.
A surgeons knot triple or quadruple)in case of huge difference)are recommended!
In the tapered leader the difference in diameter is not that high between sections and the blood knot goes through the guides better due to its natural taper hence it is used in tying leaders.
Main event most of your Audience are new to fly fishing I think you should mention this , don’t want them to loose their first whopper
Yes, I totally agree! It should only be used for building tapered leaders. Thanks Durvesh Tight lines!
Brilliant video. Just what I needed after loosing 3 yesterday because of my rubbish knows! Thanks
Ah that is heart breaking! Glad this can help you in the future 😊. Thank you for watching and Tight lines!
Ok this video I am going to every time I fish...cause I have been wanting to learn how to tie the knots...so awesome thanks for sharing! cheers! :)
Thank you Beer Man! Glad this could help you. Tightlines!
Cheers Mate!
Thanks Refai! Cheers! 😁
This video is very cool. Always wondered how they do it. Saw you at PUSA Studios and came to connect with your channel.
Thanks @Just Living Welcome and glad this is able to help you. Connected as well. Have you gone fishing lately?
I know about two knots - this is so handy, thank you!
Thank you Fern The Camper glad this helps you. Since you camp, do you fish a lot as well?
@@BryanWentFishing Not as much as we should! It's been so dry, all the riverbeds are missing water...
Dry season in your area im guessing. Hope drought ends soon for you.
@@BryanWentFishing Thanks! We're in Southern California - the wet season seems to be avoiding us for an unusually long period. Grrr.
Wow true, hope you get some rain soon to get that fire risk out of the way, stay hydrated
Wow you're very good at that 👌👌keep up the good work and lets stay connected
Thank you very much for the kind words.
@@BryanWentFishing my pleasure lets stay family
Agree! Have you gone fishing this year?
@@BryanWentFishing no not this year bro sorry
Great tutorial!!!
Thank you, glad this helps. Do you have a favourite knot you use all the time?
Double surgeon knot and the clinch knot
@@woods2creeksoutdoorsdulins448 both great knots. I prefer the duncan loop over clinch for its speed. I want my fly ready as fast as possible lol.
This was super helpful, I recently entered the world of Fly Fishing and found there's a ton to learn. Liked and subscribed my friend I appreciate videos like this
Glad you're able to get value out of our video JB Outdoors 😊. Thank you very much for the support. How do you like fly fishing so far?
@@BryanWentFishing I love it! The biggest thing for me to get used to is wading in current. Paying attention to what I'm doing with the rod while remembering not to pick up my feet too much has been difficult for me. I like casting from shore better ;)
@@JBOutdoors Ah yes! i had that issue before haha. Now i try to minimize wading, just so i dont spook fish as much. Keep it up it gets better :)
Glad I’m not the only one! Thanks!

Bonjour mon ami, aime ta chaîne. Le grand brochet est l'un de mes poissons préférés à attraper. Continuez votre bon travail. Lignes serrées!

Bryan Went Fishing
I don’t fly fish much Bryan but that was a very good and informative video on knot tying. I’m a one knot kind a guy, I pretty much just use an improved clinch knot on everything. Thanks for sharing this, learned a lot.
This is good news, glad you picked up something new. They have advantages for different situations. Let me know if you have questions.
I've been following the war in Ukraine alot so I've brushed up on my knowledge of international rules of engagement. That said I'm almost 100% sure the music in this video is a war crime as it breaks at least 3 laws
Enlighten us please.
This music hurts my feelings really big
Feel free to mute the music 😉
Music sux
Thanks for the feedback 😁
@@BryanWentFishing RE: DirtbikeDude's unnecessary remark? Bryan, just ignore this silly little bosomhead; your instructional-video was great!
Thank you very much Martin 🙂
