If you don't want to be a tank... fire wall can be cast perpendicular to a boss. So rather than clicking on the boss, just make it so the wall extends towards them from you - cast it beside you instead of on the boss. then when they follow do another right in front of you and they will cross intersection of 2 fire walls - they'll melt. I wanted to get some cold for the fire immunes so I skipped energy shield.
Great guide Cooley! If I may, I'd like to correct one small thing about the A2 merc. The mercs hired from Hell have their aura levels cap out at 16, while the ones hired from Normal have theirs cap at 18. Similar caps also apply to Jab, and Hell merc stats are also lower, so you basically never want to hire a merc from Hell.

I really hope they don't try to nerf the fire wall damage in D2R. It has made my Vampire Necro a master of all trades. He's a summoner primarily but with Trang's set the fire wall does really really well. Combine the fire wall, some plus all skills items, and some fire facets and even his relatively low (level 23 or 24) fire wall eats through enemies nicely.

But maybe Orb/CL works fine with Crescent Moon (perhaps on switch if you need FCR on the main hand) as the -35 Enemy Lightning Resistance saves tons of skill points because it is a massive damage bump.
I ran into a Barb a few days ago named “Goldfind.” I attempted to trade for Tals armor. Instead I got a rattlecage for my efforts. The Tals was swiped after Goldfind said he needed to make room in his inventory. Lost my items…for a rattlecage…..Well played my friend, well played.

I have a theory on why firewall hits harder. It may not hit harder, but faster. The first time I played d2r I realized that the effects of the shrines lasted less than what they lasted on d2 Undead warriors around Pindle also reanimates faster than they revived on d2 So maybe timers (not cooldowns, but timers) work a little faster on d2r than on d2. Affecting "damage per second" skills like firewall and poison skills.
@@Jc-do5xg maybe poison nova. Poison nova efecct last for 2 seconds and generates a visual feedback (target turns green). You can test how long the "green effect" of the poison lasts on d2 and compare it with how long it lasts on d2r.
Fire wall can also be casted up close perpendicular to the target then you can run backwards through the fire while the target chases you through it as well.
Im running frozen orb, but grabbed firewall for cold immunes. And man I definitely use firewall just about as much as frozen orb. Solo cleared up to ancients in act 5 lvl 82. 1 point in warmth and no energy shield. Fun build.
fyi I've been using a similar build to this and it truly slaps. Idk what happened to firewall in D2R, it was always good as far as the damage to skill point investment was concerned, but it seems like the hitboxes have been adjusted or something and it's way less finicky when you drop it on a crowd. Also the fact that firewall's big damage synergy, warmth, actually sorta "soft synergizes" with the energy shield portion of the build makes it just... wicked. If you think of your mana pool as your "health pool" in this build with maxed out warmth and mana regenerate gear it's like having a health potion on at all times
I have been doing orb firewall and this is making me consider respec! And I do feel that even with orb firewall that the firewall is a ton more effective than I remember it being in d2 lod.
Firewall has always hit hard. It was pretty common years ago to make a firewall sorc with a one point orb. Cold mastery had like a crushing blow effect on monsters that were chilled making it a one point wonder you could use with any other element combo.
This build is awesome, saw it on stream the other day. Instead i did one into cold mastery and the rest into orb for fire immunes and i have no issues with level 11 ES!
Yeah If you don't get to invest into high telekinesis then I wouldn't use a very high ES either. Everything will hit double to your mana so if you get 1k hit it will be 2k to mana which is probably an issue. But 1k dmg to 50% ES is only what -1k mana ? :) part will go to HP of course. Kinda always went into half ES.. felt like 20 points to telekinesis was kinda rough for just a defence. But I always liked to have a high mana pool. Like 50/50 vita / energy. Remnants from the days when you couldn't buy manapotions and didn't have insight rw :)
Great video mate. D2r has definitely buffed the hell out of any tick damage. I've got a firewall/frorb sorc and went max vita (no block) she has over 2k life using full tals and hits the 105fcr. Absolutely love it. Pks pretty hard too
hey cooley, a little upgrade to this. if you dont use lower rest on your swap, then you should go dual spirit instead. That way you can tele to boss with 105+fcr
Have you considered using frost nova as a 1 point wonder skill? I have always used firewall as my early ladder build and I always felt like the technique of slowing with frost nova, laying a wall and teleporting as far down the wall as possible (takes practice and cast rate) helps when you cant facetank

Firewall is great for sniping non-fire immune Nilhlathak. I'm running an orb/firewall sorc and just pop in, drop a firewall on him and pop out. He dies in 1-2 firewalls if you get it right - this build would probably do it in 1 firewall since mine is optimized for cold rather than fire. FW is also great for hitting those nasty vipers at a distance/around corners. The only drawback is that Halls of Vaught has a bunch of other fire immunes.
12:56 about that... on my meteor/fireball and frozen orb sorc sometimes mephisto will take more hits to bring down. I think sometimes bosses can have more resistances to certain things?
FW has always been my favorite fire skill. Massive damage... That said, with all the synergies and maxed mastery (and enough +skills - not possible on bnet), fire bolt will actually do more damage than any other skill. It takes a hell of a lot +skills though. Definitely not doable on bnet. It was just something I played around with for the fun of it 😎
@@vendettasnares i forget exactly how much to make it the highest damage, but somewhere in the neighborhood of +60-80 skills. And yes, an editor is required to get that high of skills. They're a fun way to learn more about the game. I still play through the game, find items, etc though - normal play through is more fun than making an invincible character.
Just need an essence of destruction and terror so I can respec to this to try to myself. Wish they would make respeccing easier for people who can’t quite kill Baal or Diablo alone yet
The best Diablo channel I've ever found - 20 years ago I was getting beaten up and couldn't distribute skill points and create characters properly, and didn't understand the game mechanics - with your help and knowledge I now get the best out of the game!
Technically your merc has hard points in Prayer and Meditation has it in its basic package that it also applies Prayer while active. It's probably the same principle you see with tesladins, torchadins etc.: if you have hard points in Resist Lightning, your Holy Shock from Dream will get synergized.

I use blizz sorc with geared merc and i also dont static bosses and they die in seconds without having to deal with the placements of firewall and the mobs moving out etc plus the cold slowing mobs allows better grouping. I heard a few people talking about this build though over the last few days so this build is growing in popularity for sure!!! I can definitely see this being a great build for boss farming! The real ? Is are they going to change firewall later lol!
Don't see a reason to, unless the immortal sorc PvP build is insanely good now. Used to be you couldn't really damage other people because wall damage in LoD was lame.

nice build but I think blizz sorc is just as strong tbh. I melt meph in about 2 casts and I dont even have DF yet. I do really like that insight/prayer trick though, never seen that one. might have to try it out
I specced into maxed cold mastery and a few days after they silently nerfed it. I am sad to say that the same will probably happen here. It is a good candidate for dual sorc build though. Good video man.
by silently nerf cold mastery you mean fix a bug that was introduced when d2r came into being. The firewall issue was something to do with particle size so its sort of a old bug that got fixed, it used to only hit 1/3 of its damage, bc fw makes like 3 walls but looks like 1. Youll notice meph dies about 3x faster at the end of the vid
Not really enjoying blizzard sorc at the moment this is a tempting build. I only have 1 free respect left and was saving it to swap to lighting when infinity is an option. But firewall or firewall orb really look fun

In LoD, mephisto died aome time after 4th cast of FW, meaning it take slightly more than about 3 FW cooldown circle(about 3.5 circle). In D2R, mephisto died almost immediately after the 2nd cast of FW, meanings it take only about 1FW cooldown circle(may be 1.25 circle). So, despite both take little time to kill mephisto, FW actually doing about 2.5-3times more dmg in D2R. Personally, I dun want FW reverse all the way back to LOD-like dmg,which is almost useless but some kind of nerf (like drop to 75-80%) shall be considered.
What would be a good dual spec skill to go with firewall? I tried orb and didn't like it because they shared a cd. And I've never been a big fan of ES. I considered Nova, what do you think?
I don't usually play fire sorc, I made a fw before watching this video. I do say their strong, at lvl 30 was was able to do 3k on norm. Even out damage people that was 45-52
Everyone had Firewall sorcs when Expansion launched.. no one really had one (successful) before the launch :) It got changed a lot and was powerful (shorter duration and more dmg /sec). You combined it with Orb most of the time. Back then no synergies so you just needed 20fw + 20mastery 20 orb + some Cold mastery Probably some ES + Warmth..
I've been using Firewall with Nova on my sorc for a couple weeks now. Nova may not get any synergies, but it's spammable and is pretty good at killing everything around you when boosted in some way (like lite GCs, ormus, griffons eye, infinity, etc). I only do 13k firewall damage, but bosses die in seconds. I also use a barb merc with a lawbringer runeword for the decrepify (feels safer than act 2 holy freeze merc to me), but sanctuary aura can sometimes be annoying when trying to burn down undeads. Anyway, I always used to think Firewall was pretty strong in LoD. Seems about the same, but maybe I'm misremembering. Good vid, though.
This makes me think; would building into Firewall and Warmth be a better alternative to Meteor for a Meteorb sorc You'd have a bunch of points left over to dump into something like Enchant and have a Passion on your switch just for fun
I tried it (but as Hybrid with Blizzard) and missed to MF-switch at Andariel :D. Got a yellow Shako. Warmth as synergy is cool as the Merc is decent with Insight, but hits like a truck with Obedience (however, the poison damage trick does not work then).
I use similar build, max frozen orb with maxed firewall. I have no problem full clearing any areas solo/duo very efficiently and I actually prefer to use firewall against bosses and orb against minions.

Basically this version is a boss killer, BUT... If you go Orb instead of ES, she can clear Chaos and other areas, as well. (Orb, Ice Bolt, little into Mastery)
I always go max ES withhout telekinesis,you can makeup that 2/1 dmg with a massive pool of mana and reach 93-95 dmg% reduce easy that with a tiny bit of dmg reduce rolls you take 0 dmg
Quick Question: Do you think it's feasible to add points into firewall as a Blizzard sorc? I already maxed out Blizzard and I'm at level 88. Wondering if I should add points into the pre-requisites of firewall and let my gear add to the rest of the points. That way I can hit cold immune monsters with a fire skill.
Great question. Unfortunately (in my opinion) Blizzard builds take up too many skill points to be effective with Firewall. My current build is Orb/Firewall which I would highly suggest... Especially if you mix it up with Max Block
how do you do the Chaos seal pop farming trick as fire? I'm finding it impossible, my merc doesn't slap nearly hard enough to solo all of the fire immune mobs
I couple it with frozen orb to be able to clear every area in the game...if I had infinity with max dmg I would choose this build but since I am a poor shit I'll stick with dual dmg
Oh yea, I run FO/FW Mf sorc, and that Fire Wall is melting bosses in seconds even when it's not maxed (just 20 FW and rest of points split between Warmth and Fire Mastery).
I think its better to max warmth with one point into fm, it gives the higher damage after skills from gear. At least the planner from maxroll says so. So max fo/ice bolt with points into cm to bring it to 100% and max fw/warmth with one point into fm.

mercs still need to manually turn their auras on im fairly certain, the meditation from insight is always on. but when u look at pally skill tree, prayer and meditation are synergies of eachother and some funky mechanics happen. Cooley always got these clever tricks.. its so obvious i never realized it and just stuck with the traditional holy freeze. love how Cooley switches things up

Prayer adds healing to meditation as a synergy. So therefore without prayer, meditation no longer offers healing of hp.

After playing this build for a few weeks now, I can say it is a lot of fun!
Firewall is also a great secondary skill to take as a Frozen Orb sorc if you want something to kill cold immunes.

I have also been plyaing a hybrid firewall build, and have been amazed by the takedown speed of the firewall.
I'm using orb firewall as well for CS runs and it's fantastic. Orb keeps everything on the screen in hit recovery, firewall shreds cold immunes
Yup. Firewall was my favorite skill in classic and am leveling orb/wall now. Glad to see that I can use it more than current LoD firewall.

12:56 about that... on my meteor/fireball and frozen orb sorc sometimes mephisto will take more hits to bring down. I think sometimes bosses can have more resistances to certain things?

I run a similar build, but use frozen orb instead of energy shield, which makes it so I can farm basically anywhere.
This kind of build is what makes D2 shine. Congrats for the video
FW has always been my favorite fire skill. Massive damage...
That said, with all the synergies and maxed mastery (and enough +skills - not possible on bnet), fire bolt will actually do more damage than any other skill. It takes a hell of a lot +skills though. Definitely not doable on bnet. It was just something I played around with for the fun of it 😎
Why not doable on BNet? How many +skills do you need?

@@vendettasnares i forget exactly how much to make it the highest damage, but somewhere in the neighborhood of +60-80 skills.
And yes, an editor is required to get that high of skills. They're a fun way to learn more about the game. I still play through the game, find items, etc though - normal play through is more fun than making an invincible character.
I'm running a Blizzard Sorc with a few points in Firewall - if it's not Fire AND Cold Immune I can kill groups of it in a few seconds.

The best Diablo channel I've ever found - 20 years ago I was getting beaten up and couldn't distribute skill points and create characters properly, and didn't understand the game mechanics - with your help and knowledge I now get the best out of the game!
I didn't realize skill synergies worked from non-base skill points. Good to know with the insight prayer merc.
It's an interesting thing with those specific auras (was like that in LoD, too). Like if a pally has cleansing on, he will also heal from Prayer.
Technically your merc has hard points in Prayer and Meditation has it in its basic package that it also applies Prayer while active. It's probably the same principle you see with tesladins, torchadins etc.: if you have hard points in Resist Lightning, your Holy Shock from Dream will get synergized.
This reminds me of the original immortal sorc build from d2lod! Good video though! I personally dont like firewall at all lol!! I use blizz sorc with geared merc and i also dont static bosses and they die in seconds without having to deal with the placements of firewall and the mobs moving out etc plus the cold slowing mobs allows better grouping. I heard a few people talking about this build though over the last few days so this build is growing in popularity for sure!!! I can definitely see this being a great build for boss farming! The real ? Is are they going to change firewall later lol!
Don't see a reason to, unless the immortal sorc PvP build is insanely good now. Used to be you couldn't really damage other people because wall damage in LoD was lame.

I have a sorceress at level 73 right now, I am running a lightning build but I want to swap to firewall, I wonder if that would be viable for me (in hell ofc)
My gear isn't really so good because I mainly just progressed the story all the time never farmed bosses so far.
Probably won't make a huge difference but you could cube up your magefists to exceptional/elite for a couple more defense

The other thing is warmth regen naturally counters poison damage when you have ES up, too.
Poison damage bypasses ES. They have no interaction whatsoever.
nice build but I think blizz sorc is just as strong tbh. I melt meph in about 2 casts and I dont even have DF yet. I do really like that insight/prayer trick though, never seen that one. might have to try it out
I specced into maxed cold mastery and a few days after they silently nerfed it.
I am sad to say that the same will probably happen here. It is a good candidate for dual sorc build though. Good video man.
By "nerfed" you mean "fixed"? :) CM was never meant to break immunities by itself, but it did before the fix.
by silently nerf cold mastery you mean fix a bug that was introduced when d2r came into being.
The firewall issue was something to do with particle size so its sort of a old bug that got fixed, it used to only hit 1/3 of its damage, bc fw makes like 3 walls but looks like 1.

Firewall hidden op. If your a fan of vita sorcs you can do this build with points into orb for rushing people in hell. Before you get an infinity.
Not really enjoying blizzard sorc at the moment this is a tempting build. I only have 1 free respect left and was saving it to swap to lighting when infinity is an option. But firewall or firewall orb really look fun
U got unlimited respecs. Just buy a token of absolution from someone each time u wanna respec . Does cost u like um rune

BEST way?? G-Rush and Chaos Runs until lvl 60, then Baal runs. NN for restat with that approach.

In LoD, mephisto died aome time after 4th cast of FW, meaning it take slightly more than about 3 FW cooldown circle(about 3.5 circle).
In D2R, mephisto died almost immediately after the 2nd cast of FW, meanings it take only about 1FW cooldown circle(may be 1.25 circle). So, despite both take little time to kill mephisto, FW actually doing about 2.5-3times more dmg in D2R.
Personally, I dun want FW reverse all the way back to LOD-like dmg,which is almost useless but some kind of nerf (like drop to 75-80%) shall be considered.

What would be a good dual spec skill to go with firewall? I tried orb and didn't like it because they shared a cd. And I've never been a big fan of ES. I considered Nova, what do you think?

I don't usually play fire sorc, I made a fw before watching this video. I do say their strong, at lvl 30 was was able to do 3k on norm. Even out damage people that was 45-52
Everyone had Firewall sorcs when Expansion launched.. no one really had one (successful) before the launch :)
It got changed a lot and was powerful (shorter duration and more dmg /sec). You combined it with Orb most of the time. Back then no synergies so you just needed 20fw + 20mastery 20 orb + some Cold mastery
Probably some ES + Warmth..
My sorc from back then was a tri element. Firewall, Frozen Orb and Lightning storm. I miss thos days...
I've been using Firewall with Nova on my sorc for a couple weeks now. Nova may not get any synergies, but it's spammable and is pretty good at killing everything around you when boosted in some way (like lite GCs, ormus, griffons eye, infinity, etc). I only do 13k firewall damage, but bosses die in seconds. I also use a barb merc with a lawbringer runeword for the decrepify (feels safer than act 2 holy freeze merc to me), but sanctuary aura can sometimes be annoying when trying to burn down undeads. Anyway, I always used to think Firewall was pretty strong in LoD. Seems about the same, but maybe I'm misremembering. Good vid, though.

Does lightning mastery increase the effectiveness of Telekinesis and Energy Shield? Just curious why you have a point into it, was it for leveling?
I tried it (but as Hybrid with Blizzard) and missed to MF-switch at Andariel :D. Got a yellow Shako. Warmth as synergy is cool as the Merc is decent with Insight, but hits like a truck with Obedience (however, the poison damage trick does not work then).

I use similar build, max frozen orb with maxed firewall. I have no problem full clearing any areas solo/duo very efficiently and I actually prefer to use firewall against bosses and orb against minions.

Probably drags any groups out of the room qnd teleports over them to skip the wave.
Awesome build. Anything that changes from the blizzard routine is great. Is it manageable in other areas or only boss killer?
Basically this version is a boss killer, BUT... If you go Orb instead of ES, she can clear Chaos and other areas, as well. (Orb, Ice Bolt, little into Mastery)

I always go max ES withhout telekinesis,you can makeup that 2/1 dmg with a massive pool of mana and reach 93-95 dmg% reduce easy that with a tiny bit of dmg reduce rolls you take 0 dmg

Quick Question: Do you think it's feasible to add points into firewall as a Blizzard sorc? I already maxed out Blizzard and I'm at level 88. Wondering if I should add points into the pre-requisites of firewall and let my gear add to the rest of the points. That way I can hit cold immune monsters with a fire skill.

Great question. Unfortunately (in my opinion) Blizzard builds take up too many skill points to be effective with Firewall. My current build is Orb/Firewall which I would highly suggest... Especially if you mix it up with Max Block

how do you do the Chaos seal pop farming trick as fire? I'm finding it impossible, my merc doesn't slap nearly hard enough to solo all of the fire immune mobs
You can go hybrid with froorb.
But u let go of energy shield and a bit of fire mastery.
I couple it with frozen orb to be able to clear every area in the game...if I had infinity with max dmg I would choose this build but since I am a poor shit I'll stick with dual dmg
Oh yea, I run FO/FW Mf sorc, and that Fire Wall is melting bosses in seconds even when it's not maxed (just 20 FW and rest of points split between Warmth and Fire Mastery).
I think its better to max warmth with one point into fm, it gives the higher damage after skills from gear. At least the planner from maxroll says so. So max fo/ice bolt with points into cm to bring it to 100% and max fw/warmth with one point into fm.

Works well on mobs. Just Tele and take a step back. Your merc gets swarmed and your firewall can wipe out large packs very quickly.
People thought i was trolling with my FW Sorc until it started melting bosses once you cast lower res on the boss.

And you know what is ironic on that even diablo die in 5 sec with firewall😆 lol not so fireproof at all mister lord of terror😂

interesting info about the prayer merc and insight , i thought insight just forced merc to use prayer aura instantly when you are out of town.
mercs still need to manually turn their auras on im fairly certain, the meditation from insight is always on. but when u look at pally skill tree, prayer and meditation are synergies of eachother and some funky mechanics happen. Cooley always got these clever tricks.. its so obvious i never realized it and just stuck with the traditional holy freeze. love how Cooley switches things up
