    THIS STORY:
Alvin Cullum York, also known as Sergeant York, was one of the most decorated United States Army soldiers of World War I. He received the Medal of Honor for leading an attack on a German machine gun nest, gathered 35 machine guns, killing at least 25 enemy soldiers and capturing 132 prisoners. York's Medal of Honor action occurred during the United States-led portion of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France, which was intended to breach the Hindenburg line and force the Germans to surrender. He earned decorations from several allied countries during WWI, including France, Italy and Montenegro.

    THIS CHANNEL:
    _________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

Beautifully done.👍💯💜👏👏👏🙏. Gratitude to Alvin I thank him for his service. He was. Not only a good man but a humble one. Good heart. War takes a lot of a bodies lot developed health problems down the line. Sad he went through health but I'm sure hes not at peace and any health issues he had on earth is over once he got to heaven. I know God love soldiers. Can't you hear God saying well done my good and faithful servant. Welcome home son. Imagine Alvin having having a huge grin on his face as he received his halo.🇺🇸🌠🙏😇👏👍👌✨. This is indeed a story, a life to be proud of. So humbled he didn't give in to fame or thought of money. Glad he accepted the house he deserved it. That make him a hero in my book

Thank you for sharing about Sergeant York. I love your videos and information that you share especially about the military. My family was very much involved in the military. I had an uncle who was part of the OSS in World War II and after( there were only six of these men and the only person they answered to was the president of United States) unfortunately shot in a tank. He eventually died of his injuries when he was 29 years old leaving behind three little boys. I always give thanks to our military and I know some of them are in situations that other people complain is wrong shouldn't have done anything but they are doing their jobs. Again thank you and bless you for the gifts you give us.

How much you wanna bet that Sgt. Alvin York's time spent hunting at the Yellow Doors cliffs prepped him all those years earlier for what destiny had in store for him. That hill those Germans were shooting from, 223, was just a walk in the park for him. He was probably all like, "Bitch, please!" He picked those men off as if he were back home hunting turkeys. lol

It is right that men such as Alvin York should be remembered in this way. "The Internet is forever", they say. So, Mr. York, here is an enduring tribute to you! A couple of things I noticed: Mr. York and his wife are buried in reversed positions. The second thing is....look at all of the flowers! It is a sign that the surrounding area is VERY much alive with the friends and family of those laid to rest in that particular cemetery. And hanging baskets appear to be a favorite means of decorating graves in that area. Lastly, Airman Second Class York may well have died in Vietnam, or shortly after having returned home. 1938-1972 indicates he was 33 or 34.

Sgt. Alvin York fought in WWI even though he was a pacifist. He had an amazing record in the war but he lived to his70's. There is another WWI hero who lost his life doing pretty much the same thing. Sgt.York was born in Pikeville, Tennessee, just a stone's throw from where I live. Milo Emert is a local hero born in Marshalltown, Iowa and buried in Crossville City Cemetery. He lost his life at 28 years old performing almost the same heroic acts as Alvin York. I think this young man should be remembered for his sacrifice, but outside of Cumberland County Tennessee, he's been largely forgotten. I think people should be aware of such a brave, heroic young man!

I love the story of Sgt Alvin York! It doesn't get any better than this wonderful & sweet man who was the hero of World War I.....other than the Red Baron. Ron, your love for our American wars is evident with how excited you become telling us your story. Thank you so very much, Mr Ron!!!

Wow.. never heard of that story 🤔... its like the 65th Infantry Regiment named the "The Borniqueneers" during the Korean War, and so many others great stories of heroism that are almost forgotten..awesome job keeping this and others many stories alive....stay safe 👍

Thomas York was an Air Force veteran and a Fentress County Constable who was killed in the line of duty.
There is more on this at the ODMP website.
There was another son that served as an Army officer. Alvin York volunteered for service in World War 2 but was gently declined....

I didn't realize you had filmed a segment on Alvin York until today when it popped up in my news feed. I mentioned him on the Desmond Doss video. Thanks Ron for sharing his inspiring history. RIP 🇱🇷

I feel like we still have plenty of men! young men today that have the same resolve and dedication like York! It's the American way! Deff can't compare completely but they and WW2 vets are the greatest generation ever lived! We are forever grateful for their sacrifice 🙏

I grew up in the area and it is a peaceful place to be. My ggrandfather was a dr. and he delivered several of Alvins & Miss Gracie's children (for a quarter per baby I think). I remember going to Alvin's funeral when I was a little girl because it was hot that day and there were so many soldiers there for the ceremony.

Im sure theres many great people 0ut there still doing great works. but the news and society right now seems to be fighting the Civil War. Again. Thats why I focused on the good and 10 percent on politics. Rest on peace. We all play a part. Beautiful video. I hope you do some videos on the Great people in America. We all need Heros. You are One by doing this work ..keep it up.

His sons is buried beside Sgt York. His one son was a constable and was brining a prisoner in to Jamestown. He and the prisoner and Yorks son were found shot to death on the highway half way to Jamestown.
