I bought a 2004 Ford Ranger a few years back, with only 88k original miles on it, 5 speed manual, BUT it was in terrible condition. The clear pact on the hood and roof were peeling, the bed was destroyed, the underneath was SUPER rusty, it was like they parked it in the ocean, the seats were ripped.
    Bought it for $1900.
We ended up taking the bed completely off, replaced it with a southern, rust free bed, we replaced the rear part of the frame (the old rangers have a split frame) with a southern, rust free frame, we cleaned up the entire front of the frame, and undercoated all of it with POR15. Replaced everything trust needed replaced, got a new hood so the paint didn’t look as bad.
Ditched the rotted out wheels and tires for some 31 inch all terrain tires and it looked sweet! I daily drove that thing for a few years. No issues… kind of miss it.

I work as an artist on commission for local classic car community in Belgrade and one of my main clients had a vehicle in absolutely worst condition I have ever seen, so much so that he left it as is for years before he even started work on restoration - only once he knew what he had and how valuable it is, he decided to restore it alongside his father who died before the project could be completed. It is world's only surviving Audi truck from year 1912 that Keiser Wilhelm's German army pushed into Morava river during their withdrawal from Serbia in World War 1. After 87 years in a river, you can only imagine how it looked.

When I was a detailer, we got a wholesale car come in that had bags of trash in the trunk that had been in there for a few weeks sitting in the sun. When it came into the shop to be cleaned, the entire rear end was filled with maggots. The entire spare tire area was full of maggots. It was so bad that they were even in the taillights. I had to remove everything just to get all of them out. Eventually the car was picked up by a local car dealer who had no idea what the car had been like. It was quite an experience and I will never forget it.

The owner collected only old cars....
He had a wall of old 1930s austin 7s and rubys across the back of his yard....about 8 deep and 20 long.....they sat there for years and when they cleared the yard after he passed away the cars had all collapsed into each other so they attached a chain to both ends of the pile and towed the lot as one to a waiting truck where they cut them up with a gas axe.

All the molding and clips were gone, severely rusted out floor, grille was missing all the remaining chrome was severely pitted, interior was essentially trash. He did finally get it to start, never got it on the road, I think he finally gave up, rolled it into the backyard until he donated it. Sad. But it was just too much for him.

One thing for sure, with you guys doing this , one day a customer is going to come in and say I want it as original as possible. Can you save it? And you will be able to say with confidence…Absolutely we can….I’m learning right along with y’all. Love the videos.

I was in Alabama and my dad's old friend had an old mustang, 1970s era I guess, sitting in his yard covered in pine needles. Also my grandpa has a c2 corvette that's been hidden away in his garage for at least 20 years. It probably won't ever drive again

Any tips on how to even start looking for barn finds?
Amazing transformation! Reminds me of my VW Beetle project I'm still working on!

The worst car I've seen has been my elderly neighbor's. It was covered in moss, fir needles, pollen, and crusty red spots and crusty black spots. A simple power wash got rid of everything but the crusty spots. Those resisted also sorts of cleaners including iron removers. It took me a while to find the combination of a clay bar with soapy (Dawn dish detergent) water as the lubricant to get rid of the crusties. Regular clay bar lubricant did not work very well. Today I finally got rid of stains on the paint using OxyClean gel laundry stain remover, washing that off, then using the clay bar. Those stains had resisted even straight use of Dawn dish detergent. The OxyClean was a last resort.

First time viewer -- why did you start with the outside first?

I bought a beater car for my daughter for $400.
The seats were filthy and the carpets had food stuck in them. We took out the backseat and scrubbed it then cut out the carpet. Got it all cleaned up so nice. It started and drove decent so took it for inspection. Ended up having a huge hole up in the trunk/strut area that would’ve needed professionally welded to pass so I scrapped it because the fix was going to be very expensive.
    We were so bummed out.

This Jeep doesn’t appear to be that dirty - yes it has some moss growing in the interior, but nothing that can’t be saved. This Jeep is more than a parts car. I would toss the carpets and put in some rubber flooring, switch out the seats, fix it mechanically and drive on.

This was so satisfying to watch! Do you guys also spray down and clean the engine as well? What about inside the dash/vents how do you clean in there?

Terrific job, as usual, but not a single shot of the rear of the car? I'm not a Jeep expert, but this is a CJ-7, correct? Seeing the tailgate would have solved this mystery for me.

Excellent content and results. Can you elaborate on what pad and polishing compound you used?
