The game is Blandia. It came out the same year as Street Fighter 2 but it's.... a lot worse. But I hope it's fun to watch us struggle!

This game is quite revolutionary. I've never seen a move that causes roll-back on command like this.
Perhaps future developers can experiment with more interesting properties for their moves; like a throw that sends your opponent to another region's server.
Yeah I like the idea of a projectile that lag switches

This can't be THE worst, it's visually comprehensible and there were some hype moments at the end

@@BridgetGX I've heard of Cardinal Syn but never played it. My Sega Genesis was the one bundled with Eternal Champions so I played a LOT of that. Figuring out the stage fatalities before Google was so fun. Anyway, I definitely agree that Weapon Lord would be a great choice. Very few games use Negative Edge for their special moves.

This seems like the stupid kind of game I would see in a bowling alley arcade, when I was 5, and then proceed to spend 3 hours playing it while my family screamed at me to stop playing on "screens."

this game is kinda of a pseudo sequel to an arcade called Gladiator, where on it you armor was your life, getting hit twice in the same place and you died
In Fighting Vipers it's totally fun to do so.

I can't believe that even in this game where the whole gimmick is breaking of parts of the characters' suits of armor, they still made the women super exposed. Why are designers like this...

What I love the most? The score - like 4 points at a time for...reasons. It, like the rest of the game, defies logic.

I remember this game. It's the game we played when waiting for our turn at SF2: CE. It's not a great game but it does deserve a bit of a pass as fighting games were just becoming a thing when it was released.
Gameplay is closer to the original Street Fighter (which was awful by today's standards). Same difficult inputs, same weird hit boxes, etc. There are some improvements over SF game play but were basically a generation behind SF2 despite coming out a year later (1991 vs 1992). 2 generations behind if you consider that SF2: CE came out in the same year as Blandia (1992).

@@chemicals8582 It's certainly mediocre, and the controls, feel and fighting system are overall floaty and janky, but still playable. I personally think it's terribleness is a bit overblown.
Rise of the Robots, specifically on the SNES.....man.... that game scarred me for life. Words cannot do justice to its awfulness. It's not only my measuring stick for how bad a fighting game can be, but how bad a video game can be, period.

I was actually a huge fan of this games predecessor "Gladiator". My local pizza shop had an arcade cabinet of it and I would always beg my mom to give me a couple quarters to play it. I pretty much loved anything with swords and armor back in the day!
this game looks janky as hell, but to be honest it looks worthy of a revisit in mechanics, the weapon clashing and armor system is cool!
Yeah, the armor system is actually kinda cool. Maybe a system where you focus on defending your armor but when everyone loses armor, they all die in 1-2 hits.
Except the armor system existed in soul calibur 4 onward

So, fun fact, this game is the sequel to the 1986 game Gladiator, with the playable fighter Gurianos being the protagonist of the first game.
Heavy Nova, on Sega Genesis -- makes Blandia look state of the art.
In that game, you literally can not hit your opponent if they jump or duck.
The worst feature, your robot has a response bar, and as it gets lower you have less ability to control the thing, it recharges slow as shit.
This was horrible and I loved watching every second of it.

I like the concept of not taken damage until the armor is broken. Graphically the game looks good. I think the idea is great, just not executed well. Blandia is just a poor choice for a name.
Painful game to watch but then seeing the most OP char lame it out just made it ever so more painful to watch, shame on mayo lol.
Next time you'll have to try that most IMPRESSIVE of fighting games... TIME KILLERS.

This game was so fucking wack.
- Jurane was just impossible to fight honestly. She had insane jumpins and that pillar causing rollback on demand made it impossible to even try to bait it out.
- For some reason you just randomly walk forward and backward. No clue why. Very not fun when trying to block.
- Throws are jank as fuck.
- Anti-airs are non-existent because you just clash with the opponent half the time. If you watch the stream, I attempt to fight Jurane using the classic Street Fighter zoning but it flat out didn't work because I can't anti-air.
- I don't know what's up with why throws make you teleport.
This really makes me want to see a M.U.G.E.N. tournament.

Have you guys ever had a 'Barbarian' (classic one-on-one swordplay on Commodore/ZXSpectrum/Amstrad/etc) tournament? No idea how it might stand up today, but it has epic music. :)
I dunno, complaining about the lifebars at the bottom of the screen strikes me as saying, "The car lost all four of its tires, the engine exploded, the doors fell off, it has leftover paint from seventeen different paint jobs so no one knows what color it's supposed to be, it hasn't had a windshield in 70 years, a monster truck ran over it 3500 times ... BUT OH MY GOD, LOOK AT THAT UGLY HOOD ORNAMENT!" Like, seriously?
This is nothing, you wanna try a bad fighting game, try one of these: Brudal Baddle: The Quest for Talis Ra 1994, Pray for Death 1996, Rise of the Robots 1994, Savage Warriors 1995, Xenophage: Alien Bloodsport 1996.
Saddly, my childhood was wasted on these types of games, because I never could get my hands on any good fighters so I had to play this crap, and usually the shareware or demo versions....

I was trying to figure out why his criticism of the life being at the bottom didn't make sense to me, and then I realized it's because I don't play fighting games, only Smash Bros so I prefer it being at the bottom.
This character design screams early 90's so much is unreal, i could see all those characters in Fire Emblem 4 lmao
Of course they take no damage when jumping, they have magic boots! For real though my guess is the armor system takes place on the feet too so jump ins are immune from below.
well the sprites are decent anyways, maybe someone can rip them and make a lazy Conan fighter for MUGEN or something

After the character select screen where it’s shows DIOKLES vs GURIANOS, I saw a C in diocles instead of the O and read it as DICKLES.
I mean, I may be the minority, but I prefer the lifebar at the bottom. Also, this is far from the worst fighting game. The is a D and D fighter on PlayStation I bought for $3. I thought I got a great deal. Instead I got a coaster.

I love how bad this game was. When you decapitate the victory shows: Winner (character name), Loser (headless!)... Or was it another similar bad game.

ARGH! I was so pissed watching this. I have NEVER seen a human controlled character in a fighting game as broken as Jurane. Not even Mahvel's keep-away Morrigan, one-touch Zero, or I-am-death-incarnate Dark Phoenix are that cheap. This was great fun though. Cant wait to see another one!
Not really a bad game for its time especially for 1992 standards. Whats really bad is all that cringey laughing trying to portray it as the worst game ever.

Evil Zone looks like it was easily a worse competitive game in my opinion, but it has great aesthetic value and decent writing.

the grabs in this game do so much damage, and it seems like they're untechable. I think if the meta is developed in this game there would be a lot of tick-throws and grappler style gameplans.

I couldn't agree more. Weapon Lord was awesome. I wish I would've figured out what "Negative Edge" was back when I played it as a kid. Game would've been much more fun.
The only thing i found actually interesting about this game was the armor mechanic concept, however the execution of it was BEYOND ass.

This is one of those games where a ft1 is enough. Some may say it might be too much.
I apologise crofts, I love jm cup and watch it whenever it drops but I bailed on this after the first round. As you stated Blandia is true to its name. I couldn't get through this one but there's always next time.

God, I remember discovering this game in MAME back in the day. "Oh hey, a fantasy fighting game that is basically a sequel to Gladiator, which I loved playing in arcades as a kid? Sign me up!" And that was a damn mistake... LOL Seriously though, I love seeing these videos of more obscure fighting games, I have a particular affinity for a lot of the lesser known titles out there.
