Love the Finn brothers. I saw them live as Spit Enz in NYC at the Dr. Pepper Music Festival in 1982. Their opening act was Duran Duran! I still have the ticket stub and the program. I had pictures but they're all gone now.
Oh wow. This was a B-side on one of the singles from Everyone Was Here, and I reckoned it to be the best version of this song ever recorded. Never knew it was captured on film. Fucking love random late night UA-cam discoveries.
Hi Doris Smith🌹🌹 Sorry I have to reply this late😊. I am so fortunate to have you as one of my Fan..I am currently carrying out a social media experiment, and would love to know how I have impacted my fans with what I do.. Neil Finn loves you. 😘 You can always reach me through my personal email. therealneilfinnhimself@gmail.com
i luv youtube because i wish i was there and wasnt. absolute magic. Pure class! Truly the best version I've heard of this great song. Neil and Tim together is such a treat.
I love all things Finn. Have seen both together, separate, original and new Crowed House. Too bad for them they never got the huge commercial success they deserved. But as a fan, am sorta glad, because could always see in small venues....not some arena. RIP Paul Hestor. He was a funny guy and hella drummer. Good for Neil that he will be a able to make bank off this upcoming Fleetwood Mac tour gig. Be cool if they include a Neil or CH tune. Oh thanks for posting this vid, BTW.
Neil with some tasty licks and Tim still got the chops! 😊 i love neils voice, my preference i think Tim Finn has this GOD LIKE feel and presence. He perform's that little bit Extra. Epic!!
Inspired song - if you do a remake I reckon you can improve the pronunciation of Aotearoa. But I do appreciate that this was way ahead of its time by simply using the Maori name for our beautiful country. Thanks you! :)
I am addicted to Crowded House and Split Enz, there is no one else that comes close to their talent.[maybe McCartney, but as much as i admire him the Finn songs are just so much better.]imo. Check out pour le monde by crowded house and see what i mean[ good version on later with Jools Holland [2007], think it might be the best ever.
Walter Rorschach Kovacs - The song was "discouraged from airplay" in Britain during the Falklands crisis by the BBC for reasons of morale - it was thought that references to leaky boats was not appropriate during the naval action in the war - bloody stupid reason if you ask me, but that's the BBC all over!
this should have been a massive hit in britain, which, despite a lot of airplay, it wasn't. I loved it then and still think it's one of the best pop songs ever made.
fred flintoff -The song was "discouraged from airplay" in Britain during the Falklands crisis by the BBC for reasons of morale - it was thought that references to leaky boats was not appropriate during the naval action in the war. Bloody stupid BBC
The Falklands War put the kybosh on that. It was banned by the BBC for the line "the tyranny of distance couldn't stop the Cavaliers, so why should it stop me..."
Amazing. It's possible to do both - i.e. listen AND be an enthusiastic audience, move a little, and have a good time. They are not mutually exclusive terms.
Enthusiasm and having fun is great and I have no issue with that when it is done at the right time but whooping and hollering during songs is really not okay when people have paid so much money to enjoy the artists
I worship this tune, but tims vocals on this are shite, thin and winey, spoils it for me, singing it in falsetto is bad enough, but a weak falsetto just ends up sounding like a draft under the door. Sorry.
Love the Finn brothers. I saw them live as Spit Enz in NYC at the Dr. Pepper Music Festival in 1982. Their opening act was Duran Duran! I still have the ticket stub and the program. I had pictures but they're all gone now.

Classic song, one of the best songs to come out of New Zealand. Nostalgic
What an amazing song. Nice to see the brothers playing live . Split Enz and Crowded House magnificent 😊
Oh wow. This was a B-side on one of the singles from Everyone Was Here, and I reckoned it to be the best version of this song ever recorded. Never knew it was captured on film.

Goodness gracious, thanks boys. Memories aside, this is a very fine song. Thanks again.
Tanks Tim. Thanks Neil. Real Music , Right here. Right now
the 2 voices together are just perfect, for me the male equivalent of the Abba ladies combining so beautifully.
There are no better harmonies to me than these two.
I really love this song. All that struggle the people on board had to go through. To me this is a "crying song", and I do...

Up there with Lennon / McCartney. And not many even get close.

What a couple of fantastic Australians they are. I listen to this song while eating pavlova and doing a haka. Does it get more Australian than that?
Yes...they are NOT aussies but kiwis.
@@Sergiovsousa Don't be silly, it's in the name, Split Enz. Australia is a nation of hairdressers.
I see what you did there. Very ironic.

I couldn't agree more! Time On Earth was actually my favourite Crowded House album and Pour Le Monde is a masterpiece
I love XTC, had all their records
R.E.M. Losing my religion
awesome six months in a leaking boat
peter newlands .......”leaky”.
Love this song so much! It should have been top of the charts in the UK too but the BBC banned it. certainly better than I Got You

It is only natural to enjoy The Finns

Neil Finn - Guitar Hero! :-)
Great
Pretty tight!
To think this song was spurred by Tim reading a book about early sea-faring called “The Tyranny of Distance”
3:47
I absolutely love the first 5 seconds of this song..the rest is damm fine also!
I assume this is a Seaward metaphor for a rocky relationship.
and i didnt really miss out.!?!?
lol same, it really stuck
How did this song not top the charts? Yet bullshit *artist* churn out rubbish that stays for a month
no way dude I totally disagree fucking love this performance, but you're clearly a fan and so I respect your opinion rock on
hell yeah
0:00-0:02
...and the great Jeremy Stacey on drums.
Mickey
Yep. He was great
when she comes
This song needs Eddie Rayner.
Tim's voice is getting worn, but still OK.
Love the Finns but any time I see them the crowd are terrible.
oh you are oldddddddddeee
You'll probably find they've come to listen to the artist (not you or your like)
Amazing. It's possible to do both - i.e. listen AND be an enthusiastic audience, move a little, and have a good time. They are not mutually exclusive terms.

Mike - it's time to live a little.
