Ben Affleck, Matt Damon & Nicole Holofcener Break Down 'The Last Duel' Script | Vanity Fair - Розваги
This movie was incredible. Really disappointing that it didn’t attract an audience. Jodie Comer is amazing and deserves all the awards.
Unfortunately in the current superhero movies era, grown up movies like The Last Duel aren't in demand. I'm glad I watched it.
@@moviefan700 I know. I’m one of those people that love all film genres. I like superhero movies but I also like movies like this one that are serious and about real life. It seems like a-lot of people aren’t as diverse in regards to their film interest these days.
@@moviefan700 pretty sure it was the lack of advertising that fox did...
Fox has always been a lot backhanded on promotions now
@@moviefan700 The branding or brand management of superhero movies are at its apotheosis for the last decade or a score. Hard to beat this superhero monopoly like EDM/Hip-Hop in music(I mean both superhero movies & EDM/Hip-Hop music are amazing but the other genre's in their domain largely get ignored).
@@crazydirtyml Exactly. The other movies being ignored is the problem
Jodie really just delivers those lines to perfection, wow

You never fully realise how big Batfleck really is in real life until he is standing next to other people.
I mean Ben and matt have a nice 5-6 inches difference
I'll never be able to forget what Henry Cavill said about Ben while working during BvS when an interviewer ask him about his physicality and dude straight away said "Ben is a large man" and we can see that here.
Ben is even taller than Henry Cavill
@@lazerbeam6746 Ben is MUCH taller then henry

Hope more people really watch great movies.
I regret watching it. So you're wrong
@@thomasmcginnis7526 Where's the fork to stick in it.
While this movie may not be for everyone, it's message most certainly is. This film would have lost it's power entirely had this screenplay been written in any other way. Beautiful film, mesmerizing acting, and incredible directing. See it in theaters, you won't regret it.
"the message" was the worst part by far about this film. heavy handed feminist nonsense that is a character assassination on the historical figure of jean de carrouges
@@Shorjok widen your horizon please, feminism is needed for every individual in this world.
@@Bjjbhcoa86 feminism is cancer. i only realised that -after- widening my horizons.
@@Shorjok No, it really isn't. It is just about equality. Anything that is done in the name of it that contradicts that, is simply not in favour of it.
This is one of the greatest films I’ve seen in a very long time. Everyone knocked it out of the park, including Jodie and Matt who were clearly the standouts. It deserves to be seen by everyone-you won’t regret watching this!
I agree, one of the best medieval films I’ve seen since Kingdom of Heaven in 2005.
It's a viewpoint of the 1300's through the lens of a woke feminist in 2021, no wonder it bombed
Jodie is so beautiful in the movie, she delivered a terrific performance
They were smart getting Nicole, knowing they would not be able to give Margarite the proper POV that she needed.
It's a feminist movie
@@madcyborg1822 so? Lmao
I think she did right by it. People tend to gloss over Marg in this story.
@@simonriley4131 modern feminism is basically trying to make women superior to men, that is not okay. This movie took a story and made it a woke movie about toxic masculinity.
Ridley Scott is in general an idiot, so I'm not surprised that he went woke. I'm glad no one cares about this trash movie.
@@madcyborg1822 you are blinded by your ignorance
Nicole is so sweet, I wish there was an extended version of this video where she’d talk more about her screenwriting approach!
Link of that video , pls
the ironic part is, she barely got to talk in this video. Just like the character she wrote for
I liked the simple language they used, it was evocative of the French language even though the dialogue was in English; and that was a more original choice than just having everyone speak with British accents when they are supposed to be speaking medieval Norman.
Everyone go see this movie in theatres, it's an incredible film, never seen anything like it! Phenomenal acting, loved the story structure.
This film was breathtaking - Ben & Matt are so talented & I love that Nicole was brought on to this project to offer a different perspective
This has been a shockingly underrated film. Folk's DON'T miss it! It tells a gripping tale and forces you to question everything and everyone in the story in a way no story like this has. 👍👍
Ben's final sentiment is the TRUTH.
It isn't enough to pursue what you love, you must pursue it surrounded by love.
more script breakdowns i beg you! I need these as a beginner screenwriter/director.
In a perfect world Jodie Comer would get all the attention, recognition, and praises she deserves for her subtle, nuanced, poignant, utterly brilliant and beautiful performance in 'The Last Duel'. It's a crime how much she's been overlooked this award season.
This movie is a must-watch! Highly recommend!

Agree
The industry needs more videos like this. Lessons to teach, explanations of why certain things happen, techniques and experiences to express and show off. This is such a lovely video
The boys are nervous. They took a big risk.
The movie itself is a masterpiece;
but it's not a people pleaser in any way, it challenges power, and as Big Media becomes an industrial monopoly, we can expect more 'blockbuster fast-food' and less of the 'finer things in life'.
That's what indy is for.
Exactly, the comments like to point at superhero movies as to why it failed at the box office. But this people pleaser media used to be in the shape of a heist, western, thrillers, and fictional biopics. I couldn't agree more as to the job indies have to be less of a crowd pleaser film.
It's a viewpoint of the 1300's through the lens of a woke feminist in 2021, no wonder it bombed

More of these! Fantastic insight into a method that the audience really knows nothing about thank you!
Brilliant video! Every facet of this film is top notch. Real quality on display. Support it in the theater. I'm so glad I saw it on the silver screen and I'd love to see it again. Powerful stuff.
Y'all did Ben dirty with that thumbnail lol
One of my favorite movies of the year! The action is raw and visceral and the drama is truly compelling! Amazing performances by Ben, Matt. Jodi, and Adam. 👏👏
Excellent film, had me gripped all the way through. And those fight scenes! Visceral AF.
Jodie outshined everyone in this.
EXCELLENT SCRIPT, and this was perhaps Affleck's best acting... ever. Surprisingly good.
Such a great project! Kudos to everyone involved. I enjoyed so many aspects of this film, and ultimately the fine lines and questions that arise after taking it in to be genius.
This movie was great. Looking forward to seeing it again.
If you love Ridley Scott epics like Robin Hood and Gladiator (2 of my very favorites) then you will love this movie. If you like Jane Austen books and movies, you will love this film. If you like costume dramas you will love this film. It is really really good
Such a shame it flopped at the box office. I really enjoyed this movie, and most that did watch enjoyed it. I don't know what went wrong in the marketing, but all involved in this should be proud of the final product.
Disney dropped the ball. Bad next to nothing marketing
There was no marketing, idk why
It was because the marketing promoted it as a woke movie and most of the general movie goers and film enthusiasts are conservative, not liberal. It's a shame, because this film was great.
@@wisco9er536 conservatives hate Hollywood. Every movie is woke to them.
I remember project Greenlight with Ben and Matt.. just great insights in to the world of filmmaking trying to help the younger generations of creators. Thanks guys for making a difference.
i caught myself holding my breath during the end of the movie, just amazing!
Looks like I’m also going to be burned at the stake if thinking Adam Driver is hot is all it takes
I'm still confused whether Adam Driver is actually hot or if that's just a meme I don't get.
@@ktoth29 Adam driver is hit that's a fact
It was such an experience...a true storytelling...excellent performances and phenomenal writing. I can't figure out how people unnoticed this gem, go watch it people
I traveled 120 KM to watch the first show, loved it.
Amazing movie....loved it! Thanks guys. 👍✌🙏
As soon as the film premiere in my country, I’ll go watch it! Really looking forward to it!
Waiting for the film to be released where I'm at. Love the book the film based on and by all I've seen so far the film is doing justice to the source materials.
What a great movie. Nobody's perfect and everything is subjective.
Who's Nicole Holofcener's mother?
*checks Wikipedia* Carol Joffe, a set decorator with two Oscar nominations. Yeah, she seems like a good person to go to for feedback on a script.
Wow! Did not know that! Talented individuals in a talented family
That was way too short and Nicole didn’t talk much.
She’s normally a very shy person during interviews. She is a writer after all. Lol
I'm really really sad knowing such a masterpiece film bombed. I hope more people watch this film coz not many directors willing to make this kind of film nowadays. Less CGI, more practical effect, excellent dialogues and performances. It makes me sad. The Last Duel definitely my top ten films of 2021.
I just watched this movie last night. I strongly recommend you all see this film. It's a brutal film that resonates with modern audiences.
This is an amazing film and to see the collaboration between writers, actors, and directors is truly fascinating. Jodie Comer gave a stellar performance. I saw it with a friend on Christmas and it was quite a treat.
I just experienced this movie the other night and loved it! It’s one of those find yourself thinking about days later.
I saw this last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it !
It looks awesome. Can’t wait when it comes out on Amazon Prime or HBO MAX
Can’t wait to see it!
The amount of insider knowledge here is incredible. Thank you!
I would pay gold to read this script!
Blockbuster scripts end up online pretty fast when the movie’s released.
I wish more people saw this movie. It was truly great!
Thoughtful, intelligent, well spoken, talented people. Thank you.
How ridiculous times we live that people go in masses to watch wonder woman as an example of what a brave woman should be and pass on a real story of a real brave woman that nobody knows about
Also don’t miss the duelist ridleys superb first film
Great movie. Ridley Scott uses a kind of darkness. It's so good to see Affleck and Damon back writing and acting together. I hope more is yet to come.
The Tender Bar and The Last Dual were great !!
Very exciting to find out they worked on the screenplay when the credits rolled. Very solid flick. Freakin box office tho. I hope there is some justice come awards season
The fact that this movie did not get the attention it deserves is just a crime
Excellent film. Enjoyed it immensely.

Just watched it. Freaking amazing film!!
amazing movie, great screenplay!
this movie is a good adaptation. However, The most disturbing thing about all the medieval drama was that it can apply to modern days...
When I finished to watch the movie I had this weird feeling that sociaty doesn't change anything in woman's rights, it's been 700 years since.
Completely agree.
It's definitely the point of the movie.
@@KosakiJag it's defintely not supposed be the point. I am a historian so I can read between the lines quite well. But what is more plausible is that the point is to show how far women have come in society that they were once not even a free person but a thing a man owned and could do with as he pleases just as u see with Jean. How ignorant and pridefull he is towards fighting jacques while thinking of his wife as his own and not really thinking of his wife and kid. But I would not say women have not come very far within the past 700 years😂😂. I am sorry but thats just a joke. Maybe 100 years ago u could have made that statement... that in 600 years they haven't come very far. Then I would say u are right...
@@kaphamenskendee7428 Just look what is happening in Afghanistan right now
Thats what Scott was trying to do showing us a social issue thats been around for centuries and yet today we havent found a way to erradicate
Very interesting video, great movie too. More people should support it
One of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time
Lol, I was right in my assumption that Ben initially was supposed to play Adam's character in the film but was changed. 😅 Anyways, this was such an incredible film!!! The set was amazing, the direction, the action/battle scenes, the idea of different perspectives, and the incredible performances by the casts!!! Really sad that it didn't get the recognition it deserved to have, particularly in theaters as well. Go watch it if you can through streaming platforms!
Once of the best films I have ever scene. Go and watch it in theatres!

this movie is absolutely epic in every way
A brilliant movie. I just watched it last night. A shame it was affected by the pandemic
Movie was something we hardly see nowadays. Great film.
I’m so lucky to be a woman born in this day and age. What women had to go through back then is tragic
You are so Handsome😍😍😍and looking Hot 🔥🔥🔥Ben Affleck
Was a good movie, thanks guys!
this insight into the writing process was more interesting than any interview or question asked by any lame basic reporter!
This movie was so good!
It was a great movie. I watched it last week.
This was so good. I just turned it on to keep me a company while I fold the clothes. Ch1, half of the clothes folded; ch2, only half of the clothes folded; ch3, I am mesmerized and observed in the story that I forgot all about anything else. Just watch it please. It's very good!
Wish I could see this.
Incredible film.
This movie certainly did and excellent job making you uncomfortable in the theatre. Though I think I may be one of the only people to have watched it in theaters 😂
Loved this movie 👏
This movie was so excellent!
Thank you thank you thank you.
Cute conversation between friends
Released yesterday in India and I completely enjoyed the journey, those subtle changes in narration reveal what these characters really are and their inner voices. What an excellently written, brilliantly produced movie. Ridley Scott is truly a master in directing the genre.
I wait for this movie to play at my country
The film is a Masterpiece , I believe the reason why this film wasn't a success at the box office was because of its subject matter , but if you've seen the film it's so much more than that , the last duel was also up against other big tentpole films like Venom let their be carnage , Halloween kills , No time to die at the box office and audiences picked what they were familiar with even if those films are terrible , I Also think age demographics had a role to play with the box office , younger audiences are seeing films at the cinema where as older audiences are still hesitant because of covid , I hope that with time the last duel becomes a cult classic because it really is great
It's a viewpoint of the 1300's through the lens of a woke feminist in 2021, no wonder it bombed
3rd act is the best part of the film.
matt demon, adam driver and jodie comer all deserve oscar for this movie. one of the best movie in a very long time
I can't wait to see this. Love everyone involved as they are all so talented so it should be great.
3:17 i think that would actually amplify the story though, because in it, le gris and carrouges started as a good friend.
One of the best films last year. Really didn't get the recognition it deserves.
I loved it, but I think the cinematography missed a trick by shooting this movie in a muted color through out. How cool would it have been if the three parts had different color tones? For example if Act I was washed out, Act II was vibrant, Act III in natural lighting. It would underscore Damon as the oaf, Driver as the charmer, and Comer as the clear eyed.
not a horrendous idea. kinda obvious though.
Nah lol
You forgot they could use yellow tint when they go to Mexico.
wonderful, underrated movie
I am here for the writing. It was crazy. Although, as someone who was sexually assaulted, a warning to anyone who will watch this movie. It was a bit difficult.
