On my own two 99s one in 22 and the other in 177 and what I did to my two was start by giving the barrel a good pull through and then open them up remove all working parts and completely de grease do the spring ends nice an smooth a man-made spring guide regrease with Molly less is more put it all back to gather. And then go to your local gun smith and they have to be good and thread the barrel and re crown and then goes a good moderator I use HW mod and it's very quiet no spring noises and it is 11.2ftlbs there a good rifle
Greetings from a Yank living in Thailand. Yours is the first review I've ever seen that actually fired shots with and without a moderator and measuring the db level with a meter. Frankly, because of the way our ears work (a 3db increase is considered 2X as loud) the moderator, although causing a 9db reduction, didn't make the sound APPEAR to lower by all that much. I could notice a slight reduction in the noise level, but quite frankly, not enough (for me) to justify the added expense of the moderator. Other than that the sound was well recorded Overall, I enjoyed your review, and THANK YOU for giving the specs in both metric and the SAE (American) units without condescension or sneering. [A mature attitude is always appreciated.] I liked your home-made target (I use cut-up pizza-boxes myself...lol,) and the simple but BRILLIANT step of labeling the target areas with the type of pellet being shot at each one. Being able to SEE, especially with a long-time shot (while you kept speaking) of which pellet produced whcih type of groups was/is WAY better than someone shooting at a target, using perhaps 3-5 types of pellets, and then just showing the target and pointing to each group, and quickly rattling off which was which. You have a calm and personable manner, honest and straight-forward. Overall, a well done review. Thanks for taking the time to create and share it. Cheers!
Wow, thank you for taking the time to give such a detailed and positive feed back. Im really pleased you enjoyed my video, it has given me much enthusiasm to make more in the future :) Again many thanks for watching. I really appreciate your response.
Had mine in 177 since mid December 2020. Its an awesome rifle after I fitted a Hawke fast mount 3-9x40 AO scope using RWS Superdome field line pellets. From 10 to 40 yards its as accurate at the range as the guys using PCP stuff...
I find mine a real pleasure to own. Ive made some awesome shots with it, and it always puts a smile on my face when i use it... I always think considering its hws cheapest rifle, theres not a lot left to be desired. Many thanks for watching 👍👍
@@airriflesuk5997 mine is still hard to cock too btw! Did you have to file the sight grooves to fit the adaptor? I was thinking of fitting silencer to make the cocking easier and using the silencer as a grip to cock it.
Decided to get one of these yesterday as I wanted a replacement grab and shoot gun for the unwanted vermin which make their way into my garden. I had been looking on a local gun shop web as they had one in at £239 which I thought was about the average price but the following day when I was going to buy it they had ramped the price to £279!! and that was that they’d lost a sale. But then I remembered that the local farm and garden supplies in Northallerton North Yorkshire called Sam Turner sell guns but they don’t advertise them on their website so I popped through and they did stock them and at £210!! and they threw in a tin of lead too. They’ don’t have many guns but I believe they can source most makes if required. So if anyone is after a 99s they still have them in stock but in 22 only at the moment. They also sell shooting clothing by all well known brands at very competitive prices. Keep safe all in these very testing times and shoot straight.
Absolute bargain at that price ! Thankfully you never coughed up the extra to the original place... Worth every penny either way. Thanks for the comments fella 👍
@@Mirpurmad if you look online buddy there are some dealers who deliver to your door nationwide, I’m not naming any but just type in airguns delivered to your door and you’ll be surprised.
Me and my son brought a HW99S each last month. My 1st air rifle for 40 years. Got it in .22 with a Hawk 3-9-40 AO scope. Only put nearly half a tin through it but really pleased with it. Accurate and easy to cock. Cant wait for ranges to open back up!
@John Conlan Really great rifle to start back up with again. I mean yes they can have minor issues in some cases but overall a really decent rifle for the money. Will out last you both if taken care of ;) Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
I bought one of these in .22cal and I'm not disappointed. I took the first 5 shots with RWS Super H Point 14.2gr pellets using the iron sights on an A4 size target at ~6m (started close just in case the sights needed lots of adjustment). My second shot landed 1/2" to the right of the first, the following three shots went through the first pellet hole. I think my jaw dropped for a moment which turned into a big cheesy grin.
Lmao nice ! I had a simular experience with mine. I find it more accurate than my tx as its more easy to hold due to less weighf etc etc. The amount of times ive aimed at something with mine and the pellet has landed exactly where i was aiming is countless. Such a superb little rifle for the money. Admitedly they are a lot more expensive than they used to be but thats not hw fault in the slightest. We can thank the greedy gov for all the price hikes in recent years. Any road. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
@@urbangunsurgeon I can't remember exactly what I paid for mine new, £220, £230 something like that. Given the quality, the ideal size/weight and how well it shoots it was well worth it.
Ive heard nothing but good words about the tbt drop in kit paired with these rifles. I cant rem if i mention it in the review or not but ive got 1 kicking about for mine that ive still not got round to fitting lol... Unfortunately for me i have kind of fell out of love with the hobby. I recently sold a few of my rifles as i had more than i knew what to do with. Was very surprised to see how much has changed in the past few years since i last looked in on the scene at my local rfd... But having said all that, i made sure i kept all my hw's in the collection. Never known quality like em ;) Many thanks for watching Julian 👍 Stay safe
Got one a few months ago in 22 and I love it! Such a nice size and weight and after more than 1000 shots it just seems to keep shooting smoother and also it has stopped smelling(dieseling perhaps?) Now I just want to get a scope for it because my eyes don’t seem to get on with open sights anymore and I think a lot of accuracy is wasted. Also I just love looking at it, the way the metal is finished and blued it just looks like great quality.
yep awesome gun very harsh out of the box but with a good tune up they are smooth as silk. the crunchy bit when cocking is the piston grinding on the top of the cylinder. takes a bit of work to sort it. oh and they are very quite when tuned also hardly any recoil. if you can polish and set the trigger unit you can get it match type. mine is a one hole machine at 30 yrds i use jsb 4.53.
Great Vid went out and bought one yesterday the .22 version haven't had a play with it yet(inclement weather conditions) but can't wait to put a few through it,got a Hawke 3-9x40 on the top and a factory moderator many happy days to come I hope. Thanks Man! your video swayed it for me.
Yea ive not been out in ages due to lots of things but the waether has played a big part in it. Every time i look to go out it starts to rain... One day ill have a massive back yard and then it wont matter lol... I hope you enjoy it fella. Very tidy rifle for the money. Thanks for watching and stay safe :)
yes the HW99s is a fantastic rifle mine is in 22 cal the trigger Rekord is far better than a lot of live round rifles have fitted I have tuned mine with a Welsh Willy D.I.Y Tuning kit was doing with two power washers [ 11.5 ft/lbs ] but I have taken one out now and it is running at a nice [ 10.7ft/lbs ] I am using Bisley LRG 14.7gns and fitted a silencer the same as you did , but I filled down the ridges to take the 15mm silencer fitting. great video
Sounds like you know what your doing chap. Its a great past time no !? Im yet to test anything bisley... for some reason my rfd dont want to sell them to me. Thank you for your response. Happy shooting chap 👍👍👍
Hi Harry. I had the grating scenario when 1st had the rifle back until it bedded in ( about 1/2 tin of pellets) but I can honestly say it shoots as well as my AA Pro Sports . Using Bisley mags the rifle is my truck gun and over all I'm very impressed the rifle and the Vortek tune. I've had the Venom drop on kits and the TB kits fitted to both my TX's but I much prefer the Vortek ...highly recommended
Most people I know, including myself, have had galling issues with these. If you fire 50 pellets through it one after another & you can't hear any grinding or roughness in cocking, you're probably OK. Put "HW99 galling" in Google search, & you'll see what I mean. It's such a shame these guns eat themselves from the inside out, because they're great otherwise.
Thanks Andy. I will be keeping an eye on the power level as i do with all my rifles old and new. I plan to take it out into the field for my next vid so fingers crossed i get on all right. I reckon i will 👍

It's quite common with Weihrauchs to have to file the groves on the barrel grooves when fitting a slip-on, that's why you couldn't get the 15mm adapter on.
Hi Rob, thank you for the good advise, i hope others see this before they do what i did and go force 1 on, in hindsight taking a file to it first would have been a much better option lol. Ill know for the future now... Many thanks for taking the time to comment, it was most appreciated. Stay safe 🙏
Thanks for the feed back. I appreciate that 👍 Yes im half way through making it. I went out with it a few days ago and have half the footage i need for a vid... Ahould be ready by the weekend. All the best 👍👍👍
This will not be a popular comment but i have to say it. Something i would change about this rifle is the rubber but stock. It is a catchy, sticky type of rubber that catches on my jacket when i shoulder the rifle and that gets in the way. I don't think it needs a rubber butt stock, because there isn't a lot of recoil that it can absorb and you dont need to hold the butt tight into the shoulder with this rifle. If you hold it very very lightly into the shoulder you get better accuraccy because of the double recoil. A smooth straight edge made of wood or something slippery that wouldn't catch on the jacket would make more sense. But it seems to be fashionable to have a rubber butt stock for air rifles so i don't suppose it will change.
And another thing i would change is i would have a1/2 inch thread on the muzzle to take a normal silencer! The clip-on weihrauch silencer looks rubbish and is too expensive.
No thats fair doo's. Each to their own i say... Ive had a that problem a few times myself over the years. Very annoying, and only gets worse during winter as you have even more layers on so your even more likely to catch it all the time lol... Yea them mods are just far to expensive imo too 👍👍
Hi, enjoyed your video, just purchased a new HW99 and found your information about the silencer adaptor very interesting. I was wondering how you overcame the difference in diameter at the end of the barrel. Did it cause any wobble or misalignment? Also do you cock the rifle using the silencer or just the barrel?
well I've had the .22 version for 2 months now and have to say I bloody love it , the accuracy (using a nikko 3x9-40 AO scope) is second to none , i'm off to the Atherton range next weekend to see how it does at long range targets , the last couple of days there has been some grinding when cocking , after removing the stock I found it was the groove the cocking shoe slides down that needed lubing , gonna clean it this week and put some bisley molly grease in ther , that should sort it out , thanks for the vid mate , much appreciated ;) …. ( btw , rws superdomes and the AA fields are its preferred pellets )
Another super happy 99s owner ! Have heard there very smooth in .22 Plus its the cal used for making the sfs IMP... Mines started to do the same. Thats not a bad idea that. Im thinking i shall do the same. I also have a tbt kit that needs fitting so ill perhaps have a go at that 2. Many thanks for watching 👍👍
@@harrybatt998 yea , had to wipe the cocking slot and regrease 5 times but its perfect now , it seemed to come back after 20 or 30 shots , since then its been perfectly smooth , so just keep wiping the slot and greasing untill the grinding dissapears [)
Looks great. We don't see the 99 in the States at our dealers. We see the HW98, HW97K, HW80, HW90 more. On the ranch outside, you don't hear the report on spring-piston rifles. You hear the spring. I had an adapter which didn't match a rifle. It did fit my Dianawerks old M-34, and a donnyfl, koi suppressor. Looks nice like your rifle. I noticed it did quiet the report a little. Hey, 760fps is a good speed to shoot. My 97k feels like it does about that on 8.64gr H&N. Good demonstration on sound and speed.
Seems strange your FAD not recommending Bisley LRG found them to be extremely accurate in the HW99s .22cal and last year I tested out the Kaiser 14.66gn a Daystate favourite another extremely accurate pellet
Same with mine. LRG are like lightening out of this gun and go through anything. People are always recommending magnum and heavy pellets, I don't know why. Springers are better with light weight pellets.
@@rexbarton3958 Have you experienced the common problem of galling with your HW99? It presents itself as grinding & roughness during cocking - IE the cocking shoe eating tram lines into the compression chamber tube.
Hi Mate Awesome review well done, 👍 just a quick question about the scope on the 99, in particular the reticle, i think that its a 10x mildot. and just wondering how good is it? Is it a bit thin, so hard to see in trees-for example- or low light? Have you had any problems with it? And is it good for hunting? thanks Fred
Hi, I've just this rifle in .177 calibre . Very impressed with the overall performance and handling.im going to run a couple of tins of Bisley mags through it ( seems to like those best) then I may strip it down to degrease and clean off any excess lube and rough edges then lube with abbey grease hopefully reduce Spring noises a bit. Regards Alan ( new sub)
Hi Alan. Congrats on the purchase. Just dont do what i did and take the first tin that groups well at close range lol, i think i said in the review id settled on airs fields, well it turns out that past 25 meters they was all over, so in the end i settled on jsb heavy... It ruddy loves them lol And yes i have recently taken delivery of a tbt drop in kit so once fitted i will be making more vids explaining the difference etc etc. Thank you very much for the sub. I really appreciate it. Stay safe fella 👍👍👍
Air Rifles UK o Hi, I've had my 99 Vortek tuned by Tony Burton. Highly recommend his kit/work. Shoots as well as my Pro Sport ( using Bisley Mags) . It's my go to truck rifle. Regards Alan
Hi, how did you find attaching the mod adapter, on js ramsbottom they say the 15.5 won't fit any barrels with sight grooves, obviously it does. How has has it held accuracy etc. Can you cock the gun using your moderator or is that pushing ones luck? Thanks. Hw one is overpriced imo too.
It was a real pain in the ass if im honest. I neglected to file anything down so i was a case of forcing it on. In hindsight i wish i ld gone about it differently as i can no longer take it back off lol. Accuracy wise the rifle is still just as good as it ever was. You can use it to cock the rifle with added leverage with zero problems. Many thanks for taking the time to comment. Stay safe fella 🙏
@@airriflesuk5997 Thanks for the reply. Well filing off material is something I want to avoid as it buggers up use of the front site if you ever want to use them again. Probably your thoughts too. I've ordered a 15.5mn muzzle break for looks and to aid cocking. (Thought a moderator would add a bit too much length). May be best to grease it first and push on carefully when it arrives. 👍
I've just got this rifle in .22 for my birthday and am yet to use it but I'll be trying it out in one day, but I would like to know about how hard cocking the gun is? This is my first gun and I'm quite a thin build around 5'7 thanks in advance
@@urbangunsurgeon Have you experienced the common galling problem on yours mate? It shows itself as roughness/grinding upon cocking & creates a grating sound. Basically, the cocking shoe rubs tram lines into the compression tube slowly eating itself.
@@jakep7749 It's hard to cock when the galling starts, which it does in probably 8 out of 10 rifles. On the UK Airgun forum, Airgunbbs, there are 100s of posts about the problem.
Hi. I am looking at getting a Hw99s but I am unsure as to what calibre to get. It will be mainly for target shooting but would like bag the odd rabbit and pigeon too. Have you had any problems with the .177 as I have been told they are a bit snappy and harsh?
Id suggest a .177 But no mine is a tidy little bit of kit. The shot cycle is smooth. I got it new so when i first used it, it seemed a little harsh but after about 500 pellets it settled down 👍
Air Rifles UK just picked up a Hw99s .177. Lovely little rifle. It is a bit twangy but I am hoping this will calm down and shoot a little smoother after a couple of tins of pellets have been fired threw. Please could you send a link to the silencer adapter. How is it attached as there is no threading on the barrel? Thank you for your reply
@@adamwood2796 yes at first all Springers feel like that... It will calm down after a few tins ;) No there's no threading on the end of the barrel, the adapter is fitted and secured on via grub screws. Air Rifles UK thank you mate. Much appreciate your help. Is it best to put the 15.5 on or file the end and put the 15mm on? Does it come lose after a while? I have been quoted £30 for a threaded barrel and didn’t know if I should just get that done.
@@adamwood2796 if you can get the barrel threaded then get that done, would make life so much easier in the long run ;) Urm... The 15.5 does tend to come lose over time, the 15.0 need the barrel to be filed a little ;)
HW95 is a great rifle I have one. Very smooth and laser accurate. I'm after an HW99s though as an open sight rifle. Can't beat going back to basics on some tin cans now and again!
@@samfletcher93 That's exactly what I was thinking when I bought a HW99S 22cal recently. I like using the iron sights for plinking and targets at close range, it keeps the rifle light, it's a challenge to shoot small groups and quite enjoyable with that old school uninterrupted sight picture. I might fit a sling but that's about it.
@@Beesa10 So now I've got my HW99s in .177. I had to build up the front sight a little to help me get a better sight picture. But it's absolutely incredible I've been hitting spinners with it maybe 40mm diameter at 20 yards. It's great.
I bought a.22 version last year and love it. The one aspect of your video I would appreciate more input on is the 15.5mm moderator adapter. Granted that with the sight grooves left intact, the end of the barrel is 15.5mm, but the adapter is longer than that, so would be wider than the rest of the barrel it covered. Did you use any kind of shim or tape on that part of the barrel to compensate for the difference?
If i remember rightly the whole thing was a bit of a faff. I firstly bought an adapter that was 16mm, to allow for the sights etc, but when it arrived it turned out to be too big, so i could never get it to nip up tightly enough to be properly secure. So i returned to ebay (seller js ramsbottom btw) to purchase an adapter of 15.5mm. And when that arrived it turned out to be too tight ! So by this point i got kinda cheesed off with it all and just "forced" it on with some gentle persuasion by way of a rubber mallet. Ill be further honest by saying i can not for the life of me get it back off again now so its on forever now lol, and in hindsight i wish id just dug a little deeper and payed for the proper hw mod as when all said an done ive payed 1000's for other rifles alone yet the 99 is picked up for a score yet there i was messing around with after market adapters when i could have just got a proper job by hw and still been all in for less than 300 notes. I will also say tho, its super accurate and i dont really regret owt as i dont ever intend to sell it :) Thanks for watching !
@@airriflesuk5997 I really appreciate that feedback. I bought the Guntuff 15.5mm shortly after my post above and it did fit, but out of the packet only where it touched. I padded the barrel with some good quality electrical tape to achieve a uniform diameter with the front sight grooves for the length of the adapter and, coupled with a touch of hairspray on the inside of the adapter, it "screwed" on nicely and, the hairspray having dried, is a firm fit without the need for tightening the two grubscrews. I've put a 100 or so pellets through it since and the fit is straight and true. I also added a rear sight holes blanking plate produced by an airgunforum member, which just adds the finishing touch. Great air rifle.
I had mine threaded and put a HW moderator, and iron sights was not a option for me, I scoped it up and was very accurate as you say shooting like a PCP great rifle that can out shoot many bigger people named and you could walk all day never tried, slugs in the 99s 177, my 35e in 177 loves them I might try them in 99s and in 177 could be fun as my 35e then going to zero the 99s at ,35yards could be fun I decided to get them the RFD to do it and when pick up there was a little extra to pay on the bill there gun smith is good just looking at the threads perfect every half turn. Then back half turn and well done and we'll lubed he opened the chokes on my shot gun to 1/2 and 3/4 and watching a man at his job testing to get it it right and his brass choke tester and show my self the results and made my shotgun alot better

Along with a very loud muzzle crack and then smoking barrel to boot. Im sure we have all done it at some point with a tatty old some thing or other. Not a great idea if your pistol/rifle is already putting out the legal limit though 🤯
Not sure as mine is in .177 But i would imagine its the exact same size as .22 The outer diameter of the barrel on both calibre is the same as far as i know. Go for a 15.5mm

The Barrel is 15mm not 15.5mm. In order to get a 15mm adapter to fit, you need to file down the very slightly raised front sight mounting grooves A 15.5mm adapter will cause misalignment.
Nice review, pal! I recently got one in .22 and it shoots nicely out the box. How do you remove the front iron sights though?! I took out the small screw but they're still clamped tightly onto the little grooves at the end of the barrel, and no amount of force seems to budge them 🤔
Thank you. If i rem rightly, i stuck a screw driver down the gap and lever'd the sights apart a little so they could come un clamped from the groves of the end of the barrel 👍

@@airriflesuk5997 haha green aaarmy! Ah so you've picked up thr twang over the years then! I'm from Truro in comrwall originally but have been living in jammer land for 30 years. Yeah my dad spoke the guys down at PTT and they said orders of new weihrauch guns is up to 8 months due production or shipping issues or summat! Crazy! I've actually bought a used webley stingray with silencer etc and a 3-12x50 hawke scope. I was totally obsessed with air rifles and shooting as a kid up until I got 18 and discovered alcohol!! But me and my dad have recently rekindled our love or air rifle shooting again and the obsession has just started where it left off 25 years ago! Just need to find permission for somewhere to shoot as the permissions we had 20 years ago have probably expired haha!
Hi there, love this little rifle it's just great quality along with incredible accuracy I'm actually picking mine up soon as far as your fps and ft lb figures you were close but not quite correct the actual figures are ave fps was 755.57 and the average ft lbs. 10.7 hope you didn't mind me correcting you how you calculate an average of something is write all the shot speeds down add them up and divide by the number of shots taken in this case 10 once you have the average fps number you times it by itself then times it by the pellet weight then divide by 450240.thats the magic number that will give you the Ave ft lbs i hope you can understand that ok atvb Dave
Hi fella, sorry for the late reply. No i dont mind you saying at all. In all honesty im aware of the method you mentioned, i was just being lazy and hoping to get away with it. Yep the 99 over a shite-ning any day of the week. Don't over look the HW57 either. In my view a unfairly maligned and criminally under appreciated rifle. *CRAP GAME*
Awesome rifles. Ive had mine just over an year now & its the .22 one.. Always been brilliantly acurrate but was a bit twangy at first so I Fitted a tbt kit after about a thousand rounds & wow the action has no twang at all & the recoil is minimal. You say its hard to cock? I can cock mine with one finger.lol I only did it once though coz I saw a guy on you tube do it & I wanted to see if it was true.lol.

Yes very much so. Mine has nailed well over 12 pigeons so far. Admittedly ive only taken it out pest controlling twice but it performed superbly both times i did. Its super light weight compared to many other springers but packs a full power punch. I love mine and will keep it forever. I also said that about my tx200hc but man was that thing heavy ! Yes they can be a tad noisy. I have to ask tho, but is your 99 brand new, as if so its guna need some time to bed itself in. You want to put at least 2 tins through it before you do anything drastic. And having said all of that, its generally recognised that these rifles really benefit from a drop in kit. Ive got 1 for mine but yet to fit the dam thing. 1 thing i will say is how accurate mine is, even with the galling issue and the noise etc etc. For the money, imo you cant beat em. But any road, many thanks for watching 👌
Other than that the sound was well recorded
Overall, I enjoyed your review, and THANK YOU for giving the specs in both metric and the SAE (American) units without condescension or sneering.
Im really pleased you enjoyed my video, it has given me much enthusiasm to make more in the future :)

@@airriflesuk5997 mine is still hard to cock too btw! Did you have to file the sight grooves to fit the adaptor? I was thinking of fitting silencer to make the cocking easier and using the silencer as a grip to cock it.
Great review and analysis. I'm currently looking to get into air rifle shooting and am now considering the HW99S.

@@airriflesuk5997 yeah mine has started galling unfort

@@airriflesuk5997 25 quid for chkl and thread about 30 for tune kit

I will also say tho, its super accurate and i dont really regret owt as i dont ever intend to sell it :)
Thanks for watching !
Hi buddy were did you get the silencer adapter and silencer please ?
I got the silencer from my local gun shop as thats the only place you can pick 1 up from these days (legally) and i got the adapter from ebay...
Heres a link to said item
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GunTuff-Silencer-Adaptor-15-5mm-1-2-UNF-20-TPI-Airgun-Slide-On-Protector-/233829667263?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
Your local gun shop should be able to assist you further.
@@airriflesuk5997 thanks buddy much appreciated 👍
Tiny amount of WD in the pellet skirt, try that over the crony 😎 Detonation will not damage any seal ,path of least resistance out the barrel lolz
Along with a very loud muzzle crack and then smoking barrel to boot.
Im sure we have all done it at some point with a tatty old some thing or other.
Not a great idea if your pistol/rifle is already putting out the legal limit though 🤯
Hi there what silencer adapter would fit a .22 cal version? that is going to a 1/2 UNF?
thanks
Not sure as mine is in .177
But i would imagine its the exact same size as .22
The outer diameter of the barrel on both calibre is the same as far as i know.
Go for a 15.5mm
@@airriflesuk5997 cheers
Great review 👍
Thanks very much 👍👍👍

Do you still own this Rifle?
The "crunchy" on cocking action you mention sounds like galling - metal rubbing on metal.
Did this go away, get worse, or haven't you got this anymore?
@@harrybatt998 yes i still own its
And yes the problem is galling, which is common with the hw99s unfortunately.
It seems to come and go.
Ive not really used it much since i got it as i have so many other rifles, but once ive put a few more tins through it ill take it apart and give it a bit of a doing up.
@@harrybatt998 no probs fella, any time :)
Im a .177 man so that would be my choice.
I can shoot the heads off daisy's at 20 meters no problem. Thats good enough for me 😋
If you fancy one then just get one.
There a really tidy rifle, that shoots like they cost loads more. The galling can be a huge issue for some but for me its not.
If your mechanically minded of know someone who is its an easy fix.
When all said and done you wont find another rifle of such quality selling for the same price as a new 99s ;)
Has the silencer adaptor held up well mate? Just debating whether to buy the slip on hw 1 or go the same route you did. Cheers
Yea its still where i left it fella.
Massive money saving tbf.
Although as i went and got a smaller size i did need to force it on so its likely never coming back off. I.e. its now a scope dedicated rifle and can no longer be used with iron sights.
If you have the money, id go for the hw version ;)
In hindsight i feel its what i should have done.
But again, was a huge saving in cost...
The choice is yours as they say 👍👍
@@airriflesuk5997 cheers mate appreciate it, only thing that puts me off the hw 1 is do you have to leave the iron site on the front? Just i think it looks rather silly haha. Going for daft money now the 99s people cant get hold of em its defo a keeper
I have one in .177 i have cut the barrel down to 11" and fit a 1/2 in unf silencer not an easy task you will need a rotabroach cutter... & a 1/2" unf DIE .... so yes the power does go up on the 99s mine is 11.2 ft/lb after 2500 pellets... also i have fitted a set back trigger as i found the reach too far for me.....
i would say do not mess with the trigger untill you have put at least a 1000+ pellets down the barrel...im a lefty so also fitted a cs500 l/h stock i am putting targets down at 55yds... very happy also i am using webley accupell ........
Hiya tony.
Yes that sounds like a lot of work, very much a right tool for the job that lot.
I still need to put a lot more pellets through mine, shooting lovely all the same. I recently got a hw 45 as well so im spending more time with that at the moment getting my aim in.
Thanks for the comment.
Do you have any other rifles ??
Is the trigger from Rowan engineering? I'm thinking of getting one are they easy to fit?
@@jimmynich4791 no its just the standard trigger.
Nice work! Did shortening the barrel affect accuracy at all?
The Barrel is 15mm not 15.5mm. In order to get a 15mm adapter to fit, you need to file down the very slightly raised front sight mounting grooves
A 15.5mm adapter will cause misalignment.
thank you , good video
Nice review, pal! I recently got one in .22 and it shoots nicely out the box.
How do you remove the front iron sights though?!
I took out the small screw but they're still clamped tightly onto the little grooves at the end of the barrel, and no amount of force seems to budge them 🤔
Thank you.
If i rem rightly, i stuck a screw driver down the gap and lever'd the sights apart a little so they could come un clamped from the groves of the end of the barrel 👍
@@airriflesuk5997 Cheers for your reply, I'll give that another go - I probably wasn't trying hard enough 😂
@@minimal_enthusiasm5971
How is your 99 holding up now you've had it for a while?
Have you experienced the common "galling" problem which feels like grinding/roughness when cocking?
Such a shame these guns eat themselves, otherwise they'd be perfect.
Hey man loved the video! I'm getting this rifle in a couple of months in the .177 variation. My question is where is the best place to buy after market parts?? Scopes, triggers, drop in kits etc? Thanks man! Was sitting on the fence about this rifle for a while but your video twisted my arm... It didnt need much twisting 😂👍👍
Scopes can be found at great prices on ebay...
Have a look at rowen engineering for after market parts such as gold triggers, anodized bling etc etc
Tuning parts can also be found on ebay, or at tinbumtuning. Look for a maker called tbt
Alright mate just wondering i bought a .22 version with a push on 15mmsilencer and a 4×9×30 scope with it do you think this is ok
Great little Gun, it's a Weihrauch
Good gun but realy benefits from a drop in tuning kit..
I have a kit kicking about, i just haven't got round to fitting it. I kept telling myself i wanted to really get a feel for the rifle while it was standard, so when i fitted the kit id really see the difference...
One day ill get round to it
(He says)
Many thank for watching.
Per cortesia, vorrei conoscere la marca e le caratteristiche dell' ottica montata sulla tua carabina. Grazie.
What’s the difference between this and the 95 please any idea ? Thanks Shane uk 🇬🇧
The 95 is built to a higher standard and has a tougher chassis
Can produce larger ft/lbs but for the uk this is not often known, also the stock has more elegance and the 95 comes fitted with a moderator
@@airriflesuk5997 There both good, 95 has the same cylinder, barrel different, clocking leaver, and they have a clocking shoe rather than just a clocking leaver, both Brill guns, I've had couple 95s and prefer these 99s, galling issues on these can be sorted, top rear of piston needs polishing, then cocking leaver end needs polishing isn't easy as it's very hard tempered steel.
Mine shoots the stock bolts loose but its accurate af on open sights
Since making this review i have shot the rifle a lot more...
Ive also noticed mine does that as well.
There not perfect rifles by any means but there a lot better than what 220 notes gets you with other rifles.
Accurate rifles full stop really albeit a tad hold sensitive as standard.
@@airriflesuk5997 i love mine i have a very tuned 80k and a tx but i go for the 99s for most lite stuff if im invited shooting i always grab it because its so lite and still get the job more than done every time i will get inside it soon for a polish and i will probly take a coil mabey 2 of the mainspring and put a top hat in to calm it down i only need it to be doing 9ish ftlb anyway i did have a bsa lightning which is supposed to be the 99s main competition and the hw is sooooooo much better and yh mines hold sensitive too its all that power in such a slim little package it wants to go flying about when its shot lol
@@weirdscience8341 yea there a very easy rifle to take too.
I use mine to mow the lawn its that accurate 🤗
I have a tx as well and it never sees the light of day any where near as much as the 99s does...
I have a tbt drop in kit ill fit at some point, im hoping it will calm things down a little.
Im not expecting miracles and will most likely need to remove a few coils too.
Ive already picked up a map blow torch in preparation 👌
I have the 99s in .22 and the front has been cut to reduce the size and get rid of the open sites, it’s been recrowned. I want to add a cocking aid (removing the silencer adapter and silencer... what size cocking aid do I need... 15mm, 15.5mm or 16mm to fit night and snug! Any help appreciated
WHY do that too much hasle
Because now it looks beautiful 😻
And it’s a 15mm for anyone wondering
Digital calipers work wonders fella ;)
Save your money and buy a Walther LGU or LGV if you can find one, believe me I have had nearly ever springer rifle going from HW and AA and the Walther was like finding God, if you want a springer that performs almost like a PCP with the same accuracy, get a Walther LGV or LGU...more money and hard to find these days because they don't make them anymore, but if you can find one second hand and it's been looked after, rip the guys hands off. At the moment I have the LGV but I am trying to get hold of the LGU for my collection.
I’ve owned them in both variants and whilst they were great rifles, ‘shooting like a custom tuned springer’ both were vey heavy.
Does anyone know where I can purchase a moderator from or even this Weihrauch after market push on moderator as I’m intrigued to find out where I can get these from.
Thanks,
Joel.
Breathfire oh right okay cheers, have you had any experience with this and if so how was it?
Great review mate, Thanks. Gonna treat myself to one of these. You sound like yer from Plimuff! Regards from another plymouthian!

Im from Northampton near milton keynes, in the west midlands but ive lived most of my life down in Plymouth, good of you too notice tho, but yea please doo fella trust me you wont regret is.

Do you have to file the barrel to add the adapter and silencer?
Ideally no.
You should be able to find an adapter that more or less just slips on.
And is then tightened via grub screws 👍
@@airriflesuk5997 Thanks mate👍
No probs 👍👍
I used a website called pyramid air that has a conversion calculator on it.
But of course the info you get out can only be as good as the info you put in.

Do you think this would be a better buy than a BSA lightning ?
Ya got £300 , what would you get ?
Nice review "Quad"
Quad Almighty I would definitely go for the hw99s, it’s just great German engineering at its finest, portrayed by its looks and performance, you can’t go wrong.
Yes i do.
Buy this and use the change for a hawke vantage 2-7×32 AO and pellets
Yep the 99 over a shite-ning any day of the week. Don't over look the HW57 either. In my view a unfairly maligned and criminally under appreciated rifle.
*CRAP GAME*
BSA are shite
Awesome rifles. Ive had mine just over an year now & its the .22 one.. Always been brilliantly acurrate but was a bit twangy at first so I Fitted a tbt kit after about a thousand rounds & wow the action has no twang at all & the recoil is minimal. You say its hard to cock? I can cock mine with one finger.lol I only did it once though coz I saw a guy on you tube do it & I wanted to see if it was true.lol.
Hi chap.
Thanks for your comment.
I have a tbt kit to fit in it but like you i want to put a few more shots through it first ;)
Yeah the break barrel has freed up a little now after a few more shots through it ;)
Thanks for watching 👍👍👍
I put the same kit in my .177 and it made such an improvement like you say , mine is so accurate and i love it.
@@MrJules1977
Any problems with galling, Julian?
Galling is common on these, & presents itself as a grinding & roughness upon cocking the gun - metal rubbing on metal.
Ime thinking of getting this gun is it any good for rabbits and woodpigeons
Yes very much so. Mine has nailed well over 12 pigeons so far. Admittedly ive only taken it out pest controlling twice but it performed superbly both times i did.
Its super light weight compared to many other springers but packs a full power punch.
I love mine and will keep it forever. I also said that about my tx200hc but man was that thing heavy !
I had a choice on which one to sell and i kept the hw...
Many thanks for watching :)
I make it 10.77 ft/lbs 760 squared x 8.44 ÷ 450240 = 10.77 ?
where did u get your adaptor from mate will u send me link please
michael michael it’s on eBay mate and there’s a link in the description
and would a 15.5mm one fit on my .22cal ?
Yes
Thats a long barrel
Imo that 99 looks stupid with the silencer adaptor on
Indeed it does fella.
But each to their own as they say lol ;)
Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :)
ive always had bsa but i thought id buy one of these cos of the hype but its so noisey from the action its embarassing.twaaaang !!!
Fluctuating audio volume. Please wear a mic
Is this rifle better at a .22 version
Hard to say better.
Different would be my advise.
Perhaps harder to use effectively some might say...
I have one that's tuned il take £280 for it
