Excellent tutorial thank you!
@@Thisismetman Your welcome man, and thank you for watching!
I use alot more of solvent to remove as much of the resin which saves me on clean up and finish... Good video ... Thanxxx !
Very nice. I wish I saw this before I put new scales on old kitchen knifes. They came out nice but a little difficult due to my technique not as good. I liked your approach to drilling the scales. Thank you sir.
Sure thing!
Clear and concise! Thanks for posting this.
Thank you! Glad to hear that!
Nice what belt sander is that looks like it did a good job
It is just a 2 x 42 inch belt sander with a 6 inch disk on the side. It's low cost but still does a good job with some modifications.
Very nice..love it🙂🙂
Thank You!!
Nice job, just thought you would bevel the front of the scales more before fitting. 😊😊
One more additional step that I do is to mask off the front ends of the scales with painters tape. When you're working with wood it will keep the epoxy from soaking into the scales so that area takes stain and finish just like the rest of the scales.
That is good to know, I will try that out on the next knife and Thank You for tuning in to watch.
what type of material can I use for pins? and what type of epoxy?
You have a few options you can choose from for pins, brass, and stainless steel is good or you could use some G10 rods for pins. I like to use a good two part mixing epoxy that has a slow drying time or a good marine type epoxy.
@@fishkingscutlery thanks for the reply, i will use you method to repair my machete, cheers
@@slickman5969 cool, thanks for watching!
Good video Ive been making my first knife an really enjoying it thanks for the help what metal did you use for the pins
Thank you, glad I could help you out. I think I used stainless steel pins on that blade. Hope you make some dandy knives and have some fun doing it.
what brand resin do you use to make your scales?
Those scales were made professionally probably with Alumilite resin or some marine resins.
Thank you
Your welcome!
did you peen the pins after this, or left them as is?
No they were not peened, just sanded them smooth and was careful not to burn the epoxy.
@@1800moonSugar If you use a good marine epoxy or a good epoxy they should be fine. You could beat on the handle with a hammer and it will more than likely break the scales before a pin would come loose.
More tape on the blade near the scales eliminates the need to clean the glue off the blade.
Experience talking.
Yes, more tape around the front of the scales, keep it clean as possible. Thanks hopefully it helps someone out and they learn from our experiences.
