Dude, “Higher” was literally one of the songs that made me actually start asking my parents for a guitar. That opening riff is sooo much better than the chorus btw.
I would argue the opening riff to one last breath is even better.
@@TheDirtyFritz I raise you one, and suggest the opening riff to With Arms Wide Open.
Mark Tremonti is a guitar legend. That is all.
Always a show off, but in alter bridge its f*king monster
I would say more a God than just a legend. The sole reason I ever picked up a guitar.
@@killingspencer6416 During his Creed days, he would actually say he wasn't a good guitarist at all and only learned how to play because he was getting his own prs line, lol. I can't play guitar to save my life....in fact, the only thing I ever learned on guitar was the intro to 'What it's like' and then gave it up since I got really impatient, lol....but Tremonti has always been one of my favorites since I first heard him play in 1998....now the man is just a beast in AB :)

Can’t say I’m a creed fan but I’ve been a tremonti fan since I stumbled across his guitar licks
Creed's guitar parts will always be legendary to me. Mark Tremonti is a monster, and like them or hate them, it's his playing in Creed that first got me into playing guitar.
jaymzOG hahaha 😂 lol
jaymzOG hell yes. Tremonti is the man! He’s solo and better than creed
so true. I think his Alter Bridge work is even better and often overlooked by mainstream sources.
He is one of the most underrated in the guitar culture, his clean melodies in Creed were awesome!
@@killingspencer6416 Creed was actually an amazingly good band. Singer included. Just got too much radio play all at once and of course when people realized the band was somewhat Christian it killed the mood I guess. Happened to several really good 90s - 00s bands.

I think the lyrics to Rockstar have a very juxtapositional and sardonic tone to them. I think too many people took that song at the surface level. The satire is fairly obvious.

SWWonders no live performance ever has or ever will too the perfection of WTLI, I don’t think he made any mistakes on AGT or Try! Either but the way the songs were arranged on WTLI is perfection.

I haven't listened to Creed in like 15 years, but I still find myself playing "Higher" and "What If" when I'm idly messing with the guitar. Shout out to Guitar World or Player for having those tabs back in the day.
Woah you called it way back!!!!
Bro the intro to What If is so epic and one of the best intros ever.
Word around the campfire is if you play a Nickleback record backwards you'll hear messages from the Devil. Even worse, if you play it forward you'll hear Nickelback.
Nickel back was a killer band man. that’s just the truth. Cheesy and overplayed to death? Yes. But they were good at the time. Hindsight is 20/20
@@allstopblue5717 Nah man, they were terrible. Top to bottom. No doubt about it. Nickelback makes Creed sound like Alice in Chains. I'd rather listen to Fran Dresher and Sofia Vergara argue than have to suffer through a Nickelback chorus.

The guitar solo in My Sharona - not what you played - but the solo that gets cut out in the radio edit is a collage of majestic rock lick greatness. Hands down one of my favorite guitar solos of all time.
"My Sharona" is a great song...a lot of people have never heard the full version with the guitar solo. What's so cool about it is that it came out in 1979 and it kind of bridges '70s guitar rock and '80s new wave. Great list as always!
My impression is that that solo is pretty well known
@@dr.corneliusq.cadbury6984 not really. Most times they just play the radio edit that cuts out the entire solo.
James Gee I noticed it in adulthood and wondered when that song got cool. I don’t know if I got better at listening, or if the newer better 80s stations we listen to plays full versions (which is true! Finally we get all the proper long intros)

John Mayer is actually a pretty darn good guitarist. He's got a lot of good stuff in his music.
Ask Clapton, johns one of the greatest guitar players ever. If you think otherwise you are ignorant. Sure he has a lot of girly loves songs but you need to look harder. He shreds some of the best blues.
@@mikegorski8684 no such thing as girly songs. People make those sort of things up for no reason, like whatever music you like, don’t dislike them for who does like them
@@Not_Mii_Uus lol there is definitely girly types of music. Britney Spears, Nikki manaj, most k-pop. Just like metal and rock sounds manly. Doesn’t mean a man can’t enjoy it if it’s girly. Or a girl can’t enjoy metal. I love girly music but it still doesn’t change the fact it’s girly. And lots of John Mayer’s stuff is girly which is why girls love him usually more than dude do. That lick that Tremonti did in 'Higher', that was actually something he goofed around with during soundcheck when they were on tour with the 'My Own Prison' album.
Dissing Creed. In the words of Stephanie Tanner, “How rude!” In all seriousness Creed is the band that got me into rock music and was my gateway into so many great artists and bands and it all started when I listened to Higher. I honestly owe a lot to that song and the band as a whole.

I think a lot of people would agree with you. Whether they admit it or not is a different story.
Creed sucks
According to many music historians My Sharona is "The Song That Killed Disco." So yeah, I'm pretty sure it's legendary just for that.
For me personally, Creed wrote some amazing songs & Tremonti's riffs were & still are insane. Alter Bridge & Tremonti are seriously amazing examples of his playing & technique.
Might be a fanboy but I personally loved Higher & for its time it was one of heaviest rock songs in the charts.
I love Creed idgaf what anyone says
Tremonti is, imo, one of the all time greats. Creed has some incredible songs.
Creed was an amazing band, no doubt. People just like making fun of Scott Stapp's voice
TakiJap97 The thing with Stapp’s voice that people never seem to mention, is the fact that most rock singers of that era sounded like that (Fuel, Pearl Jam, Etc.). I’ll always jam Creed, I’m ok with not looking cool for people haha.
Yep the detriment of that band was Scott stapp, first his high points, his lyrics were well written, and he was very charismatic live and gave a good performance as a front man in terms of showmanship. Now the reasons I say he was the detriment, drug abuse, self explanatory. Poor cohesion with his band mates, he did not get along with most of the members, him and mark probably had the best relationship and even then you could tell mark was being kind with how he spoke about him in interviews. Very inconsistent voice live sometimes his voice would be on point and next night way off, and I really don't know why. And finally his voice was great but he focused to hard on certain aspects of his voice to often and it got old and almost became a meme of sorts. He needed to be more dynamic and work on diversifying his vocal performance. Same issue really that nickleback has with Chad Kroger except Chad is not a good lyricist imo, in a way Kirk hammett also has a similar issue because of his use of the way pedal on nearly every solo he plays.
"My Sharona" is not lame, but most people ignore the great solo due to the more famous riff
My Sharona may be overplayed, but will always be one of my favourite rock guitar solos. It really develops nicely over the rhythm part and builds with intensity to a nice peak before it all breaks down to that main riff.
Awesome video. Definitely overlooked riffs. By the way, love that telecaster. Beautiful
The solo guitar part in My Sharona is also awesome, there are lots of hidden techniques in that part that are worth mentioning and using imo

Let's be honest, all the instrumental of backstreet boys are awesome, at least their old material
When I play Higher I usually switch to playing the lower octave D chord on the 4th-6th strings after I play the noodley riff so that I can let the D on the 3rd string ring a bit longer. Either play them all as a chord (with the highest D vibrato to make it stand out) or hit the low D chord on the next upbeat. Then go back to playing the C# thing on the A string.

I agree actually.
Dude. For LAME songs Part Deux: You GOT to do the solo from Maniac from the 80s flick Flashdance. It’s literally the best solo in any pop song ever. And no one ever remembers that it’s there!
When you did the Sharona "bridge" section I literally screamed because I love that bit and it bothers me that it is so overshadowed by the riff.
Mark Tremonti is one of the best guitarists of this era. His work with Creed & Alter Bridge is amazing.
Btw, I recently found your channel & have been loving it. Keep up the good work & always rock out.
The album, Get the Knack, was released before my freshman year of college. The Knack, were influenced by my favorite band, The Beatles. What's lame is not playing the solo on a Gibson Les Paul.
I really don't get what's so "Lame" about My Sharona.
Franco Perez I think I have a better Sharona
Your sharona is bologna
I tried
There’s nothing lame about it especially considering that my fantasy football team’s name is My Sharona
@R. Not really. www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=124397021 He was 26, she was 17, but nothing happened at that time. They started dating later, when she was an adult.
@@kilroy2517 well that's grooming for ya
I definitely noticed that lick in Body is a Wonderland! My favourite part actually. It could be a great jazzy jam section if he wanted to stretch his amazing band out a la Dead & Co. Thanks for breaking it down
As always, good effort :) Thumbs up :)
