I Tried Japan's WEIRDEST TINY Sleep Pods
Вставка

- Sleep pods and capsule hotels are everywhere in Japan. The country revolves around sleep (and sometimes lack thereof) with people sleeping on the streets, trains, and even in offices. So today, we are trying out one of the weirdest sleep pods I have seen yet... It's VERTICAL!! This one is amazingly located in a cafe entirely dedicated to sleep! The Nestle Sleep Cafe in Tokyo~

Never stayed in a Capsule hotel yet... I think we should fix that
*But Would YOU STAY IN HERE?? Join the discussion below and let me know!!*
HUGE THANKS to the crew that made this possible!! And in case you're not caught up.... Here's the rebuild of JAPAN'S TINIEST SHOP ua-cam.com/video/nsimPVu1aLU/v-deo.html
Sooo what I’m hearing is we need a testing capsule hotels video 😜😊😊
It’s not the Weirdest! It’s the most Sassy sleep pod
I have slept in a capsule hotel before, my recommendation is choose a capsule which also has a private room outside, so it feels like a mini regular hotel room
I acutally sleep better sitting, so I save alot of money when going on a train
I just wanna know whats going on with the bathroom. lol jk
For me it’s not the vertical sleeping position (fallen asleep standing in a train before) but the fact that the sleeping pods are right smack in the middle of the cafe that would make me feel too self conscious to even fall asleep 😂
Exactly. Like, what if I start snoring, or sleep talking, or manage to open the door then sleep walking, even though I never do that before.
Or nap marks/lines on my sleepy face while I walk out of the pod and people start starring at me.
Imagine ripping a nice sleep fart in the sleep pods leaving a gift for the next person lol
I love noise for going to sleep, so that part's great. Breathing in my own breath for an hour, not so much.
@@tracy7612 The pods have fans and vents for air exchange
I want a coffee nap store!!
I feel like they’re good for when you’re legitimately tired and need to nap, it’s hard to nap when you’re not tired even in a comfy bed!
(^-^)
the way you spoke about how much japan likes naps made me envious. in north america it feels like everywhere hates rest- even the chairs at schools, workplaces, busses and trains are made to be uncomfortable. i'd love to have a little coffee nap in a cafe.
I work at a bank, we aren’t allowed chairs. Apparently if you’re sitting you’re not working.
A lot of the big cities even make the benches "nap unfriendly/homeless proof" so there would be no napping or sleeping there anymore either.
@@sendtherain23Good lord, that’s just cruel, my back would be screaming, I bet whoever thought of that brilliant idea has a very comfy, ergonomic chair ☹️
Japan dont kike sleeping, they work way to much so everyone needs to sleep or cant stay awake so they come up with shit like this. So its more lets get the people to sleep so they work better but not sleep to much that they are sleepy
I think part of it is because Japan does encourage working as much as possible and to do that realistically you need to be able to rest as much as possible when you can. In America the way the working class is treated is beyond bizarre. I guess it’s because of the whole notion that as long as you work hard enough you won’t be poor which just simply isn’t true. For some reason the upper class hates anything that might make it seem like service workers are being “lazy” aka why we are forced to stand all day when working at as a cashier, bank teller, or front desk at hotel even though it makes absolutely no sense and does nothing but needlessly wear out employees. I had so many responsibilities working front desk at a motel and the fact that I wasn’t even able to sit down while checking people in made me so angry. There was absolutely no reason the counter needed to be that high up. My feet would be killing me by the end of my shift. There were so many more things I wanted to do to make the place nice but I was getting so worn out from never being able to sit down that I just couldn’t do it so it’s actually just holding people back from being more productive. It’s so stupid.
The fact that you've tried a standing sleep pod in a Japanese Cafe but have never tried a capsule hotel just screams Norm 😂😂
hahaha yeah.... feels about right
you seem to know english, then you use a word like norm lol. idk
@@beanzburriton4263 thats his name
@@beanzburriton4263 norm is his real name
@@beanzburriton4263creator of the video's name is norm friend :)
I’ve been drinking caffeine and taking an immediate nap after lunch for twenty years. You are totally AWAKE afterwards. It’s wonderful.
haha very jealous
I wonder why that works?
My dad swears by these 'coffee naps'.
@@cubemissy When you fall asleep the caffeine hasn't kicked in yet (so not very effective if it takes a while for you to fall asleep but great for those who can do it at a moments notice) and by the time you wake up it will have so you wake up alert instead of groggy
Or, if you're like me, caffeine puts you to sleep.
I'll drink a cup of coffee and it's like drinking a beer. Relaxed and a bit sleepy, sometimes.
(Yes, apparently that's some kind of a symptom of ADHD, I think)
I was oddly nostalgic for taking naps at my desk way back in elementary school and this actually seems like an ergonomic version of that! Pretty neat idea.
Yep it reminds me of napping in the library, or study hall in high school as I had to take a filler course in the morning before going to vocational school in the afternoon to take computer network technologies classes.
Yeah, same
Totally! That’s exactly what I was thinking! lol
That’s exactly what it reminded me of! A slightly more comfortable, semi-private version of falling asleep at your desk in class.
My two major requirements for sleep are temperature and environment. The confined space is not a problem but I don’t think I could fall asleep in the middle of a cafe. Also I need it to be freezer cold 😆
yeah I am quite similar on that one!
Yep I need to be at just the right cool temperature to get a good nap, or nights sleep
I like it cold enough that I need a blanket. Even in the summer I blast the AC so that I can use a blanket.
So over the past year I've built up a lot of experience trying to nap or at least rest in all kinds of places (as a treatment for chronic fatigue) and I would be all over their nap rooms but the giraffe nap - only if the other options were taken 😅. I usually bring ear plugs and/or earbuds for white noise but it's very thoughtful of the café to provide it! Oh, and my tip for anyone needing some quick rest would be - do take some deep breaths at the start and don't get hung up on actually falling asleep. Rest is still rest!
Love those tips~
Thank you!!
Concentrate on relaxing facial muscles, especially around the mouth. Once those are relaxed you'll be out like a light.
From the outside they remind me of the medieval prisoner cages 😂 Also, I love the inbuilt sprinkler system - a lot of people don’t take sleep combustion seriously ……… 💜
LOL yeah.... they kinda look like hat from the outside haha
Maybe the sprinklers can be activated when the costumer wouldn't really wake up (but still alive)
😂
@anthonynelson6671 oh yeah, I hate it when I just burst into flames when I sleep, its so annoying
Ah gibbets, the peak of medieval comfort.
The sleep pods seem like a neat idea, but the more I think about them the more I think they'd never work for me. I'm already a light sleeper so trying to take a nap when there's people working just outside seems bad enough. If it's too hot like you're saying in those then that's also a definite no-go. Still, I'd try it once
Lol, this is giving me airplane bathroom vibes! The sleep posture is kind of like a seated massage chair. Interesting that there's a sprinkler system in one! Are they anticipating people smoking in there? 😱
LOL about 1/3 the size of those airplane bathrooms!
Absolutely wild!
These pods remind me of falling asleep at a desk, just a bit more comfortable. Maybe you can build a DIY version in your studio?
Youre way too energetic and lively from the beginning of the video i knew there wouldnt be any sleeping 😂 thank you for showing us this experience tho i saw it online and was curious as well! Great video as always ❤
There is always something new to learn about Japan.
that's why I loveit!
There's no way I can sleep in that. It looks like a giant version of the tube that they use to send specimen samples to the lab in the hospital 😅
I also can't nap anywhere public because I don't feel safe.
That's a pretty novel idea. I can see it working anywhere in Tokyo because the majority of people there are well-bahaved and keep to themselves. Put that sleep pod in any North American cafe and you've almost flushed your money down the toilet. I like the idea that a citizen's overall wellbeing is a major factor in how these things get put together.
It’s a Pulowski Preservation shelter….. in Japan! Not really what they were built for, but using them as standing nap stations might actually work this time
I'd love to see them in an office where employees could take a 10-20 min break. If you work with a computer, you could rest your eyes as well.
I read that Google tried some sleep pods for their staff along with a more relaxed work schedule, and productivity as a whole seemed to go down, but maybe they would work in Japan as the work/social culture is different.
@CommodoreFan64 Idk I have almost completely eliminated napping from my life unless I’m sick or something because after even a few minutes of sleep in the day I’m in a nauseous catatonic fugue state for the rest of the day. I don’t understand how people can nap and be productive.
@@sonialinsey8083same ffs. I don't know how people feel refreshed after midday naps. I just wake up with acidity and a clouded brain which lasts for the rest of the day.
Like the video and how you are so excited about it all 💪 I like how you addressed the coffee thing, because I was thinking that lol
Woooooow vertical sleeping pod?! What an interesting invention😳 I’d love to try it once!! Indeed, giraffenap🦒 is a perfect naming lol Thank you for always sharing exciting experiences with us❤ can’t wait for the retro game system vids as well!!
those gaming systems gonna be tons of fun!
I like what your doing with the editing here! Pacing feels very different but nice
Great review. Thanks for another cool video Norm
This is the first video I have seen of yours and I thoroughly enjoyed it! You have a really good way of speaking and are highly animated which makes it interesting to watch lol. I will subscribe!
Welcome to the adventure
Glad to have you here 😊
you definitely need to do a video trying / comparing a few capsule hotels
Loving all the recent content, hope you're doing great norm! notification squad ahoy
As a Resident, I do 28 hour shifts 6-7 times a month. And the caffeine nap is actually a thing that works surprisingly well for synergistically increasing your energy. You basically drink a cup of coffee and then immediately take a 20 minute nap before the caffeine hits. Now sleeping vertically...I'm afraid I don't have much experience with that
I spent so many nights on my virtual boy, probably the reason my eyes are so bad today hahahaha. another great and unique video! You seem to be the first on many of the trends, I'm betting I'll be seeing more of these pop up in the next month!
would love to try but i think im the same as you where you kinda sleep while sitting, rather than fully stand up, its just feels weird, cant wait for the next video thanks for the vids norm!!!
The idea of a sleeping vertically in a little cocoon spounds really nice. It makes me want to build one for myself lol.
This actually seems great. Like taking a nap on a desk that is actually comfortable.
High school made me well prepared for falling asleep in the most public, random, and uncomfortable of places.
The pod sounds like a banger to me.
I’ve been watching you for years and years, and I just have to say you’ve really come into yourself, you show so much more confidence and joy. Seems you’re really making your dreams come true, and your content only gets better with time! An example of successful adulting. Haha. Cheers Norm! ( I know this is a kind of funny video to comment this on, but it was on my mind and needed to be said haha.)
Oh my goodness you are the most childlike explorer person and I’m all in for it. Thank you!
Your videos are always amazing
Thank you so much 😀
That is A+ customer service! Drinks, food & a nap! What more could you ask for 😂
I am fascinated with Japan and i love these videos.
Love your videos!!!
Not sure I could sleep standing up like that either haha I would love to see a capsule hotel video!
Much love from Arizona 💜💜
Your studio looks awesome :D
Love the video and learning, but a couple of aesthetic thoughts here. The first one looked like it had the potential to be like a zen garden with bamboo accents (with soundproofing). The second one looked like a futuristic escape capsule. I think size doesn't matter (to me, as long as I can get out 😅) but details like sound, temperature and lighting would. The whole point is to shut down as quickly as possible. Those sleep rooms looked amazing!
I love seeing all the capsule hotel in japan. I want to stay in some of them when I visit some day
Great video, well presented and informative.
I think the pods are better and you can sleep TV, showers, most have free food and drinks. You really need to test sleep one.
I remember reading that there was a thing in Victorian London where you could pay a very cheap price to sleep leaning over a rope. This just seems like a really bougie version of that 😆
for once I'm part of the notification squad 🎉 Norm, love your content and after watching your content my dream is now to road trip Japan in one of those tiny campers.
tiny camper is the best thing ever!
ok, that was totally weird 😂 you should definitely do a capsule video!
would love to see some retro video game content on here! hunting/gaming set up/testing/unboxing/playing. I love it
Great video! I would love to see a video on the Virtual Boy. I'd even enjoy watching your repairs if it doesn't work at first.
Hi from South Australia. I love your videos, and am even watching the older ones. Unfortunately I don't think the time zones would be favourable for me to catch a live, but I am watching
I’m also not a vertical sleeper so I probably couldn’t sleep in either of those pods. Love the in box virtual boy by the way
Coffee naps are great. I often drink a cup of coffee right before a nap to wake up feeling super refreshed
Awesome job bro it s so awesome
Yes! We DEFINITELY need a video for the Virtual Boy and the other retro Nintendo gear 😁😁
I do love a good nap, but I’m not sure I’d be able to sleep much either in that vertical position. Those little sleep rooms though! 😍
OMG😳!!! I went to the cafe to film the sleeping pod the other day and now I’m editing the video…you did it too and uploaded the video already?!!!😂
WHAAATTT???? No way!! I can't wait to see what you do with the video!! This was a fun but challenging one to shoot and edit!
I have a kotatsu at home (Australia) and have started using a folded blanket as a pillow ON the table top to nap. So I sit at it and lean on it :)
Caffeine naps are better than caffe or naps alone in terms of feeling refreshed :)
"a nere 20 minute nap can revolutionize the way your work" nah cuz that is actually so so true man. sometimes youre just so beat and tired coffee dont even wake you up, but that 10 - 20 minute nap is the biggest energy boost ever
They're interesting, but I can't fall asleep sitting up very well, so I don't think I would try to use this. I always thought having a hammock in an office would be super helpful for late nights. Maybe one of the large hammock chairs with a tentlike pod over it?
I'd love to see the games consoles unboxed in a video!
I guessed the price exact haha but I think I’m just familiar with the price of relaxing type items, for example massage chairs 😂
You definitely have to do a capsule video especially since there are so many different kinds of them in Japan .
Love that Japan appreciates naps
I have fell asleep standing in the middle of a factory, I definitely could sleep in one of those if I was tired. The verticle position is actually ideal for me because I have really bad sleep apnea.
Early again at long last! Notifcations spot on :D
niiiice!! Love when that plays out right haha
i used to nap at my desk at school very often. this definitely gives the same vibe‚ but i’m not sure if i would prefer to be less “scrunched” or more for my ideal nap position.
Not too sure about this one lol, but I've done capsule. I very much enjoyed Book and Bed capsule hotels. You sleep among bookshelves 😊. I did the airport capsules. Those were fine also.
And yes, I'd love to see gaming gear vids. I've never seen a working Virtual Boy and I'm curious about the glove!
I would never be able to sleep in a pod like that! I’d prefer the napping sofa with the blanket. Also the couch in your studio is still a better option than those pods! And not as scary as that pod was when the truck drove by too! 😂
Yes, yes, and yes! I would love to see what you think of the Virtual Boy!
Hey there, Norm!
Hope you doing fine,
Thank you so much for the great content and for all the inspiration, I wish to someday make great content like you, and I'll work hard for it.
Wish you the very best!
Now that's an interesting concept. ☕
This would be so cool to have in the office. I tend to squeeze in some power naps during my lunch break, just putting my head on the desk, but these pods look a lot more comfortable 😂
sleep standing and coffee 2 things that would keep me awake
This reminded me of how I used to sleep in the library everyday in high school, I used to put a hoodie in my backpack and used it as a pillow. Would take a nap right at one of the cubicle desks.
Yessss, would love to see the Nintendo accessories video!
Yes would love to see a video on the retro Nintendo game collection 👍
Great video, … again!
I think that after a very big jet lag, I'll manage to sleep in it. The heat will still be a problem though.
Thanks from France
I would love to have one of these, also vertical sleeping is not a problem for me, I used to sleep while standing on my bus to school 😅
reminds me of sleeping in a school seat, but with some walls surrounding you. I'd love the hell out of this thing
I've tried to sleep standing up before & it's SO difficult. My brain is just constantly telling my body "you're standing up so go do something." I'd still try one of these pods though cause who knows what might change. That cafe looks really nice too!
so challenging lol
Love the Super Scope
I absolutely adored this video, the editing was my level of hyperactive. I sleep with a face mask to help block light, so I feel like a mask and noise cancelling headphones would be a must if you tried these pods.
And yes please, I'm a life long nintendo fan, so please do a video on your Nintendo gear!!
The only time I've ever slept standing up was on a crowded train home from London, I was leaning against a pillar and just happen to fall asleep. It was a family trip so my mother was with me and she thought is was hilarious.
I've only been able to sleep vertically once...field exercise, when I was in the Army about 19 years ago. I hadn't slept in something close to 36 hours before that. That said, I can sleep at a desk, and for that reason, I'm reasonably confident I would be able to fall asleep in one of those sleep pods. Temperature would be a concern, though...I'd likely need it to be something like 15-17°C or colder to fall asleep (coincidentally, same field exercise as mentioned above, but 3 nights earlier, I fell asleep outside in -22°C temperature with a wind chill of -32°C...slept 7 hours, a good restful sleep, and woke up perfectly fine the next morning...except the drill sergeant was my alarm clock 😅 ).
Also...good to see your retro game collection coming along. I've been stepping mine back a bit in recent times, in preparation for one day maybe moving somewhere (it's a difficult proposition to consider moving 6 rooms full of stuff). I'll also admit it's been difficult for me to do, as I collected for 21 years, and I remember all the connections I made along the way, here in the US and elsewhere around the world. Was a passion project, I suppose you could say...but sometimes, passions change.
As a consequence of having done a doctorate degree, i'm pretty good with being able to nap almost everywhere. I'd be most curiosity to try these pods! ❤️
I’m one of those people who are unaffected by caffeine too. I can have a large mug of coffee and then fall asleep right away. Glad I’m not the only one! 😄. I think I could try one of those sleeping pods if I was really sleepy and just needed a short nap, but probably just the darker one with the working fan.
I think I’d have to be rrrreally tired to sleep in the pod. There’s been times where I could have taken a cat nap on a breakroom table at work but yeah I have a hard time drifting off sitting up. As far as caffeine goes I’m one of those people that is super sensitive to it. If I have one cup early in the morning I feel like it’s still working when I’m trying to sleep later in the evening. 😆 Also, Norm, I love your organized tool wall in the studio! That caught my eye haha Nice job on the studio! 😃👍
I am from Spain and I find really funny we get the fame about napping while in Japan they do things like this.
LOL
@@TokyoLens I bet you've heard or read the word "siesta". Believe that's not really a thing. 😅
Yes to all the retro game gear videos
I would’ve loved to try this when I was tired from walking around Tokyo all day! I will definitely try this next time I visit, I could most definitely sleep in the 2nd one!!
Coffee plus sleep, plus standing, plus confined space, plus busy store all sounds like the antithesis of sleep to me. XD
I was struggling to get tired enough to go to bed and this video helped lol
Yes. Yes, we want to see it.
I love the dark one!!
Commuting to work in Tokyo for 3 years taught me that you can very well sleep standing up.
Absolutely yes to the Virtual Boy!
Funny thing is sleeping at a desk in school is some of the best napping anyone will ever have. Still chasing that level of rested
I totally would have guessed like $3-4,000 😮
Also I audibly gasped when Norm showed off the tech at the end 😁 It's so Bad 🤘
Lol I went to this cafe with my friend before they set this up.
Gotta make a return just to take a closer look at it! 😂
Also, when I was still studying, I used to watch office workers just taking naps in cafes and thought it was pretty funny.
Now that I'm working in Tokyo, I understand why they do it sooo well. I wish I could take naps due to exhaustion from work.
You should do a video where you build your own, better sleeping pod for your studio!
Cannot wait to try that out with my bad spine after a day of walking around Tokyo
I feel that it would help give traction to the spine if you have a bad back
YESSSSS A NEW VID
I’d give one of these a try. I’ve slept in some weird positions before so this might be a nice nap for me haha
