  • Sleep pods and capsule hotels are everywhere in Japan. The country revolves around sleep (and sometimes lack thereof) with people sleeping on the streets, trains, and even in offices. So today, we are trying out one of the weirdest sleep pods I have seen yet... It's VERTICAL!! This one is amazingly located in a cafe entirely dedicated to sleep! The Nestle Sleep Cafe in Tokyo~

      Exactly. Like, what if I start snoring, or sleep talking, or manage to open the door then sleep walking, even though I never do that before.
      Or nap marks/lines on my sleepy face while I walk out of the pod and people start starring at me.

      Japan dont kike sleeping, they work way to much so everyone needs to sleep or cant stay awake so they come up with shit like this. So its more lets get the people to sleep so they work better but not sleep to much that they are sleepy

    • @vikkipink1288
      @vikkipink1288 4 місяці тому +15

      I think part of it is because Japan does encourage working as much as possible and to do that realistically you need to be able to rest as much as possible when you can. In America the way the working class is treated is beyond bizarre. I guess it’s because of the whole notion that as long as you work hard enough you won’t be poor which just simply isn’t true. For some reason the upper class hates anything that might make it seem like service workers are being “lazy” aka why we are forced to stand all day when working at as a cashier, bank teller, or front desk at hotel even though it makes absolutely no sense and does nothing but needlessly wear out employees. I had so many responsibilities working front desk at a motel and the fact that I wasn’t even able to sit down while checking people in made me so angry. There was absolutely no reason the counter needed to be that high up. My feet would be killing me by the end of my shift. There were so many more things I wanted to do to make the place nice but I was getting so worn out from never being able to sit down that I just couldn’t do it so it’s actually just holding people back from being more productive. It’s so stupid.

    So over the past year I've built up a lot of experience trying to nap or at least rest in all kinds of places (as a treatment for chronic fatigue) and I would be all over their nap rooms but the giraffe nap - only if the other options were taken 😅. I usually bring ear plugs and/or earbuds for white noise but it's very thoughtful of the café to provide it! Oh, and my tip for anyone needing some quick rest would be - do take some deep breaths at the start and don't get hung up on actually falling asleep. Rest is still rest!

I'm already a light sleeper so trying to take a nap when there's people working just outside seems bad enough. If it's too hot like you're saying in those then that's also a definite no-go. As a Resident, I do 28 hour shifts 6-7 times a month. And the caffeine nap is actually a thing that works surprisingly well for synergistically increasing your energy. I have fell asleep standing in the middle of a factory, I definitely could sleep in one of those if I was tired. The verticle position is actually ideal for me because I have really bad sleep apnea.

    i used to nap at my desk at school very often. this definitely gives the same vibe‚ but i’m not sure if i would prefer to be less “scrunched” or more for my ideal nap position.

    Not too sure about this one lol, but I've done capsule. I very much enjoyed Book and Bed capsule hotels. You sleep among bookshelves 😊. I did the airport capsules. Those were fine also.
    And yes, I'd love to see gaming gear vids. I've never seen a working Virtual Boy and I'm curious about the glove!

    I would never be able to sleep in a pod like that! I’d prefer the napping sofa with the blanket. Also the couch in your studio is still a better option than those pods! And not as scary as that pod was when the truck drove by too! 😂

    This would be so cool to have in the office. I tend to squeeze in some power naps during my lunch break, just putting my head on the desk, but these pods look a lot more comfortable 😂

    I've tried to sleep standing up before & it's SO difficult. My brain is just constantly telling my body "you're standing up so go do something." I'd still try one of these pods though cause who knows what might change. That cafe looks really nice too!

    I absolutely adored this video, the editing was my level of hyperactive. I sleep with a face mask to help block light, so I feel like a mask and noise cancelling headphones would be a must if you tried these pods.
    And yes please, I'm a life long nintendo fan, so please do a video on your Nintendo gear!!

    The only time I've ever slept standing up was on a crowded train home from London, I was leaning against a pillar and just happen to fall asleep. It was a family trip so my mother was with me and she thought is was hilarious.

    I've only been able to sleep vertically once...field exercise, when I was in the Army about 19 years ago. I hadn't slept in something close to 36 hours before that. That said, I can sleep at a desk, and for that reason, I'm reasonably confident I would be able to fall asleep in one of those sleep pods. Temperature would be a concern, though...I'd likely need it to be something like 15-17°C or colder to fall asleep (coincidentally, same field exercise as mentioned above, but 3 nights earlier, I fell asleep outside in -22°C temperature with a wind chill of -32°C...slept 7 hours, a good restful sleep, and woke up perfectly fine the next morning...except the drill sergeant was my alarm clock 😅 ).
    Also...good to see your retro game collection coming along. I've been stepping mine back a bit in recent times, in preparation for one day maybe moving somewhere (it's a difficult proposition to consider moving 6 rooms full of stuff). I'll also admit it's been difficult for me to do, as I collected for 21 years, and I remember all the connections I made along the way, here in the US and elsewhere around the world. Was a passion project, I suppose you could say...but sometimes, passions change.

    I’m one of those people who are unaffected by caffeine too. I can have a large mug of coffee and then fall asleep right away. Glad I’m not the only one! 😄. I think I could try one of those sleeping pods if I was really sleepy and just needed a short nap, but probably just the darker one with the working fan.

  • @Laura_Darkspear
    @Laura_Darkspear 7 місяців тому

    I think I’d have to be rrrreally tired to sleep in the pod. There’s been times where I could have taken a cat nap on a breakroom table at work but yeah I have a hard time drifting off sitting up. As far as caffeine goes I’m one of those people that is super sensitive to it. If I have one cup early in the morning I feel like it’s still working when I’m trying to sleep later in the evening. 😆 Also, Norm, I love your organized tool wall in the studio! That caught my eye haha Nice job on the studio! 😃👍

    Lol I went to this cafe with my friend before they set this up.
    Gotta make a return just to take a closer look at it! 😂
    Also, when I was still studying, I used to watch office workers just taking naps in cafes and thought it was pretty funny.
    Now that I'm working in Tokyo, I understand why they do it sooo well. I wish I could take naps due to exhaustion from work.
