- This video shows how I made an almost indestructible axe handle for my carpenters axe head. It took me 4 attempts but I think that the end result was worth it.

Man, how you have grown. It is good to see makers progress over time. Never stop improving yourself.
I love your video style. No stupid muzak, excellent voiceover, thoughtful video storytelling. Keep it up. Great project as well!
That is an Axe that will last for generations. Well done.
Oh wow, brother I would have given up on the 2nd attempt, you didn't give up. Well done, I've never seen this type of handle done on an axe before on you tube. Truly amazing job. All I can say is wow!
I think your fails in casting produced a win in design looks and use . a much better result . well done
Nice to see you making videos again I know most of us are in school but still eager to see the stuff your working on
I appreciate you showing the handles that didn't work and you just kept at it, never giving up👍🏼. I know I would have left it for weeks in disgust of my setback.
AWESOME JOB, BIG THUMBS UP FROM OREGON.
This handle is super slick. Well done, man! Love your shirt btw. ^^
Wow that wedge design is pretty ingenious
That is an absolutely awesome handle! You did an excellent job in putting it all together and explaining your processes, thank you.
This was a very informative and enjoyable video! Hope to see more.
I've been with your channel since I first started highschool and I'm glad to comeback and you've improved your aluminium sulfite brick forge.
Good idea, persistence, adaptation and final result. Very well done
Amazing work. Great job as always. Cheers!
theres no kill like an overkill..well done and thank you
Haven’t seen your vids for a while. Nice to see you’re still at it. Very inspirational work.
i really get a kick out of all your vids. you come up with some pretty innovative workarounds to buying expensive machinery and materials. keep up the good work.
Been watching your channel for a long time now and you are an incredible creator. Awesome axe handle. That thing will last forever.
Very nice handle! Thanks for detailing the build process.
You are so resilient that it makes me feel bad for those unfinished projects keep it Up🤘🤘
I smiled when I saw all the stuff on your workbench walk around as you were performing percussive maintenance.
First video I personally seen from you, very well done for persisting!!! No doubt it was an emotionally straining; but very rewarding! Really cool video dude! Rock ON!
Beautiful job mate!! Such a talented young man.
I love the idea of an aluminum composite handle! Absolutely brilliant!
Looks AMAZING!
I liked the video! That’s some good work, sweet axe.
Dude, your vids are awesome! I'm way older than you and I can learn so much from you. Keep it on, please!
Welcome back bro it’s been awhile since I’ve watched you but I’ve been subscribed for years
Excellent video. A learning experience shared. Topic was awesome. Well done. Thank you.
Great video. I really appreciate the camera work and sound effects.
2:02 I think it's so funny how flat head screwdriver's are rarely ever used as a screwdriver
Lovely work mate!
Very nicely done!
I need 3 for throwing please :D amazing job !!!!
Ever heard anything from zgb these days?
Great to see a video from you... -great job! :)
What a brilliant idea and a beautiful handle mate
Man I used to watch a lot of your older videos. Glad to see you still doing what you love. Idea for the gaps in the top of the axe. Maybe fill them with some resin?
Nice job , I have a workshop here in the States & my fall & winter costumers have placed a lot of orders over the spring & summer months & i,m about to open my workshop back up next week . So far I have 4 long bows that have to be done, 1 full tomahawk build , 1 knife restoration , 2 sheaths to build , 3 bo sharukins to build , a complete set of 6 Chinese stars to make , 1 tomahawk mod to do , 3 knifes to polish & sharpen , & 1 complete knife build plus 40 arrows complete build that’s not all I still have a lot more stuff to do that just off the top of my head .
Very nice result!
Good to see the Lidl clamps are getting some use! 😉
Great video btw 👍🏻
Brilliant video. Brilliant Axe handle.
Nicely done!
What you've done is a work of art. However ... the number of hours you put into it!
great video ! and i love the axe!
I just watched your 2014 vid on HDPE and now this, Im hooked! Excellent builds! Thank you for sharing!
Perfectly executed R&D 👍
Your axe handle is spot on. 👍🏽
Beautiful handle!
hello ! i love all the work you put in this axe, and you have a nice finish product :)
and, the fact you don't kill a tree for purpose of the video is a nice spirit !
Fantastic job i applaud you great video enjoyed immensely
Beautiful little ax btw!
You are one patient man!
Beautiful great job I never thought of that
Awesome axe . . . I like that you had to fight your way through this project. Sometimes that is the way it goes. You did not give up but thought about what the problem was and how to fix it.
I'm glad you know what it is, and use it well.
Very very well done.
Great job!
Nice work!!!
Very interesting video ! Thank you.
Great job man
Cool hatchet/axe! I really like the size, it reminds me of my own restored roofer's hatchet, which has a hammer and nail puller on the head. I gave it a proper axe handle to replace the original puny one, and it's the perfect small axe/big hatchet
that looks awesome! congrats man!
see ya
Great video and it's great seeing you continuing on after so many years! The perk of wooden handles, at least from what I've heard, is that they shock and vibrations are dampened and transferred back to the axehead, to some degree, which happens less with metal handles. Still useful for sure though!
As for the reason your casting at the top wasn't as good is because the square block you added on top of the handle mould was not big enough. Next time I suggest you try to make it larger and perhaps round-ish, rounder towards the mould itself
HOLY! Nice work
Wow! This is a thing of beauty. I like the fact that you cast your own aluminium.
This is a game changer
Nice job!!
Try doing a horizontal setup for the cast rather than the vertical setup you had, gives it less time to cool! Great video btw!
Yep, same question.
Also: Pre-heat the form and, very important, make sure you have vent holes on the opposite site of your pour.
are you suggesting he pre-heat the dry sand around the foam?
using the dry sand casting method he shows, a horizontal orientation is more likely for a mold collapse. As soon as the molten metal hits the foam, the foam immediately melts down and gasses out of the mold. Successfully using this technique requires a very fast mold fill time so that the metal can occupy the space of the foam without time for the sand to collapse inward. Dry sand casting was never my favorite technique. Go with green sand if you want your mold to be more resilient.
Also didn't look like he had compacted the sand prosperity or has any risers
it looks good!
Beautiful Ax
Checking on your channel after a couple years. Your voice has gotten deeper, and it seems you're starting to give up on this channel. I miss your vids. You're part of the reason I experimented with HDPE years ago lol. Well, good luck. Do what makes ya happy in life dude :)
GORGEOUS
Your axe is cooler than Jimmy's. Awesome work man.
Nice work. That method would make a great slingshot as well.
That's an awesome axe you put lots of care, attention, love, and passion into that axe great how to as well I might give this a try. The only issue I saw though was you put all that effort in but you just left the axe dull as a butter knife i wish you could send it to me so I can sharpen it for you
beautiful video thank you
Outstanding
Hey, you're back!
Lol I came here after a video from 4 years ago and I was like "what?" "Who is This?" Lmao
When cutting aluminium with a jigsaw you could try using a sharp blade made for wood and also increase the pendulum action if it's adjustable. I've cut similar thicknesses with great success and you can quite easily cut 15mm steel as well if you use a good metal cutting blade.
-jumps from a video in 2014 to this one-
Excuse me *what*?
I'm glad I'm not the only one
Well done. The mistakes will only improve your final product, and it did. Amazing job. Well done brother
Nice job. I want one.
My first street rod build had a shifter made that way with full metal tang & oak flooring riveted on the sides and sanded nice
Great job on the axe handle. ... I think that will last a very long time.
Just noticed the Ave shirt... nice man
very clever
Thise is crazy ,cool.
Boy have i missed your uploads
interesting vid mate, i gotta say i love the look of a timber handle but this looks pretty sweet too, just for the record a wooden handle will last for as long as you take care of it. cheers fella
Gun makers use the soot from a candle of a lamp when they're fitting parts to find where materiel needs to be removed. It's a lot better than just whacking them together
For future projects, try using dycum or smoke to see exactly where it's rubbing
Good video
Nice!
Beautiful work, nicely done sir.
My only concern is a metal handle will transfer all of the shock from the axe head into your hand.
I bought a cheap hatchet with a metal handle to keep in my truck, because the wooden handled hatchet I own was too nice to just throw into my toolbox and be rattling around year after year.
When I had to use the metal handled hatchet I soon learned why the wood handle felt better, less wear on your joints.
I will say this, I’ll be looking for a carpenters axe to purchase now.
Perfection
Something to keep in mind with aluminum. It can work harden with repeated strikes. Probly not an issue with just cutting wood but that peening definitely stressed the material and if you didn't anneal it you should to get the max life out of it. Also a buffer between steel and aluminum is ideal for long life as they dont like each Other and corrode faster in direct contact.
Nice video, man. Looks great. Could you update us on this? How has the handle held up? Are you happy with it, or would you prefer something with more shock absorption?
Yessss ,new video by taow
Man all the work that took that handles worth 1000 bucks to you probably
