For a heavier car with less power the FN2 actually did very well. When it comes to handling they were pretty even only on the long straights does the less power cause the fn2 to start losing.
But it is a genuine type R for sure.

Japan always has the best version domestically. Same thing with the Subaru STI, they put in a different engine for the US Spec.
and that Fn2 does not have a LSD too. They should compete against a championship white FN2 that comes with LSD

What a dramatic intro! haha. I had the FA5 the USDM Civic Si sedan. Bought Type-R trunk and tailights for it and made it very unique. Supercharged it as well, coilovers, beefier rear sway bar, lots of camber, full exhaust, all that good stuff! I have some cools vids of it on mi channel. Cheers. We really appreciate you translating, man. This is one of the best automobile programmes in the world and it's great to get to understand the less common ones now!

Compression ratio, suspension, tires, weight, and shorter final drive. The fn2 is still a good type r. Its just the fd2 is just better.

but the ep3 is better by alot, so why would they come out with a new Type R if its slower then the old one?. FN2 are very bad
@@3.2mviews10 it's not as bad as how Jeremy Clarkson portrayed it. It's a UK Swindon build type r just like the ep3. And the newer body is heavier. With about the same power. Type r is about building the best version out of the current chassis Honda provides. It's heavier so that's what might cause the slower lap time. Very easy to fix with some minor bolt ons and better tires. If it can be had for much cheaper or the same as the ep3, I'll choose the fn2. It's still a newer car.
@@ronaldsanpedro1976 I don't live in the UK but my EP3 is a JDM model imported straight from japan. Much faster then the UK spec ep3. I can tell you they are the better car by heaps
@@3.2mviews10 yeah JDM spec k20A are better than the UK ep3 with k20a2. Test drove a friend's JDM ep3 and dc5. There really peppy. Specially if you put a 5.06 final drive from the fd2. Manic acceleration. I test drove fn2 as well. Their quite good. More than what their reputation says as the worst type r. Can keep up with ep3 and s2000 with the right driver. For my taste, I prefer older Hondas. I had a jdm EK9 modded with dc2 b18c block but with EK9's b16b head and pistons. Fun times. Now I only kept my ap1 s2000 all stock. Might be a lifer car. As long as theyre still producing consumable parts for servicing, I'll keep it. Keeping mr. Uehara's dream alive.
the Euro version really kept up but the engine difference is really amazing, the JDM power is really obvious.

Thamin C Hell, I'd say it's a revolution. But high revving NA will always feel more special to me.
+Zygrene Nah ive had my share of high rev n/a engines, the revs go round but not alot happens, turbo is definatly the way forward for performance and also for economy
john jackson For performance and economy, turbo is definitely superior. But for sound/excitement/response, high revving NA can't be matched.
Zygrene I’ll always love the high revving NA but you got to admit the turbo engine in the new Type R is really good!

FD2 has RE070 track tyres which are worth at least part of the difference. FN2 has standard RE050A sport tyres.
Well the RE070 came stock on FD2R so...
These 2 cars are not comparable anyway. The FN2 should never have carried the "R" badge.
MrStamford78 you watch too much top gear 😂 I owned a ep3 for years and now cw Fn2 R. Got no regrets it’s a much better car than ep3

The commentator said that the RE050s are suited for wet condition.
The fn2 lacks top end engine speed and it's so damm quite so you do hit the limiter real quick it could do with another 500rpm to be more useful. Miss my Dc5 lol. That fd2 is just another league

Now I know where the new type r came from
1:14.5 is the best lap for FN2R... FK2R with the similar base chassis does 1:07.4! Incredible difference from the turbo engine, modified front suspension, retuned rear suspension and improved tyres and brakes on the FK2R.
Well this was on wet conditions. On a dry track the FN2 did 1:10.47😉
A lot of the extra performance is due to the diff in the fd2, if the fn2 had one it wouldn’t have lost so easily tho it still would have lost
This version of the FN2 already has the same diff, lol, it helps but still much slower! :)
The "Euro" TypeR which Japan received, got the Torsen/LSD
In Europe only the White Champ had it.
That means,
In Japan, even colors had torsen if they are true legit EURO for JDM market

FD2 and FN2 are based on totally different platforms.
The FN2 is based on the Jazz/Fit, so it's completely made for maximum interior space.
So the engine is very far in front, the fuel tank is below the front seats and the rear of the car is basically a big empty box.
The FD2 has more power, sportier tires, a LSD, a conventional chassis layout with lower center of gravity, and a stiff riding suspension targeted at the Japanese market.
Also Honda did not use a bespoke rear torsion beam on the FN2 Type R, so it was more difficult to dial out the understeer without having to use overly stiff rear springs.
Fn2's are so ugly to me.
Both cars sound amazing and handle really well.

The only advantage the Fn2 has, you can put a bike in the back, where you can't in the sedan.

This was more of a fix than Top Gear. Don't doubt the FN2 is quicker but Tsuchiya made a mess of racing the FN2. JDM always beats EURO on this show ;)
When he said platform is off a honda fit/jazz I laughed.
+john jones Why? :P If you watch the other video (VTEC club part 1 & 2), Ichishima-san (Mr Spoon :P) explains that the Fit platform is actually very good, very stiff. Actually the Fit part is just for the rear end; the front end is the same as the sedan.
very strong to say "us british" as a collective, theres a lot of people in the world and apart from the top gear review from clarkson its actually been given very many positive reviews. top gear's stig said it was fantastic.
Exgaves yeah it's a really good car but not really worthy of the type R badge in my opinion

@@damkw985 No, you’re wrong on that one. The normal (non type R) FD2 civic also has a K20, but it’s the 155hp one. The more common FD1 civic has the R18A.

JDM Type R > Euro Type R > USDM Si
Slonya23 the usdm si has an lsd while the euro type R does not, the R weighs some 5-15kg more and has 4hp/5nm more power and a better final drive, so they are fairly even.
Slonya23 the Si has more in common with the FD2 than the FN2 does. Like the other guy said, the Si has a helical limited slip differential. It's also actually a Civic (like the FD2) underneath and not a Jazz.

going narrisch jdm ctr have more power with less weight compared to fn2..using the same tire still not change the fact that jdm ctr is faster..
our CTR from europe is usless ... 24hp down and 18nm down ... and lets not even start about suspention ori brakes ... let alone the chassi

No wonder the FN2 type R got slated in the UK, at the time it got beat by ALL of its competition. Dont know why we couldnt have a 225ps version in the UK as it would of sold like hot cakes

Beat by the competition? the benchmark was the golf GTI. which it beat by 1sec. It got slated by TOPGEAR because HONDA wouldn't give them a type R they had to HIRE one. hence the shit review. but they fucked up with the TOPGEAR magazine which said it was a great hothatch you just had to learn to be slow in fast out unlike the ep3 which you could adjust mid turn. the only car to beat the type R lap time was the clio200cup.

@@respirotyper929 Basic Physics and logic. With Type R you can also see a trend:
Example:
96 Spec Integra Type R - tail happy and loves lift oversteer, very little understeer generally
98 Spec Integra Type R: less tail happy, more stable, more understeer
and that trend has progressed until the FK8 came out, which reduced understeer with a fancy active diff and really wide tires again.
While calling the FD2 the best is arguable, I agree. But I think with the same tires, an older Type R like the EP3 would have less understeer generally, simply due to less weight and a more loose setup.

Nah, the FD2 can carry more speed through mid-highspeed corners. In lowspeed corners old Type Rs will excel though.

The FN2 is such an ugly eyesore. It could pull 0-60 in half the time of the FD2 and it'd still be worth nothing to me. What an insult to the British market (ironically the same people that made these bloody Honda's in Swindon!). Disgusting.
