well,if that’s the case statistically it’s possible for India to have the highest per capita income and still have 95% people below poverty line let’s say if one person has 50 trillion dollars our per capita will be more than china but still nothing will change. I guess what you really want to say is wealth disparity?
Total GDP is much more important as the money that Ambani or Adani have is not ideal money like someone who has 1 lac saving the money they have (of course apart from a certain %) is used in economy and create jobs. If you consider US as an ideal state, the wealth disparity between elon musk and an average income household is proportional to Ambani and Indian households
Coming to nominal gdp, it’s not his much India has but regulates how much government can spend on its people, military, infrastructure, health etc.
US is powerful because I’d dollars which they print and as correctly said by trump US will reduce to a 3rd world country if de dollarisation happens and countries start to trade in their own currencies and use gold.

the Indians think they are white once the white Kaliyug smile upon them
Lord MacAulay's address to the British Parliament 2 February 1835: I have traveled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief, Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native self-culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation.

He was never forgotten! He *is* forgotten today in India. He was a professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, a place where the best minds in India have worked. It's just that India equates this gem of an institute with disdain. Professors at MIT know more about ISI Kolkata than anyone in India. THAT is the reason you think he is forgotten. Some of the most famous papers written at this place are revered and available from every reputable library in foreign universities (including, for example, papers by P C Mahalanobis, the founder of ISI in Kolkata). But you will never be able to find these research papers in any Indian university library. Saying that he is forgotten is sort of like saying someone "discovered" America. No .... **India** has forgotten him. Other academic places of excellence outside India have not.

A case that is quite similar to Gregori Perelman a Russian mathematician and geometer who is known for his contributions to the fields of geometric analysis, Riemannian geometry, and geometric topology. In 2005, Perelman resigned from his research post in Steklov Institute of Mathematics and in 2006 stated that he had quit professional mathematics, owing to feeling disappointed over the ethical standards in the field. He lives in seclusion in Saint Petersburg and has declined requests for interviews since 2006.

Mathematicians are particularly wedded to thinking and can think about a given problem, a particular problem for hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades. There are some problems that I have thought about ever since I was an math degree student, and I think about them most days, certainly most weeks.
And I can think about them for a few hours if I'm walking along on path.
So my thinking is an essential part of my mathematical process, and it's very creative part because one is really trying to explore the possible in one's mind.

As a person living in Ranchi and as a bihari he is a living legend often heard his stories from my father. My father used to say his wife was not that much literate and she burnt his thesis papers and theories which he made which made him plunge into depression and poor mental state. And after that he became mentally unfit after a span of time. But he was a genius everyone says that.

Bihar government also does nothing just like they didn't do anything for vasisth narayan.
So called national media/narth india conveniently ignores the issue and looses it's shit even if it rains continuously for 1 day in other states/cities.

I know this is going to be an unpopular comment, because his story is very emotional.
But...PadmaShree for what? Being an extremely bright student?
He was awarded under the "Science and Engineering" category, but I'm not aware of any seminal discoveries/contributions he made as a mathematician.
He got a Maths PhD from Berkeley, as do many others, albeit at the young age of 23. Beyond that his career was cut very short because of the debilitating disease of schizophrenia.
Btw, the bit about him "challenging Einstein's Theory of Relativity" has no basis in reality, it's a hoax.
He was no doubt a prodigy that achieved more than most of us will, but hope it is clear what my comment is getting at.

I wonder if he suffered from schizophrenia throughout his life and if this “odd behavior” his ex wife described was the schizophrenia. If so, that’s sad and he deserved a much better partner who wouldn’t leave him when he’s struggling. Considering how he was found near her village, he must have still loved her. This is tragic. at least he died with his brother caring for him.

Clearly remember a dirty, disheveled man in rags seated hunched on the ground drawing geometric shapes in the dirt and saying incoherent things unrelated to the interviewers questions. Couldn't help wonder this was a genius who has lost his wits. Sad.
