My Quest 3 came yesterday.... ohhhh yessss... (of course include in budget updated head strap, prescription lenses, etc.) Obviously, huge visual improvement and responsiveness seems clearly more responsive even doing things like Walkabout Golf. On the Quest 2 I didn't like some of the drumming rhythm games, but... woah! They seem to work fine for me on the Quest 3! And as someone who is so casual I'm one of those who jump around among games the increase from 64 to 512 GB is already wonderful. I have lots of Meta games from early on. First experience of color pass through and mixed reality is a total "make me smile". Seeing that spaceship come through the ceiling with landing lights was an "Oh Yes!" lol! I am so glad VR is alive and kicking!

I upgraded from quest 1 to quest 3 lol The jump was so drastic but so so so worth it. I wish mine had batman on it, I bought it pre-order before it was actually out!
I'm about to play some NMS, I just read an article explaining how to set up a Hotas and motion controls at the same time. I'm very hyped for my play through, I didn't mind the pitch and yaw using motion controllers but this will be so much better.

You've got the right idea, amigo. Triple A style games is exactly what VR gaming needs right now. My addiction to Gran Turismo 7 while using the PSVR2 headset is proof enough.
One of my favorite VR mods is the Half Life 2 VR mod. For a game that is over 20 years old now, entering into it in VR feels like a whole new game and it has proper VR interactions. Absolutely freaking awesome!
Assassin's Creed Nexus was, by definition, a AAA title on Quest, likely similar to the AGW2 budget. It was a full Assassin's Creed game on mobile hardware.
@@cjclos3258 but i still think a vr mode of resident evil like capcom do can do benefit if selling like a dlc from the main flat screen game on pc and psvr2. It would cost a lot to play but the replayability is higher than average.

This goes some way to explain why nearly every game I look at, looks more like a tech demo than a detailed, fully fleshed out game. I only hope that we'll start to see a lot more AAA games like the new Batman and Behemoth 🤞
Most of these are older titles. VR hasn't really come a long way in the last few years. I still remember Alyx and thinking we'd leap frogged a generation.
VR has side stepped because of standalone. Going from the power of a Full on gaming PC to a mobile chipset has a huge impact on games. But PCVR was not affordable to most people and the quest is impressive for what it is. But I think over the next year with the drop of Quest 2 support wee will see some great new titles.
@@linzkirk 100%. My biggest mistake was playing Alyx as one of my first VR games. Still some great quest 2/3 games, but still nothing visually compares. That said, after watching this video, I'll likely pick up Batman after all.
@@le10017 My 1st was Lone echo, also visually stunning & that was in 2017. You can imagine what I thought future VR would be like in 5 years and it wasn't gorilla tag and Facebook horizons. Youre right about Quest. After Alyx the next time I got that immersion wow feel was Horizon on PSVR2 & resident Evil 4 & GT7. People slag PSVR 2 and yes a lot of things they say a true, small sweet spot on fresnel lenses etc, but that all falls away when you play a great game on it especially with head haptics and adaptive triggers. But I wounded advise getting it unless you already own a PS5. Metro has blown me away on PCVR, behemoth was not as good as the hype, but I think it will get patched to be a great game. thank god for people modding vr into flatscreen games. the hl2 mod is sooo good. i enjoy the gameplay quite a bit more than alyx. alyx was too safe with the difficulty and hard mode just made everything bullet sponges instead of making them faster/more aggressive. i just played jedi academy on vr 2 days ago and beat the game in 1 sitting. things like this is what will get VR into more mainstream. especially when people realize just how easy it is to get most of the vr mods to work. I got outer wilds vr mod yesterday and it was literally 4 clicks to get it working

METRO AWAKENING VR? I enjoyed it as much as Half Life Alyx, or any of the others you guys mentioned. I am soo happy to see new titles being done properly. One of my favorite that got downgarded by Downpour interactive or actually Facebook is Onward 1.7.... I oved it. Happy gaming everybody

@christopherbrunson1232 I've owned 17 vr headsets. For years it was the Valve Index but as of right now it's the quest 3. pancake lenses are unbeatable. I thought the top was going to be my bigscreen beyond but that headset has really bad edge to edge clarity. The psvr2 is my second favorite right now but they made some weird decisions
I’m still rocking my quest two. I really want to buy a quest 3 or 3 s. but I think I’m gonna wait until a few months into next year after all these new games come out and get patches and are in their best shape.

I know I am one month late but one game that has a vr port is very good. The forest has a vr mode for pcvr only. It has been in beta for so long now since the game has been abandoned for the sequel but is still a good game to this day.
I like Sony's strategy of crossover games like Hitman and RE8. where most of the budget is already paid for they just need to bring it into VR. That's the only way we'er going to get AAA games into VR.

I loved Medal of Honor and wish they would optimise it for Quest 3 and get it closer to the PC version , I loved storming the beaches on Normandy and it needs some special attention
MSFS 2024 has official VR support so will be probably the most expensive VR game ever released, although with the obvious caveat that it's the PC flatscreen and Xbox communites that make for its existence. Still, it will be what I'm mainly playing through 2025.
Insomniac Games did have a bit of VR experience before Stormland, which is why I think Meta approached them. The had a couple games on Rift and a couple on the Magic Leap One, which I had never heard of until I looked more into Insomniac. Stormland's rouge-lite gameplay loop would have been more successful if the game was more flushed out. The weapon and enemy types are just too limited, and no bosses. I thought the story was compelling and the gameplay is some of my favorite in VR, but it feels really repetitive after 2 cycles of the game, and you really need at least 3 to see most of the primary lore.
Astrobot deserves a mention. I'm not sure on it's budget but it was a fully fledged vr platformers. I know there are others like moss and Trover but nothing quite upto to the level and imagionation used in Astrobot.
I loved Stormland as a single player shooter, but it had too much fog resulting in muddy graphics for Airlink / Streamed PCVR. That game should be redone with a cell shaded motif and it would be great on Q3.
Only thing that is missing now is a GTA VR game, wish the developers would make one, its about time for that game to come out, the last good VR game to come out was Half Life Alyx, four years ago
Man i hate that Arcana was send to the Bethesda mines, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and Dishonored would be such great titles if you added some expansions based on what you can do with VR

Tbh if it wasn't for Meta I don't think VR would have grown as much as it has. I got interested in vr because of quest 3 and so many other people have too.

And to be honest, has the last 8 years been fun?? There has been alot of waiting for more and better games, and you could say we are still waiting. The lineup for game releases in the next couple of months are amazing! We have never seen such a great lineup ever in vr, so what better time to join vr?? Well, The games you mention in this video are restricted playing PS platforms or inside a dedicated VR headset. Myself, I do STEAM games on my PC and recently with the Quest 3 via a link cable. I have always just done PCVR games, will always do so, and do not have a Play Station or want to play games on a mobile phone. There are many good recent PCVR games that rank right up there with ones mentioned in this video. I always try to catch on my STEAM games on sale. I really like the games I have and still learning them. One you mention is Alyx Half Life on STEAM. Far as SIM racing games, there are very good STEAM PC racing games that are just as good or better than Play Station Gran Turismo 7 game. I do SIM racing all the time, either online competitively, or doing racing games offline against AI cars. The category of games I have are Formula 1, Nascar, Indycar, GT racing, and Rally racing games. All are awesome in in VR. Thanks for the video. Take care.
The games you're referring to are restricted the PCVR ecosystem.....see what I did there? The original, non-vr budget for GT7 takes it over and above other racers in terms of content and production value.
I got the Quest 3s 256 for 399 and I was able to login with my old meta account so I got all my old games. The quest 3 came with batman and one of the two games available this month for quest plus was down the rabbit hole based off alice in wonderland. Pretty cool 😎 👌I thought because I was getting batman that means you have to buy asgards Wrath 2 but it's actually redeemable so that's included which is even cooler
I’d argue Star Wars Squadrons is a AAA experience. Hitman Trilogy Elite Lone Echo games MS flight sim F1 games Asgards Wrath 1 (my preferred of the two) Skyrim and Fallout are worthy of a mention I’d pick any of those over Medal of Honor
Fallout and Skyrim are only good in VR if you have a fuckton of mods installed. you need at least 20 mods installed to get Skyrim to function like a modern VR title.
They are unofficial mods so not funded at all. He's talking about funded AAA VR games. You could count Skyrim, Fallout, MSFS as they all have official ports, although they weren't really funded for VR obviously, and only exist because of the PC and console markets.

Is Meta the only one putting money on it? Has Valve given up? Skyrim VR needs a special mention, as vanilla is almost a finger in our faces from Bethesda, but with mods it's amazing. I guess you count TWD Saints and Sinners' and Lone Echo's series as AA?
I don't really like any of these... I just played Green Hell and it was amaizing but ist jutt like coparing GTA Vice City to GTA 5... And since those VR titles are like 10 years back in time I already know whats possible in just a few years, but for now they are ok and still my best gaming experiences to this day. My favourite games where Resident Evil 7 which was just mindblowing... Green Hell is also amaizing for koop and there are just a few games with coop out there... But the game was verry downgraded to the pc version and quite buggy. Last one was Walking Dead Saints and Sinners, also no koopsupport..... Best physics I've experienced in VR so far. If you like CS or COD, Contractors ist also amaizing. The weaponhandling feels so real and with hundrets of mods you can even play COD Zombies and much more...
I am looking for the BEST VR set. Obviously searched on UA-cam, but that only made it more difficult, as reviewers contradict themselves. One correctly praises the headset, which the other absolutely denounces. Which one would you recommend me, budget doesn't matter at all, because I'd rather spend more, than buy another one after a month. Thanks for these recommendations of games :) I am an Escape From Tarkov player, so I like realistic shooting games, are there any good games in this genre?
Having the PS5 for VR is by far the worst choice, Sure you get some good 4 or 5 games But you miss a ton more, that are only on Quest and PCVR Plus, wire sucks
It's definitely not a bad option. If someone already has a ps5 I'd say it's an easy recommendation if they like the games on it. For someone coming into vr for the first time, the library is fantastic!

Skyrim. Nothing impressed me more and I spent longer playing Skyrim VR than any of the flat screen versions. Sure, that tomb looks cool on flat screen, but in VR the sense of scale is MUCH more impressive. When you look up at some of the architecture in game, you REALLY look up, and it keeps going and you're like "Wow, I did not realize how big this was before!" It's too bad Fallout 4 VR was such a turd in comparison.
skyrim vr on pc with madgods overhaul is actually on some future man stuff i didnt know it was possible but you need an insane pc for it especially for mantella which puts gpt 4o into every npc wild stuff

I can't believe that to this day, Half-Life: Alyx is still the best of the best, without that game, I'm not even sure I'd take the plunge to begin with.

There is something that has never been discussed in the world of VR: have you noticed that in VR, when we are close to celestial bodies in outer space, the impression we get is actually that of being in front of miniatures of them? For example, if we are in orbit around a planet, we see something resembling a ball the size of a building ten meters away; if in front of a galaxy, we see a cloud of dust occupying an area no larger than that of any room in the house. And so it goes with any other cases in this context. There is, in short, no real sense of immensity, which I find very frustrating. Given this, are you aware of any actions by the developers to address this (apparent?) problem?
When you look at the moon it looks bigger than pin-sized stars, as it should be. What is your idea of 'immensity'? Yes, a galaxy of many stars far away will look very small compared with the size of a planet you are orbiting, look at the Earth from the orbit, it's pretty big. What is exactly the problem that (apparently) not many people are aware of?
Im not sure what you are referring to. But maybe you can chase this down yourself. At really big distances, our binocular vision just doesn't work. Our eyes are too close together and if you are looking at objects that are 100k KMs away, you're not really going to get an sense of depth. So it would be as 'immersive' as a flat screen. This is a physics limitation of how far apart eyes are. Another thing is the way most VR stuff works is there is a "focal depth" to them, for instance PSVR2 is about 6 meters away, this affects how your eyes focus and why people who are nearsited benefit from wearing prescription lens to look at screens an inch from their face. If there's a focal depth, it stands to reason there is a range around it that is optimal for the optics just like real cameras. This is a physics limitation of light. Along with the focal depth and actual physics of light, there is the impacts of what having a "focal depth" could have. Almost like you are staring at an immersive diorama in front of you. Its not static in the traditional shoebox diorama kind of way, its dynamic in that if you move, you are effectively moving this virtual diorama bounding box in front of you. This is a lot like the Real3D films you see in the theater, visually its like the screen is the edge of a stage, and the stage only has so much depth, vs IMax3D which is mostly a flat plane with stuff popping OUT of the screen towards you. This is more of a technical limitation, so there wouldn't really be anything making it impossible to transform the screen to make it better other than taking up WAY too much processing power. So Im not sure if it's any of, or all of these things that affect what you are experiencing, but its a good place to start.
@@mitcherny6965 When mentioning this problem, I am referring, let it be emphasized, solely to the situation of being in outer space, more specifically in the orbit of planets and suns, or close (on an astronomical scale) to other celestial bodies (galaxies, nebulas, etc.), so that we can see them without the need for a telescope. Therefore, the example of the Moon seen from Earth does not count, since we are not in its orbit. With this introduction made, note that your observation is based on the real world and, yes, we see such objects as you described. However, if we observe exactly the same images in VR, the scale of the objects inserted in them decreases significantly, and the impression we have is that these objects are only ten or twenty meters away, and not at astronomical distances in the real world; a bit more, and we could touch them with our hands in VR. Hence the impression of them being mere miniatures, even though they are miniatures the size of a house or a baseball stadium. Everything else in VR works normally regarding scale. I don't know why this happens, but this is the clear impression I have. It is not possible that I am the only one to have this perception.

But what I see in the context mentioned above, when in VR, is that they are incredibly close, tens of meters away, in this case. As for the second paragraph, I don't understand what focal depth is in the context of VR technology, but I have the intuition that, if so, the problem I am presenting here should occur in other situations outside the exclusive context I mentioned, which I have never observed. In the last paragraph, which also involves technical issues I am not familiar with, you ended up giving an example that I identified with: diorama. But in the specific "landscape" context of the beginning of this text, it's not a shoebox diorama of planets that I see, but a giant diorama of them. I hope with this last observation, I am not confusing more than explaining. Anyway, these are my thoughts on what you presented. Either way, if I am correct in my impressions, I hope the devs will one day resolve this.

Youre right about Quest. After Alyx the next time I got that immersion wow feel was Horizon on PSVR2 & resident Evil 4 & GT7. People slag PSVR 2 and yes a lot of things they say a true, small sweet spot on fresnel lenses etc, but that all falls away when you play a great game on it especially with head haptics and adaptive triggers. But I wounded advise getting it unless you already own a PS5.
Metro has blown me away on PCVR, behemoth was not as good as the hype, but I think it will get patched to be a great game.

thank god for people modding vr into flatscreen games. the hl2 mod is sooo good. i enjoy the gameplay quite a bit more than alyx. alyx was too safe with the difficulty and hard mode just made everything bullet sponges instead of making them faster/more aggressive. i just played jedi academy on vr 2 days ago and beat the game in 1 sitting. things like this is what will get VR into more mainstream. especially when people realize just how easy it is to get most of the vr mods to work. I got outer wilds vr mod yesterday and it was literally 4 clicks to get it working

@christopherbrunson1232 I've owned 17 vr headsets. For years it was the Valve Index but as of right now it's the quest 3. pancake lenses are unbeatable. I thought the top was going to be my bigscreen beyond but that headset has really bad edge to edge clarity. The psvr2 is my second favorite right now but they made some weird decisions

I know I am one month late but one game that has a vr port is very good.
The forest has a vr mode for pcvr only. It has been in beta for so long now since the game has been abandoned for the sequel but is still a good game to this day.
I like Sony's strategy of crossover games like Hitman and RE8. where most of the budget is already paid for they just need to bring it into VR.
That's the only way we'er going to get AAA games into VR.

I loved Medal of Honor and wish they would optimise it for Quest 3 and get it closer to the PC version , I loved storming the beaches on Normandy and it needs some special attention

MSFS 2024 has official VR support so will be probably the most expensive VR game ever released, although with the obvious caveat that it's the PC flatscreen and Xbox communites that make for its existence. Still, it will be what I'm mainly playing through 2025.

Yup as I mentioned
Insomniac Games did have a bit of VR experience before Stormland, which is why I think Meta approached them. The had a couple games on Rift and a couple on the Magic Leap One, which I had never heard of until I looked more into Insomniac. Stormland's rouge-lite gameplay loop would have been more successful if the game was more flushed out. The weapon and enemy types are just too limited, and no bosses. I thought the story was compelling and the gameplay is some of my favorite in VR, but it feels really repetitive after 2 cycles of the game, and you really need at least 3 to see most of the primary lore.

Astrobot deserves a mention. I'm not sure on it's budget but it was a fully fledged vr platformers. I know there are others like moss and Trover but nothing quite upto to the level and imagionation used in Astrobot.

I loved Stormland as a single player shooter, but it had too much fog resulting in muddy graphics for Airlink / Streamed PCVR. That game should be redone with a cell shaded motif and it would be great on Q3.
Only thing that is missing now is a GTA VR game, wish the developers would make one, its about time for that game to come out, the last good VR game to come out was Half Life Alyx, four years ago

Well, The games you mention in this video are restricted playing PS platforms or inside a dedicated VR headset. Myself, I do STEAM games on my PC and recently with the Quest 3 via a link cable. I have always just done PCVR games, will always do so, and do not have a Play Station or want to play games on a mobile phone.
There are many good recent PCVR games that rank right up there with ones mentioned in this video. I always try to catch on my STEAM games on sale. I really like the games I have and still learning them. One you mention is Alyx Half Life on STEAM.
Far as SIM racing games, there are very good STEAM PC racing games that are just as good or better than Play Station Gran Turismo 7 game. I do SIM racing all the time, either online competitively, or doing racing games offline against AI cars. The category of games I have are Formula 1, Nascar, Indycar, GT racing, and Rally racing games. All are awesome in in VR.

The games you're referring to are restricted the PCVR ecosystem.....see what I did there? The original, non-vr budget for GT7 takes it over and above other racers in terms of content and production value.
I got the Quest 3s 256 for 399 and I was able to login with my old meta account so I got all my old games. The quest 3 came with batman and one of the two games available this month for quest plus was down the rabbit hole based off alice in wonderland. Pretty cool 😎 👌I thought because I was getting batman that means you have to buy asgards Wrath 2 but it's actually redeemable so that's included which is even cooler

Fallout and Skyrim are only good in VR if you have a fuckton of mods installed. you need at least 20 mods installed to get Skyrim to function like a modern VR title.

They are unofficial mods so not funded at all. He's talking about funded AAA VR games. You could count Skyrim, Fallout, MSFS as they all have official ports, although they weren't really funded for VR obviously, and only exist because of the PC and console markets.

So, is PC VR Dead? Is Meta the only one putting money on it? Has Valve given up? Skyrim VR needs a special mention, as vanilla is almost a finger in our faces from Bethesda, but with mods it's amazing. I guess you count TWD Saints and Sinners' and Lone Echo's series as AA?
I don't really like any of these... I just played Green Hell and it was amaizing but ist jutt like coparing GTA Vice City to GTA 5... And since those VR titles are like 10 years back in time I already know whats possible in just a few years, but for now they are ok and still my best gaming experiences to this day. My favourite games where Resident Evil 7 which was just mindblowing... Green Hell is also amaizing for koop and there are just a few games with coop out there... But the game was verry downgraded to the pc version and quite buggy. Last one was Walking Dead Saints and Sinners, also no koopsupport..... Best physics I've experienced in VR so far. If you like CS or COD, Contractors ist also amaizing. The weaponhandling feels so real and with hundrets of mods you can even play COD Zombies and much more...
I am looking for the BEST VR set. Obviously searched on UA-cam, but that only made it more difficult, as reviewers contradict themselves. One correctly praises the headset, which the other absolutely denounces. Which one would you recommend me, budget doesn't matter at all, because I'd rather spend more, than buy another one after a month. Borderlands 2 and Skyrim VR are fantastic. Have you played them.
Skyrim. Nothing impressed me more and I spent longer playing Skyrim VR than any of the flat screen versions. Sure, that tomb looks cool on flat screen, but in VR the sense of scale is MUCH more impressive. When you look up at some of the architecture in game, you REALLY look up, and it keeps going and you're like "Wow, I did not realize how big this was before!"
It's too bad Fallout 4 VR was such a turd in comparison.

Hello. There is something that has never been discussed in the world of VR: have you noticed that in VR, when we are close to celestial bodies in outer space, the impression we get is actually that of being in front of miniatures of them? For example, if we are in orbit around a planet, we see something resembling a ball the size of a building ten meters away; if in front of a galaxy, we see a cloud of dust occupying an area no larger than that of any room in the house. And so it goes with any other cases in this context. There is, in short, no real sense of immensity, which I find very frustrating. Given this, are you aware of any actions by the developers to address this (apparent?) problem?
When you look at the moon it looks bigger than pin-sized stars, as it should be. What is your idea of 'immensity'? Yes, a galaxy of many stars far away will look very small compared with the size of a planet you are orbiting, look at the Earth from the orbit, it's pretty big. What is exactly the problem that (apparently) not many people are aware of?
Im not sure what you are referring to. But maybe you can chase this down yourself. At really big distances, our binocular vision just doesn't work. Our eyes are too close together and if you are looking at objects that are 100k KMs away, you're not really going to get an sense of depth. So it would be as 'immersive' as a flat screen. This is a physics limitation of how far apart eyes are.
Another thing is the way most VR stuff works is there is a "focal depth" to them, for instance PSVR2 is about 6 meters away, this affects how your eyes focus and why people who are nearsited benefit from wearing prescription lens to look at screens an inch from their face. If there's a focal depth, it stands to reason there is a range around it that is optimal for the optics just like real cameras. This is a physics limitation of light.
Along with the focal depth and actual physics of light, there is the impacts of what having a "focal depth" could have. Almost like you are staring at an immersive diorama in front of you. Its not static in the traditional shoebox diorama kind of way, its dynamic in that if you move, you are effectively moving this virtual diorama bounding box in front of you. This is a lot like the Real3D films you see in the theater, visually its like the screen is the edge of a stage, and the stage only has so much depth, vs IMax3D which is mostly a flat plane with stuff popping OUT of the screen towards you. This is more of a technical limitation, so there wouldn't really be anything making it impossible to transform the screen to make it better other than taking up WAY too much processing power.
So Im not sure if it's any of, or all of these things that affect what you are experiencing, but its a good place to start.
@@mitcherny6965 When mentioning this problem, I am referring, let it be emphasized, solely to the situation of being in outer space, more specifically in the orbit of planets and suns, or close (on an astronomical scale) to other celestial bodies (galaxies, nebulas, etc.), so that we can see them without the need for a telescope. Therefore, the example of the Moon seen from Earth does not count, since we are not in its orbit. With this introduction made, note that your observation is based on the real world and, yes, we see such objects as you described. However, if we observe exactly the same images in VR, the scale of the objects inserted in them decreases significantly, and the impression we have is that these objects are only ten or twenty meters away, and not at astronomical distances in the real world; a bit more, and we could touch them with our hands in VR. Hence the impression of them being mere miniatures, even though they are miniatures the size of a house or a baseball stadium. Everything else in VR works normally regarding scale. I don't know why this happens, but this is the clear impression I have. It is not possible that I am the only one to have this perception.
@@mitcherny6965 Maybe it will become clearer by watching certain clips with planets from the movie "The Little Prince", 1974, (consider only the scale, obviously). The feeling is similar to that.
@@CCat1 Contextually, the observation location must always be outer space, not Earth, and specifically, only planets and suns within their orbits are considered, or other celestial bodies such as galaxies, nebulas etc., when they are nearby (on an astronomical scale!), so that we can see them without the need for a telescope. This is because it is always under these circumstances that the problem resides.
Regarding the first paragraph, yes, I understand. But what I see in the context mentioned above, when in VR, is that they are incredibly close, tens of meters away, in this case.
As for the second paragraph, I don't understand what focal depth is in the context of VR technology, but I have the intuition that, if so, the problem I am presenting here should occur in other situations outside the exclusive context I mentioned, which I have never observed.
In the last paragraph, which also involves technical issues I am not familiar with, you ended up giving an example that I identified with: diorama. But in the specific "landscape" context of the beginning of this text, it's not a shoebox diorama of planets that I see, but a giant diorama of them. I hope with this last observation, I am not confusing more than explaining.
Anyway, these are my thoughts on what you presented. Either way, if I am correct in my impressions, I hope the devs will one day resolve this.
