Looks like new. Have to love a simple fix and some good preventative maintenance changing that regulator. Looking forward to your next video. The community tab is handy, just keep in mind it takes about a week after your 1000 subs before it comes active. Good luck getting there, with content like this I'm sure it will be easy.
That’s a good alternative for an expensive Turbo Booster. Where did you purchase the audio/video booster adapter for the Turbografx console? Is it safe to operate for long term use? I’m concerned if it would shorten the life of the TG16.
Thanks! Doing my best with limited time. The recording and editing just takes a very significant chunk of the process. It’s often not even the repair itself which is difficult
got some more in the works, just recording and editing takes a lot of time, and with a very busy job, it’s hard to find a lot of that these days :( will keep trying to do more though!
In general I'm a fan of replacing them - don't forget these (and similar 16-bit machines) are turning 25/30 years old. Even if they still work fine, it's a good idea to just future proof them for another new 25/30 years in my opinion!
Nice find. The CD add-ons for NECs are awesome. They look so cool and have some awesome games. Castlevania Rondo of Blood, never played it but I listen to the OST all the time. Waiting to play it on real hardware one day. Worth picking one up just for that game alone.
you can, however you’d need to make sure it’s not shorted before turning it on. And even if it shows proper voltage, it’s hard to tell how long in the future they will still last. It’s a piece of hardware that endures quite a lot of electronical beating. Remember it convert power into heat, and prolonged heating diminishes a components lifetime. In cases like these I’d simply rather be safe then sorry, if the input or output short to ground, you can damage the custom IC’s which will set you back a lot further.
yeah, they’ve been tested in well over 50 devices worldwide now, and have all held up really well! The files are available for free, your easiest way is to find a local hacker-/makerspace and get these made there. www.prusaprinters.org/prints/79121-nec-pc-engine-cd-rom2-replacement-gear
using a more modern linear regulator does not change the heat that it produces. the real modern approach would be to use a modern four-switch-buck-boost dc/dc converter or at least a buck converter. they are much more efficient which means that they do not get that hot and do not draw that much power from the power supply. also they have protection from over voltage and over current.
I have experimented with those in the past (grabted a long time ago!) and found they arent as efficient as they claim, and also introduce a lot of noise on the power lines (not saying the current situation doesnt have noise, but linear regulators seemed more excessive). Would you perhaps be able to point me to a good source for these?
Hey I had a turbo grapics from childhood.. my buddy picked up retro gaming while Iv been into modern stuff.. anyway I gifted him a turbo grapics 16… my turbo.. it worked about ten years ago.. well now it’s dead.. anyway Iv been having a hard time finding someone to fix it.. obviously Iam willing to pay.

I see you there, Strip Fighter II :)
Nice work!
SD card came with this ED pre-installed with games... Not that it would have stopped me from adding it, hahahha

Thanks dude. Appreciate this. I've got 2 of these waiting for some love so you sharing this knowledge is perfect.
Good luck man! Keep us posted how things went, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask here as well - I try to reply asap usually :)
Happy birthday man! Love your videos, hope to see them more often!

Happy birthday, good sir!!!
Thank you!!
Those old game consoles are tanks built to take hard-core gaming
can i use a sega genesis power supply for my turbo 16?
Dank je voor wederom een erg leerzame en lekker wegkijkende video :)
love your channel! Would definitely love to see more content coming

Great work and thank goodness for a fairly straightforward fix. Do any other of the electrolytic caps usually require replacing, as well?

I have a Duo (pc-e) to do next, on which I’ll be playing rondo ;D Waiting on a custom RGB mod board I made, so I can work on that one!
@@RetroGameRevival So tempted to get one but I've been spending an irresponsible amount of money on Retro PC hardware recently :) .
I know it can be risky but could you test the 7805 by reading its input and output voltages?

I saw that you printed gears for the CDROM2 drive. Did those end up working for you and if so, would you be willing to sell a few?

@@RetroGameRevival thank you very much. I just so happen to know someone who wants to test out a new resin printer.
Well done 👍
Dope content. ☺️🎮
Do you know anybody that reprogram the Supergrafx games for the Pc engine or Turbografx 16
Did great! More PC Engine, MOAR.

@@RetroGameRevival i am not familiar with finished solutions but i know that Microchip has lots of those
Is that snoring in the background? Does my wife come to your house too?! lol
yeah, but unless your wife is very small, and actually a french bulldog, I dont think that’s her 😂
i did get back and pause.lol.....
