If you’ve never seen the most awesome film Highway, this song is in the introduction and how I was introduced to the wonderful world of Joshua Homme and co.
Has anyone else recognized Mad Max references in old Josh Homme material? Johnny the Boy is a character from the first Mad Max movie. The Bronze is a reference to an Australian slang term for bronze police badges
Possibly my dream lineup... Brant and Fredo - the undisputed kings of the desert rock drum sound. Ben Sheppard holding down the low end. And Josh and McBain together.
Favourite guitar based rock song of the past twenty years. Among my top stories six lightning in a bottle rock and roll tracks of all time. Loose and groove laden, that's how I like it! Josh Homme & John McBain are an absolute match.
This is my favourite rock album of my era. I'm 39 now and never was huge on Nirvana. Love pillaging the sixties and seventies for the plateau of rock. There have been a few gems along the way: Melvins, Monster Magnet (Spine Of God-Dopes To Infinity), and Queens Of the Stone Age of course. To me this is my ideal rock sound. Thanks for the upload.
My favorite record of all time as well! It's raw, it's driving, it's mysterious. It is the definition of desert rock in my opinion. I lived near that scene as a kid but didn't know about it then.
What strikes me is they always said they came from punk rock. Even Fu Manchu. Yet they founded the Stoner Scene. Which I fell in love with. But now years later, I have discovered to more raw, fast rock and roll and fun and crazy shit. And first desert sessions and even mondo generation got to me a lot lately
Will it be before or after the new tool? edit* We have new Tool. Still no 11 and 12... It's official, Desert Sessions is dead.. edit* I take that back..Fucking wow.........
old thread but homme is credited as just “backup vocals” for sons of kyuss and wretch, not sure which songs though. in some old videos of kyuss 90/91 josh sings backup. i think it sounds like brant or nick in writhe but it could be josh. when scott joined they rarely did backup vocals from then on but there is a video of scott and john singing el rodeo. ive also seen a post somewhere saying they were at a kyuss show (i guess some time 92-95, probably 95 since nick can sing) where john supposedly greened out and josh covered his songs and sang them. first released vocals, however, is the “our way” cover. josh sings in a super looney voice and it’s great. then it’s gamma ray with if only/hula. next in line is johnny the boy and screamin eagle, but its known that the wellwater conspiracy songs are pretty old so who knows maybe there’s a demo out there of them where josh sings.
Like Clockwork is a masterpiece and Villians has great writing but a not so great mix, thus a lot of songs sound way better live. Regardless just because they are different doesn't mean they are bad, give them a few more listens and they'll creep up in your head eventually. A huge majority of Josh's music are total slow burners you just have to give them a chance.
@@zgamer1154 clockwork and villains was mixed by the same guy. it was just josh's creative differences, and imo Villains has the perfect mix for it's content

I could listen to stuff like this every day for the rest of my life. Never gets old. Just rocking ahead, waving the Freak Flag! No mercy

Oh yeah.
Desert rock. Mad Max.
It's totally a thing...
How this never made a Queen's record is beyond me. This would've ruled on Rated R or Self Titled.
Possibly my dream lineup...
Brant and Fredo - the undisputed kings of the desert rock drum sound.
Ben Sheppard holding down the low end.
And Josh and McBain together.
Best desert rock lineup ever.
