not sure which persian you're referring to but dark skinned egyptians were right. google egyptians and see what they look like today. the reason you think they're light skinned is movies about egyptian were made in the west and they make them white just like how jesus is white in western christianity. in ancient egypt, even the greek ruling class would've been dark skinned just like they are today in modern greece. now having said this, dark skin doesnt equal what we think of as black. to us, blacks are subsaharan africans. egyptians didnt have subsaharan african facial features.
It always bothered me how the main character in the new Prince of Persia gane doesn't look Persian/ Iranian at all. Still a good game...but always found it jarring the character design
@@DiamondhandsForeverQuick corrections, Persians are not black, Egyptians are, however they were colonized and subjugated by Arabs and so a majority of Egyptians are not black anymore, but the indigenous ones are are black. Cleopatra was Egyptian of Greek descent so Netflix making a documentary of her where she’s black is appropriation, (government of Egypt sued Netflix). Jesus is only white in Europe, however Jesus is black in Ethiopia and Asian in Vietnam and Native American in Mexico. Different people and cultures making Jesus look like themselves is a way of different people to personalize Jesus. There is no racialized ideology behind it. Now getting back to the context of this video, DEI does not establish original black characters or storylines, it appropriates and erases other cultures, peoples and stories by pasting a black face on it. It’s not original or accurate or honest, and that’s why we are against it, if your going to make a video game (in a series known for historical accuracy) about Japanese samurai in the Middle Ages number 1, use actual Japanese people so your not engaging in appropriation and replacism, and number 2. women weren’t samurai’s, so we have 2 mistruths here, number 1 is a black samurai, I think this can be solved by Ubisoft clarifying that it’s based on the real person Yasuke, who was an African in Japan at the time (for 3 years) but wasn’t a Samurai, he was a servant to Daimyo Oda Nobunaga, so even if clarifying the character it would still be untrue, and number 2, a female samurai (women were not allowed to become samurai in feudal Japan same way as women were not allowed to be knights in Europe. This is all being done due to ideology and erases accuracy and truth. So we have many reasons to be against it. Notice no one complained about AC3 using a Native American assassins, or AC4 DLC having a black slave as its main character, or AC Origins having a black indigenous Egyptian as its character. We only complain when there’s an ulterior motive and ideological reasoning behind replacing and appropriating peoples history and culture. Hope this helps you understand.

I’m Persian, and rarely do I ever see any Persians being represented in any video games. If ever. Once in a millennia you get a prince of Persia type game where Persians can be represented. It seems like no ethnicity, race or culture is exempt from being turned black. Isn’t that disrespectful to Persians or am I just crazy?
Exactly. At that time if you were not born a Samurai you had to perform a great service to your current ruler to be raised to the rank of samurai. He is nothing like Hideyoshi who came from a farmers upbringing to be raised to the status of Samurai.
Facts. The only reason why he wasn't killed was because Nobunaga was curious about his black skin. He was basically kept as a pet because he was a novelty and nothing more. The title of retainer was literally bestowed on him just to keep others from killing him for being strange. That's the truth of it.
Yasuke, as a slave, could have never been allowed to wear a full set of samurai armor. Also, a female ninja, but the outfit looks like came from China. this is totally a western view of Japan/east in terms of appropriation.
It’s like even in kabuki.. women weren’t even allowed to do theater or even play women roles.. it was all men.. japan is extremely patrioarctial.. a female ninja is litearlly fantasy.. let a lot a black man gaining the highest level of respect..
@@npcimknot958no, women made kabuki and then men made laws that forbade them from participating. Also the roots of ninjutsu can be traced back to China since many of the core tenants are rooted in Buddhism. So a ninja with Chinese attire isn't inaccurate either. He revolutionized warfare in japan by being the first daimyo to make use of fire arms. Arming his troops with matchlocks and having them switch out for continuos volleys of fire. i spent about one month last year working on some Wikipedia pages since I saw how certain pages were severely lacking in information and I wanted to contribute some important info to them. I quickly got out of there once I caught on how the vast majority of the veteran Wiki editors there are ULTRA woke to the EXTREME (and that's putting it mildly. I can't even go into details on how ultra, ultra, ultra extreme woke they are. That's how bad it is and I was shocked how many of them had these details in their public profiles). Anyway, these "editors" would delete and alter certain pieces of info due to extremely petty reasons, sometimes having to do with the ideology that they wanted to push. They didn't care if it was accurate info with citations added in as proof, if they didn't like it they would delete it. This is one of the MANY reasons why no one should use Wikipedia as a serious source of info for anything. Even for stuff like movies, shows, comics, games (ESPECIALLY games), use other sources.
No; we should use it, but we should be prepared to fight for its integrity. If we abandon wikipedia, the wokes win on that front, and they shall all flock there when everything collapses around them as they try to build a false narrative to deceive the naive youth into joining their vain cause and thus perpetuating their wanton chaos for generations to come. We have the power to swarm them with our superior numbers, if only we _all_ did our part to jump in the fray, to fight against their misinformation and campaign of lies. We have the power to, through majority vote, change the policies that they so abuse, forever locking them out of editorial positions. We can change the standards for sources, allowing wayback archives, and non “mainstream” sources to be allowed so long as, and _only if_ they can be verified. Thus pages like the one on Sweet Baby Inc, will be forced to accept use of alternative sources that _can be verified_ by just digging around; no more sticklers able to force use of already compromised and biased mainstream news. We shall ever endeavor to extend the oft forgotten tenet of Wikipedia; that rules are flexible, and that there is no “Core Policy” that is absolute.

I just hate how there's so very little Asian Male representation in media, and when there's a chance for there to be an asian male MC, ubisoft instead casts a black guy as the MC of the game.
Well, it's their art. Artists do get to choose what their art is. This wasn't a chance to have an asian male. It's their own creation. You're trying to force an artist to make what you want them to. It's never going to happen. And, by the way, there are a million games that let you create an asian male character.
@Ryzot I wasn't talking about character creation. I am talking about media portrayal of asian men. There are already barely any asian actors or asian MCs because of how racist Hollywood and, to some extent, gaming is racist. Also, what is the artist trying to say when he portrays a 6'1 historical black dude running around Japan, killing a bunch of 5'3 Japanese samurai. Racist Hollywood movies already stereotype asians as being less physically capable than white or black men while being nerds. Making a game where a black guy cosplays as a samurai and mops the floor with Japanese samurai is pretty disrespectful to the entire culture.

Unless there is some deeper and darker reasoning behind creating this nonsense insanity? Companies like Blackrock and Vanguard would not be pushing this so hard knowing it'll hurt value in the short term unless they see higher value in the long term.

At first I thought it was for once an actual good way of bringing this so sacred inclusivity and all, in a way that doesn't feel forced since yasuke was an actual historical figure, had a strong story, etc... But it seems it's all bullshit again. Adewale in black flag was the real deal.
Nobody would go buy a game where Ubisoft, due to its DEI policies, put a "Hiroshima and Niggasaki", just as the 1996 movie says "Don't be a Menace to South Central while you drink your juice in the Hood". The woke themselves humiliate themselves. Yasuke is not the first black samurai, because before the inclusion appeared, the Demoman character from the shooter game Team Fortress 2 was already a samurai, since there were already samurai packs for that class in the game. The Ubisoft woke stole the idea from Valve. The woke is a protester that comes to alter the social and logical order, and to impose its policies that go against entertainment in the case of video games, ruining the experience for the players and the success of the company. They don't care about commerce, or sales, or the success of the product, or whether the players like it or not, what matters to them is including to fulfill an agenda of a few roles; and after ruining it they don't play it.
I think Ubisoft knows this, if nothing else, will get everyone "talking" about the product, regardless of whether or not it's positive or negative. But it's a bizarre strategy. It assumes we wouldn't already be talking about or anticipating a new Assassin's Creed when it's obviously one of gaming's most popular franchises.

For anyone wondering, Rise of the Ronin is a Playstation 5 exclusive that came out at the end of March 2024 (it's a very new game) and I've played and completed the ENTIRE game and I will say that it is in my top three of very great games released this year. It's a very great game that values a lot of real historical events while adding in some fiction in a very good way which compliments the historical events. If you have a Playstation 5 and like samurai games, go play Rise of the Ronin and STAY AWAY from this new Assassin's Creed samurai game.
The same woke people who have resorted to "joking" about putting bounties/hits on people, and asking to string up the wives/sisters/loved ones of people they perceive as their enemy... what did you expect?

Yasuke was a real dude, but he was not a Samurai. He was a kosho, a page, of Oda Nobunaga, maybe even a retainer. Served him for 15 months, until Oda Nobunaga died. Then he 'mysteriously vanished' (he was probably killed). Yasuke didn't speak Japanese, was not a Samurai, he was more a mascot for Oda Nobunaga, who liked parading around
The line "It's important to note that there is no historical writings or evidence that Yasuke was considered a samurai, he was never given a fief or referred to as one in any writings," was only added yesterday according to edit logs at (Revision as of 15:54, 15 May 2024) after the trailer launched. So that being removed was due to it being added obviously in retaliation to his inclusion in the trailer.
Having a fief is not a requirement for being samurai as around the time Yasuke appeared an increasing number of samurai were employed on stipend. Matsudaira Ietada's diary describe him as being under Nobunaga fuchi. I don't know if western internet writers mistakenly translate the term literally as "carry" but fuchi means a rice stipend or a warrior employed by such stipend. Yasuke was paid a fuchi. At the very least Lorenzo Mesia reported that Nobunaga assigned people to show him around Kyōto. Either way would make him a warrior. Having a (long)sword is not a mark of a samurai either until the late 17th century when the Edo Bakufu outlawed the wearing of the (long)sword in public by non-samurai population of the cities. And in any case Luis Frois recorded Yasuke having fought at Nijō where he surrendered his sword. So he had one. So he was definitely a samurai. And considering he was among Nobunaga/Nobutada's pages/guards, a relatively important one at that.
Think you might've replied to the wrong comment, I agree with your assessment; I was disputing one of the claims of the video. Most of the vandalism to the Wikipedia article has been by those trying to insist that yasuke wasn't a samurai.
i wouldn't mind if they put black characters on samurai era Japan as long as they say that this game's story is fictional. i mean Tom Cruise became a samurai too in the movie but that movie never said it was historically accurate or this is a documantry etc, when you make a documentary or if you say you are making a historically accurate video game then you have to make it historically accurate otherwise you'll disrespect that country's culture and history. but changing the wikipedia for justify this, idk its evil imo. the old Ubisoft came to my country, they talked with the historians of my country and made the Assassin's Creed Revelations, it was on my ancestor's era and they made me proud to play that game, i still have the first 4 AC games physical copy, i liked them alot. they were respecting other cultures alot back in the day. its sad to see they changed alot 😥
why don't they just go with a character designer and let everybody have the perfectly fitting, and either historically accurate or diverse protagonist they actually like and want to play? but no its not about options and real diversity, its about them pushing their agenda right into everybody's faces. well, could be so easy, but have fun burning your money Ubisoft, don't cry later when the earnings underperform again, and again, and again...
@@symphonixblades I mean, what do you think a ninja was. A retainer nobody expected is a great cover. an expendable man willing to fight and die for his lord is all a ninja was. It would have been a perfect cover and fit the assassin's creed shtick without a hitch.
It is amazing to see the number of “experts “ on the subject of the “black samurai”…most of those commenting never heard about him before the game announcement. A retainer of the great Oda Nobunaga is good enough for me. A retainer is considered someone in the samurai class.

@@DiamondhandsForeverNew Prince of Persian game.

Yasuke, as a slave, could have never been allowed to wear a full set of samurai armor. Also, a female ninja, but the outfit looks like came from China. this is totally a western view of Japan/east in terms of appropriation.

@@npcimknot958no, women made kabuki and then men made laws that forbade them from participating.

It is important to note that despite popular myth and modern depictions there are no historical writings nor evidence that Yasuke was ever granted the rank or title of samurai, he was never given a fief nor referred to as one in any writings. Most of our knowledge of his life comes from these messages written by missionaries and locals
So because we can't neither confirm or deny his ranking...why is making a fictional depiction, a purely "a what if" story so bothersome to y'all. Assassin Creed has always been historical fiction.
@@lunazen8661Because this is ASSASSINS Creed maybe? Where i wanna play as an assassin and not some Samurai. Fictional depiction? your not the brightest candle are you. In every AC game we never got a Protag based on a real Person, so why apparently now? AC2 playing in Italy, Ezio an Italien, AC Syndicate set in London, with Jacob a British character. So don’t even dare to convince me, The female Shinobi as the Protagonist wasn’t enough to just let here be the protagonist, no they had to slap in Yosuke as what appears to be the main protag when it’s not and just blackwashing. 🤦♂️
@The_Omnipotent_Lurk You still get to play as the assassin, with a JAPANESE shinobi as the main protagonists. She's quite literally there front row in the fucking cover!!! What's your problem with the Japanese female shinobi? She's clearly Japanese representation. You just want to ignore her inclusion to justify your baseless complaints. Also assassin's Creed has let players be more than just assassins before-like in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, where you played as a fucking Spartan. Where was your outrage then? And yes they've always been historical fiction, the studio literally says this all the time themselves. They featured Leonardo da Vinci making literal weapons and had players kill the Pope over a magical alien artifact, were you mad at exaggerated fictionalization for that huh?! Including Yasuke, a real historical figure in Japan, isn't 'blackwashing', when he was quite literally real and apart of the countries history lol. You're mad about a real existing historical figure in japan history ( who was one of Oda Nobunaga's closest retainers and possibly a samurai) being a main character in Japan, yet Black Flag a game located in freaking HAITI had a non existing Welshman being the protagonist there, and the hive mind of people like you didn't throw a fit there. Your argument purely reeks of selective outrage and hypocrisy. Your issue isn't about historical accuracy-it's about your discomfort with black people. It's like a competition between companies to see who can fuck up their game more, and wokeness is an ingredient they just NEED to add.
I totally believe that Blackrock and Vanguard would push for DEI, but do they not care about the value of their investments? It's painfully obvious that pushing DEI into games like this (and going through trying to change literal history) is going to seriously hurt that value. It doesn't make sense from an investment point of view from their end. Do they just not know that they would be shooting themselves in the foot from this investment? It just doesn't make sense.

This is the only Assassin’s Creed game in the franchise I have no desire to actually play. Lol

Ubisoft literally rewriting history
I think Ubisoft knows this, if nothing else, will get everyone "talking" about the product, regardless of whether or not it's positive or negative. But it's a bizarre strategy. It assumes we wouldn't already be talking about or anticipating a new Assassin's Creed when it's obviously one of gaming's most popular franchises.
The AC games where over for me after the Ezio trilogy. I tried AC3, finished it and I was pretty much done with the games after that. These days its so far removed from what it started as that I can't see these newer ones as AC except in name only.
I think Learingthelaw was spot on about how games are being used as cultural weapons. I find it crazy how these people will argue how these things are ok for UBI to change history in Japan for DEI but when "white people" make a game set in Japan and Japanese people loved it, that's heresy.
you should try AC : Black Flag then. One of the best AC games ever made, the story, the fights, the parkour, the sea exploration and battle. Such a good game

Boycott Ubisoft.
This will flop, ubisoft has tanked their reputation. They have to comfortable not getting any of our money
